Connor, Murphy, Daryl and Caroline waited outside the master bedchamber while Katherine examined Anton and Maurice stood next to the bed.

"How'd you know that thing in th'cell wasn't Anton?" Connor asked, looking at Daryl.

"It was his eyes," Daryl said.

"His eyes?" Murphy asked.

"Yeah. I've only seen a look like that one other time."

"What sort of look?"

"It was like they were pleadin' fer help."

Caroline felt the guilt and sadness coming from him when she realized who he was talking about and she slid her left hand into his right hand. He wrapped their fingers together and Daryl sighed.

"I found our brother after he was killed and turned into a Walker. When he saw me, he didn't act like a normal Walker. He didn't attack me. He just stood there. There was this look in his eyes I never saw before. He was pleadin' fer me to put him down. When I didn't move, he came at me. Not like he wanted to bite or scratch me. More like when we were kids and he wanted to get me to do somethin' I didn't wanna do. He started pushin' me. Tauntin' me. He wanted to make me angry."

Caroline squeezed his fingers as Daryl sighed and Connor nodded his head for him to continue.

"While I was lookin' at Andre in that cell, his eyes and his face kept shiftin'. Like he was Andre then he wasn't," Daryl said.

"I noticed that, too," Connor said.

"Anton said their bond had changed. Do you think he found a way t'take over Anton's mind?" Murphy asked.

"Dunno. All I know is I saw Anton lookin' back at me. Just as I went to stab him, the eyes and face changed," Daryl said.

"He became Andre again," Caroline said and Daryl nodded.

Maurice walked to the doorway as they looked at him and the old man had a grime look on his face.

"Is he gonna be alright?" Caroline asked in French.

"Doctor MacManus says he's breathing, but she doesn't know if his mind is intact," Maurice said in French then he headed for the doorway.

"Where are you goin'?"

"I am going to go get the information he told you about. He would want you to have it," Maurice said in French.

They watched the old man leave the room when Katherine walked to the doorway and Connor moved to wrap his arms around her.

"This is one time I wish hospitals were still operational," Katherine said into Connor's left shoulder.

"It's not yer fault," Connor said.

"He wanted us to do it," Daryl said as he looked into the room.

Katherine walked back in the room after letting go of Connor and she went to sit on the chair she had placed by the bed.

Suddenly the air turned cold as the sounds of violins, harps and choir voices filled the air and Connor, Murphy, Daryl and Caroline looked at each other.

"Greetings," the Blue Lady said in English after she appeared.

"Greetings, Lady," Connor said as he and Murphy made a little bow.

"Why are you here?" Daryl asked and Caroline walked to him.

"I am here because I was informed by the Old Bear that your friend has found the people who brought you here," the Blue Lady said.

"How did she do that?" Caroline asked. They listened while the Blue Lady told them what happened and Daryl lightly squeezed Caroline's fingers.

"Thank you for tellin' us," Daryl said.

"You are welcome," the Blue Lady said then she looked in the room.

"Is there anything you can do?" Caroline asked.

"It is his battle to fight not mine."

"You mean his brudder's mind is still inside him?" Murphy asked.

"I am afraid so.'

Connor quickly ran into the room just as Anton's eyes snapped open. Anton sat up while Katherine stood, but Connor lightly grabbed hold of her and pulled her out of the way.

"What are you doing?" Katherine asked in Latin

"We don't know who that is," Connor said in Latin.

Anton growled as he moved the bedding back and he got out of bed. His eyes were wide and wild and he shuffled his feet as he walked.

Daryl, Caroline and Murphy ran in the room while Murphy removed the gun from under his robe and Connor moved Katherine behind him.

"Do you have any idea how much that hurt?!" Anton asked with a growl to his voice and his chest rose and fell with his quick breathing.

"Not as much as this will," Connor said in Latin. He removed the gun from under his robe when he took aim and fired the gun. Anton screamed as the bullet ripped through his right knee and he fell to the floor. Murphy stood next to Connor when Murphy fired the gun and the bullet ripped through Anton's left knee.

