The next thing Link knew, he was laying on a hard rocky floor. The air was no longer suffocatingly hot - in fact, he realized he was shivering. His eyes didn't want to open, and he didn't particularly want to force them open. Instead, he allowed himself to just lay there in silence.
"Is he going to be... okay?" A woman's voice, worried, somewhere to his side.
"It's possible. However, he's going to need to rest a while first." A deep man's voice, somewhere else, not as close as the woman's voice. "He's lucky you brought us to him when you did. Any longer and..." The man's voice trailed off into silence.
"... He's shivering." Link hadn't realized the voices were talking about him.
"Yes, he was probably burned rather badly just by being near the lava." Lava. Was that what the fiery water was called? "He'll need time to recover, miss Midna." Link was too tired to be surprised, almost too tired to wonder if Midna had done something to bring him to wherever he was.
Suddenly, there was a burning sensation again on his hand. Combined with the burns being near the lava had given him, it was enough to make Link writhe in pain, prompting a worried gasp from Midna.
"What's happening to him?!" Heavy footsteps walked closer to Link.
"Hm... I'm not sure. Something has agitated him." A rough and calloused hand picked up Link's arm. "What's this? There's a mark glowing from his hand." A gasp from Midna.
"Is that... the Triforce?" Link hadn't heard that word before.
"It appears to be." The male voice was quiet for a time. His hand was gently put back down on the ground. "So this young warrior has been chosen by the gods."
Link's skin was itching and burning and freezing and painful. For what felt like hours, he squirmed and writhed on the hard rocky floor, sweating and shivering. Then, all at once, it was over. The shivering was gone, slowly the sweating stopped, and his skin settled. The burning on his hand was gone. He slowly opened his eyes.
He was in the chamber where the elder had challenged him to a sumo match. Midna and Gor Coron stared down at him, worried expressions on their faces. As soon as Midna saw his eyes open, she gasped.
"He's awake!" Gor Coron nodded, though his expression did not share Midna's relief.
"I imagine the Triforce had something to do with this." Midna didn't seem to hear him, instead focusing on Link with a mixture of relief and worry and anger. Link tried to open his mouth to speak, but found that his throat and mouth were unbearably dry and unwilling to move.
"Young warrior, do not overexert yourself. You are lucky to be alive." Gor Coron turned to look at Midna. "It would be unwise for him to go into the mines again before he has fully recovered. Even if the damage has been healed by the Triforce, going back in will just undo that healing."
"But he has to go in there! There's something I need in there, and he has to help me get it!" The Goron elder's frown grew deeper.
"You speak of the Fused Shadow." Midna nodded.
"The spirits told us it is a cursed relic, not to be held by mortal hands. With how it cursed Darbus, I am inclined to agree." Link tried again to speak, and again his mouth and throat would not cooperate.
"It's the only way to stop Zant. Without them, I don't have a chance of defeating him." Gor Coron's eyes widened.
"You intend to fight the king of the twilight?" At last Link was able to speak.
"The light spirits... told me... to get it." His voice was hoarse and weak. Gor Coron's eyes widened as he looked down at Link.
"So he has to help me get them, because I can't do it on my own like this." Midna gestured at herself and her shadowy form.
"I see. If that is the case, he will need something to protect him from being burned by the lava." Gor Coron turned away from Link, looking somewhere else in the room. "Go and find the earrings." Midna scoffed as heavy footsteps left the room.
"What's some jewelry going to do to protect him?" Gor Coron turned to look at Midna.
"They are not mere jewelry. They are ancient artifacts, passed down among the Gorons since before the time of Hyrule. If our records are correct, they will keep the young warrior safe as he journeys through the mines." Gor Coron looked down at Link, then handed him a bottle with water in it.
"Young warrior, you will want to drink this. Even if the Triforce has healed you, you are still dehydrated." Link slowly pushed himself into a sitting position, doing what he could to ignore the room spinning around him. Then he uncorked the bottle and drank the water that was gone in moments. He looked up at Gor Coron.
"What... is the Triforce?" Gor Coron's eyes widened again.
"You bear the mark, and yet you don't know what it is?" Link tilted his head to one side. Shaking his head would only make the spinning of the room worsen.
"Do you mean that weird mark with triangles?" Gor Coron nodded, and Link shrugged. "It's been on my hand since I was a kid. My parents just said it was a birthmark." Gor Coron stared at him for a moment, before sighing and closing his eyes.
