Katherine left the room after helping get Murphy to bed and Caroline liked the dark blue comforter he had on the bed. Stain glass windows with bars in the front case colorful lights on the dark blue carpeting and on the walls. Landscape paintings were on the light wood paneled walls and a dark blue carpet spread over the light wood flooring. A light wood bookcase was near the door and a light wood desk and a desk chair was next to the night stand near the bed. A door led to a small bathroom and a light wood wardrobe was next to the door. She looked at the rest of the furniture and the marble planters with plants in the corners.

"Caroline?" cause her to look at Murphy sitting against the headboard and he was wearing a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt. The robe was draped over the footboard and the gloves, the black cord and sandals were on the dresser. "Will you please sit down? You're makin' me nervous."

"You're nervous?!" Caroline asked with a small laugh. She went to sit at the foot of the bed and he arched an eyebrow.

"I ain't gonna bite you," he said with a grin. Caroline got up when she walked to sit next to his left side and he looked at her. "You know, I used t'have all these scenarios in my head about what I'd say when I'd see you again, but this wasn't one of 'em."

"I did, too. The one I never wanted was to see you as a Walker."

"A what?"

"That's what Daryl and I call Macabre."

He noticed something in her eyes as he pulled his legs up and he placed his wrists on his knees.

"I would check t'make sure none of them looked like you before I killed them," he said.

They became quiet when Caroline removed her boots and placed the boots near the bed. Murphy moved so she could place her feet on the bed and she put her wrists on her knees.

"Remember when I had to dress up as a nun to sneak into the prison?" she asked.

"Yeah. You made a really cute nun," he said.

"You make a really cute monk."

"Bishop!" he said with an annoyed look and she giggled.

"When did Connor get married?"

"It was two years after the world fell."

"Do they have any kids?"

"No. Katherine can't have 'em."

Nodding, Caroline lowered her head and Murphy wondered what she was thinking about.

"You… You told me, when you and Connor went into exile, that you wanted me to move on," she said then paused. "Did you move on?"

"I did," Murphy said after a few seconds.

"What was her name?"

"Jeanie. Like Katherine and Connor, we met in Philadelphia. She used to work as a daycare worker."

"Was she good to you?"

"She was," he said with a nod.

"Did you love her?"

She braced herself for his answer.

"Not as much as I love you."

"You still love me?!" she asked with wide eyes.

"Never stopped. It's funny. Jeanie always said there was a ghost in th'room because she knew I was thinkin' about you."

"Must have driven her nuts."

"Most times," he said then paused. "Connor asked me if I regretted marryin' her."

"Did you?"

"Will you be upset if I said no?"

"No," she said with a shake of her head.

"Then I didn't regret it."

"Did you…? Did you have any kids?"

She saw a sadness in his eyes which hurt her soul and he slid his legs down. She carefully stood then sat on his lap and she placed her hands on his chest. He moved his hands up and down her thighs while he gathered his thoughts then he licked his lips.

"We had been married fer four years after th'world fell when she became pregnant. Lucky fer us, Katherine had some knowledge of childbirth and we had found a clinic th'day Jeanie went into labor. She gave birth to a healthy little boy."

"Let me guess. You named him after yer best friend, Norman, right?" she asked with a smile while patting his chest. She had seen the tattoo after he had taken his shirt off and he told her about his best friend, Norman.

"Right," he said with a smile. "Two years later, she gave birth t'Annie."

"You named the baby after yer mom?"

"Yep," he said then paused. She felt the gentle rise and fall of his breathing as he rubbed the back of her hands then his chest expanded as he sighed. "Annie was seven when it happened. We were livin' in Ireland at th'time."

"Did yer mom meet her namesake?"

"No. She… She had been bit."

Caroline felt like she had been kicked in the stomach.

"Did you…? Did you have to put her down?"

"Uncle did it."

She motioned for him to sit forward as she held him and Murphy leaned his head against her head. They stayed still for a few seconds then he moved back against the headboard.

