Chapter 37

The forest was alive with the sounds of thunder as Bella and Jasper clashed. They moved with a deadly grace, their bodies as fluid as water as they exchanged punches and kicks. Every time their fists or feet connected, there was a deafening boom that echoed through the trees.

Jasper was the first to strike, throwing a punch that Bella deftly dodged. She responded with a roundhouse kick that he blocked with ease. They circled each other, looking for an opening.

Suddenly, Jasper lunged forward, slamming Bella against a tree with a force that toppled it over. The impact sent shockwaves through the forest, shattering nearby branches and sending birds flying in every direction. But Bella was quick to recover, grabbing Jasper by the arm and flipping him over her head. She slammed him down onto the ground with a force that left an impact crater beneath him.

Jasper rolled to his feet, his eyes blazing with fury. He launched himself at Bella, throwing a flurry of punches that she tried her best to block. She responded with a fierce roundhouse kick that sent him flying into a nearby rock. The impact cracked the rock in half, sending debris flying in every direction.

The battle continued, each move more impressive than the last. Bella delivered a crushing blow to Jasper's stomach, sending him reeling backwards. But he quickly regained his balance, launching himself at her with renewed fury. He tackled her to the ground, their bodies tumbling through the leaves and dirt.

Despite the ferocity of their fight, neither of them showed any sign of fatigue. Every movement was precise and calculated, every punch and kick delivered with deadly accuracy.

The forest around them was in shambles, trees toppled and rocks shattered from the sheer force of their blows. But they were both so focused on the fight that they barely noticed. They were completely lost in the moment, driven by their love of the battle.

Hours passed as the two warriors clashed, their moves becoming more and more impressive with each passing moment. They were evenly matched, each one pushing the other to their limits. The sun had long begun to set by the time Jasper finally called an end to their training match. As they stood there, adrenaline pumping, Jasper's eyes glinted with pride and admiration as he looked at Bella. "That was amazing, Bella," he said, a hint of awe in his voice. "I don't think I've ever had a fight like that before."

Bella grinned, her focus still sharp as a tack. "Wow, now that's what I call a workout," she replied, looking around at the utter destruction of the forest. "It looks like we've been in a warzone."

Both Jasper and Bella were a mess. They were covered in dirt and sap from the trees, their hair disheveled and their clothes shredded. Jasper's scarred body was visible through the rips in his clothes, proof of his past battles. Bella's clothes were also shredded but luckily still held most of her modesty intact.

As they began to make their way back to the house, Jasper had some exciting news to share. "I spoke with Peter the other day," he said, a smile on his face. "He and Charlotte are coming to visit next week. They're both looking forward to meeting you."

Bella's face lit up at the news. "That's great, Jasper! I've been wanting to meet them ever since you told me about your old war stories with them. It should be fun."

"I think you'll really like them both," Jasper replied, grinning widely. "Charlotte is a warrior just like you. She's been fighting for close to a hundred years, and her fighting style should match closely with yours. And Peter, well, he's a bit of a jester. He doesn't really fit in with the Cullens, save for Emmett, but I think you two will get along just fine. Just don't believe everything he says."

Bella chuckled at Jasper's description of his friends, feeling excited to meet them. As they made it to the house, Bella took in the familiar sight of the living room. But before she could take another step, she was met with a loud screech from Esme.

"Oh my goodness!" Esme exclaimed, her eyes widening in shock as she took in Bella and Jasper's disheveled appearance. "Don't sit down, don't touch anything! Just go straight up to your rooms and take an extra-long shower! I don't know what you two were up to, but it looks like you just came back from World War III!"

Bella couldn't help but laugh at Esme's reaction, feeling grateful for her motherly concern. "Don't worry, Esme. We'll be as clean as a whistle in no time," she said, smiling warmly.

As they made their way up to their respective rooms, Jasper couldn't resist a playful jab at Bella. "You know, Bella, I think you might need more than just one shower. That sap in your hair looks pretty stubborn."

Bella rolled her eyes, playfully swatting at Jasper's arm. "Ha ha, very funny," she retorted. "You had better go get clean before Alice sees you, or you'll be in a world of trouble."