"The Triforce is said to have been created long ago, by the gods. It is said that with the power of the Triforce, you can make any wish and the Triforce can grant it. Of course, with that kind of power, warring was inevitable. Even a mere hundred years ago, a war broke out over the Triforce. It's said that there was a villain who wished to steal its power, who was stopped by a young boy and by the young princess. It isn't known what became of the young boy, though some came to call him a hero for thwarting that ancient villain." Gor Coron opened his eyes. "It is curious to see it upon your hand, young warrior. Even more curious to know you have had it since birth." Gor Coron's expression became thoughtful.
"Come to think of it... Miss Midna, did you also notice something peculiar about the mark on his hand?"
"Aside from it being there in the first place?"
"Yes. It wasn't the full Triforce. Only one of the triangles was fully glowing."
Just then, heavy footsteps walked into the room. Another Goron walked over to Gor Coron, handing him a small object.
"Thank you, Brother." The Goron elder turned to Link. "Here, put these earrings on. They should protect you in the mines." He handed Link a small pair of earrings. They were old and worn, though Link could tell they were once a bright and vibrant red. He reached up and unclipped the earrings he'd had since he was young, gently placing them in a pouch. Then he carefully clipped the new earrings to his ears. The metal was warm against his ears. He sat still for some more moments.
Gor Coron handed Link another bottle filled with water, which he eagerly took and drank from. The spinning of the room slowly came to a stop, until finally the dizziness was gone. He slowly went to stand, but Gor Coron gently pressed a hand to his shoulder.
"Are you sure that you are ready to get up?" Link nodded, and the elder's hand withdrew, allowing him to stand. His back was sore and stiff, something that thankfully was eased with some stretching. He looked, almost absentmindedly, at the hand that had the marking - the Triforce. Out of curiosity, he took the glove off to look at the marking. Like always, it was a tan set of triangles against his skin. With a fingertip, he gently traced along the edge of the marking. Then he put the glove back on.
Gor Coron handed Link a large canteen that had a leather strap on it. From the heaviness, Link could tell that it was full of water. He carefully slid the strap so that it rested on his left shoulder, the canteen sitting at his side. The Goron elder nodded.
"Do not forget to keep that canteen filled. The elders have been told to expect you, and they will allow you to refill the canteen." Link nodded, thanking Gor Coron. Midna reluctantly disappeared into Link's shadow as he walked down the path to the mines.
The lava cast a bright yellow glow on almost everything in the room. Link allowed himself a relieved sigh as the Goron elder's word held true - the earrings, by some magic, prevented the heat of the lava from overwhelming him. He could still feel an intense warmth, but nothing like the engulfing scorching heat that saw him collapse.
It was an unnerving feeling, standing where he had however much time ago when he fell unconscious. At his feet were metal plates almost embedded in the ground, and in front of him was the stone platform rising out of the lava. He took a breath and jumped down onto the platform, grateful when it was mercifully sturdy. Another jump onto another platform, wincing as lava rose up from the bottom pool nearby where Link stood. This platform continued almost to the back, almost to the solid ground, before Link had to jump across again.
Metal fencing and grating stood in front of him, sectioning the room off from the rest of the mines. There was a path covered by more metal grating, blocked off by wooden beams. Through the metal fence, Link could see more lava. Absentmindedly touching one of the earrings, he continued into the path before slashing the wooden beams apart. He found himself in what almost seemed like a metal cage suspended over the lava, with more wooden beams blocking a fumarole that spat out fiery air. A small metal plate sat on the floor nearby the wooden beams. Curiously, Link stepped onto it, surprised when the plate ever so slightly dropped under his weight. Before the thought could finish in his head, the iron boots were on his feet, and the fumarole stopped spitting out flames as the iron boots disappeared again. As he ran over, a clicking sound could be heard, until he passed the fumarole and looked back to realize it was spraying fire once more.
Following the path brought him to another of the plates, though he couldn't see the fumarole it likely connected to. Once again the iron boots appeared to help him weigh down the plates, and a clicking noise began, although it was slower this time. He ran down the path, leaping onto a metal platform as he passed a metal pipe that opened next to the end of the path. 'That must not have been a fumarole back there... it was a pipe.' He frowned. 'But why would the Gorons have a pipe that sprays out fire, and it only stops when you step on those plates?' He resolved to ask Gor Coron when he had the chance.
