Chapter 3
Oh, it was quite amusing for Fyodor. The man currently was walking down the sidewalk with a backpack over his shoulders. His typical Russian hat was gone, replaced by a beanie and his clothes were extremely ordinary. He looked like the average civilian, aside from those greedy, red eyes. But, the topic of his amusement wasn't his outfit. It was the visit he was about to pay towards the Yakuza.
He had heard there was some chaos when the boss hadn't returned yet, but most assumed he was undercover or on a very important mission. None of those simple fools could comprehend the "great" Overhaul had lost. Such arrogance for someone so weak. But, he needed more pawns to use for his game, and the Yakuza had quite the stock of them.
Much of the thugs were just glorified canon fodder, but the elites of the group posed some use. For example, the right hand man, Chronostasis, was quite competent with his ability. He could slow downt he time of whoever he touches. But, his intellect and knowledge was vast and he was quite cunning, yet extremely loyal. And Mimic, who could fuse with walls and objects, would be a useful spy. Aside from that, the others had semi-useful quirks.
Fyodor looked up at a large mansion, with two men in suits standing in the front. He looked around and saw many cameras on the perimeter. Fyodor merely just hopped the wall once the camera's were turned away and hid in a bush.
He waited, and waited, and waited until he had seen the camera flicker before powering off. He also saw the entire block go black, all the electricity cut like a wire. Many guards ran outside to guard the door, but Fyodor had already slipped inside. Now, he just roamed the hallways until reaching the basement floor.
Finally, after quite the walk, he reached the meeting room of sorts, where an intercom station was. Inside, he saw Chronostasis and Mimic, both worried. He just opened the door and announced his presence.
"Chronostasis and Mimic, yes? Or should I say Hari Karuno and Joi Irinaka? Thank you for waiting for me."
Chronostasis immediately stood up and was tensed, his hand vibrating from his quirk being active. Mimic started to fuse into the ground as the walls distorted ready to strike.
Fyodor just smirked, "Now now, no need for hostilities. This is no way to treat your new boss."
"You aren't our boss. The Yakuza won't handle this information leak and will need to kill you." Chronostasis stated calmly as he reached for a gun.
Fyodor just tossed his backpack at them both. They unzipped it and found Overhaul's severed head, shock on his eyes. Both of them stepped back in horror and shock. Mimic was frozen in confusion, fear, and horror, while Chronostasis was both curious and scared on how the boss was killed.
"Wha-"
"Now, as I said, I will be your new boss. Any objections, and I burn this place to the ground with you all inside it. Kneel."
Mimic wanted to protest, but was pulled down by Chronostasis, who kneeled to Fyodor. Fear and shock was seen in his eyes as he motioned for Mimic to be quiet. This man had killed Overhaul, someone unbeatable. There was no way anyone could win if Overhaul was defeated by this man.
"Boss, what do you wish of the Yakuza? Are we to cont-"
Fyodor cut Chronostasis off once more with a violent kick to Mimic, who tumbled backwards into the couch. Blood dripped out of his mask, as Chronostasis saw the contact and stiffened.
"Listen. Neither of you will speak of Overhaul's death, and he will be told that he is alive and well. However, I will lead you. If either of you reveal anything, you will find your family in bite-sized chunks of meat across your doors."
Both nodded quickly. Fyodor smiled at this as he dumped the severed head on the ground and stomped on it, the skull caving in on itself and turning into a mush. Blood spread across the ground and dampened their knees with the insides of their former boss. Both gulped at this action.
"Now, inform the Yakuza that Overhaul has arrived back, but is not able to see any visitors for the next month or so due to research."
Both members nodded and quickly left the room as Fyodor looked around. He saw a door near the back of the room, a solid steel door that was left unlocked. Curious, the Russian moved and opened the door, only to see a lab of sorts. It was a bleak and dark room, and tables of notes and research was sprawled across all surfaces. In the center was a glass cage that housed a small girl, maybe 3 or 4.
Fyodor began to briskly read through the research, his smile growing wider and wider by the second. This girl was apparently named Eri and had a very strong quirk called Rewind. However, Overhaul had finished on how to make her blood into a quirk-erasing fluid. For now, it was only up to 3 hours, but he had plans and sketches on how to make it permanent. This made everything so much easier. To rid this world of quirks would be much much easier with this. His ambitions would soon become reality.
