Chapter 16

Bella's POV-

"Bella?" "Bella?"

I was rudely shaken awake, my eyes opening with a stir as a cold tremor passed through me, the last thing I remembered being jumping into the tunnel after hours of relentless search.

Sam?

Where was Sam?

Was he safely back in his universe?

"Are you okay? I have never seen a vampire fall asleep before! It was scary!"

Vampire?!

All of a sudden, my eyes went wide in horror, my brain finally keeping up with the present, as I realized with a cold shudder that I was no longer in my own house, or surrounded by any four walls that I easily recognized.

Where was I?

The second and more startling realization being the person who had 'woken' me up. I did not know her. I had never seen her before in my life. But, somehow, she knew me.

"You suddenly fell asleep! It was crazy!" she murmured the words out, the slowly settling worry in her eyes an indication that she knew me slightly better than one did an acquaintance.

"I thought that maybe you needed blood, before I realized that you had fed to the brim just yesterday! Are we forced to take a nap if we over-eat?"

I was finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with her ramblings, and come to terms with the fact that I somehow was now a vampire. What the hell was up with that?

"Um...I am okay…"

My voice sounded nothing like it generally did- another terrifying reminder that I was no longer a human.

"Good." she chirped, the female sharing a few similarities with Alice in the way her hair was cut short and her petite figure, but her eyes were kind and friendly. Not the fake friendly that Alice lived by, but the actual friendly. Even if you disagree with me, I won't stomp my feet and throw a tantrum- friendly!

"I...just…" I had to know her name. It was physically impossible to have a full-fledged conversation with someone without knowing their name...but how was I supposed to do that?

Clearly, the unfamiliarity was one-sided!

"Where is...um…"

Edward? Alice? Carlisle? Rose?

If I had been turned into a vampire in this universe- it was obvious I had accidentally entered the wrong universe- just my luck!- there had to be someone I knew in this one. Edward wouldn't have abandoned the clueless, high on raging hormones, newborn...or would he have?

"Pete?" she completed my question for me. "He got into a fight with your husband, and is currently re-attaching his limbs. I would have helped, but nah! To be kind-off honest, he should have seen it coming. Pete loves to get him all riled up, and then complains when he gets teared into."

Sam was here?

She had mentioned my husband?

I was married to Sam.

That was a good thing. Surely, it would be strange to witness Sam as a vampire- shape-shifter, human, and now vampire- but having him around me in whichever form was enough. I would gladly accept it.

"Where is he?" I needed to talk to him. I needed to see him.

Would he remember our last conversation? Would he remember the tears in my eyes when I had jumped through that tunnel, our impending separation tearing through me like a scissor did to a piece of paper. Would he remember how my eyes had begged for him to convince me that we shouldn't throw away the blessing in disguise that we had received.

Maybe, we weren't meant to be separated! Maybe, we were meant to accept that world and begin a new life in it.

Fate had just given us another chance.

I wasn't letting him go this time around.

I wasn't leaving. And nobody could convince me otherwise.

"Pete?" she teased, with a coy smile.

I rolled my eyes at her. She clearly knew that I was referring to Sam, and wished to know his whereabouts.

"He is just outside." she shrugged, about to add something unimportant to that, but I was done with the conversation, rushing outside the house in an attempt to reach Sam.

I had to talk to him.

I had to hug him.

"Thank God, you are here!" I pulled him closer to me, my eyes shut as I wrapped my arms around his strong torso, a breath of sheer relief emitted, as I let myself relax in the moment, refusing to ever let him go again.

We were together.

It was fate.

"Darlin', I will always be here."

I pulled back with a jerk, my breaths erratic, as my widened eyes came to terms with what..who stood in front of me...who I had hugged and who had ran a hand through my hair, as the love in his eyes shone bright...the love that he felt for me.

"Jas...s...per?"

Where was Sam?

What was Jasper doing here?

That woman...she had lied to me?

I was going to rip her apart the next time I saw her!

"Why do you seem so confused and overwhelmed, darlin'?" he pulled me back into his arms, my unwilling hands flailing by his side. "You know that Pete can never win against me in a fight, right?"

Wait.

She had said that Pete- whoever he was- had lost in a fight with my husband...but that would mean…

No.

It was impossible.

I was married to Jasper in this universe?!