A metal ladder to his left led to a platform above the thick pipe, though he couldn't see any reason to climb up onto it. Instead, he walked along the metal path that wound past where he had just been, jumping up onto another one that also led to a ladder. The ladder led to the top of the metal cage, above where he had been just moments ago. A quick jump across a gap would bring him to a part of the cage with some ceramic pots, a wooden chest, and a strange fiery slug-like creature that was the size of a cat.
He stared at the slug for some moments, watching as it slowly slid around on the metal grating. Flames flickered on its body, but it didn't particularly seem hostile. He stepped closer, watching the slug for any movement. It slowly turned towards him, which unnerved him, but he waited. There was no sense in attacking something that hadn't attacked him. The fire slug ambled closer, before turning and gliding to somewhere else on the grating. 'So far so good.' He jumped across the gap, landing a distance away from the slug.
This time the slug turned towards him and more quickly began moving towards him. He frowned, sword at the ready. The slug jumped up at him, but Link was faster - a slice of the sword and the slug fell dead at Link's feet. He sighed. 'So these things are hostile after all.' The area was clear now, so he went to the wooden chest. It had a red Rupee, which Link held for a moment. Midna's words in the village tower immediately rang in his ears. He frowned. 'The mines are only abandoned until I retrieve the Fused Shadow. Once Darbus is free of its curse, the mines will be active again.' Wordlessly, he placed the Rupee back in the chest and closed it. He could hear a faint exasperated sigh from his shadow.
"You really are back to normal, aren't you." He huffed.
"This place is only abandoned because of what the Fused Shadow did to Darbus. Once that's dealt with, they'll be using this again." He stood. "That Rupee belongs to someone. Someone who I'm fairly certain is still alive." His shadow was uncharacteristically quiet. He waited a few moments, allowing her time to respond, before shrugging and continuing along the grating.
He found himself on stone ledges on the other side of the room. In one direction was another of the metal plates that he could step on to make something happen, though the fire and haze made it difficult to see what was in the other direction. He stepped onto the metal plate, the iron boots appearing on his feet as he did. Like with the others, a clicking sound began, starting slow but gradually getting faster. He ran along the stone ledge, careful to stay close to the wall to avoid falling into the lava below.
Suddenly a flaming lump dropped in front of him. One of the slugs. A ball of fire exploded out of the slug, sending Link crashing into the wall as flames licked his tunic. Dazed, he stood up and slashed at the slug with his sword, killing it in one blow. To his relief, the earrings' protection evidently also went to his tunic, as the flames slowly faded away without leaving even the slightest trace of ash. He huffed. 'I'll have to be more careful, if those things can just drop from the ceiling like that.'
The clicking stopped, and flames appeared in front of him, from within another metal cage. He sighed. 'And now I have to start all over again.' Back along the stone ledges, back onto the plate, then across the ledges again. This time he was able to walk past a pipe that pointed directly out of the cage, ducking around a corner as the clicking stopped and fire again leapt from the pipe's mouth. The only way forward was through the cage, and so he continued until he reached a ledge that overlooked solid ground with a gate in the wall. Another of the slugs wormed its way across the ground, not yet seeing Link.
As soon as he jumped down, however, two slugs dropped in front of him. This time his sword was faster, and three dead slugs lay on the ground. He turned to look at the gate. It was made of thick metal bars, with what looked like a heavy lock in the center. 'There weren't any keys... so there has to be another way to get in.' He looked near the top of the gate. Next to the ledge he had jumped down from was what looked like a metal bar, jutting out from the wall. 'It doesn't look like it's attached to the wall... does moving it do something?'
A convenient box allowed him back up to the ledge, and a short jump brought him onto the metal bar. Like with the metal plates everywhere else in the room, it rattled slightly. Suddenly the iron boots were on his feet, and after some more rattling the bar lowered to the ground, and the gate slowly slid open to reveal a surprisingly wooden doorway. Like the doors of the forest temple, this door also had a symbol on it. This symbol, however, resembled a pointed paw with three triangular claws stretching out from it. He blinked. 'Isn't this one of the markings I've seen on the Gorons?'
He put his hand on the door. It was newer than the doors of the forest temple, though not without its fair share of dust. 'Whatever happened to Darbus, it wasn't all that recent. Maybe a month or two.' With a grunt, he pushed the door open as dust and debris fell from the frame. On the other side, he found himself in a large room of metal stairs and walkways hanging above a large pool of lava. Directly in front of him, a large metal structure of some kind held up a large circular piece of metal with an odd blue gem-like material embedded in it.