"As I was sayin'. Annie was seven. We had gone back t'the homestead where Da took us when we went into exile. Connor and I were doin' a perimeter search around th'homestead while Katherine and Jeanie were at th'homestead with th'kids. We were almost home when we heard th'alarm. We made th'horses go as fast as they could, but…"

Murphy paused as he sighed and she wiped the tears from his eyes with the pads of her thumbs. He swallowed the lump in his throat as he lightly moaned and he rubbed his face with his hands.

"When we arrived at th'homestead, Katherine and Jeanie were firin' their rifles at th'swarm. Connor and I got off th'horses. We got our rifles and fired at th'swarm. Two of th'swarm got into th'homestead. Jeanie ran in to protect th'kids. I ran after her. That's when… They…"

Caroline pulled him forward into a hug as Murphy started crying and she held the back of his head in her left hand. She moved back as she stood up and he moved on the bed for her to sit next to him. She reached for him as he snuggled against him and she held him. He started crying again as she made soft hushing sounds and she gently rocked him back and forth.

Downstairs, Connor had placed the hood up as they walked down the grand staircase and he nodded when someone made a small bow.

"What's with the "Cardinal" stuff?" Daryl asked, but Connor didn't answer. Daryl figured he had to pretend not to speak English and they walked toward a large door. Connor opened the door and Daryl looked at the stone stairs leading into a dimly lit basement. They headed down the stairs and Daryl noticed the dampness in the air.

"You have t'walk behind me," Connor whispered.

Nodding, Daryl walked behind Connor while they walked down a long hallway and Daryl looked at the guards in black body armor, boots and riot helmets standing near the doors. They stopped at the large door with a number five painted in white paint and the guard bowed.

"Open the door," Connor said in French. Nodding, the guard unlocked the door, opened the door and Connor and Daryl walked by him. Daryl looked at the rows of shelves when he saw their crossbows, the backpacks, the box from under the front seat, the wine bottle and the rifle.

Daryl pointed to the shelf and Connor nodded then helped him get the crossbows, the backpacks, the bottle of wine, the box and the rifle off the shelf. Connor carried the backpacks and the crossbows while Daryl carried the box after putting the bottle of wine in the box with the strap of the rifle over his right shoulder and they left the room. They headed for the stairs as they went upstairs and they walked to the grand staircase. They walked upstairs then down the hallway when they came to the top floor. Connor put one of the backpacks and one of the crossbows on the floor when he opened the door, picked up the backpack and the crossbow and they went inside the room. Katherine saw them as she placed her right index finger against her lips and she pointed to the door to Murphy's bedroom door.

Connor placed the backpacks and the crossbows on the couch while Daryl placed the box and the rifle on the floor and closed the door. They walked to the door to Murphy's bedroom when they looked in the room and Caroline was sitting against the headboard. Murphy curled up next to her with his head on her lap. She was carding his hair when she looked at them and Connor slowly closed the door.

The Commonwealth

Carol walked down the hallway with two Commonwealth soldiers walking behind her and she hoped Hornsby had the answers she was looking for. She stopped at the cell bars when Hornsby smiled, stood and walked to the cell bars.

"Hello, Carol," Lance said.

"Hello," Carol said.

"What can I do for you?"

"I need to know something."

"What sort of something?"

"You said Pamela Milton was sending people off to help her friends?"

"Right. What I didn't tell you was I was the one who made the travel arrangements."

"Then you did have dealings with Trask."

Hornsby sighed as he rolled his eyes and Carol felt a knot of anger building in her chest.

"Why did she send people to Europe?" Carol asked.

"That's where some of her "friends" are," Lance said.

"Why do you think she would send Daryl and Caroline to France?"

"She did?!"

"Lance!" she said with a small growl.

"No, I'm not kidding. I have no idea why she would do that."

She saw the honesty in his eyes as she nodded and Hornsby started pacing. He looked like he was having a silent conversation with himself when he frowned then walked to the cell bars.

"I do remember her mentioning her curiosity about your friends," he said and Carol frowned.

