Previously on the Owl House: Return of the Lost Son, Lincoln and Luz are allured by the school of witchcraft and demons known as Hexside and make friends in plantmancer Willow Park, illusionist Augustus "Gus" Porter, the twins Emira and Edric, and enemies in the pretentious Amity Blight after infiltrating the facility posing as an abomination (Luz) and a foreign exchange student (Lincoln) Meanwhile, Eda and King make another bet regarding the loyalty of her new apprentices and his training of a young trash worm who later attacks the demon after running out of dog treats.
The newest surprise that the young encounter is a mysterious white construct born from a drop of Lincoln's exposed to Willow's abomination matter, far more evolved and sentient than the standard abomination and able to create more of his kind just by touching something. Willow is transferred by Principal bump onto the plant track and the outsiders are banned from returning to Hexside, but that's how the cookie crumbles.

We see a 9-year-old Lincoln on a bench in the school's playground looking up at the sky with a smile, before the mood is ruined by a group of delinquent children.
Bad Boy #1: Look, there is that freak again.
Mean Girl #1: How is it still in this school?
Bad Boy #2: It doesn't even belong here.
Bad Girl #2: It should be in a government investigation room.
Tears began to flow to Lincoln at the insulting comments.
Young Lincoln: (crying) N-No. I'm not a freak
Bad Boy #3: Of course you are.
Bad Girl #3: You're the most freak I've ever seen.
Bad Boy #4: Look, besides being a monster, he's also a loud crybaby.
Lincoln: E-Enough. P-Please.
Bad Boy #5: Or what? Will you tell your sisters about us?
Mean Girl #4: Oh right, they all consider you a freak too.
Bad Boy #6: You'll just stay there crying all alone, freak.
Bad Kids: (chanting) Freak! Freak! Freak! Freak!
The young Loud keeps crying, feeling something rising within him about to explode before someone new comes in between him and the bullies.
Young Girl: (She stands in front of Lincoln protectively surprising him) Leave him alone you bullies!

Dusk
Lincoln's eyes widened while he was breathing a lot, he touched his cheek and realized he was crying and wipes it quickly after cleaning his eyes. He looks forward to see Luz, who was filming King struggling with a sock that was stuck in the nose, focusing on his left eye.
Luz: (Voiceover) And here we have the most fearsome creature in the world, the King of Demons. Facing his natural enemy, the ducky sock!
King: (grunting, tears the sock to pieces, then punches the remains) Where are you now, ducky sock?
Lincoln: (stands up) Then why did you call Luz and me to come here? (not mentioning that he was remembering something from that day)
King: Oh yeah. (Grunting, climbs on a table) Human Luz and Azarathian Lincoln, you've been so obsessed with witchcraft that you haven't learned anything about my kind. Get ready for... (Rips off a curtain to reveal a corkboard of photos and drawings of various demons; puts on a hat and spins the cord on top of it.)
King: Demons 101. Demons like me are evil tricksters of twilight, creatures of sulfur and bone.
Luz: (Zooming in with her camera) And cute little legs.
King: (sighs, pulling out a blue and purple pen with a amethyst top) And cute little paws. Real. We live only to create chaos and misery. Our only weaknesses are purified water and passive-aggressive comments. Sometimes.
Lincoln: Oh, so you guys are sensitive.
King: Even demons have inner demons (Tears off one of the images to reveal a snarling demon) The most powerful demon of all is Snaggleback. He is a-
Luz: Bad boy!
A colored filter appears on the screen, followed by several stickers with sparkles, and a grinning face, two labeled "BIG SHOT" and "FIERCE". Luz points her phone down and taps on her screen as Lincoln laughs.
King: Guys, pay attention. This information could save your life someday.
Luz: No, no. I am so paying attention. This is my "pay attention face". (Nodding) Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Lightning crashes, followed immediately by a thunder rumbling. Luz, Lincoln and King look outside.
King: Uh-oh. It seems like it's going to rain.
Luz: (gasps) I love the rain (she runs out the door and Lincoln follows her)
King: Hey, wait.
Luz: (Opens the door and walks out with Lincoln, exhales) I always love to feel the first drops in my hair. (Kneels down to talk to a flower) I bet you do too, buddy.
A drop of water falls on the flower, causing it to wither and die immediately
Luz and Lincoln: What?!
Eda: (Runs to the house) Boiling rain! Everybody inside now!
Luz: Huh?
Eda grabs both of their arms and drags all three of them inside. Objects crash and rattle.
Eda: Ugh! That was close. But the important thing is that you didn't get hurt.
He looked up to see that Luz had landed on Lincoln, knocking both teens against the billboard.
Luz: (Lying painfully) Yep. Not hurt.
Lincoln groans as a glass falls on his head.
Play music: The Owl House Theme
The portal appears and opens.
Luz and Lincoln appear, and appear to be going through the sky upwards, but the camera shows that it was upside down and that actually, they were falling.
Eda rescues Luz and Lincoln, and along with King, they appear flying the Owl Staff, in the direction of The Owl House.
The camera follows them to the Owl House.
It approaches the door, where Hooty is, Luz opens it and is seen twirling the staff, until she leaves it standing, Luz puts her right hand on her hip, and holds the staff with her left while Lincoln draws his sword and strikes a similar pose
Eda takes the staff away from her and Luz gets nervous, Lincoln giving a funny one while King stands in front of the camera to wave with his arms outstretched.