"Please! Do it!" Anton panted in English after he placed the palms of his hands on the carpet and he looked at them.

Connor and Murphy looked at each other as they had a silent conversation then they carefully walked behind Anton.

"You have to sit up a little," Caroline said.

They watched as Anton tried to straighten up when Murphy cautiously reached over and pulled Anton upright. Anton growled as Connor and Murphy placed the end of the barrels of the guns against the back of Anton's head and he closed his eyes.

"Hurry. I can't hold on much longer," Anton said.

"And Shepherds we shall be. For Thee, My Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So, we shall flow a river forth to Thee and teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti," Connor and Murphy said at the same time then fired the guns and Anton's body fell to the floor.

Caroline's mind replayed the subway scene where she had watched Connor and Murphy fight the drug dealers and she remembered watching Connor and Murphy catching the buttle casings just like they did after killing Anton.

"Master!" Maurice shouted in French as he ran into the room and Daryl caught the plastic containers before Maurice dropped them.

"He asked them to do it," Katherine explained in French.

"Get out!" Maurice shouted in French as he knelt down next to Anton's body. They watched him sobbing and Connor led the way as they left the room.

"It had to be done. Now he is at peace," the Blue Lady said in French then vanished.

They looked at each other as they headed down the hallway and the sounds of violins, harps and choir voices faded.

A short time later, the car and black vans moved down the road while Daryl looked out the window and Katherine looked at the identification card in her hand. She had gone to get the identification card before they left and she also removed the framed photographs of Anton and Andre with Pamela Milton. The plastic containers were placed in one of the black vans and Katherine told the guards to bring the plastic containers to Connor and Murphy's private quarters after they returned to the cathedral.

"Tell me summat," Murphy asked while he turned slightly in the seat to look at Caroline, who was sitting next to him. "How did you know which books would open the bookcase?"

"It has to do with Du Monte," Caroline said.

"It does?" Connor asked.

"We now know he and his brother are identical twins."

"Right."

"And one was very different from the other."

"You're right," Katherine said.

"One minute he was polite. Th'next, he wanted t'cut out Daryl's tongue," Connor said.

"He also wanted me t'let Caroline poison herself when I suggested she taste th'food we were havin' fer dinner," Murphy said then he lowered his head. "Not that I would've let you do it."

"I know you wouldn't've," Caroline said and she slid his right hand into her left hand.

"There were those two portraits," Daryl said.

"Th'hats were under th'opposite arms," Murphy said.

"The last clue was the room Daryl and I found," Caroline said.

"You mean the nursery?" Daryl asked.

"Yeah."

"Du Monte had kids?" Katherine asked.

"No."

"Then the nursery was Du Monte's."

"Right."

"Maurice was surprised when he saw us in there," Daryl said.

"Which means Maurice knew their secret."

"But why hide the fact there were two of them?" Katherine asked.

"Dunno," she said with a shrug of her shoulders.

"What does that have to do with how you knew which books opened the bookcase?"

"Two of my favorite books to read growin' up were the Three Musketeers and the Man in the Iron Mask."

"I had to read those books in high school. Wasn't the Man in the Iron Mask the sequel to the Musketeers?"

"Yeah, it was."

"What do the books have to do with Du Monte?" Connor asked.

"The Man in the Iron Mask was about the twin brother of the king in the Musketeers. The twin had been sent away as a baby. When the king found out about him, he was afraid his brother would try and take the throne. He had his brother kidnapped, placed in a tower and his face was covered with an iron mask."

"Damn," Daryl grumbled.

"The Musketeers found out about the twin and broke him out of the tower."

"What were they gonna do with him?"

"They were gonna replace the king, who was a real asshole."

"They get away with it?"

"Yeah. They put the king in the iron mask and put him back in the tower with a deaf and mute servant to take care of him."

"Why did they use a deaf and mute servant?"

