The Macabre stumbled into the hallway while Daryl and some of the men and women removed the rifles from the small slots in the wall and they aimed the rifles at the Macabre. Daryl took air and fired the rifle. He was surprised when the Macabre he was aiming at dodged to one side and he removed knife he had in the holder on his belt. Sighing, Daryl shook his head when he moved to his right, swung the knife and he slammed the blade of the knife into the side of the head of the Macabre in front of him. The body fell to the floor as he removed the knife then he watched Caroline shoot the Macabre heading for her.

After the final Macabre fell, Daryl and Caroline went to help with the bodies and Henri upgraded their room.

Caroline sat on the bed while she looked at the map and Daryl stood by the window, watching the fires burning in the streets below.

"Henri told me they get swarms like that at least twice a week," Caroline said.

"Where do they come from?" Daryl asked.

"He doesn't know. He did tell me people are leavin' town."

"Don't blame 'em."

"Still don't know how they got in."

"I checked the rooms. There was a fire escape outside the window of the room they came outta."

"But the metal plates would have stopped them from openin' the windows."

"Looks like the metal plates failed to cover the windows on this floor. They broke the glass, opened the window and climbed in the room."

Nodding, Caroline went back to looking at the map and Daryl walked to the other bed, sitting on the edge of the bed. He removed his work boots as he sat against the headboard and he looked at the ceiling.

"Eight years," he grumbled and Caroline looked at him.

"What?" she asked, folding up the map and she placed the map in the backpack.

"You said that's how long Murphy and Connor were gone."

She got up when she walked to the other bed and she sat next to Darryl. He slid his right arm around her shoulders as she leaned against him and she sighed.

"Wanna know why it took so long?" she asked and he nodded.

Boston

"Wasn't my idea," Murphy said with a smile. He then told her what had happened and she leaned the palms of her hands on the green felt. He finished talking as she looked at him with a hard look in her eyes and she slid her fingers over the cueball. "Go on. Toss it at me. I deserve it."

She lightly bounced the cueball on the green felt when she cupped the cueball in her right hand, walked to him and he still saw anger in her eyes after she stopped in front of him. He waited for her to say something when she slammed the cueball onto the green felt, slid her arms around him then she buried her face against his right shoulder. He felt her shaking as he rocked her and she lightly pounded her fists into his back.

"If I'm gonna toss that at anyone, it's yer dad," she said into his right shoulder and he softly laughed as he carded her hair.

"That's my girl," he said as she looked at him and his face fell. "You still are my girl, right?"

"Only if you want me to be."

He noticed the tone of her voice when he realized she was back to being the scared, paranoid woman he met all those years ago.

"Always," he said then he kissed her lips. She moved her fingers through his hair while deepening the kiss and he held the back of her head in his right hand.

"Is this….? Is this the part of our romance movie when you come back to me?" she asked in a soft voice after they moved back.

"More like we see each other again," he said and she heard the honesty in his voice.

"And, just so we're clear, you missed me?" she asked with a small smile while poking him in the chest and he snorted a laugh.

"You have no idea how much I missed you. Did you miss me?"

"Every… Damn… Day."

He placed his forehead against hers as she sighed and he moved his hands along her shoulders.

"Why didn't you call me?" she asked in a small voice after a few seconds.

"I wanted to, but it turns out th'homestead didn't have a phone."

"What if you needed help or the place caught fire?"

"We prayed a lot," he teased and she lightly laughed.

"Did…? Did you ever write me?"

"I wrote you a letter every day."

"Why didn't you send them?"

"I…," he said then a puzzled look moved across his face. She saw the confusion in his eyes and he looked over at the door. "Connor!"

"What's wrong!?" Connor asked as he opened the door and he quickly came in the room, closing the door behind him.

"Did I or did I not write letters t'Caroline?"

"You did," he said with a small grin. "Hell, I even read a few of them."

"You what?!" Caroline asked with wide eyes.

"Never mind that," Murphy said while looking at her then he looked at Connor. "Do you know if Uncle Sibeal mailed th'letters?"

"Who is Uncle Sibeal?" Caroline asked.

"He's Da's brudder."

"I remember him tellin' me that he'd mail the'letters when he got t'town," Connor said.

"I don't think he mailed th'letters."

"How do you know that?"

"Because I never got the letters," Caroline said and Connor gave her a stunned look.

"Christ."

"Lord's name," Murphy warned and Connor nodded.

"You think Da told him not t'mail th'letters?" Connor asked.

"He might."

"Why would he do that?"

"To protect me?" Caroline suggested as she looked at Murphy. "You have to remember that he wasn't too happy when he found we were together."

"He said you were a liability." Murphy said.

"But he seemed fine once he found out how much you two cared about each other," Connor said and Murphy nodded his head after he looked at Connor.