Willow, Gus, and Amity appear in three frames.
Willow makes a heart with her hands, Gus holds out his arms in celebration, and Amity just ignores, and turns her back, crossing her arms.
King appears holding a stuffed rabbit, along with many other stuffed animals around.
He pretends to rule these stuffed animals, until some of them fall on him, while other stuffed animals keep falling in front of the camera.
Luz flies over Bonesborough while Lincoln rides alongside, where she meets Tiny Nose, Willow and Gus.
Later, Eda and King are seen running from the guards, They help them escape, but later Luz loses control of the staff, and are chased by a creature.
Luz, Lincoln, Eda and King are on the roof of the Owl House, where Luz casts her Light Spell, making it go into the night.

Chapter 5
The Intruder
Front Porch, The Owl House, Boiling Isles, Demon Realm
Outside the Owl House, where King is bandaging a burn on Luz's arm. Another blue smiling bandage is put on the muzzle. Lincoln appears unscathed, his clothes are burned but his skin is untouched.
King: Look, we're boo-boo buddies now.
Luz: (squeals, then falls over on her left side, her hood raised over her head) Oh my gosh, I love you so much. A boiling rainstorm on the Boiling Isles. The weather here is so fun.
Lincoln: (looks at Eda, who is creating a spell under a force field) So this place is called the Boiling Isles because its rain is boiling. This place is very dangerous, but it has a very clever name.
Eda: Yeah, we don't have weather. We have plagues, gorenados, shale hail, painbows.
King: It's like a rainbow, but looking at it turns you inside out.
Luz pulls the drawstrings of her sweatshirt to close it while Lincoln had a terrified look.
Eda: So, until the boiling rain stops, no one is allowed outside tonight.
King: And if the rain doesn't get you, the Snaggleback will. (Opens book showing pictures of a pink shelled beast with razor sharp teeth) They wander in the rain, feeding on boiled tourists.
Eda: Well, whatever the case, this force field spell should protect the house from boiling rains and made-up demons.
Hooty: Hoooo! Well, hurry up with that force field. That rain is getting closer to my precious stucco.
Eda: Yeah, yeah. I have it.
She uses her staff to grab the light ball and stamps the staff down to the ground. A round orange force field engulfs the house, then shrinks to shape closely around it. Eda begins walking towards the house.
Luz: Wow! Someday I would like to be as cool as Eda the Owl Lady. Magical, sassy, surprisingly foxy for her age.
Lincoln: By the way, I always wondered why the locals call you the Owl Lady?
Eda: 'Cause I'm so wise.
Hooty: 'Cause she coughs up rat bones.
King: I think it's 'cause he gets distracted by shiny objects.
Eda: No, I don't.
King takes out a pen. He clicks it and the diamond on top of it shines.
Eda: (Delightedly as her pupils dilate) It sparkles and shimmers. It shines and delights. I must have it for my nest...
She lunges for the pen, but King puts it behind his back and she crashes to the ground. Eda groans.
Luz: Do you have a nest? I want a nest! Nest party!
Lincoln: (He helps Eda to get up and sees her tired) Are you okay?
Eda: (Tiredly) Ugh. That force field really took it out of me.
King: Uh-oh. Moving a little slow. Age finally catching up with ya? (Screams as Eda hoods his head with her hat) Darkness!
Luz: (Watching Eda enter the house) This is perfect. Since we'll be stuck in the house all night, Eda won't have any excuse to teach us a spell (Follow Eda)
Lincoln: (stops her) Luz, she's too tired to teach us anything.
King: Also, don't you want to finish our lesson? I was gonna let you scratch a demon's tummy. Me!
Luz: Oh, uh, sorry King. But... magic.
King is visibly frustrated. His horn pierces his hat, causing it to deflate.
Lincoln: (looks at King) Don't worry King. Let's continue when we're done.
King: Forget it (He enters the house frustrated)
Lincoln looks at him with sadness on his face and sighs before closing the door behind him as he enters the Owl Lady's house.
Eda walks behind a privacy screen. She snaps her fingers, causing a flash of light as she drops her staff. When she emerges from the other side, she is in his pajamas. She sighs as she lies down on the couch. Luz's shadow falls on her.
Eda: Ahh!
Luz: Oh Eda, have I told you how good your fang looks today?
Eda: Whatever it is, no.
Luz: Uh, and your hair is like... girl.
Eda: I'm not teaching you two magic tonight. I'm sleepy (covers her body with a blanket) I'm a sleepy little owl.
Luz: Please, Eda, please. How are we supposed to earn our witch staffs if we don't know any spells?
Eda: No. Sleep. (She covers her whole head with the blanket)
Lincoln approaches.
Luz: There has to be a way to wake her up.
Lincoln: (thinks and looks at pen) I have an idea (picks up the pen and clicks it)
Eda: (gasps waking up) Sparkle thing.
Eda sits up, still wrapped in the blanket, and watches as Lincoln clicks his pen several times.
Lincoln: (glances at her) Oh, this?
Eda tosses aside the blanket in favor of perching on the arm of the couch.
Eda: Ooh!
Lincoln moves the pen tauntingly. Eda swipes for it.