"The servant couldn't hear him rant that he was the king or tell anyone he was up there."

"Hmph."

"So, Maurice was the deaf and mute servant?" Katherine asked.

"I think so," Caroline said. "While I was lookin' at the books, I saw the Musketeers and the Iron Mask books. That's when I figured they were how you opened the bookcase."

"Pretty good guess," Katherine said with a grin.

Daryl looked at them when he glanced down at the envelope in his hands. Before they had left the estate, Maurice had given Daryl the envelope. Maurice explained to Caroline that Anton wanted them to have what was in the envelope, but he didn't say what it was.

"Here," Daryl said and he handed the envelope to Connor. Connor opened the envelope when he removed the pieces of paper and he opened the pieces of paper. The words were in French and Connor leaned back against the cushion.

"'I, Anton Louis Du Monte, am writing what is my final confession. Ever since I was an infant, I was a fraud. A fake. A lie. But through no fault of my own. My father, Jean-Phillipe Marius Du Monte, was a devious man. When he learned my mother was having twins, he came up with a plan to fool not only his advisories, but the world in general. He would tell people he had only one child, but, if said child died, he would deny it. The only flaws in his plan were if the twins were not identical or if one of the twins was the opposite sex. To my misfortune, my brother and I were born identical. I became my brother's shadow. Never to be seen. Never to go outside or leave the nursery,'" Connor read and frowned.

"Christ," Murphy said.

"Lord's name," Connor said then he looked at the letter. "'Our father sent for a tutor when we were of schooling age, but my brother, Andre Henri, wasn't interested in lessons. He just wanted to play. His favorite game was making me pretend to be him. When my father or my mother found out about our deception, it was I who was punished. Though not too harshly or all of my father's plans would have been for naught.'"

Connor handed the first piece of paper to Murphy then Connor looked at the second piece of paper.

"'When it was found out that my brother was not in school, my father sent both of us to a boarding school in America. He didn't do business there, so it was safe for me to attend classes with my brother. It was there where my brother and I met Pamela Milton,'" Connor read.

"What does he say about her?" Katherine asked.

"'The three of us were inseparable. She enjoyed our antics and Andre was infatuated with her. She was smart, cunning and from a rich and powerful family. He thought all those characteristics would impress our father and would allow him to marry Pamela at some point. Unfortunately, our father did not approve. He insisted Andre break off all ties with her. Andre, not wanting to appear to be a cad, told me to break things off with her in his stead then he would deny it and say she broke things off with him,'" Connor read and Caroline frowned, crossing her arms under her breasts.

"Asshole," Caroline grumbled.

"'What Andre didn't expect was for her to break things off with him before he had the chance to break things off with her. It turns out her father had our family investigated and did not want her associating with us. Andre wasn't upset, but I did miss her friendship. After we graduated, I stayed in America. Our father demanded my return, but I refused. In fact, I faked my death by having it appear like my car had fallen off a cliff into the sea and closed the bond I shared with my brother.'"

Connor handed the second piece of paper to Murphy then Connor looked at the third piece of paper.

"'How was I able to pull off such a feat? Unbeknownst to my father, I had my faithful servant, Maurice, take money our father sent for our upkeeping and education and invest it for me. The money from the investments allowed me to attend university in America and I studied science. When I graduated from university, I returned to Paris. There, I found out my parents had died in a fire. I was curious about the fire and asked Maurice to investigate. He couldn't find much, but the fire had occurred in their bedroom and both of them were found in their bed."

"His brother did it," Daryl grumbled while thoughts of their mother dying in a fire when he was a kid moved through his head.

"I think you're right," Connor said then looked at the letter. "'Andre had taken control of the family business. And everything was his. I still do not know why I came home. All I know is I had to."

"I think it had to do with guilt," Katherine said.

"'My return from the dead was met with no celebration. In fact, Andre had me placed in…,'"

"In one of the towers," Caroline said and he nodded.

