On the other side of the door, Link saw the crazy monkey standing atop one of the several pillars in the center of the room. Suddenly a wooden gate dropped in front of the door. He gave a wry smile. 'Looks like I have to fight you, Mr. Boss Monkey.' The crazy monkey drew back the boomerang and released it, cutting down two of the snake-like plant monsters that hung from the ceiling, which immediately began ambling along towards Link. The crazy monkey gave another crazed laugh as it caught the boomerang, then began jumping between pillars.

A spin attack slew the two plant monsters, allowing Link to watch the crazy monkey as it jumped around the tops of the pillars. A couple times, he had to roll into a dodge as the crazy monkey threw the boomerang at him. However, that gave him an idea. When the crazy monkey stopped to throw the boomerang at him, he rolled up to and ended up hitting the pillar, startling the monkey enough that the boomerang struck it down from the pillar. He snuck in a few swings with his sword, then jumped back as the crazy monkey jumped back onto a pillar. He grinned. 'So that's your weakness, is it?'

It only took two more rounds before the crazy monkey yelped in pain and ran directly into the center pillar, falling down. Something fell from the monkey's face, which Link immediately recognized as one of the insects that had been sent to steal the light of the light spirits. The insect curled up and died just as they did when Link had killed them in the twilight, and he turned to look at the monkey boss.

The monkey boss stood up, dazed, then shook its head. Suddenly it turned around, saw Link, and ran away screeching. Link stared up at the hole the monkey boss fled through. 'Well, I guess that confirms that the shadow insect was making it crazy.' Then he turned to his right and noticed the boomerang that the monkey had been wielding. Out of curiosity, he walked over to it, only for it to start floating on a small twirling billow of wind that almost seemed to be coming from the boomerang. A voice echoed in Link's ears.

"I am the Fairy of Winds who resides in this boomerang. You have freed me from evil, and I now have my true power back. Please… Take it with you, use it to aid your quest, and may both my power and my blessing go with you. If you focus power in the boomerang before releasing it, it will unleash the power of wind, aiding you in unforeseen ways." With that, the boomerang swung in an arc through the room, kicking up piles of leaves, before flying towards Link, who hastily held out a hand to catch it. Midna appeared from Link's shadow a moment later.

"I bet even the monkeys should be satisfied now. OK, let's continue combing this place. We already found something good, so let's keep searching places we haven't looked yet." Link nodded, and Midna disappeared back into his shadow.

Before trying to leave the room, Link decided some practice with the boomerang would be a good idea. He sent it flying around the room, and soon he found Rupees nestled under the leaves. Once he was satisfied with his practice, he turned to look at the door. The gate was still covering the door, but now he saw a mechanism similar to those of the spinning bridges. 'I wonder…' He sent the boomerang at the mechanism once, and the gate lifted just a little bit off of the ground. Two more times, and the gate was fully lifted, allowing Link to return outside.

To his left, he used the boomerang to change the orientation of one of the bridges, allowing him to cross. There, he saw another monkey in a cage, held up by a spider web thread and guarded by a patrolling purple monster. Link easily slew the purple monster, although much to his chagrin the thread holding up the cage was too thick for the slingshot to break. He stared up at it for a moment, before remembering that the boomerang had cut through the stems of the snake-like plant monsters and through the ropes of the broken bridge - perhaps it would also cut through the thick spider web thread. He grinned as the monkey was released, though unlike its brethren it didn't clap and cheer for Link, instead immediately jumping away to somewhere else in the temple. Midna appeared again from Link's shadow.

"Well, I guess there are still some monkeys you haven't freed yet!" Link nodded. 'That certainly seems to be the case.'

"At this point, you should just save them all and see what you can get for it!" Link shrugged, and Midna disappeared back into his shadow, allowing him to continue across the remaining spinning bridges.

Back in the room with the central platform, he was surprised to see that two of the monkeys had returned to help him across the gaps. 'That's nice of the both of you, though I won't be needing these rooms again.'

With the boomerang, he knocked down the chest from its spider web thread. Inside the chest, he was surprised to find what at first looked like a duplicate map. Then he realized that this map had more details on it - the locations of chests, as well as a strange marking in the northernmost room of the temple. To his surprise, there was another chest in the room with him, and several other chests that he'd apparently missed.