Lincoln: Nope.
Eda falls.
Luz: (Leans towards Eda) Teach us one spell and we'll give you your sparkle thing.
Eda: I respect the cunning of both of you, especially you, Lincoln. I see that you brought out that side of your father already, but I also hate you both for it.
Lincoln and Luz look at each other with a smile.
Living Room, The Owl House, Boiling Isles, Demon Realm
A flash of lightning with a clap of thunder cuts to Eda standing in front of the two teenagers.
Eda: Well, let's start with you Lincoln. The Azarathians are born with a natural affinity to magic. Since you are new to creating your magic, you have no idea how to properly use them, that book you have will only get you so far in life. Well, let me tell you, kid, learning the five main elements is hard. But since you've already mastered two elements; lightning and fire, I'll make it easy for you (looks at Draven's book, skimming the pages and stops on a page) This one is easy.
Lincoln: (grabs the grimoire and reads it) Air Cutter?
Eda: It is a technique that is very similar to the Barrage, the Azarathians were able to rotate and control the direction of the Air Cutter enough to levitate, and remain in the Air for as long as they wish or can maintain it.
Luz: (shocked) It's like Avatar. Lincoln, if these spells could be correlated to that, imagine the plethora of techniques you can pull from other forms of books and media.
Eda: Now, this spell requires a lot of concentration.
Lincoln turns and pulls out Caliburn, he sighs and swings the sword like a tornado and a vortex comes out on his feet and begins to levitate.
Lincoln: (opens his eyes and is surprised) Wow this is amazing! Wow!
But by losing concentration he makes the vortex disappear and causes Lincoln to fall on his feet.
Lincoln: Ouch.
Eda: (helps him get up) I told you not to lose concentration.
Lincoln: I'm sorry but it's unbelievable. But how can I do it without Caliburn?
Eda: Well from what I've seen of Draven and what he's told me about them, the Azarathians can perform magic very differently from everyone else.
Lincoln: Seriously how?
Eda: Instead of using a staff or making a circle. They just snap his fingers and some kind of electric spark appears gold in color and bam! Do magic. Some have even managed to bypass this requirement, casting it simply by instinct. The staff and circles are simply mediums to them.
Lincoln was confused by this and looked at his hand. He snaps his fingers... but nothing happens.
Lincoln: It's okay, he said. How did he do it?
Eda: (scratches her neck) Actually, he just bluntly stated, (coughs as to imitate him) "The path of the Azarathian is long and arduous. There are no shortcuts in this life, you just have to be focused". I for one have no idea what that really means. That is why you will have to learn how to do it on your own. Now it's your turn Luz.
Luz: (squealed with excitement) Finally!
Eda: If you want a witch staff like mine, don't make me repeat myself. (gasps as she wakes up) Witch staffs have power embedded in them. Well except for the sword of course since the Azarathians put an oath on all their chosen weapons, artifacts and etc. where only an Azarathian could reach them and be found worthy of wielding them.
Luz: Gimme! (She wanted to grab the stick but Lincoln gently stops her)
Eda: But before earning one, every witch needs to know how to cast spells on her own. Now... (throws staff to the side) tonight I will show you how to create... light.
She draws a circle with your finger in the air, which glows orange. White light sparks in the center, forming a large ball of light. It descends until he is in front of Luz's face, where he disappears. Luz gasps and Lincoln is surprised.
King: Yawn! Who needs another boring spell lesson when you could be learning all the fun ways a demon could kill you? (Holds up a drawing of a demon with giant teeth gnawing on a person) Look how teethy. Bite, bite.
Luz: Be quiet. I need to focus.
Eda: Now, humans think magic is made out of nothing, but that's stupid. Everything comes from something. Let me ask you, kids. Where do you think the magic comes from?
Lincoln: Various sources and/or realms which are called upon by those of affinity, or are transmuted from a higher power such as mana, aether and ethereal energy respectively?
Eda gives an odd stare to Lincoln, feeling like he was on to something despite his incorrect answer.
Luz: Eh, from the heart?
Eda: Actually, you're right.
Luz gasps with joy and blushes, with Lincoln giving her a pat on the back.
Eda: No, really (She pulls out a diagram of viscera from her hair and shows it to Luz, the diagram showing a large green, hairy sack growing off the side of the heart, matching its size) It comes from a sack of magical bile attached to the heart of a witch.
Lincoln: Oh, gross. (puts his hands on his chest) Wait! is one of those things inside of me?
Luz: Can I keep that?
Eda: (Thinks about it) Maybe? I don't know. And no. (She tucks the diagram back into her hair) Now, it all depends on the spell circle (Draws a big circle in the air) The bigger the circle, the more powerful the spell.
The circle bursts out, creating a light much larger than before. It fades much faster.
Luz: But how can I, little ol' Luz, do magic if I don't have a magical bile sack?
Eda: You know, I'm actually not sure.
Lincoln and Luz: What?
Eda: I know witches did magic differently in the past, but I never bothered to figure out how. (laughs, snorts. She crouches down and ruffles her hair)
Luz: Eda!
Eda: Don't worry, you'll figure it out. Now— (stands, cracks her neck, and slaps Lincoln on the back) I need to lie down.
Lincoln: We already finished the training that quickly. Ok, King. Let's continue with the lesson.