...
"Hey Izuku, we have our first hero class today right?"
Izuku looked towards Kaminari and nodded.
"But didn't Aizawa say he would be gone today and we'd have a sub."
"Oh yeah, I remember that. I guess our first hero class will have a sub because neither the original teacher nor Aizawa were able to be here. I heard it's a big hero meeting they are attending."
The Yakuza recently have been more aggressive and active than ever, and the heroes were speculating there is going to be an incident. All Might told him this before he left for the meeting, so he could only assume that this was why the original teacher nor Aizawa were here. Though, he wondered who would be their teacher.
Suddenly, the class heard the door open as Izuku saw a familiar sight. Though, it was shocking to see the man here.
"Dazai?"
"Bingo. I will be your teacher today as the others are off somewhere else."
Izuku's eyes widened further, learning Dazai would be their teacher. Though he had a question come to his mind.
"But you weren't a hero when we last spoke a day ago? Only heroes can teach at UA."
Dazai smirked at this. He already had a lie planned for something like this.
"Well, I was, but not a very public one. You see, like your teacher, I am an underground hero. Though I doubt I have ever been featured or spoke of due to how secretive my work was. But, I decided to substitute here at UA."
"Wait, Izuku, do you know this man?"
Izuku nodded at Kaminari.
"I saw him coming to school one day and we talked."
Dazai coughed into his sleeve to get the attention of the class. All eyes focused on him as he gave another smile.
"My name is Osamu Dazai, but please call be Dazai. My hero name is Zero. This class will be a combat trial I have prepared. So, you all will find that in your lockers is your hero costume, all finished and done. Put them on and head to Area C by 10 minutes."
The students began to stand up and dash to their lockers. Most were eager to see their finished costumes, while some didn't want to make the sub mad in case he left a bad comment to Aizawa.
Dazai calmly strode towards the city. He was amused on how he ended up here. It wasn't hard at all to fake the documents to say he was an underground hero in an outlier district and had no public appearances. He even faked witness reports to make it more convincing. Thus, he interviewed with Nezu, under the pretense of wanting a break from being an underground hero to teach the next generation. Though, he was enlisted as a sub for the time being. It seemed the mouse didn't quite trust him yet. He knew that the creature had a hyper intelligence quirk, so he needed to tread very carefully.
He was also a bit proud of himself. One, he had concocted quite the little battle test for these students an hour ago. And, with this test, he could perfectly see the skill level and power of the students while gauging their intelligence and cunning. Though a 2v2 bomb trial was previously listed as the best way to engage the first class, Dazai found it quite crude to test purely raw strength. So, his new test slotted in just fine.
Dazai had arrived at the location. It was a park that spanned quite the distance, at least 2 city blocks in diameter. it was full of trees and a few smaller buildings, with a larger building in the center. It also had a small river flowing through the middle of it. Surrounding the park was a bunch of skyscrapers.
After a few minutes, Izuku and the rest of the class had arrived. In front of Dazai was a table holding a few items that caught his attention. First was a large, fake diamond in a case. Next was around 10 paintball guns with scopes on them. Finally, 20 communicators all layed out.
"Welcome heroes to a brilliant combat training I have conducted. This will test your fighting skill, stealth skill, and quick thinking all in one amazing exam. Basically, it will be a 5v5 race to steal this helpful little diamond that I will be guarding. Not very hero-like, but it gives you a nice objective. Everyone understanding so far?"
The class nodded as Dazai continued to speak.
"Good, the rest of you not participating will be perched on those buildings and fire paintballs. If a ball hits you, you are out of the game and your team will be down a member. So, you need stealth and agility to reach the center building while not getting caught and fight each other to get the opportunity to fight me. Though, I warn you, I am not to be underestimated."
"Mr. Osamu, how will the teams be decided?"
Dazai looked forward and found a student with a very revealing costume, her name was Momo. Dazai read she was quite shy and reserved sometimes, but possessed an excellent iq and amazing quirk.
"Well, I have a handy app that let's me randomize the selection. So it's completely random. If people picked their teams it wouldn't be as fun now, would it."
Dazai looked again in the crowd and saw a few hands up, he guessed the kids really just loved to hear his voice to be asking so many questions on such a straightforward assignment.