Purely out of curiosity, while trying to find the mysterious hidden chest, Link ended up sending the boomerang at one of the torches. To his surprise, all three of the platforms that made up the staircase lowered into the ground. Looking down at the area, he noticed a rock that seemed fragile enough that he might be able to blow it up. There, to the left of the rock, was another of the explosive bugs. He smirked. 'What a convenient place for these bugs to make their home!' It was then that an idea came to his mind. 'Could I use the boomerang to bring the bug to the rock, so I can blow up the rock from here?' It was an enticing idea, and Link eagerly gave it a try. To his delight, it worked, revealing a small chest that had been hidden behind the rocks. 'Interesting that the chest didn't blow up…' He shrugged and jumped down to see what was in the chest.

His eyes widened as he saw the red Rupee, haphazardly thrown into the chest. 'Twenty Rupees.. Who would leave this kind of money just lying around?!' He eagerly slid the Rupee into his wallet before climbing back onto the center platform. Then, with the help of the monkey, he leapt across to the leftmost path through the dungeon, where he remembered one of the spinning bridges was stuck in a room. In the room with the lake, he noticed once more the large chest locked behind a gate. There were more pillars with the rounded blades that Link knew had to do with the boomerang. He sent the boomerang after the four pillars, but the gate did not open. Faintly, he could hear Midna giggling as she came up from his shadow.

"A door that opens with a windmill… What are they trying to hide with this sophisticated contraption…" Her one was mocking, enough so that Link found himself sticking his tongue out at Midna. She smirked.

"You think you can open something like this just by turning those?" Midna disappeared back into Link's shadow. 'I'm sure gonna try!'

Looking down at the floor, he noticed a peculiar pattern between the pillars - or, as Midna had called them, windmills. He tilted his head. 'It almost looks like a path between them…' He sent the boomerang at the windmills once more, being careful to follow the path. To his delight, the gate in front of the chest rolled open, allowing him to finally have a good look at the chest.

It was a dark black chest, the corners of its lids curling up almost like horns. In the center was a large ruby. As he stepped closer, he realized that the edges of the lid were actually a pale red rather than black like the rest of the chest. 'Midna did have a point, though… what is being kept in here?' He lifted the lid of the chest, being careful not to move it so quickly that he hurt himself. Inside was a large black key, with a ruby at the top held tightly in place by four metallic spikes. 'This certainly is an interesting key… I wonder what it unlocks?' He slid it into one of his pouches before looking down at the map with the treasure chests marked.

To his surprise, there was another chest in the room, very near the chest he'd just opened, though he couldn't see it around him. He put the map back in the pouch it had come from, and looked down at the water. 'Maybe there's something back there…?' Just to be sure, he jumped into the water and looked back, only to be surprised when he saw a small cave that led up to a treasure chest with a torch behind it. Inside the chest was a simple yellow Rupee, though Link was more proud of himself for figuring out where the hidden chest was. He grinned as he waded through the water, careful to avoid the spider that was still stuck in the lake. He found a way back onto the platforms, glad that the spider hadn't found it yet, and then leapt across the other platforms to continue forward.

To his surprise, on the other side of the lone spinning bridge was a monkey, jumping and clapping as if to get his attention. It beckoned him to go through the door, though once on the other side the monkey instead opted to follow him. With the boomerang, he rotated the bridge, then pulled out the map to consult it once more. To the left there was a solitary room that apparently had a chest in it, as well as a seemingly empty room beyond it. To the right there was another seemingly empty room. Up ahead, there was a large room, with two rooms splitting off from it - one that had the odd marking in the center, and one that had a chest at the very back. 'I'll go to the room to the right first, I guess, and then the left, and then to those last three rooms.'

He stepped onto the bridge, and though the monkey was beckoning him to continue forward he used the boomerang to rotate the bridge again. Suddenly two purple monsters, one from either side, ran onto the bridge and began lunging at him. Two spin slices and two finishing blows later, and they both fell dead, though unfortunately neither had any Rupees on them.