King: Thank you! I've already got my next billboard all set up.
Luz: (sees Eda leaving and stops her) That's it? Wait! I need to see you do the circle thingy again. I'll record it on my phone this time (She takes out the phone and starts recording Eda, starting from her feet and reaching her face) Smile! You are in front of the camera. One more spell won't kill you.
Eda: (Groans) Fine. Now, you see, the... (Draws a shaky circle) The spell circle is really key because... (The circle disappears as she yawns) Oh boy. (falls face down)
King: Welp, it looks like one more spell killed Eda.
Luz yelps as Lincoln approaches Eda and turns her around on her back.
Luz: Oh my gosh. My obsession with spells knocked Eda out. I'm a monster.
King: Bap! (Slaps Eda's face) Yes. She's out. Bap! (Hits Eda's face, laughs)
Lincoln: King!
king: What? Just to be sure.
Luz: We should get help, right?
Luz runs for the door, but Lincoln stops her by grabbing her arm.
Lincoln: Boiling rains, remember?
Hooty: No, let her try. It will be funny.
Lincoln gives him a dirty look and King slams the door.
Luz: But what if Eda is dead?
Eda: (sleep-talking) Shiny thing. Big nest. (Snoring)
King: Do you remember when her head got cut off last week? That woman can survive anything. She's probably just tired of staying up all night chasing shrews and voles.
Lincoln: Well, we can't just leave her on the floor. Come help me take her to the room.
King tiredly looks at Eda.
Eda's Room, The Owl House, Boiling Isles, Demon Realm
A thunderclap later, Lincoln and Luz are dragging Eda into her room by her feet. Luz tosses a small animal skull out of Eda's giant nest before pulling her into it. Eda continues snoring.
Lincoln: Why is she so heavy? Did she have a big breakfast today?
Luz: Sorry to push you, Miss Eda. Please don't hurt me when you wake up.
King: Should I bap her again?
Luz: (rubs King's head) Just let her rest, you little goober.
Lincoln: Come on. Let's go downstairs (they both leave the room)
King: (hits Eda again) Bap! (cackles as he runs off)
Living Room, The Owl House, Boiling Isles, Demon Realm
In the living room, where King is redrawing a demon with several mouths on the page "Am I a Demon?", asking questions regarding locust vomit, weird mouths everywhere, too many hooves, answering that if that is correct, you are a demon. When he's done, he picks up his notepad.
King: Yeah, Yeah.
Lincoln was next to King, snapping his fingers but still nothing happened.
Lincoln: (growling) Grr. I've been doing this for an hour but I still can't do it. (looks at Luz) What about you Luz did you accomplish something?
Luz: (groans, trying to draw a spell circle) Nothing. This is all she does. Why do you have to be so cryptic, Owl Lady? (Hit play on the video)
Eda: (In the video) Now, you see, the spell circle is really...
King: (Puts her notepad on Luz's phone) Hey, you know what's really cryptish? Let me tell you about the most spine-chilling demon (Lift up notepad to reveal a fish-shaped demon with arms) Smoochy-pie the Sweetie Baby!
Lincoln: (looks at him confused) Ehh is that a demon?
King: He's... Well, he's a lot more menacing than his name implies.
Lincoln: Well I'm going to make peanut butter and sauerkraut sandwiches (he goes to the kitchen)
Luz: Not now, King. I want to decipher this spell. But if I don't have a magic sac, what's the point? I'll just be twirling my fingers around un-magically forever.
King: Why do you want to learn magic so bad, anyway?
Luz: I was nobody at home (sits and looks at Lincoln) We were both nobodies. He was my only friend, and when I found out he's a witch, an inhuman one at that, I… wished I could be like him too. Becoming a witch is my chance to be somebody. Someone like Lincoln.
King: How did you two become such close friends?
Luz: (smiles) It was 5 years ago. Our mothers met at work and became good friends, after we had moved into Royal Woods. I saw him being called a freak by some mean kids just because his eyes were gold, his hair was white and his ears long. I defended him and they wouldn't back down, even engaging in a fight. I remember losing that fight, but something happened behind me suddenly and I blacked out for a moment.
She remembers a boy screaming out in rage, the others crying out in pain.
Luz: (shakes her head) When I came to, he was gone and all the bullies were lying on the ground injured. Lincoln's mother, Rita, later invited us to her house for dinner and we gladly accepted. Then when we arrived all his sisters began to ask me a million things and when I showed them a fanfiction that I made, they looked at me with disgust and moved away. I felt bad for myself and went out onto the patio. There I saw Lincoln and at that moment, a beautiful friendship was born.
The Loud House

We see an 11-year-old Luz. Her hair reached her shoulders. She was wearing a white brush with a dolphin logo and gray jeans. In her hand was a fanfiction that she made herself. After Lucy, Lana and Lola left her just as she was about to show her fanfiction, she went to the patio to be alone.
When she opens the door, she is surprised to see Lincoln sitting there. He had an orange polo shirt, blue jeans, gray socks with blue and red stripes, and white sports shoes with red stripes. Luz looked at him very closely and saw his ears that were pointy.
Young Lincoln: (turns around and is surprised to see her) Oh... hello. (timidly)
Young Luz: H-Hello.
Young Lincoln: Y-You're the daughter of my mom's new friend.