"Her curiosity?"

"She said something about them being twins and seeing how they managed during certain situations."

"Daryl did tell me about the time he and Caroline were separated in the Killing House. Mercer had no intention on separating them. He just wanted to see how well they worked as a team."

"Which means she might have wanted to send them overseas to see how they'd handle being in a different country. Not sure if they're together, though. She might have separated them."

"But why wait until now to send them there? How did she know Trask was here? Did someone come and tell her. And how did Trask know what they looked like or how to get hold of them?

"Those are really good questions," he said, pointing his right index finger at her. Carol thought for a few seconds then she flexed her fingers.

"The more I do this job, the more frustrated I get," Carol said.

"Welcome to my world," Lance said with a small grin.

"She's not going to tell me why they were taken to France, is she?"

"Only if you torture her."

Carol heard the seriousness in his voice and he leaned his back against the cell bars.

"Do you have any idea where I can look for answers?" Carol asked.

"Have you talked with Max?" he asked.

"Yes. She's been very helpful."

"What about Pamela's office? Are you sure you looked at everything and everywhere?" he asked as he turned to look at her. Carol thought for a few seconds when she walked away and Hornsby wrapped his fingers around the cell bars.

"What are you up to, Pamela?" he whispered then he went to sit on the cot.

Paris – Notre-Dame Cathedral

The bedroom door opened as Daryl walked in the room and he walked to the bed. Caroline had slid down onto the bed and her head was resting against Murphy's head. Daryl saw how peaceful they looked as he stood at the foot of the bed and he made a little sigh.

"Stop," made him look at the bed. Caroline had rolled onto her back as she held herself up on her elbows and he frowned.

"Stop what?" he asked.

"Stop actin' like you're gonna lose me."

"Wasn't thinkin' that."

"Pull the other leg."

Daryl watched her sit up as she pulled her legs up and she placed her wrists on her knees. He went to sit on the edge of the bed near her feet and he looked at Murphy.

"How's he doin'?" he asked.

"He's fine," she said and reached over to card the top of Murphy's head. Murphy sighed, but didn't wake up and Caroline waited for Daryl to say something.

"Found our stuff," Daryl said.

"That's good. What did Connor do with those guys who they said took 'em?"

"He let 'em go."

"He usually does," made Caroline look at Murphy and his eyes were half-open.

"Hey," Caroline said with a grin. She helped him sit up as he wiped the sleep out of his eyes then he looked at Daryl.

"Where did you put yer stuff?" Murphy asked.

"I put 'em in th'guest room," Connor said as he walked in the room and stood at the foot of the bed. "How're you feelin'?"

"I'm fine," he said then looked at Caroline. "Um, my bunny slippers are over there."

"You still have 'em?!" she asked with wide eyes.

"They're not th'originals."

She got off the bed when she headed for the dresser and she picked up the bunny slippers. She remembered the pair someone had sent him while he was in prison, but these had fake blood around the mouth, sharp felt fangs and angry eyes. She softly laughed as she walked to the bed and Murphy was sitting on the edge of the bed. She helped him put the bunny slippers on his feet then he stood up and he wiggled his toes.

"You sure it's alright fer us to stay up here?" Caroline asked while looking at Connor.

"Yeah. They know better t'say otherwise," Connor said and she saw the truth in his eyes.

"Is this really Notre-Dame?"

"Yeah," Murphy said, taking hold of her right hand and wrapping their fingers together.

"I'm surprised you two picked a cathedral as a base."

"We didn't. Th'first leader did. He thought those things out there wouldn't attack it. He was wrong," Connor said.

"Katherine said you've been the leader for the last two years. What happened to the last leader?" Daryl asked.

"He got eaten."

"How did you end up as leader?" Caroline asked.

"When they tried t'decide which one of us were gonna be leader, th'votin' ended up in a tie. So, we both run this place," Murphy said.

Daryl heard the truth in their words as he nodded and they left the room. They headed for the kitchen where Katherine was stirring the stew and Daryl walked to the stove, looking into the pot at the meat soaking in the bubbling gravy.