In the room to the right, Link barely had the time to get his bearings before not one but two of the large spiders dropped down and began crawling after him. He, in a panic, began jumping and rolling back, until one of the spiders had him cornered. Once more, he would be forced to fight them. With no time to collect himself, he drew his sword and attacked the spiders with all he could. Slice after slash connected with the spiders' bodies, until finally they were both dead and Link was panting and shaking where he stood. 'I… I did it…' He sheathed his sword, and only then did he hear the sounds of a panicked monkey screeching. Looking around the room, however, he didn't see any monkeys, only some jars held in the air by more spider web threads, as well as some holes in the floor - including one with vines. 'Maybe it's below me?'

Much to his chagrin, there was only one Rupee in all of the jars, a blue Rupee that was soon added into his wallet. As he walked around the room, he noticed that some of the holes had spider webs stretched across them. 'I'll just burn them, there can't be any harm in it.' Once the holes were cleared, he suddenly realized he could hear scuttling noises below him alongside the monkey's screeching. He exhaled. '... There's more spiders down there, aren't there.' He climbed down the vines, and sure enough a third large spider crawled after him. This spider was eventually also slain with a finishing blow, and Link allowed himself a grin. 'I'm.. I'm getting the hang of this.' Then he noticed one of the chewing flowers, as well as one of the explosive bugs, and the explosive flower was soon dealt with as well. This time however, the flower did not have a key inside its gut. Rather, it had another red Rupee, which Link eagerly took. After he was sure that all monsters were slain, he noticed a large stump in the room, on which the monkey was trapped. He took note of the hole in the ceiling that was above the monkey, and climbed back up the vines.

Just a couple moments later, the monkey was released, and jumped up the vines. Link chuckled. 'I may not be a hero to Hyrule just yet.. But it sure seems I'm becoming a hero to monkeys.' He climbed up the vines and back to the room with the spinning bridge, only to frown when he saw that the other room was also locked. 'I'll just have to find another key, then.' He spun the bridge around again and walked up to the northern door, not before breaking the pots to find a blue and a green Rupee.

In the new room, there was another large gap, as well as multiple mushroom platforms on which some of the monkeys were jumping. Two mushrooms were left empty. Midna appeared from Link's shadow again.

"I guess in order for us to check the temple out completely, we need the help of the monkeys. Ah well… Let's help the rest of them!" Link nodded, and Midna again withdrew into Link's shadow.

To his right, there were a series of bridges, vines, and wooden platforms. A quick look at the map confirmed that there was another room in that direction, as well as another chest. 'Maybe there'll be another monkey back that way?' He made his way across, picking off some of the small spiders from a safe distance with the boomerang, and then noticing a purple monster patrolling by the bottom of the vines. The monster was no obstacle for Link, however, who soon was climbing along the vines and up to the platform. On the platform he found more Rupees, as well as another purple monster. Once the Rupees were collected and the monster slain, he continued into the next room.

The room he was now in also had a lake, as well as a platform in the back with another of the explosive bugs. To his right was another chewing flower, and up ahead was a ramp leading to another platform, and then a wall of vines below a large rock that led to a small room in the back. Two of the snake-like plants were slain. Blowing up another chewing flower cleared the path to another chest, which held another key. Another bug was sent to blow up the rock. It almost became routine.

The upper room had two of the snake-plants dangling from the ceiling, and a purple monster. He sighed. 'If I'm going to keep fighting these things.. I may as well at least have fun with it.' He began experimenting with combining sword techniques together, and after one combination he was particularly proud of, he suddenly had the idea to sheath his sword in a different and more interesting way than simply sliding it into the scabbard. He pictured the motion in his mind, grinning at how it looked: a couple slashes to either side, a spin of the sword, and then the sword neatly sheathed.

The two slashes to either side were simple enough, but when it came to spinning the sword he ran into some difficulty. He ended up dropping the sword, much to his embarrassment, and he could almost swear he heard Midna giggle from his shadow. The feeling of pride and elation gone, he opted to pick up his sword and sheath it like normal. 'I'm gonna try doing that again though.'

From behind another rock, he could hear a monkey screeching. It was nothing that a boomerang and an explosive bug couldn't take care of, and soon that monkey was also freed. The pots behind where the monkey had been held a yellow Rupee, and Link turned to see about unlocking the door back by the spinning bridge.