Young Luz: Yes. I'm Luz Noceda. And you are...
Young Lincoln: Lincoln. Lincoln Loud.
Young Luz: Hello Lincoln. Can I sit down? (Lincoln nods with and Luz sits down)
Young Lincoln: (Looks at the book of Luz's work) Is that fanfiction?
Young Luz: (beams) Yes! I did it myself. I want you to read it.
Young Lincoln nods and begins to read it.
Young Lincoln: (shocked) Wow, this is awesome. Who knew you had such talent.
Young Luz: Seriously, your sisters didn't think the same.
Young Lincoln: Yeah. I'm sorry for my sisters, they're always like this. Most of them think I'm a freak just for having these pointy ears, even my dad.
Young Luz: (pauses) Well, I don't think they make you a freak. I think that makes you unique.
Young Lincoln: Thank you. Can I read the whole book with you?
Young Luz: Sure!
Luna goes out to the patio looking for Lincoln and she looks at the two of them and smiles, relieved that Lincoln was able to make at least one friend.

Present Day
Luz: Since then we became friends and we were almost inseparable. As he was rejected and messed with by others. I always defended him but sometimes I was hurt too and the roles reversed.
Lincoln: (returning with the sandwiches) What were the two of you talking about?
Luz: (lying) We were talking about how I can do magic.
King: If I help you learn that spell, could we finish our lesson?
Luz: (Puts her phone away) Oh, yes, yes. You can teach us about demons all week if you help me learn this spell.
Lincoln: But do you know how to cast a spell?
King: Well, she said that witches used to do magic differently, so there has to be a way, right? (draws something and shows it to Luz) And I have a theory. Every day I notice that Eda secretly drinks this special elixir, see? So she always gets an energy boost, see? I think that's where she gets her powers from. And I know where to get some.
Luz: Really?
King: Sí.
Luz: (pulls him into a hug) Thank you so much, you are a prince.
King: King. I'm King.
Luz: Right.
Eda's Room, The Owl House, Boiling Isles, Demon Realm
In Eda's room, where flashes of lightning go off outside her window. Eda is snoring in her nest. The door squeaks open, and King steps in and looks around.
King: Now where could it be...
He notices two bright orange potions on Eda's side table. It starts to creep up, stopping at a metal clang.
King: (gasps) Ha! Nice try.
Trap: Nah, my heart wasn't in it (Leaves)
King continues, pulling up a curtain to get to the table. He reads the label attached to one of the potions.
King: "An elixir a day." Cryptic (Rips off the tag) Nyeh.
He tucks the tag under his collar, then takes the potions and jumps to the ground. She looks between Eda and the potion guiltily, making nervous noises.
King: Nah (Leaves)
Kitchen, The Owl House, Boiling Isles, Demon Realm
Into the kitchen, where Luz is waiting anxiously and wearing a cat apron reading "It's Chow Time!", Lincoln is wearing a chef's hat because why not?
King: Got it!
Luz: (Takes one of the potions and opens it) Wow. I can't believe I'm about to learn magic. Real magic. This is historic.
Lincoln: And… are you sure this is safe to drink?
Luz: There's only one way to find out.
The two clink the potions together, Lincoln chugging down the potion first, then gagging at the taste of it.
Luz slowly takes the potion to her mouth. A clap of thunder startles her, and she fumbles the potion until she crashes to the ground.
Luz: Golden elixir. Gone! This is awful.
Lincoln: Oh no, Eda will kill us for that!
Luz: That's horrible.
King: Who needs a light spell when we have tons of lamps?
The lamps flare up and die.
Lincoln: (glares at King) You just had to say it. People always jinx themselves saying stuff like that!
King: (groans) Hooty controls the lights in the house. He probably fell asleep.
A crash rings out.
Hooty: Hoot! Hoot!
Luz: Hooty! (She takes off her apron and runs.)
Hooty: Hoot, oh, hoot!
Lincoln picks up Caliburn and chases her along with King. The three reach the living room and gasp. A shadowy beast with orange glowing eyes exposing its fanged maw has knocked the door off its hinges and made a mess of the front wall. It leaves deep scratches in the wood next to Hooty, growls when he notices the other three, then runs away.
Lincoln: (runs to Hooty) Hooty! Are you there? (taps his beak several times, forcing his beak out each time, and checks his eye, opening its eyelid)
Luz: Whatever did this escaped into the rain. What could survive that?
King: Oh my gosh! The Snaggleback! It feeds during the rain. It must have stumbled across our house and seen us inside.Something howls. They go outside in time for the shadowy creature to jump through an upper floor window.
Lincoln: Ok, this has gotten scary.
Luz: This is terrifying. So why do you look so happy? (points to King)
King: (Squeals) Because this could be a lesson. This would be a great way to see a wild demon up close and personal.
Luz: Do you want to go towards those creepy sounds? No way!
Lincoln: Yeah, you're crazy!
King: What if Eda gets eaten? She's upstairs and defenseless because the two of them knocked her out.
Luz and Lincoln groaned. The scene cuts to the three preparing for battle. Luz and Lincoln put on green rubber gloves. King sticks a pillow to his chest. Luz puts red and blue bandages under her eyes as if they were black, then smiles. Lincoln grabs his sword. Luz grabs a hockey stick, which King runs past in favor of grabbing Francois.