"It's beef," Katherine said.

"We have some cows and sheep as well as some chickens," Connor explained, walking to the stove and he used a clean spoon to scoop some of the gravy out of the pot. He blew on the gravy before he took a taste and he smiled.

"We also have vegetable, medical plants and herb gardens," Murphy said to Caroline.

"Why don't you go set the table while I finish this?" Katherine asked and Connor kissed her left cheek. He showed Daryl where the glasses, silverware, napkins and plates were and they headed for the dining table. Murphy and Caroline placed the salad in the bowls as they went to place the bowls on the dining table and Connor poured some wine into the glasses. Katherine saw how happy Connor and Murphy were as she poured the stew into the bowls on a wooden tray, but she felt uneasy around Daryl and Caroline. Connor had told her about Caroline, but seeing how casual Caroline was about leaving caused anger to boiling inside her.

"Dinner ready?" Connor asked and she looked at him.

"Yeah," Katherine said and she picked up the wooden tray. He took the wooden tray out of her hands as Katherine turned off the burners and they headed for the dining table. Connor placed the wooden tray on the dining table while Katherine placed the bowls in front of Caroline, Daryl and Murphy then she placed the bowls in front of where she and Connor were sitting.

"Sit," Connor said, pointing to the chairs. He held the chair out for Katherine to sit down then he moved the chair to the table after she sat on the chair. Murphy held the chair out for Caroline to sit down then he moved he chair to the table after she sat down. Daryl sat on the chair to Caroline's left and Murphy sat at one head of table while Connor sat at the other head of the table. Connor held out his hands as they took hold of each other's hands and Connor closed his eyes. After they closed their eyes, Connor said grace and Caroline felt Murphy lighting squeezing her fingers. Connor finished saying grace as they opened their eyes and started eating.

"So, Daryl, how did you feel when Caroline showed up on yer doorstep?" Connor asked before taking a sip of wine.

"Didn't believe her at first," Daryl said.

"Even after she showed you th'proof?" Murphy asked and Daryl shook his head.

"We had to have a blood test done," Caroline said.

"That makes sense," Katherine said then she placed a spoonful of stew in her mouth.

"We were surprised when we found out we're twins."

"I thought you two looked a little bit alike," Connor said.

"We never found out which one of us is th'oldest. Did you?" Murphy asked.

"He's the oldest," Caroline said, pointing the spoon at Daryl.

"Do you have any more brothers or sisters?" Connor asked.

"We had an older brother. Merle," Daryl said.

"Had?"

"He was killed a few years ago," Caroline said.

"How?"

"He was shot then he turned into a Walker," Daryl said and Connor saw the sad look in his eyes.

"Walker?"

"That's why we call Macabre," Caroline said.

"What about yer birth parents?" Murphy asked.

"Our birth mother died in a fire."

"Our birth dad was killed by a Walker," Daryl said.

"So, it's jus' th'two of you," Connor said and Caroline nodded.

"Murphy told me about what happened to yer mom. What about yer uncle and Romeo? What happened to them?" Caroline asked.

"Uncle died from a stroke. It was a few years after Murphy and…."

Connor glanced at Murphy and Murphy nodded his head.

"He died after Murphy and Jeanie had Norman."

"You're married!?" Daryl asked as he glared at Murphy.

"His wife and kids are dead," Caroline said and she gave him a look which said she'd tell him about them later.

"Romeo died last year," Murphy said.

"How did he die?" Caroline asked.

"It was during a raid. He got shot, we brought him back here, but Katherine couldn't save him," Connor said while he looked at Katherine and Katherine sighed, placing the spoon on the table. He reached over to take hold of her right hand and he lightly rubbed the back of her hand. They went back to eating their meal while Caroline noticed how Katherine looked at her or Daryl from time-to-time and Caroline placed the spoon in the bowl before she placed her elbows on the table.

"Katherine, do you have somethin' you wanna say to me?" Caroline asked.