"'Maurice was able to free me from my prison and I immediately left for Paris. I found an apartment and employment at a well-respected laboratory Over the years, I worked on a wide variety of projects. Then we developed something we should never had created,'" Connor read.

"The virus which destroyed the world," Katherine said and he nodded.

"'I made copies of my research and sent the information via email to my apartment. There, I would make hard copies of the information then delete the emails. When people became ill, my fellow scientists and I started working on a cure. As the months went by, I was contacted by other scientists from around the world and they told me what they found out about those who fell ill,'' Connor said then handed the third piece of paper to Murphy.

"What did they find out?" Katherine asked.

"He said they were changing."

"You mean they were becoming faster, more agile, stronger and smarter?"

"Yeah."

"Damn," Caroline said.

"'Sometime later, I was contacted by a Doctor Edwin Jenner in America, but even he hadn't any success with a cure. He recommended a researcher in Barcelona. I got in contact with the researcher, but I haven't heard from him in a long time. When my fellow scientists fell ill, I decided to leave Paris and return home. Andre assured me things had changed. I know now that he was lying. What a fool I was. Upon my return, Andre showed me how strong his side of our bond had become. He tortured me for days. I fought back, but he somehow got a foothold in my mind. I became his slave, but I had given Maurice my research and told him to hide it,'" Connor said then he handed the fourth piece of paper to Murphy.

"This is gettin' really creepy," Caroline said.

"Yeah," Connor said with a nod of his head. "'Over time, I was able to free myself from Andre's control. The reason why has to do with Andre becoming paranoid. More so than normal. He thought the Macabre had been sent by his enemies and had sent word to Pamela Milton for help. I don't know how he was able to find her. All I know is he was desperate. Then, last year, Andre was attacked by Macabre. I thought I was finally free. I was wrong.'"

Connor handed Murphy the fifth piece of paper.

"'When Andre returned as a Macabre, our bond had returned as well. The problem was the bond had changed. It was stronger. Darker. He took control of my mind more and more. But what was there wasn't Andre or me. That was when I decided to send for Cardinal and Bishop. I heard about them from the guards or servants who had gone to the cathedral for one reason or another. I was told they were good at getting rid of evil,'" Connor read and he glanced at Murphy. "'I hope they will agree to help me. If they do agree, I will give them my research and will beg them to take the research to Barcelona. The scientist I want them to deliver the research to is….'"

"Who?" Murphy asked.

"It doesn't say," Connor said as he handed the piece of paper to him. "Guess he either didn't have time t'finish th'letter or that thing inside Andre didn't want him t'tell us."

"Or Andre didn't want him to," Daryl said with a sigh.

Murphy placed the pieces of paper back in the envelope then he handed the envelope to Daryl and Daryl placed the envelope on his lap. They sat in silence as the car moved down the road and the sunlight shimmer off the windshield.

The Commonwealth

Duncan Keller sat in the cell while Carol, Hornsby and Mercer stood outside the cell and Duncan glared at them.

"Has he said anything?" Carol asked Mercer.

"No," Mercer said.

"I don't understand why he did it," Lance said.

"Revenge. Money. Maybe ransom them off for Milton's release," Carol said

"Just her release?" Lance grumbled with a sad face.

Carol felt a little sorry for Hornsby when they walked down the hallway and Hornsby placed his hands in the pockets of his pants.

"Are you sure it's a good idea to let Frazer and his crew take you to France?" Mercer asked Carol.

"I wasn't going to go alone," Carol said.

"If you are making a rescue party, count me in," Lance said.

"You want to go rescue help them?" Mercer asked with a suspicious look in his eyes.

"What? Like what I told her," Lance said as he pointed to Carol. "Just because Dixon held a knife to my throat doesn't mean I don't want to do the right thing."

"Not sure why, but I believe him," Carol said.

"Thank you. Who else are you taking with you on the rescue mission?"

"Just Negan, you and me so far."

"And me," Mercer said while glaring at Hornsby.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

They walked out of the building and down the stairs as Carol headed for the carriage and the guard opened the door.