"Hey teach, how far am I allowed to hurt people in this?" He saw the explosive blonde kid grin with a crazed look at Dazai.
"Bakugou knock it off, that's quite villainous to ask the teacher." Ida jumped in, reprimanding Bakugou. But Dazai just made eye contact with Katsuki and grinned.
"Well, Bakugou, all I will say is no killing. But, don't be afraid to fight at your full strength, just no deaths or permanent injuries. Other than that, everything is on the table."
Bakugou let out a grunt of approval, respecting the teacher slightly for this. He didn't want to be hindered by needing to be gentle, otherwise he would never become strong enough to be number 1.
"Teacher, what happens once we get the diamond? Do we win the second we touch it, or..."
"No, you need to safely get the diamond back to your starting point. Oh, and you will find that the fake diamond is quite heavy, roughly 100 pounds. So, all those with high mobility quirks can't just swoop in and take it. Not to mention that the diamond is made out of a quirk dampener, so you will be much weaker holding it."
Most students gulped at that. Carrying the diamond was like a death sentence to just get attacked. Carrying it would leave you weakened and slow, while the other team or the snipers on the buildings could pepper you with attacks. All these thoughts raced through Izuku as he tried to think of solutions.
"Well, with all those questions out of the way, shall I pick the teams." Dazai pulled out his phone from his pocket. He opened it to click on the app. Though, it was one of those rigged sites where you can pick the results. He had planned the ideal matchups right now to get info on the more heavy hitters and possibly test their performance.
"Team A will be Izuku Midoriya, Mina Ashido, Momo Yaoyorozu, Ida Tenya, and Denki Kaminari.
"Team B will be Yuga Aoyama, Ochaco Uraraka, Mashirao Ojiro, Koji Koda, and Mezo Shoji."
"Team C will be Katsuki Bakugou, Eijiro Kirishima, Tsuyu Asui, Hanta Sero, and Rikido Sato."
"Team D will be Kyoka Jiro, Fumikage Tokoyami, Shoto Todoroki, Toru Hagakure, and Minoru Mineta."
Some seemed happy at the teams, other less so. Izuku knew that Momo and Ida were strong and smart, so they seemed to be a good team cohesively. Team B was definitely the most balanced team, with info gathering, raw strength, and ranged quirks. Team C seemed to be built for more aggressive heavy-hitters. Team D seemed to be a more ranged team, with invisible girl being the biggest worry because of her quirk and Shoto being a huge threat in general.
"Team A vs Team C, and Team B vs Team D!"
Izuku went slightly pale at this. It seemed he would be facing Bakugou, a childhood bully of sorts. Though, friend or bully seemed to change on a whim depending on the blonde's mood. Though, right now, he was neither. He was now a target. His eyes met Bakugou, who had a devilish grin on his face.
"So shitty Deku, I'm going to beat your weak-ass out of UA."
Izuku mustered up the courage for a reply, "We will see about that."
"Alright, you two can save your feud for the park. For now, team B and D should go to the building to my left with a paintball rifle. The round will officially start when I shoot this flare gun in the air. Now move to your spots and coordinate with your team for 5 minutes."
Team A and C both grouped up in their respective teams and began to strategize. Izuku looked at his team members, trying to work a plan around their specialties.
"Guys, I have a plan." The group focused on Izuku, as he flinched from the attention, but steadied himself.
"We should form one main offensive team and a flank. The offensive team will push through the middle trying to gain the attention of the others, while the flankers should wait until they have picked up the diamond. Once they get out, they should ambush and take the diamond back to the base, since they will be weaker."
Momo nodded at this.
"That is a good plan. Me, you, and Kaminari should be the offensive, while Ida and Mina should be the flank, as they have good mobility with their quirks. I will create some camouflaged clothing for Ida and Mina to disguise them temporarily."
Momo went behind a lamp post as a feint glow was emitted, then she came back with two pairs of camouflage jackets. Ida found his was a bit too small, while Mina found hers was a bit too big.
"Sorry guys, I only remember how to make them in my size."
"Is that why the chest part is so big." Mina teased, as Momo blushed and turned away. The pink girl giggled at the response as she slipped it on, posing.
Ida was about to say something, but then a thought came to his head.