King: Weh!
Eda's Room, The Owl House, Boiling Isles, Demon RealmPlay
Music: Silent Castle by Jay Varton
The three approach the stairs, Luz using the flashlight on her phone to light the way while Lincoln had his sword in his hand defensively. Floorboards creak as they go upstairs. They reach a hallway and stop when the door to Eda's room opens. They share a nervous look. Lincoln slowly opens the doors all the way, revealing an empty room and a broken window, through which we can again see a lightning strike.
Luz: Oh my gosh.
Lincoln: Eda!
The two run to Eda's nestKing: She got snaggle-backed.
Lincoln: Eda? (Holds up a damaged pillow) No slash marks... Ok, this is bad, so bad!
Luz: King! You are the demon expert. I need your help.
King: I'll go get my demon book
He runs out of the room and down the hall. A shadow growls as it passes over him. A few minutes later he returns holding two books.
King: Wait, wait. First edition or second? (gasps to not see Luz or Lincoln in the room) Guys? (drops the books, one landing on the Snaggleback entry) The Snaggleback got them.
The shadow snarls again as it passes behind him. He chases after it.
King: You craven beast. Give me back my boo-boo buddies.
He rounds a corner and gasps. A door creaks closed, Luz's shoe upside down and Lincoln's face down in front of him.
King: Guys?
He picks up the shoe. Holding it like a weapon, he opens the door and enters the closet. He looks around until noticing a shadow hiding behind clothes.
King: There is nowhere for you to run! (Moves clothes aside)
Behind the curtains, there was a pink-furred demon that appears to be an ape with yellow fangs and a teal tortoise shell with spikes on his back.
King: Snaggleback? Wow. You are a lot shorter in person.
Snaggleback: (Stammering) I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I just needed a place to hide from the rain.
King: Then why did you break down our door and take Luz? That's not cool, man. Bad Snaggleback!
Snaggleback: I didn't do any of that stuff. I snuck in through a window just now.
King: Huh? Well then what...
Another crash.
Snaggleback: Oh no! A twist!
A shadowy claw pulls Snaggleback through the ceiling. Snarls and stomps can be heard as King backs away from the hole. Something bangs against the door. King yells, then whimpers. The door creaks open, revealing the shadowy beast, still snarling. It spits out Snaggleback's shell, then roars.
King: Oh my.
Closet, The Owl House, Boiling Isles, Demon Realm
The beast advances, pushing King against the wall.
King: (yelps) Stay back. Hey hey. I'm the king of demons, okay? And as such, I demand that you barf my friends back up.
The beast screeches and raises a claw. King yells and ducks, and the claws score the wall where his head was a moment before, King runs. He is much more nimble than the beast, rounding corners with ease as the beast slams into walls. King is yelping and the beast is snarling. When King rounds a second corner, Lincoln's arm stretches out and pushes him into a room. The door closes with a squeak. The beast enters the hallway slowly, exhaling loudly. Inside Eda's room, where Luz and Lincoln are holding King. Footsteps are heard outside as a shadow passes through the door.
King: (looks at Lincoln and Luz) Guys?
Luz: King! Oh, I'm so glad you're safe.
Lincoln puts King down.
King: Where did you go?
Lincoln: We were checking on Eda, and she was gone, and then you were gone. After we saw that Eda wasn't there, we got nervous and went looking for you.
Luz: But we tripped and lost our shoes. Hey, you found them. (The two take them from King)
King: I—
Lincoln reequips his shoe while Luz raises her foot to put her shoe on, revealing a piece of paper on the bottom of her foot.)
King: What is that? (Takes it and reads it) "Keeps the curse at bay" (Gasps, pulls the tag from his necklace and puts them together) "An elixir a day, keeps the curse at bay."
Lincoln: Curse? What curse?
Luz: Yes, what are you trying to say?
King: I was wrong the whole time. That's no Snaggleback. That creature is...
They both scream as a clawed hand bursts through the door. A body follows it, growls and turns to reveal that it was an owl beast but the most surprising thing was the familiar face it had.
Luz and Lincoln: Eda?
Eda now resembles a big owl-like monster with black eyes and new gray hair protruding from long, pointed ears. Her body is covered in dark teal fur, she has two dark gray wings and black feet that resemble a bird's. Eda snarls and approaches closer, raising a claw to attack them.
Lincoln draws his sword and stands in front of Luz and King in a protective manner.
Lincoln: Back, don't make me attack you.
The Owl Beast moves closer but looks at Lincoln for a moment and stops dead, Her state surprising Lincoln as if she recognizes something in him, but the calm does not last long as the Owl Beast turned towards Luz and made a leering smile.
Luz screams and braces, Her phone falls out of her pocket and the camera goes off as it hits the ground. The flash makes her pupil shrink, blinding Eda and making her scream. Lincoln takes advantage of that to launch a blast of lightning behind her but it has no effect and she snatches his sword with her claws, throwing it aside.
Luz takes advantage of the distraction to grab King and then Lincoln and hide on a balcony. Eda screams and it echoes loudly. She stalks the room, sniffing. Luz and Lincoln have their hands over their mouths while King has his on his head. The Owl Beast seems to smell them, growls and sniffs closer to them. Luz grabs a potted can and throws it. Eda growls at the sound and chases after it.