Jasper laughed, glancing down at his ripped clothing and scarred body. "Okay, you might have a point. Not that you look any better, though. That shirt of yours is practically shredded."

Once inside her room, Bella looked at herself in the mirror and cringed at the sight. Her clothes were torn to shreds, and she was covered in dirt and sap. One side of her shirt had ripped completely down, exposing her bra. "Damn," she muttered to herself as she stripped off the remaining shreds of her clothing and threw them into the trash can. "I really liked that shirt."

The following week, Peter and Charlotte arrived, and to Jasper's delight, Bella hit it off with them immediately. Peter had a habit of pushing people's buttons and some could not handle it, but Bella was quick to respond, unfazed by his teasing and gave it right back in kind. Bella and Jasper sparred with Peter and Charlotte several times, and it was evident that they all thoroughly enjoyed testing their skills against one another.

Peter and Charlotte had limited opportunities to train with other vampires, and mostly relied on each other for practice. Therefore, they were thrilled to have the chance to train with Bella and Jasper, all were excellent fighters and they could push each other to new limits. They were both happy to get the chance to meet and train with Bella, and the training sessions were beneficial for all involved.

On this particular day however, Bella had come up with an idea that had everyone intrigued. She called it "Vampire Skiing," and after researching the most dangerous mountains in Colorado she had picked Capital Peak for their ski adventure, she was excited to convince everyone to come along.

Emmett was the first to jump at the idea, his adventurous nature always up for a challenge. Rosalie followed suit, saying yes as soon as she saw Emmett's excitement. Peter and Charlotte quickly agreed as well, eager to test their skills on the treacherous mountain.

Jasper seemed interested, but Alice had reservations. She thought they would have more fun staying at the lodge they had rented. Bella and Peter must have had the same idea, as they both made whipped motions with their hands, then looked at each other and laughed silently.

As for Edward, Carlisle, and Esme, they politely declined, saying that this type of activity was not their cup of tea. Despite their reluctance, everyone was excited for the adventure that awaited them on one of the most dangerous mountains in Colorado.

As the five of them arrived at the base of the mountain, they were met with a daunting sight. At over 14,000 feet of elevation the mountain was everything Bella had described and more; the mountain was truly imposing, with many jagged cliffs with steep drops that seemed to go on for miles. The group looked up in awe, their excitement building with each passing moment.

After packing their gear into large backpacks, the group began their ascent. They moved with impressive speed and agility, their vampire abilities allowing them to make quick work of the climb. However, even for these superhuman beings, the mountain proved to be a worthy opponent. There were moments when they were forced to slow down and strategize, carefully planning their next move as they encountered particularly treacherous spots.

At times, they were forced to climb sheer cliff faces, using only their hands to punch into the rock for a foothold. It was challenging, even for vampires, but the thrill of the climb kept them going. With each passing moment, they grew more determined to reach the summit.

Finally, after what felt like hours of climbing, they reached a spot that felt right to set up camp. They were so high up that the clouds covered the world below, giving them the sensation of being on top of the world. With a sense of accomplishment, they all suited up in their gear, ready to take on the next leg of their adventure.

"Ok, does anyone have an idea which way might be the most fun?" Bella asked, a thrill of anticipation coursing through her veins. Her eyes darted around, scanning the surroundings, searching for the perfect route down. She already had a few ideas, but she was always open to suggestions.

After some discussion, they finally picked a route, and the group decided to race to the bottom of the mountain. Bella could feel the excitement building in her chest as they lined up, adrenaline pumping through their veins.

With a fierce cry, they were off, zooming down the mountain at breakneck speed. The wind whipped through Bella's hair as she raced down the steep incline, her vampire agility and speed allowing her to maneuver around obstacles with ease. She could hear the whoops and shouts of her companions as they followed her lead, each one determined to be the first to reach the finish line.

As they hurtled down the mountain, the clouds below them started to clear, revealing the breathtaking vista of the mountain and all the surrounding skyline. Bella felt like she could even feel her heart pounding with excitement as the world whizzed by in a blur of snow and rock.