"What? No, I don't," Katherine said with a shake of her head, but Caroline knew she was lying.

"Then why are you lookin' at me and Daryl like we're bad people?"

"Are you?"

"Katherine!" Connor warned as he slammed the spoon on the table.

"No, I think I know what's botherin' her," Caroline said as she sat a little straighter in the chair. "Did Connor or Murphy tell you about me?"

"Yes, they told me about you," Katherine said with a smug look on her face.

"What did they tell you?"

Daryl could feel his sister becoming defensive as he lightly nudged her right foot with his left foot.

"They told me you met them after you moved to Boston, you and Murphy became close then you left after the world fell," Katherine said.

"Did they tell you why I left?" Caroline asked.

"Does it matter? You broke Murphy's heart."

"Yeah, I know," she said as she looked at Murphy then she glared at Katherine. "The reason I left him had to do with this."

Caroline held up her right hand and Katherine looked at the scars.

"All my life, the woman I thought was my mother treated me like shit. She mentally, emotionally and verbally abused me. I believed I was nothin'. That my life didn't matter. Then, after I drew somethin' on the back of my hand as an idea for a tattoo, she grabbed hold of my wrist and nearly smashed my hand into a pulp with a meat hammer. If the man who I thought was my father hadn't have stopped her, she would have succeeded. I spent a long time in the hospital. Had more surgeries than I could count to save my hand. And spent two years in therapy until I got use of my hand again. While I was in the hospital, she threatened to keep on abusin' me or she would just outright kill me. The man I thought was my father had no choice, but to send me into hidin'. That's when those two came into my life," Caroline explained and she pointed to Connor and Murphy.

"Why not simple have her arrested?" Katherine asked.

"Because her father was a very powerful man."

Katherine saw the truth in her eyes.

"When Connor and Murphy came into my life, they showed me life was worth livin' and they made sure nothin' happened to me. I learned I was worth bein' loved," Caroline said as she looked at Murphy and he smiled at her. "They helped me adjust after I found out that I was adopted and Murphy wanted to go with me when I got in contact with my birth father. But I couldn't risk it. If the person who got in contact with me was who he said he was, I would've brought him and my birth family to the prison to meet him and Connor. If he was someone my adopted mother or adopted grandfather hired to get rid of me, I couldn't risk either of 'em gettin' hurt or go after those two assholes if I had been killed."

Caroline's voice cracked as she got up and she ran into Murphy's room. Murphy glared at Katherine as he got up then ran into the bedroom and he slammed the door closed. Katherine looked from Connor to Daryl when she got up, walked to the door to Murphy's bedroom and she barely opened the door. She could just see Murphy holding Caroline and she could hear Caroline sobbing. Katherine closed the door as she turned and Daryl and Connor watched Katherine leave the room.

Later that night, Caroline sat on the couch while she looked at the scars on the back of her right hand and she flexed her fingers. Murphy, Connor and Daryl were sleeping, but the anger she felt made it hard for her to sleep. She heard the sound of a door opening and she expected Daryl to come and sit next to her. Instead, Katherine walked to the wet bar as she poured some whiskey in two glasses, picked up the glasses and she sat next to her on the couch.

"Forgive me for being an overprotective, rude bitch?" Katherine asked, holding out the glass.

"Only if you can fergive me fer bein' an overprotective, defensive bitch," Caroline said as she took the glass.

"Are you talking about being overprotective of your brother or those two?"

"Daryl can take care of himself."

"He really did miss you. Murphy, I mean."

"I missed him, too," Caroline said and Katherine heard the truth in her voice.

"He told you about Jeanie?"

"Yeah. And I told him about Benji," she said then she told Katherine who Benji was.

"No offense, but he sounded like a real asshole."

"Yeah, he was."

"Men," Katherine sighed and Caroline softly laughed.

"Friends?"

"Friends," Katherine said and they clinked glasses. Neither of them noticed the bedroom doors closing and Connor, Murphy and Daryl headed back to their beds.