"What about later on? You said he didn't want me to go with you," Caroline said as she looked at Murphy.

"You're right," Murphy said, nodding his head.

"So, maybe, he might have had yer uncle burn the letters to prevent anyone from interceptin' anythin' you sent me or anythin' I sent you. That way, they couldn't find me or you."

Murphy and Connor locked eyes as they had a silent conversation then they nodded.

"Do you remember what you wrote in the letters?" Caroline asked in a soft voice.

"Mostly how much I love you and wished that you were there," Murphy said in a soft voice and Romeo opened the door.

"Is it ok to come back in now?" Romeo asked and Murphy moved back.

"Sure," Connor said. They watched Doc and Romeo enter the room while Doc carried a tray with a bottle of whiskey and some glasses on top and Romeo closed the door. Doc placed the tray on the pool table then he poured the whiskey into the glasses. He handed out the glasses as he smiled and they looked at the glasses. They clinked the glasses together as they shot back the whiskey and Connor and Murphy snorted a laugh after Caroline started coughing. Murphy lightly patted her back as she smiled and she placed the glass on the pool table.

"Stop laughin'. It went down the wrong way," Caroline said with an annoyed look on her face.

"Sorry," Daryl said with a smile and she lightly swatted his back. "What happened next?"

"They told me why they were there," Caroline said. She explained as he nodded his head a few times. He noticed the sad look in her eyes and he placed his right arm around her shoulders.

"When was the next time you saw them?"

Boston

"Night, Frank," Caroline said as she headed for the motorcycle shop's front door.

"Hold on," Frank said and she turned to look at him. Frank walked to her and she saw the angry look in his eyes. "They're back, aren't they?"

"You mean Connor and Murphy?"

"Yes."

Caroline stayed silent and he slammed his hands against his thighs as he growled, looking at the ceiling.

"Dammit, Caroline, please tell me you're not involved with them again," he said.

"What if I am?" she asked.

"Then I'm gonna have to call your father."

"Why!?"

"They're dangerous."

"No, they're not!"

"Caroline…"

"Drop it!" she said and she headed for the front door. She opened the front door as she left the motorcycle shop and headed down the sidewalk. She slid her hands into the pockets of the black Navy pea coat and she felt the anger growing inside her. She stopped near the tattoo parlor when she heard a sharp whistle and she turned to her left. Her eyes widened when she saw Murphy standing just inside the alley and she looked both ways before she ran across the street. He smiled when she jumped into his arms and she wrapped her legs around his waist then she placed her arms over his shoulders.

"Now this is what I call a hello," Murphy teased, holding onto her.

"Is it over?" she asked.

"No."

She could tell he didn't like the look on her face as he adjusted his hold on her and she lowered her head. He lifted her chin to kiss her lips then he looked deeply into her eyes.

"We still have one more thing t'do," he explained when she saw Connor and Romeo walking closer and Connor gave her a sad smile.

"Did you tell her?" Connor asked.

"I was gettin' there," Murphy said.

"Will someone please tell me what's goin' on?" Caroline asked while looking from Murphy to Connor to Romeo.

"We need t'go help Da with summat."

"He's here!?" she asked with a puzzled look on her face.

"Yeah. Now, before you ask, we can't tell you what we have t'do. Just know… Once it's done… We have t'go back to Ireland."

"Oh," she said and she tried to get down, but Murphy wouldn't let go of her. "Let me go!"

"I will after you listen t'me."

"No!"

"Please?" he asked with a hurt look in his eyes and she sighed.

"Go on."

"When I say we? I mean all of us."

"You, him, Connor and Romeo."

"And you," Murphy said and her eyes widened.

"You're…? You're gonna take me with you!?"

"Yeah."

"But Jessie…."

"Seein' how it's been eight years, and you're still alive, it sounds t'me like she's given up lookin' fer you," Connor said.

Caroline looked from him to Murphy when she half-closed her eyelids and she smiled.

"When is everytin' goin' down?" she asked.

"Today," Murphy said.

"Then why are you here?"

"We told Da we had t'go see you first," Connor said and she nodded. "Now, we need you t'go t'yer apartment and pack."

"Um… I just thought of somethin'. I don't have a passport."

"Doesn't matter. We're leaving by boat," Romeo said as he wiped the happy tears from his eyes.

"Oh-kay."

"Now, you need t'keep th'door locked. Once we're done, we'll go t'yer apartment and use this knock," Murphy said and Connor knocked on the dumpster. Caroline nodded as Murphy kissed her then he lowered her down to her feet. "Go."

"See you soon," she said, watching them run down the alley.

"What happened next?" Daryl asked.

"They got arrested after doin' what they had to do with their dad," Caroline said. She told him what happened while Daryl felt anger building in his chest.

"Sounds like they were set up."

"I feel like they were, too."