Down and to his left were monsters, the same kind of monsters that had kidnapped the children and tried to kidnap Colin. His hand tightened around the hilt of his sword as he walked. The monsters patrolled around a large metal chest, flanked by torches on either side. It didn't take them long to notice Link and start running towards him with clubs brandished. It also didn't take long before Link's sword was slicing cleanly through them. Inside the chest was a key. Link raised his eyebrow, but shrugged as he put it in his pocket and walked back up to where he had been.
Up a walkway and to the right of where he'd come in, he found himself standing in front of a pair of metal platforms that spun and stopped to create a path. As he watched, they spun again and created a path once more. 'So when they stop, I can jump across. Gotta be fast though.' Just to be safe, he waited on the metal grating platform between the spinning platforms, and sure enough it spun as soon as he got close. On the other side the path led to another door, this one chained up.
Through the door, Link found himself standing in front of a stone pathway with a metal railing. A green haze filled the air, though thankfully he was still able to see. To his right, the path led down and to the other side of the room. In front of him was a structure of some kind, which the path led to. As he walked, lava spouted up into the air, though thankfully not anywhere near him. When he neared the end of the path, he noticed a large lizard-like creature ambling across the ground, something he was grateful hadn't noticed him yet.
The sound of his feet hitting the ground from the jump must have alerted the lizard creature, from how quickly it turned to look at Link. He heard it take in a deep breath, and then flames came roaring out of its mouth at him. 'Good thing I bought this shield... The one from back home would've burned to ash in seconds.' When the lizard's flames died down, Link sidestepped and slashed at the lizard's tail. The creature hissed in pain, whirling around to face Link with malice in its eyes. It lunged at him, its sharp teeth gleaming in the light from the lava. Link leapt back, the shield in front of him, as the lizard's jaws closed on the air where he had just been. The lizard angrily growled and scurried over towards Link, who only just managed to jump to the side in time to avoid its wicked fangs that gnashed at the air. Another sword swing saw the creature shriek in pain and fury, charging at Link with flames gushing from its maw. Link ducked behind the shield, slashing at the lizard's head when the flames faded, but his sword uselessly clanged against the thick hide of the lizard's neck. He gritted his teeth and leapt back again before the lizard could respond in kind, flames flickering after him. The flames ebbed one last time, and Link took this opportunity to sneak in a stab right into the creature's neck. It screeched as it died, until finally falling dead.
Link panted, looking down at the lifeless body of the lizard. Most of the scales on top of its body were a dark gray, and looked hard as rock. But its mouth, tail, and the underside of its body were not so armored, as evidenced by the large gash in its throat. He closed his eyes for a moment. 'There's almost certainly more of these things deeper in the mines. It's good to know where to attack them.' He opened his eyes, scanning the area around him. A stone brick wall with metal grating stood in front of him. He could tell there was a path on the other side of the wall, but there was no opening on the side he faced. Turning, he noticed several rock platforms jutting out from the lava, and grimaced. 'I'll have to jump across those, won't I.' Lava spewed up into the air in multiple places, and Link sighed. 'Let's get this over with.'
The rock platforms were lined with metal sheets, outlining a path into the room with the bricks and the metal grating. Another of the fire-spouting lizards crawled along a circular platform, thankfully not noticing Link. He looked into the room, startled to see that there wasn't even a door, but a solid wall. He wasn't allowed much time to ponder this, however, as the lizard creature just then noticed him with a hiss. With a quick jump he was on the next platform, and then the next, and then he was on the other side of the wall. A third lizard creature ran at him, and Link was again dodging fire and fang before managing to slay the lizard. He sighed, looking at his surroundings.
Like with the other side, the wall extended out to the end of the floor. However, this side had a thick metal chain sitting limply on the floor, laying in a stone groove cut into the rocky ground. Curious, he picked it up. The chain was connected to a section of wall. He blinked as he realized that the wall connected to the chain wasn't connected to the rest of the wall. 'Maybe if I pull this out of the way, I can get into that space in between these walls?' He tentatively pulled at the chain, grunting at the weight of the wall. With each pull, he slowly dragged it back, until the edge of the wall was nestled against the end of the groove. He dropped the chain, only to grimace as the wall began sliding back into place. He hurriedly sprinted back across the platforms, noticing with dread that the wall had thick stone spikes at the end. With only a mere few seconds to spare, he slipped between the shrinking opening, the wall slamming shut behind him. He let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding, looking around. 'Nowhere else to go now but forward.' In front of him was another wooden door with the same marking.