"Where are we going?" Lance asked as he got in the carriage.

"Hilltop," Carol said and the guard closed the door. He nodded to the driver and the carriage headed down the road.

Hilltop

Maggie listened while Carol explained about Trask, Duncan and where Daryl and Caroline were and Maggie crossed her arms under her breasts. She wasn't sure if she could trust Hornsby, but she had started to trust Negan over the past year.

"Are you sure these guys are telling the truth?" Maggie asked.

"No, but they know if they are lying that we will kill them," Carol said.

"Aunt Carol!" Judith suddenly cried out while she, RJ and Hershel ran to Carol and Dog followed close behind them. Carol had dropped the kids and Dog off before going to Oceanside so they could visit with Maggie and Hershel. She hugged Judith and RJ then patted the top of the dog's head and Judith frowned. "Have you found Uncle Daryl and Aunt Caroline?"

"No, but we know where they are."

"Where are they?" RJ asked.

"France."

"How did they get there?" Hershel asked.

"They were taken there by ship," Carol said then explained what happened.

"Can we go with you to get them back?" RJ asked.

"No. I'm sorry, but you can't."

"We can fight," Judith said.

"I know, but Uncle Daryl and Aunt Caroline would never forgive me if something happened to you."

Judith, RJ and Hershel watched while Carol, Maggie, Mercer and Hornsby went into the house to talk some more about the rescue mission and Judith looked at the carriage. Smiling, she whispered her plan to RJ and Hershel and they nodded.

Notre-Dame Cathedral

The guards walked the perimeter while Daryl sat on the top of the stairs and he took a long drag of the cigarette Connor had given him. The door opened while Caroline walked outside and she looked at the clouds moving over the full moon.

"Heard they call it a Wolf's Moon," Daryl grumbled while Caroline walked to sit down next to him.

"Does that mean we'll have to fight werewolf Macabre?" she teased and he snorted a laugh.

"Ain't no such thing."

"Says the man who claimed to have seen a Chupacabra as a kid," she teased and he flicked some ash onto the step. They sat in silence as he smoked and she looked at the guards. "Where did you put the information that Du Monte gave us?"

"Connor put it upstairs in their place," Daryl said as he looked at her. "How are things goin' with you and Murphy?"

"They're good," she said then she noticed the look in his eyes. "What's wrong?"

"Just wonderin' how we're gonna get to Barcelona."

The door opened while Connor and Murphy walked outside and they went to sit next to Daryl. Daryl dropped the cigarette to the ground as he squashed the cigarette under his boot then he turned to look at Connor and Murphy.

"Have you figured out how we're gonna get to Barcelona?" Daryl asked.

"I suggest you use th'train," Connor said.

"You have a train!?" Caroline asked as her eyes widened

"Yeah. Though we don't use it that often."

"When can we leave?" Daryl asked.

"Tomorrow afternoon."

They sat in silence when a low gurgling sound came from their right and they stood up. The guards shined flashlights into the darkness when two Macabre walked out of the darkness and Murphy ran to the doors. He pushed the buttons on the panel near the doors and the alarms sounded. The guards ran up the stairs while Murphy opened the door and the guards ran by them.

"Damn!" Daryl said when the Macabre hopped up onto the stair railings and sat on their haunches. Daryl and Caroline removed the knives from the holders on their belts as the Macabre jumped into the air and landed in front of Daryl and Caroline. Before they could slam the knives into the heads of the Macabre, gunfire filled the air and the heads of the Macabre exploded. "What the hell?!"

Caroline turned to see Connor and Murphy standing in the doorway and they had guns in their hands. Daryl and Caroline ran inside as the guard closed the door and Connor pushed the buttons on the panel near the doors. Iron bars slid in front of the doors as she walked to Connor and Murphy and they saw the anger in her eyes.

"Showoffs," she said and they gave her a smug look. She hugged them as Connor and Murphy laughed and Daryl smiled, shaking his head.