The new room that Link unlocked had some wooden platforms, as well as more of the tile monsters. To his delight, the boomerang forced them out of their hiding, allowing him to easily slay them. Before trying anything else, he found a path in the back of the room, where he eventually found another of the large spiders. He grinned when he realized that the boomerang stunned the spider, allowing him to slash and slice at it, finishing off with the finishing blow. Again he tried the fancy sheathing maneuver, and again he was embarrassed when he dropped his sword. 'Maybe I should ask that ghost soldier guy to help me learn how to do that?' The sound of a monkey screeching above him snapped him out of his thoughts, and he noticed some vines in front of him which he quickly climbed up.

The monkey was trapped behind a gate much like the one that held the large key, though only with two windmills this time. Before too long, the last monkey was released, and Link found another blue Rupee in the pots. He was startled as he looked into his wallet - he had over 200 Rupees now! 'This almost makes up for all the Rupees Fado kept forgetting to pay me.' He chuckled to himself.

Leaping across the wooden platforms in the main section of the room, Link found another red Rupee in the last chest the temple map showed in the northern section. While he would have liked to find the other chests.. He knew Midna was in a hurry to get whatever it was she wanted from this dungeon, and he didn't want her complaining at him for taking too long.

When he returned to the room with all the monkeys, he watched as they made their way up a tree branch and then began holding onto each other, forming a makeshift rope. Link chuckled. 'That's pretty clever. Let's hope I don't miss that jump.' He grinned to himself as he easily landed on the other side.

The door on the other side was locked with a heavy chain, and an even heavier lock. 'This must be what that big key unlocks. But what's behind this door?' He paused. 'Faron said the dark power was locked away in this temple. Maybe that's what's back there?' Noticing the clay pots, he opened them as well, though unfortunately he didn't find any Rupees. He did, however, find a strange creature that almost looked like a bug, though its pink glow made him think it wasn't really a bug. He caught it in the newly empty bottle, staring curiously at it through the glass. Midna appeared from his shadow, giggling.

"Well, isn't that interesting! Looks like you've caught yourself a fairy!" Link tilted his head to one side, raising an eyebrow.

"A.. fairy?" His voice was still quiet, and slightly hoarse from underuse. Midna's visible eye widened.

"So you did say something before." Link nodded. Midna stared at him, as if waiting for him to respond, but Link had nothing to say.

"And here I thought Mr. Important Hero just didn't talk at all!" Her tone was equal parts playful and curious. Link shrugged.

"I don't always have anything to say." It was Midna's turn to tilt her head at Link.

"What about the people in your village? Isn't it hard to… you know, talk with them?" Link shrugged again. Midna fell silent, seeming to be waiting again for Link to respond. When he didn't, she shook her head.

"Anyway! Fairies are really rare, so you'll want to hold onto that one!" Link only tilted his head at her. "Legend says that if you capture one, and you fall in combat, a fairy can revive you." Link's eyes widened, and Midna nodded.

"So yeah, hold onto that." She smirked. "You can't help me if you're dead, after all!" With that she disappeared back into Link's shadow. Shrugging to himself, he slid the bottle that now held the fairy into one of his pouches, before turning to face the door once more.

The chains were made of thick pieces of old metal, and the lock was much more elaborate than the ones he'd seen before. It had four spikes, and ridges of some kind of pattern along the outside. In the center, with the keyhole, was a dark black ball. 'This is.. pretty ominous. Faron really wanted that dark power sealed away.' He had to strain to reach the lock, it was so high above his head. The chains fell away with a loud clang, and the door was incredibly heavy. He grunted as he slowly pushed it to the side, opening the passage to the final room in the temple.

As he exited the passageway, not one but two doors slid closed behind him. In front of him was a room with purple liquid flowing down from multiple places and into a pond of more purple liquid, as well as a large twisted root in front of him. There were two holes in the walls on either side, with ornate wooden platforms and decorations surrounding them. Then he noticed the explosive bugs. 'Hm.. Looks like I should expect a fight of some kind.' He readied his sword in anticipation.

Suddenly, in the back of the pond, bubbles began forming. Link adopted his fighting stance as the bubbling became more and more intense, until suddenly two large plant mouths sprang up from the purple liquid. The mouths snapped open and shut, drool or purple liquid or both spilling from them.