Through the door, he found himself in an odd room. A sheet of metal on the ground led to a short platform jutting out over water rather than lava. A tall metal grating sat in the water, and past the grating on the wall was a door with more of the odd blue crystal leading up to it, curling up from the wall. He stared for a moment at the door, uncertain of how to continue. Then he looked down into the water. There was a gap in the grating, easily large enough for him to swim through. He sighed. 'Let's hope I can hold my breath for long enough.' He began taking deeper and deeper breaths, until finally taking in a large gasp of air and holding onto it as he jumped and dove into the water. While it wasn't as cool as he would like, it was at least a little reprieve from the heat of the lava. He clung to the air in his lungs as he swam down and under the grating, until he swam up and gasped for air on the other side. He treaded water, looking around once more. 'Now what?' There was nothing for him to climb up onto aside from two small ledges, though there was nothing on them except for dry ground. Nonetheless, they were a better option than tiring himself out and drowning, and so he pulled himself up onto one of them.
On the ceiling was more of the odd blue crystals, as well as a metal ring embedded into it. He tilted his head as he stared at it. Strange markings lined the ring, though it was hard to tell what they were. He looked back down into the water, noticing another of the metal plates at the bottom of the pool. He grimaced. 'Hopefully I don't have to stay down there for too long...' With another large gasp of air, he dove back into the water, this time the iron boots finding their way onto his feet and dragging him down into the water feet first. His footsteps were slow, his chest clinging to the air as best it could, as he made his way to the plate. Finally he stood on it, weighing it down.
Just as his body was about to try and gasp for air under the water, a strange field of blue particles surrounded him, and he was dragged into the air. The next thing he knew, he was standing inside the metal ring he'd seen. Up was down, down was up, and his head spun. The water was above him but below him, the ceiling had become the floor, and something was pulling him down towards the water even despite the blue particles. He looked down (up?) at his feet, noticing squirming white-blue lines running along the boots. Out of curiosity, he raised (lowered?) his foot. To his surprise, he was able to move his foot, though only a little bit before it was harshly pulled back to the strange gemstone surface with an echoing thud.
With effort, he slowly walked towards where the surface curled down - no, up - and out of his vision. As he reached the edge, it became difficult to keep his body from limply dangling down as his feet dragged him forward. His legs burned with the exertion of keeping himself steady combined with walking in the boots. Nonetheless, he continued moving, fighting to keep himself from falling backwards. Finally, he reached where the gemstone surface disappeared back into the rock, the door now right in front of him. A metal bar stretched across the ground between the blue surface and the rock floor. As his slow footsteps reached that metal bar, suddenly the boots disappeared from his feet. He panted as the soreness slowly eased away.
Behind the door was a room that almost reminded Link of the room in Bo's house. At the back was a statue of some kind, with a red gemstone embedded at the top. As he walked closer, he noticed that a small Goron stood in the center of the sumo platform, and that a series of symbols lined the walls behind the Goron.
"Ah... I thought I felt a presence. Welcome, young human. Word has come to me of you... and if Gor Coron has faith in you, then your heart must be true. I am one of the four Goron elders. Gor Amoto is my name." Gor Amoto smiled at Link. "You are heroic, young human. Please, you must lend this tribe your power." He handed Link a strange object, made of differently colored metals.
"That is one of the key shards that, when put together, form the key to the room where Darbus is being held. It was split into three pieces. Each of us elders keeps a piece." Gor Amoto's smile faded into a concerned frown. "You must hurry to the other elders. They are at altars deeper in the mine. They are praying that you can save our patriarch." Gor Amoto's frown became mournful. "He suffers, under the power of evil..." Link nodded, putting the key shard into a pocket.
"Please, feel free to take the map from the chest behind me as well, young human. It should aid you well." The map was very detailed, showing each of the rooms and floors of the mines, arranged by how deep into the mountain they were. Link thanked the elder. Just as he was about to walk over to the ladder, he noticed the symbols covering the walls. 'These look... familiar.' Connected lines and swirls, circles, and dots. A gasp, barely louder than a sigh, escaped him. 'That room in the cellar...' He turned and stepped back onto the simple sumo platform to talk again to Gor Amoto.