Lincoln: (sighs in relief) Ok Let me see if I understand this correctly. The beast that attacked Hooty's house and that wants to attack us is Eda herself. This is crazy!
Luz: Oh, man. Did you see her eyes? They were like— (Snarls.) What happened to her?
King: Don't you see? The elixir I gave you doesn't give Eda powers. It prevents her from becoming that thing. She's turned into a nightmare and it's all my fault. I'm so sorry g-guys. I just wanted you to be into demons like you liked magic. I don't have many friends, and no one even pays that much attention to me. I thought maybe if I taught you, someone would finally care about creatures like me.
Lincoln looked at him and felt sorry, he saw King as if he were a reflection of himself.
Lincoln: Well... (holds out the pen) Let's finish the lesson.
king: Huh?
Luz: Eda turned into some kind of demon and we have to save her. So who knows more about demons than the best teacher in the world?
King brightens up and points to himself. Luz and Lincoln nod. He takes the pen, then giggles and hugs the two. He smacks some leaves onto the floor.
Lincoln: Ok, Master. I hugged you but there is no time for that.
King: True, Let's see (Draws on the leaves, making a crude version of Beast Eda's face) She was bigger, covered in feathers and had giant black eyes. Demons with black eyes are usually sensitive to light (Looks at Luz's phone) That's it. Light! We can use your human wonder rectangle.
Luz: I can't. My camera's all blasted.
King: Then... What about that light spell?
Luz: (sighs) You saw me. I can't draw circles in the air. I'm not like Eda or Lincoln. (Plays the video)
Eda: (On video) ...spell circle is really key...
The video glitches and shows a pattern in the magic circle. The glyph's shape is similar to the electrical symbol for an LED.
A line stretches from the bottom of the spell circle to about two-thirds up. A perfectly horizontal line connects two sides of the circle, one-third up from the bottom of the circle. The ends of the horizontal line are connected to the top of the vertical line. Two slanted bars cut through the vertical line just above the horizontal line. In the space between the top of the vertical line and the top of the circle, a circle that doesn't reach the top and two tangents from the circle to the top finish the glyph.
Luz: (gasps) There's a pattern to the spell circle.
King and Lincoln look at the phone.
King: What? Where?
Luz: (Grabs a leaf and the pen) It looks like this (Draws over the pattern) There.
She taps the pattern with the tip of the pen. The drawing on the leaf begins to glow. All three gasp. The leaf folds in on itself and glows into a small floating ball of light. Luz gently cupping her hands, bringing it to eye level.
Luz: It's beautiful
Lincoln: Wow that's amazing.
Luz: Oh my gosh. I just did magic (Stands up triumphantly) I just did magic! I just did magic!
Lincoln: Shh! Save the excitement for later.
King: We're not going to stop anything with something that small.
Distant screeching makes all of them cower.
Lincoln: (thinks) Not if we can make it bigger. Eda said that the bigger the circle, the more powerful the spell. I have an idea Luz, do you think you can make the same symbol on the ceiling but bigger?
Luz: Sure, but how are we going to get Eda here?
King: Lincoln, can use your Air Cutter to push her away?
Lincoln: But my sword was left behind and I can't do magic (snap fingers but nothing) Come on I still can't do it. I've been doing it all day but nothing.
King: Hmm, you haven't done the spell yet. You want to get focus first before you do it.
Lincoln: Not because I would….I would.
Lincoln thought hard about what Eda said about Draven.
Lincoln: "The path of the Azarathian is long and arduous. There are no shortcuts in this life, you just have to be focused."
Lincoln closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, raises his hand and thinks of a fire spell before snapping his fingers.
Luz and King watched in amazement as Lincoln's hand shot out golden electric sparks. When Lincoln opened his eyes, he was surprised to see a flame of white fire in his hands.
Lincoln: Wow, I did it. All this time I just had to think about magic (he does) it's very cliché if you think about it. Anyway this is the plan.
Luz: Will you help me, boo-boo buddy? (Offers a fist bump.)
King: (Hums.) I'm kind of over that nickname. But okay. (Fist bumps her.)
Living Room, The Owl House, Boiling Isles, Demon Realm
Meanwhile in the living room, where Beast Eda is snooping around. She pounces on the treasure chest next to the fallen door, sniffing at a book. A clicking sound distracts her.
Lincoln: (With flame in one hand and King holding the pen.) Oh, what lovely things that we have in our hands? They're just so dang shiny. Oh my. Oh dear.
The owl beast stares into the fire and pen, cooing. as their light reflects off her black eyes. She screeches and lunges at him. Lincoln and King run and Eda follows them. They keep running before Lincoln moves his hand as if it were a tornado and a vortex came out on his foot and he began to levitate and moves behind the Owl Beast, his sparks begin to come out and he launches an attack of wind, causing Eda to slide on a pile of books and papers, crashing against a wall.
Lincoln: Now!
The Owl Beast gasps as Luz throws a red blanket over its head.
Luz: I'm sorry, Eda. But it's for your own good.
She finishes drawing a giant light glyph on the wall. With a grunt, she punches it to activate it. A blinding light is produced. Eda screams.
Eda's Room, The Owl House, Boiling Isles, Demon Realm
Cut to Eda, back in witch form, lying in her nest with a straw in her mouth, leading to an elixir. She sits up, her left side still partially transformed with her hair ruffled and her left eye still black.