"Wait, even if we get the diamond, how are we going to get it back safely. Because you three might get taken out and then its a 5v2."
No one made a reply, the group thinking. Izuku felt a few plans, but they were all so obvious to counter.
"Wait, guys."
Everyone turned to Momo, she shrunk a bit from the attention but steadied her voice.
"If the other team is eliminated first then we don't need to get the diamond back. Or doing so will be a lot easier. So, we can just try and stall to get them hit by paintballs."
"But wait. The other team has that scary explosion guy, Kirishima, and more heavy hitters. We can't beat them 1 on 1, they'll crush us."
Mina sounded exasperated after speaking. Suddenly, a massive bell sounded as paintballs began to fly at them, group a ducking into cover.
"Just follow the same plan we discussed." Izuku said over their radio. All of the group nodded as Ida and Mina ducked closer to the wall and began to circle the perimeter of the park. Izuku nodded to the others as he readied himself. He would cause a pretty big distraction.
"One for All. Smash!" Izuku channeled One for All into his ring finger and flicked it, tearing up trees and damaging the building while making everyone on the field steady from the wind. Momo dashed back toward the treeline, Kaminari following suite.
Izuku channeled full cowling, 0.5% into his body and began to run through the treeline, his speed being enough to avoid paintballs. He closed the distance until he heard a loud boom as Kachaan flew overhead, his eyes aimed at Izuku.
Izuku channled One for All in his toe, creating a huge gust of wind that knocked him away from an incoming explosion. The blonde used the momentum and began the chase.
The green haired boy darted in and out of the trees like a rabbit, bouncing from trunk to trunk as he heard the explosions from behind getting closer. Then, something caught his eyes as it landed in front of him, it was one of the grenade bracers Kachaan wore. He saw it start to light up as he covered his face.
BOOM
Half of the park was decimated by that explosion, the shockwave reaching the snipers and destroying many of their guns. Izuku felt his arms were tender and in extreme pain, his chest covered in 2nd or 3rd degree burns. He could barely move and his vision was spinning. He saw Bakugou walking close to him, a cocky strut in his step.
"Even with that quirk, you are nothing. Still a Deku. Will always be a-"
Izuku channeled One for All into the palms of both hands and clapped. It created a small sonic boom that launched Bakugou away from him into the building, crashing into the walls. Izuku knew that no human could stand up after that. Then again, he wasn't getting up. He felt a paintball hit his leg as he hobbled out of the arena.
With Team C
The team didn't really have a plan, Asui knew that it wasn't wise. However, she felt that the team was strong enough to hold most of it's weight, not needing strategy. Especially Bakugou, who was easily one of the strongest in the entire class. His eyes burned for battle.
Asui, Kirishima, Sero, and Sato were charging through the center of the forest towards the building. Sato said that he could break open the wall and surprise Dazai. He surely couldn't beat all 4 of them.
Then, a huge wind gust flew at them, the building sustaining heavy damage and multiple trees near them were uprooted. Asui shielded her body and used her frog legs to stick to the ground. Her tongue grabbed Sero as he flew backwards, both Kirishima and Sato stabbed their hands in the ground to keep rooted.
The wind ended as the group picked pace and kept moving forward. They eventually reached the building. They could hear Dazai singing a song inside, but she couldn't hear the words. Sato motioned to get back as he downed 2 packs of sugar and bursted through the wall.
She saw Dazai have a look of surprise and she grinned running forward towards the diamond to grab it. All of the sudden, a kick was planted on her stomach, sending her sprawling to the floor. Her body should have taken that hit better, it's like her quirk's passive didn't activate.
She saw Kirishima and Sato form a pincer maneuver and surround Dazai, both throwing a punch at him while Sero wrapped his legs in tape. Dazai reached out and touched Kirishima and Sato, their quirks disappearing. He then touched Sero's tape which followed suite. All 3 were shocked, it was the same quirk as Aizawa-sensei.
"That won't-" Kirishima spoke as Dazai punched the boy hard in the liver, sending him staggering backwards, spit flying out of his mouth. Dazai ducked down and heel kicked Sato in the air, a crack was heard when his foot impacted his jaw.
She got up and rushed at Dazai. She had a mutation, meaning he couldn't erase it likely. She could stall while Sero got the diamond.