"Excuse me... Gor Amoto?" The elder did not open his eyes still, but his head shifted to look up at Link.
"Is something the matter, young human?"
"These symbols, on the walls behind you. What... what do they mean?" One of Gor Amoto's eyebrows raised, ever so slightly. The Goron elder was silent for a time.
"I am afraid I do not know. They have been here since before the time of Gorons living in this mountain." Gor Amoto paused and was quiet.
"This... did not used to be called Death Mountain. Our ancestral mountain sits to the northeast." Link tilted his head.
"Why did you leave your ancestral mountain?" The old Goron sighed.
"It fell dormant some time ago. A cold mountain is no home to Gorons, and so we left." Link wasn't sure what to say, whether he should say anything at all. After several moments of silence, he quietly walked over to the ladder and climbed up to the wooden platform at the top of the room. It led to a rocky ledge, then to another wooden platform, and another rocky ledge that sat directly over where he had entered. Another wooden door led to an odd room, with metal platforms leading to the other side of the room with another door. The fiery slugs slowly crawled along the blue gemstone walls. A hole in the center of the room led back down to the room that brought him to the elder's room, and Link grimaced as he realized that the metal platforms had large gaps between them. 'I'll have to use the boots again...'
As soon as he stepped onto the smooth surface, the boots appeared and were again enveloped in the squirming lines of blue light. He grunted as he painstakingly climbed up and onto the wall, grateful that he at least wasn't having to fight to keep track of which direction was up and which was down, and that he had picked the wall with only one of the flaming slugs. When the slug moved to jump at him, flames licking across its body, he carefully pulled his arm up and slashed at the slug before it could attack. Its body fell down, into the room below, and he sighed as he carefully sheathed his sword and made his way to the door.
He blinked when he realized he was now on top of the stone room where he had to pull the wall to get to the door. Wooden barrels stood next to the metal railing, which had places where it had been broken through on either side. A metal plate sat at the edge of the stone room's ceiling. He cautiously approached the plate, startled when the boots again appeared on his feet. A moment later, he was again surrounded by blue particles. Suddenly he was flying up through the sky, and he landed roughly on the ceiling in another metal circle. The room spun again. For a brief moment the smooth gemstone ceiling almost looked like a lake of still water flowing around rocky islands. But then the pulling sensation was back, and Link was again standing on the ceiling as fiery slugs crawled along without a care in the world.
He hardly paid any attention to where he was going as he trudged across the ceiling and avoided the slugs' attacks, suddenly finding himself in front of a ledge where the gemstone surface curled up - no, down - to where a chest sat. He let out a subconscious sigh of relief when up and down were once again as they should be, doing what he could to ignore the spinning of the world.
Inside the chest was another of the strange heart-shaped gems. It disappeared as soon as he touched it, just like the others. 'Will something happen if I have enough of these gems?' Shrugging, he walked over to where the blue gemstone surface came out of the rocky floor, grimacing as the boots appeared on his feet. To his surprise, however, when he was again dangling from the ceiling, the world was no longer spinning, and he found he was able to navigate the ceiling more easily. Before he knew it, he was standing over a hallway leading to another door. The boots disappeared from his feet, forcing him to duck into a roll as he neared the ground. He stood, only a little disoriented.
The door led into the room with the metal scaffolding, except that this time he was in a different section of the scaffolding. He drew his sword as he saw more of the monsters responsible for kidnapping the children. The monsters were easily slain, and Link grinned as he finished off the last monster with an ending blow. There was a worried tightness in his chest as he moved to execute the sheathing flourish, but his grin returned when it went exactly as it had when he had the ghostly knight helping him.
"Where did you learn that? The last time you tried to do that, you dropped your sword." Midna's tone was curious, surprisingly not mocking him for the times the sword had slipped from his hands.
"The golden wolf. He's been teaching me some advanced sword techniques." She was silent for a few moments. Then she appeared from his shadow, smirking at him.
"Now now, you remember who your master is, right?" Link scoffed and raised an eyebrow.
"The golden wolf, obviously." Midna put her hands to her hips.
"Oh, is that so? Who helped you escape from the castle dungeon? Who told you to come here to get the Fused Shadow? Who let you into the twilight so you could save those light spirits?" There was an edge to her otherwise almost playful tone. Link smirked.
"You did." Midna laughed.
"And don't you forget it! Now hurry up and find that Fused Shadow, wolfy!" With that she dove back into his shadow.