Occasionally the mouths lunged forward to snap at him, and he leapt out of the way. However, he was never able to land a blow on them with his sword. Midna giggled and appeared from his shadow as he ducked to a place out of the plants' reach.

"Those things look like idiots with their mouths open like that… Put something in those things' mouths to shut them up!" Link blinked and grinned. 'Why didn't I think of that?' After some trial and error, one of the mouths wound up with an explosive bug inside it. The bug exploded, and the mouth slowly sunk below the purple liquid. 'One down, one to go.' The second mouth swallowed an explosive bug, and also sunk beneath the liquid. For a few moments all was still, until an even more intense bubbling started in the pond.

Suddenly a large plant-like monster erupted from the liquid, and the two plant mouths came with it. The explosive bugs disappeared beneath the liquid, and Link was left to dodge the plant mouths' lunges. 'What do I do now?!'

Just as the thought finished in his mind, he heard a monkey chattering. Not just any monkey - the boss monkey he'd fought earlier. Glancing up at the left hole in the wall, the boss monkey swung down to the other hole, where it began clapping before showing Link the explosive bug it had found. Link grinned. 'That'll do.' To his surprise, rather than throwing the bug at him, the boss monkey began swinging back and forth with the explosive bug held between its feet. The grin didn't leave Link's face. 'Looks like this will be a real challenge now!'

One by one, the smaller plant mouths swallowed explosive bugs once again, until only one remained. When he successfully got an explosive bug into the final mouth, it writhed in the air before falling to the ground, exposing an orb at the end of its tongue that almost looked like an eye. Link charged at the eye, slashing it with his sword, until the mouth reared back up and the other mouths came back. 'Good, I was worried this was going to be easy!' Suddenly the central mouth began spewing dark purple liquid at Link, and he hastily jumped to dodge it. 'Guess the bugs didn't agree with its stomach.'

After another round of feeding the mouths explosive bugs, Link landed a finishing blow on the central mouth's eye, and the monster began thrashing itself into the purple liquid while screaming in pain. As it writhed towards the sky, its body suddenly began drying and cracking, the eye falling from the dead monster's tongue. The eye swelled and then shriveled, revealing another heart-shaped gem. Then, all at once, the dead monster's body exploded into hundreds of tiny black particles that floated around the room before collecting into a piece of stone that emanated a dark aura. Link stared at it as it floated down in front of him, noticing that the purple liquid had turned into clear water. Midna appeared from Link's shadow, giggling.

"Well done! That's…" She hesitated. "What I was looking for." Her hair-hand grabbed it. "That's a Fused Shadow. It's what the light spirit called dark power… Do you remember what that spirit said? About how you had to match the power of the king of shadows?" Link nodded.

"Could it really be so easy? Is this all there is to it?" She laughed again. "There's a total of three Fused Shadows. I think the other light spirits have the rest… If you want to know exactly what Fused Shadows are… Well, maybe I'll tell you if you find the other two." She grinned. "I guess you'd better do your best to find them, huh?" She laughed a third time. Her hair-hand disappeared into her helmet, and she turned to one side.

"So let's not waste any more time here when we could be looking for the other two…" She floated some distance away, and cast some kind of spell that put a black and teal shape on the floor with a blue vortex spinning up and out of it.

"I'll get you out of here… You pick up the Heart Container that fell out of that thing." Link blinked. 'Is that what it's called? A Heart Container?" Midna said nothing more, only floating closer to the vortex. Link walked over to the thing Midna had called a Heart Container, and studied it. It was similar to the gems he'd found before, but instead of the gem being teal with a small red gem in the center, the entire gem was red. He reached out to touch it, and as with the other heart-shaped gems it disappeared as soon as he had. However, he realized that all the injuries he'd gotten healed in an instant, and he felt.. stronger, somehow. He took in a deep breath, for a moment just enjoying how the pond looked when it wasn't filled with sickly purple liquid. Then he turned to Midna and her vortex and stepped closer.

"Want to go outside? Are you all done here?" Link nodded, and Midna disappeared into the vortex. Like when she had brought him away from Hyrule Castle, he felt the tingling from the top of his head that slowly spread down to the rest of his body, and soon after the weightlessness and peaceful darkness came as well. Once more, Link was floating along an unseen breeze, and once more time had ceased to exist.