"How did you find out?"

"Someone told me."

"Who?"

"Their uncle."

Boston

The church door softly hissed open as Caroline walked in the chapel and she walked to the pew. Murphy and Connor had taken her to the church a few times and she sat down on the pew where they usual sat, looking at the cross on the alter. She closed her eyes when she started praying and she folded her fingers together.

Suddenly, she felt like she was being watched when she opened her eyes and she saw a priest standing next to the pew.

"I'm sorry, Lass. I didn't mean t'startle you," he said.

She noticed he had an Irish accent and she also noticed he was scanning her with his eyes.

She was wearing a white t-shirt, jeans, her black leather ankle boots, her fingerless gloves, but she was also wearing a black Navy pea coat.

She felt like Murphy and Conner were with her when she wore the black Navy pea coat and what was in the inside pocket made her feel a little more confident.

"It's alright, Father," Caroline said after a few seconds.

"Would you mind if I sit with you?"

"No. I don't mind."

She watched the priest sit down on the pew when something about him made her move away from him and he placed his hands on his lap.

"There is no need t'be afraid," he said.

"Sorry. Old habit," she said.

They sat in silence when he sighed, slowly turned in the pew to face her and she titled her head to one side.

"I know who you are, Caroline," he said.

She quickly stood up when she backed up and she removed the gun Thomas had given her out of the inner pocket of the black Navy pea coat.

"I know it is a sin to bring weapons into God's house, but someone told me always be prepared," she said, holding the handle of the gun in her right hand and she pointed the gun at him.

"Please, put that away," he said.

"No way."

"Lemme put it this way. If I was here t'harm or kill you, you wouldn't have seen it comin'."

She held the handle of the gun tighter in her hand as he sighed and slowly shook his head.

"I guess I should introduce myself. I am Sibeal MacManus. Connor and Murphy MacManus are my nephews," he said.

"Yeah. Sure."

Sibeal frowned as he folded his hands in front of him and she locked eyes with him.

"Will you allow me t'show you summat?" he asked.

"What sort of somethin'?" she asked.

"It's how I knew what you looked like."

She stayed silent for a few seconds then nodded her head. He reached into the inner pocket of his suit jacket when he removed a photograph of her, Murphy and Connor and she frowned.

"Where did you get this?" she asked.

"Murphy had it in his coat pocket. He gave it t'me before he left Ireland."

"Why would he do that?"

"Murphy told me I would need it so I could find you."

"He wouldn't tell you where I was."

"He did. He also said he wanted me t'look after you if summat happened t'him."

Caroline glared at him as he sighed and he shook his head.

"What do I have t'do t'convince you I mean you no harm?" he asked.

"Let me leave."

"I will gladly let you leave, but only if you hear me out," he said. He waited for her to say something and Caroline nodded her head. "As I said, Connor and Murphy are my nephews."

Caroline arched an eyebrow and he saw the doubt on her face and in her eyes.

"I understand yer doubts. Anythin' I tell you will sound like some sort of fiction. Summat I made up. But I assure you I am tellin' you th'truth."

Caroline didn't answer. She had a silent conversation with herself when she lowered the gun and Sibeal smiled.

"You shouldn't have done that," Daryl grumbled.

"Yeah," Caroline said.

"How did he know you'd be at the church?'

"He either followed me or someone told him."

"Who knew you went to that church besides Connor and Murphy?"

"Frank."

"But why would Frank tell him?"

"Dunno."

"He could've threatened Frank."

"Maybe."

"What happened next?"

Boston

"Do you believe me?" Sibeal asked.

"No," Caroline said, shaking her head, but she didn't put the gun away. "But I am willin' to give you a chance."

"Thank you, My Dear."

"Just know one thing. Murphy and Connor care a lot about me. You do anythin'…. If I suddenly disappear…. You'll be on the top of their list of suspects."

"You're right," he said with a sigh. "Now…. I know I said you could leave, but I really do need you t'come with me."

"I ain't goin' anywhere with you," she said, pointing the gun at him again.

"I see."

"But I do need to know somethin'."

"What do you need t'know?"

"What happened to the letters?"

"Th'letters?"

"The letters Murphy wrote me."

"You know about those?"

"Yeah."

"Oh," he said then he became quiet. She waited for him to speak as he sighed then he lightly shook his head. "You have t'understand. They were in exile..."

"I know that," she said with a growl and she rubbed her right index finger over the trigger

"Well, what you don't understand is their father… He… He never wanted his sons t'get involved with this life. He knew what sacrifices had t'be made t'fulfill what God wanted him t'do."

"Like him losin' his wife and sons?"

"Yes," he said with a nod. "Their dad told me many times how he regretted keepin' what he did from them. What he didn't know was Annabelle, their ma, knew what was up. She's very smart. Jus' like you."