Asui threw her tongue at Dazai who grabbed it and yanked it. The frog girl went flying at Dazai who used it like a whip to slam her into a wall. Her vision was blurry after, but she got up shakily. She then saw Dazai sweep her legs and punch her neck. After that, it all went dark.
With Ida
Both him and Mina hid in the forest just outside of the building. They saw 4 members of team C enter and he saw Mina tense her body. He breathed steadily, not making a sound as they waited. They heard fighting inside, but he held his arm out to make sure Mina wouldn't get too hasty.
"Izuku said to ambush, we wait until they think they have won."
She nodded. Then, the most earthshattering explosion rang out 100 meters away, Ida used his engines to catch Momo mid-air as the shockwave blew her away. Both landed safely as he set her down. His ears were ringing.
He looked to see the building mostly rubble at this point. He saw Kaminari and Momo engage Dazai while Sero is walking slowly carrying the diamond.
"Now!"
Ida turned on his engines at a high gear and dashed at Sero, who dropped the diamond and jumped in the trees to dodge. Mina used her acid to slide over and throw a bunch at the trees, melting them. Sero fired tape at Ida, but Mina melted it.
"Go Ida! I'll hold him off!"
Ida wanted to protest but nodded as he began to run. The diamond was heavy, but his engines made running a lot easier. Still, he estimated he was only at 1/10th of his speed accounting the quirk dampener. He saw a paintball hit next to his feet as he ran faster.
"I need to go faster! Weakened Recipro Burst!"
The flames on his engines turned into a mixture of blue and red flames as he tripled his speed, running and running.
He dodged the onslaught of paint and weaved through the torn down trees. He saw the gate in front of him and joy filled his eyes. He dived through the gate.
The fighting all stopped as a student above rang a bell. It was over, his team had won.
Back with the full class.
Dazai looked at his students. He saw that Izuku and Bakugou were missing, likely needing more extensive recovery. He was disappointed and impressed with the students. But, he wanted to test their analysis of the situation, see if they can see what he sees.
"Alright my lovely students. That was quite the match. Due to the destruction, we can't do a second match for the rest as the trees and everything is destroyed."
Some students looked sad at that, many cursing Izuku and Bakugou for taking away their chance at participating.
"But, we can do it some other time. For now, I want you guys to analyse the match. First, I want the perspective of the snipers. You, go."
Dazai pointed at Ochaco who gulped then spoke, "Well, I think that both teams did well. Like, Team A has a good plan and Team C used their strength well. It was a close match."
"Ah, right you are Uraraka, it was a close match. However, I feel that Team A did significantly better than Team C in most aspects. For example, their planning was top notch and got them the win. Though, the relied too much on luck, especially near the end. Pose this in your heads, what if their team had a warp quirk? Then the plan would have failed and they would have lost with no resistance."
Momo seemed to think deeply on that, posing it in her head. She could see the merit in the idea.
"Well, class has ended. In fact, it ended over 20 minutes ago. Better be quick if you are taking public transport."
Collective shouts from the class could be heard as they all went into a panicked frenzy to run and change to catch the train/bus. Dazai laughed at the sight, his face happy. Once they were out of sight, his expression shifted into a blank one.
"None of these students pose useful to find Fyodor. None possess intellect or scouting skills needed. Though, Midoriya, Bakugou, and Todoroki are definitely pawns I plan to preserve. Their quirks, willpower, and connections make them useful.
Dazai knew he needed to work fast. He heard of the murders on the other side of town, description of bodies and facial expression likely indicate Crime and Punishment was used on them, meaning Fyodor is on the prowl. Likely he has made roots with an organization or already overtaken it. Dazai suspected either the Meta Liberation Army or the Yakuza, but he didn't have the resources nor info to check either.
Dazai sighed at this. It seems he would be playing counter attack for the first move. If so, he needed to set up a piece to strike once the attack happens. Someone disposable, someone that was strong, but not useful. Dazai smirked then, he knew the perfect person.
The next piece he would use would be Bakugou Katsuki.
...
I'll continue this story likely. Don't expect consistent updates or anything, because I won't release a chapter that I don't think is perfect to the story. And I have stuff to do, so life gets in the way. I want to know if you all want me to continue the story further, there is much potential in this idea, but I won't make it if no one reads it. Have a good day.
