So, the summer that Harry got back from his second year of Hogwarts, he hadn't expected anything new. Just the Dursleys being the Dursleys.

But apparently, there had been some big changes at Grunnings. Very big changes. Uncle Vernon was the liaison to a large project on a Central American island. Something huge by some American company. And Vernon had, amazingly enough, gotten in good to get to take a trip to see the project.

However, he had to take his whole family with him. Apparently it was some kind of amusement park project. And he couldn't very well leave Harry behind-Not after he'd mentioned how he was looking after his poor, orphaned nephew.

So Harry James Potter got his passport, got some proper clothes for once, and got to fly in an airplane. Dudley was sick and so stayed back at the hotel in Costa Rica, with Petunia fretting over him, while he and his Uncle Vernon flew out to the island.

The fact Uncle Vernon had to act like he actually liked Harry just to impress these big investors was probably one of the best experiences of his life.

Of course, then he'd actually learned what the park was. A park... Where dinosaurs had been brought back to life.

Jurassic Park.

Vernon's scared shiteless look when they saw one of the great beasts was a nice bonus... But to see real live dinosaurs!

Harry felt like he had when he'd first found out he was a wizard. And to think! It was all thanks to science, not magic!

Hermione would probably go mad over all this knowledge, he thought.

The two grandchildren of the park owner, Lex and Tim, were friendly and wonderful. Lex was a little older than Harry, and very enthusiastic about asking him questions... Many of which he really couldn't answer due to magical law, but still. And Tim? Tim loved dinosaurs, and was happy to tell Harry all about them! And Harry in turn was enthused to learn all he could.

The other visitors to the Park were all right. Doctor Grant was a bit of a grump. Doctor Satler was nice. Doctor Malcolm... Babbled a lot and Harry couldn't figure out what he was on about. And his uncle tried to get in good with the lawyer, Mister Gennaro.

Which suited Harry fine. He didn't have to put up with his Uncle being annoying.

The trip into the park wasn't... The best. Two no shows, but they got to see a sick Triceratops! But then the weather took a turn for the worse, and so they had to head back.

Harry really should have realized something would go wrong. It was something involving him, after all.

So in all honesty, a clinical, detached part of him pointed out that he should have expected to end up in his current situation:

In the cold, pouring rain at night. Standing soaked to the bone. All alone.

While above him loomed the most powerful carnivore to ever walk the Earth.

Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Harry had been in the first of the two tour cars with Gennaro, Lex and Tim. The T-Rex had busted through the powerless electric fence, and Gennaro had taken off running and screaming for the bathroom. Uncle Vernon had followed right after.

Then the Rex had smashed up the tour car, flipping it over. Doctor Grant had gotten there, tried to help them out. Harry had slipped out, then Lex. Tim had been trapped... And then the Rex showed up again, after it had come back from chasing Doctor Malcolm.

Harry had tried screaming at it, to lure it away. He'd fought a basilisk, after all-He had to be good for something here! But the Rex had ignored him, and proceeded to push the car right over the cliff. Doctor Grant and Lex had seemed to fall with it-He didn't know what happened to any of them.

For all he knew, they were all dead.

Now... Now he had the Rex's full attention. It just kept growling at him, ready to lunge.

He clenched his fists. He looked up in rage. If he'd had his wand, if he'd had anything-!

"STOP IT!" He shouted.

The Rex stopped, and tilted its head quizzically.

"... What?" The Tyrannosaur boomed.

Harry's jaw dropped. No... No way... It wasn't... How...?

They'd used frog DNA to fill in the gaps. The introductory movie at the Visitor's Center had shown that. Frog DNA to fill in the gaps in the dinosaur genetic code... But could they have used other DNA sources?

Like... Snakes?!

"Don't! Stop it! Stop hurting people!" Harry shouted.

"This is my territory," the Rex roared back.

"We're no threat to you!" Harry yelled back. "We wanted to admire you! To see you!"

The Rex stared, confused.

"Why?"

"You're incredible, aren't you?" Harry called out in Parseltongue. The Rex almost purred.

"Yes... I am dominant. This is my island."

"So stop hurting people!" Harry shouted. "Don't eat us! We feed you, isn't that enough?!"

The Rex considered.

"You talk... Strange... Don't understand... But... Will not attack you, if you do not attack me," the Rex stated. Harry nodded, letting out a breath.

"Okay... Okay... That's good..."

"The hatchlings... Like you... Smelled familiar," the Rex said. Harry blinked.

"Hatchlings?"

"Like Old Smile. Saw him when born," the Rex continued. Harry's eyes widened, remembering...

"Yes... Yes... Those are his... Hatchling's hatchlings," Harry explained. "You hurt them!"

The Rex looked... Almost contrite.

"Did not know... They are still alive," she said, "you can help them... I must defend my territory."

Harry nodded quickly.

"Thank you," he managed, before he ran towards the cliff. The Rex stomped off, roaring at any would be challengers.

Harry shook his head, shivering, wet, cold, terrified, and trying to save his friends.

Apparently summer holiday wasn't going to be any different from Hogwarts. That would teach him to get his hopes up...

Yeah, I don't even know.