Eda: Ahh! (slurps and returns to normal) W-What happened? Oh, I have the worst headache. And my mouth tastes like roadkill (She pulls her shirt down, her gemstone partially black before she gags and retches)
A giant owl pellet breaks open, revealing Snaggleback.
Snaggleback: I'm just gonna... lie here for a minute.
Eda: (grabs the two potion bottles) Hmm? I was looking for that. Didn't remember bringing two of them.
King: (Walking over) Actually, we found two extra ones in your closet.
Eda: King? King! Did you steal my elixir? I ought to break every bone in your—
King: Shh! (Whispering) Over there.
Luz is surrounded by balls of light. She draws another glyph as thunder rumbles in the background. She activates the glyph and smiles as the ball of light joins the others. And next to her was Lincoln, using the wind spell so that the balls of light would fly towards the open window and go outside.
Eda: Wow. How are they doing that?
King: Lincoln managed to understand the phrase you said to him but Luz, I don't know how she did it, but she did it all by herself. Hey, I, uh, I messed up a lot of stuff back there. And I just wanted to say I'm sorry.
Eda: Well, you better be. I have a long list of disgusting tasks with your name on it. But it's not entirely your fault. I have not been completely honest with you.
Lincoln and Luz come closer.
Lincoln: So you'll tell us how that keeps you from turning into, you know what?
Eda: (sighs) When I was younger, I was cursed. I don't know exactly how it happened, all I know is that if I don't take my elixir... Well, that's why people call me the Owl Lady. No one likes having a curse, but if you follow the right steps, it's manageable.
Lincoln: (quietly) Something I can probably relate to.
Luz: Wow. So are you okay?
Eda: There's nothing for you to worry about. It's all under control, and as long as no one steals my elixir—King—then I'll be fine. But hey, look at this. You managed to cast your spells without the sword. And a human doing magic. Good on you, kids.
Lincoln: Well we wouldn't have made it without a good teacher.
King: Oh you.
Hooty: Hey hey! Anyone there? Hello? Hoot? I'm on the ground. It's cold!
King: That voice. That horrific voice!
Luz: We'll take care of him. You stay in bed. (Picks up Snaggleback.) Come on, you goopy fella. We will free you now.
Snaggleback: Ow, ow, ow. I think my tail was digested.
The door closes. Eda sighs and lies back. She closes her eyes. The scene changes to a void, with only Eda and a door. Indistinct whispering can be heard.
Eda: No, not this memory again. The door opens. On the other side is a flickering shade, two circles of light near the top, back-lit by pure white light.
Eda: You! You're the one who cursed me, aren't you? Who are you? Who are you?
The scene goes back to Eda's room as she sits on her nest with a gasp. She looks around her and exhales.
Eda: (looks at the photo) At least thanks to this ritual, he will never suffer from this, as I had suffered.
Meanwhile in the living room, Luz tends to Hooty's wounds with bandages.
Luz: Welcome to the boo-boo buddy club, Hooty. Sorry Lincoln couldn't be here. His stomach wasn't agreeing with the elixir he drank.
Hooty: Finally, I get to be a part of something. And maybe I can bring Lincoln to be a part of something too!
The camera pans to the couch, where Snaggleback and King are sitting, the latter drawing.
Snaggleback: And then she had teeth in her stomach. Teeth in her stomach! Can you believe that?
King: Oh, yeah. (Shows his drawing.) This will make a great addition to my demon book.
Snaggleback: That book is filled with so many interesting things. (Grabs the book.) Like this. I'm one of the strongest demons on the Boiling Isles, huh?
King: Yeah, I'm gonna have to edit that.
Snaggleback: Oh.
Meanwhile in Lincoln's room, he keeps tossing and turning in his bed, as if trapped in his own nightmares. After consuming Eda's elixir, he could slowly feel an aching sensation spreading across his entire body. Fortunately for everyone in the Owl House, this process started slowly for him, but after freeing her from the curse, the pain only amplified, forcing him to bed.
Lincoln knew Luz was talking to King about the day they first met, but played ignorant during the current situation. But when she mentioned that burst that knocked her and those bullies out, it made him remember something. Despite all of the hatred given to him by his lesser sisters and adoptive father held some truth. It seemed whenever he was enduring extreme psychological stress. Something considered impossible would always happen, normally to the detriment to those who brought out said beast.
He could remember that day so clearly. Those bullies would keep calling him a freak and other similar slurs and insults at him until a young Luz would try to stop him. They didn't back down and started sharing those same offenses to her just for siding with Lincoln. Then the fists started flying on both sides and Luz and Lincoln were beaten down hard. Camilla mentioned that she nearly died from her injuries. But then something broke inside him and he couldn't contain it anymore. When he came back, he saw the area around him scorched.
Luz was untouched by a golden shield protecting her but the bullies weren't so lucky. The injuries that he overheard from her mother say that they will never be able to walk again, let alone feel again. He forced himself to forget that memory, but now that he is here in the Demon Realm, and his ancestral identity as an Azarathian revealed, that memory has begun to resurface along with similar ones. He could hear the others calling for him, and he turns his head to reveal a side of his face, and his exposed pupil turns into a bestial slit.
