Hello!
This is the fifth chapter of the story A glimpse of something new.
Enjoy!
Andy was sitting in the airport's café and she was drinking an iced coffee while texting with Theo. After her little discovery at the Social Help Centre, Andy made a plan. She decided to go to Scotland. But she wasn't able to arrange everything on her own, so she decided to update Theo of the past few weeks of her life. He hesitated at first but then he successfully helped her to sell her appartement and buy the plane ticket. He also helped her to gather as much information on the symbols in her dreams, and their relation to Scotland. They were able to find a lot of information about the wolf's meaning in slavic mythology. In connection with the moon, it represented some dark forces. But in general wolf was described as an animal connected to impulsive and unconscious forces, and it was mainly associated with greatness, self – confidance, bravery and strong instincts. Andy was also able to find a town in Scotland whose coat-of-arms contained a shape of wolf that was similar to the one in her dreams. Theo was now asking Andy if she is sure about going to Scotland for the millionth time. She quickly sent a reassuring text and said goodbye to him before going to the airport's passenger patrol. She waited in the line to show her passport. As she got closer to the person who was checking passports, she became more nervous. What if they won't let me through? It was definitely a possibility but Andy didn't want to think about it. The woman's voice brought her back to reality: "you're next m'am".
"Yes, sorry", Andy's voice was quieter than she would've want it to be. She showed the woman her passport. The woman took it and checked something in the database. The crease between the eyes got deeper and deeper, and Andy realized with a grim look that her whole mission might be ending sooner than she has thought. The woman called for someone and then to Andy's astonishment they escorted her to an office. The woman asked her a few questions about why she was going to Scotland — and Andy obviously lied to that question — and she asked her some standard questions about her past. While Andy was replying to her questions with half truths and some lies, that man was going through her luggage. He nodded to the woman who said reassuringly: It seems nothing is wrong, but please update your passport because it looks a bit odd at some points. One last question; "How come is it that you have the Scottish citizenship?"
Andy knew she will have to play a role really well to not draw any more suspicion and that she will risk a lot if she was really going to lie now. Andy took a breath and said: "I was born in Scotland and both of my parents originate from there. We moved to the USA when I was a child so I speak american accent very well." Her own accen surprised her. It was pure, clear, British. The woman escorted her out of the office and led her to the flight departure gate. Andy thanked her and walked through the gate, but all she could think about was that accent. Was that how she was supposed to be? Was that her real voice ? Andy wondered that all the way to her seat on the plane.
Robert was running in the park. Ever since he and Natasha broke up he had been exercising a lot, especially running. After a moment he realized he was nearby Andy's appartement. He slowed down and sat on the bench. He hadn't heard anything from her since she has been fired. He wanted to call her but he didn't know what to say. That's all right, Robert said to himself, I'll have more time to figure out what's going on. It still bothered him that Andy didn't fight for her job. That she had just given up. He remembered her saying to him that she is adopted. Robert felt bad for her knowing how important family was to her. Andy had lost too much in these few years. You should've fight for her, the voice in his head scolded him. But what he would have been able to do? Protect her from all this? No, that was out of his power. No, you dumbass. You should have been there for her when she needed you, the voice in his head was clearly displeased. But that was the catch with Andy — you never knew when she wanted you, needed you to be there for her. She had always put on a strong face and pretended that everything was all right. Don't tell me that you did everything that is in your power to get her to open up to you, this time the voice had a point. He never encouraged her to talk to him, ever since their engagement they hadn't had a real, deep conversation. And he was usually the one to turn down the opportunity of having that kind of conversation, but why? Was he so scared that at the first sight of trouble she would walk away? Get a divorce? She did all of that. But not because they had an argument, she did it because they didn't even talk anymore. Robert saw the mistakes both of them had made. You can still fix it, the voice in his head remained hopeful apparently. Robert realized he was hopeful too. He stood up and ran to Andy's appartement. He was so deep in his thoughts that he hadn't noticed the small differences in the appartement. An unknown man opened the door.
"May I help you?" he said surprised at the runner in front of him. "Isn't this the appartement of Andrea Herrera?" Robert said equally surprised.
"Oh, no it's not. At least not anymore. I moved in two days ago", the man said with less confusion in his voice. Robert didn't know that Andy had sold her place. It came right out of the blue and he didn't know how to react to it.
"Do you happen to know why the previous owner sold this appartement?"
"No, sorry. I wish I could help you but I haven't met her. I only met her friend who helped to sell her this place. I think his name is Tomo or Thao — wait, I remember it's Theo! His name is Theo," the man replied kindly. Robert thanked the man for his time and walked out of the building. What did Theo have to do with all of this? Well Robert is going to find that out, even if nobody wants him to do so.
Andy was sitting in her seat on the plane as the woman came to her and politely asked her to move so she could sit on the one next to Andy's. The woman introduced herself as Nadiya. She was flying to Scotland to visit one side of her family before going back home to Russia. Andy and Nadiya were talking for a while before Nadiya said she had to phone her brother. Andy turned around, so that Nadiya can have some 'privacy' while calling him. Andy didn't want to listen to the conversation and she was sure she won't understand anything due to the fact that Nadiya was Russian but when Nadiya started talking, Andy figured out to her amazement that she understood almost everything. This time it wasn't just a dream. She actually understood Russian language. It felt like a distant memory, more like a feeling than acutal knowledge, but Andy understood almost every word and that scared her. She took a bottle of sleeping pills from her bag. She started taking them a few weeks ago, so she could get a decent amount of sleep. But she always took them after she already had a nightmare each night, so she didn't know what to do now. She didn't want to risk the embarrassment she would get if she would wake up screaming from the nightmare. But after this she didn't really care. It was all too much and she was tired. She popped one of the pills and laid back. It was going to be a long flight. If she would be able to get any good sleep, that's just a bonus.
So that's it for this week's chapter.
I hope you liked it.