Caroline felt the blush move across her cheeks and she nodded for him to continue.

"When they… When they finished what they had to do, he took them somewhere where they could forget," he said and she frowned.

"Forget what?" she asked.

"Everythin"."

"Includin' me?"

"Includin' you," he said with a nod. "But it wasn't workin'. He told me what he had done couldn't erase what had developed between you and Murphy. It reminded him of what he lost with Annabelle. He also knew you'd be in danger jus' like she had been. So, he told Murphy you couldn't go with them and I was t'burn any letters Murphy gave me. Sad t'say, I did."

"Then I was right. Their dad was protectin' me."

"He was," he said and she saw the sadness in his eyes. "Please forgive me."

"I did forgive him and their dad," Caroline said and Daryl placed his head against her head.

Boston

"Have you heard about what happened t'them?" Sibeal asked.

"Just what was on the news. And that ain't much," Caroline said.

Nodding, Sibeal explained and she felt the anger building inside her.

"Are they alright?" she asked.

"Yes, they're fine. Mostly."

"What does that mean?"

"They were shot," he said and her eyes widened. "Oh! They weren't seriously hurt. Their dad and their friend on th'other hand…"

Caroline didn't need to ask as she saw the tears in his eyes and she moved a little closer after she placed the gun in the inner pocket of the black Navy pea coat. He did look surprised when she helped him to his feet then hugged him and he gently slid his arms around her.

"Where are they?" she asked after he moved back.

"They are in prison."

"And you're sure they're alive?"

"I was able t'see them yesterday. Th'first thing Murphy whispered t'me was he wanted t'see you."

Caroline softy smiled while he watched her fold her arms over her stomach.

"Do you wanna go see them?" he asked.

"Yeah, but how?"

"I know you don't, but I need you to trust me," he said with a grin and she smiled back.

Daryl looked at her as Caroline yawned and he lightly patted her right shoulder.

"Sorry," Caroline said.

"That's ok," Daryl said. He watched her get up as she headed for the other bed and she stretched out on the bed. He watched her close her eyes as she made a soft hum and she drifted off to sleep. Daryl looked up at the ceiling when he slid down onto his back, closed his eyes and he followed her into sleep.

The next morning, Daryl was able to get a new horse and cart while Caroline bought some supplies, boxes of ammunition and some bottles of water. He sat in the driver's seat while the horse made soft whickering sounds and he held the reins in his hands. Caroline looked at the map as she tried to figure out where they were and her right index finger moved over the map.

"Are we gettin' close to Paris?" Daryl asked.

"If we keep goin' this way, yeah," she said with a nod.

"How's our money holdin' out?"

"We've got enough fer another day or so. After that, we might have to trade stuff."

"Hmph," he said with a nod. The cart headed down the road when Daryl saw some Macabre on the side of the road. Caroline placed the map in the backpack when she took hold of the rifle, checked to see if the rifle was loaded and she went to the back of the cart. The Macabre were moving near the trees and she noticed the Macabre seemed to be acting like they were behind an invisible wall. Daryl stopped the horse as he hopped off the driver seat and he looked at the Macabre. "What are they doin'?"

"I think they're mimes."

"What the hell are mimes?" he asked and Caroline explained. The Macabre kept pushing against what they thought was an invisible wall while Caroline handed Daryl the rifle and he took aim. He fired the rifle as the heads of the Macabre exploded and he reloaded the rifle. The sound had caused the other Macabre to slam their hands against what they thought was an invisible wall and Caroline felt sorry for them. She gathered the rifle bullet casings as they got back on the cart and Daryl steered the cart down the road.

The Commonwealth – Carol's office

Carol looked through the files on Trask and the logbooks she had received from Oceanside and she was surprised with what Milton had Trask ship for her.

"Maybe Anne is right. We should have killed Pamela," Carol grumbled while the door opened and Ezekiel entered the room.

"You're working late," he said with a small grin.

"Have to figure out the connection between Milton and Trask," she said, closing the file.

"Find anything?" he asked as he walked to the desk, moved the chair closer and sat on the chair.

"Just stuff I already know. Trask worked for Milton and Hornsby."

"What did he do for them?"

"Shipping cargo, mostly. Some of the cargo he shipped were people."

"So, he was either a slave trader or someone else hired him to kidnap Daryl and Caroline."

"But why?"

"That's the question. Why?"

"Have you found anything?"

"No."

"Great," she said with a sigh and Ezekiel saw the sadness in her eyes.

"We'll find them."

"I know," she said as she got up, walked to the filing cabinet, opened the drawer and she placed the files in the drawer. She closed the drawer when she walked to the desk and she turned off the light on the desk. "Guess I should go home."

"Who's looking after Judith and RJ?"

"Jerry," she said with a smile.

They headed for the door as they left the office and she closed the door behind her.