As the clouds cleared Bella raced down the mountain, she felt the wind rushing past her face, cold and biting, but exhilarating at the same time. The snow whipped up behind her in a frenzy as she zigged and zagged at top speed, trying to maintain her balance while dodging the trees that loomed in front of her.

But all too soon, the mountain ended in a sharp drop-off, and Bella was faced with a sheer cliff face. Without hesitation, she launched herself out into the sky, her body soaring with excitement as she felt like she was flying into the great beyond. The wind roared past her ears, and she couldn't help but let out a whoop of joy.

But the moment of elation was short-lived, and Bella quickly realized that she was falling, hurtling towards the ground far below. Gravity took hold, and she felt her stomach drop as the ground rushed up to meet her. She braced herself, trying to get her skis in the right position for when she landed.

With a massive crash, she hit the ground, the impact jarring her body as she fought to maintain her balance. But with her superior agility, she was able to guide her skis just right and keep on going. She felt the adrenaline pumping through her veins as she skied on, her body still shaking from the intense rush of the fall.

For a moment, the path ahead of her cleared, and she turned her head to see where the others were. She saw that Charlotte and Emmett were right behind her, their eyes glinting with competitive fire. But Peter and Rosalie had been wiped out from the fall from the giant cliff.

Bella couldn't help but feel a surge of satisfaction at the sight. This was a competition, after all, and she was here to win. Two down, two to go. She grinned to herself, determined to push on and give it her all, no matter what lay ahead.

Bella, Charlotte and Emmett zoomed down the mountain, their skis slicing through the powdery snow. The wind whipped around them, tugging at their jackets and buffeting their faces. Bella was loving the adrenaline rush as she raced towards the next big drop. She could see jagged rocks jutting out from the ground far below, and she knew she had to land perfectly or risk a nasty fall.

As she approached the edge, Bella felt a rush of excitement. It was like she was flying again, soaring through the air with the wind in her hair. She tilted her skis just right, feeling the air currents lifting her up and guiding her towards the landing spot. But as soon as she touched down, Bella knew she was in trouble. The snow was too loose, and her skis couldn't find purchase. She felt herself start to slip, but she fought to stay upright, digging her poles in and trying to regain control.

Just in time, Bella managed to catch herself, wobbling precariously on her skis as she hurtled towards the rocks. She could feel her heart in her throat as she narrowly avoided disaster, the tips of her skis scraping the ground as she landed. Her left ski was damaged, but she didn't have time to worry about it. She had to keep going.

But when she turned to check on her competition, Bella saw that Emmett wasn't so lucky. He had landed right on the jagged rocks and destroyed his skis, and was currently tumbling down the mountain in a cloud of snow. Bella felt a pang of sympathy for her friend, but she knew she had to focus on the race.

It was just her and Charlotte now, racing towards the finish line with all their might. Bella's left ski was causing her trouble, and Charlotte had just passed her and was pushing ahead, but she gritted her teeth and pushed harder, trying to catch up to her friend. But no matter how hard she tried, Charlotte seemed to inch further and further ahead.

In the end, it was Charlotte who finished first, her arms raised in triumph. Bella would have liked to have won but was very happy for her new friend. It had been a treacherous course, and she was just glad she had skied the entire mountain and her skies had made it to the end relatively intact.

As she hugged Charlotte and congratulated her on her victory, Bella couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. Despite the destruction of pretty much everyone's gear, they had all had a great time, and that was what really mattered. Now she and Charlotte just had to wait for the others to return on foot.

Everyone was back at home the next day and all five of them were happily regaling the others with their adventures on the mountain. A good time had been had by all. Later on in the night Bella was engrossed in conversation with Charlotte when she suggested they go to Denver as Peter and herself were hungry and afterward they could all catch the new vampire movie that Bella had been talking about.

"Sounds like fun," Bella replied, turning to the group. "Anyone else want to join us? I've heard the movie is great, and we can all laugh at how vampires are portrayed in it."

Carlisle, ever the responsible leader, spoke up with concern. "Bella, are you sure you want to go with Peter and Charlotte? They will be hunting first in the traditional way."

Bella knew where the conversation was headed and didn't like it. "I understand that, but they only hunt criminals. I don't see anything wrong with that. We're all vampires and I intend to make friends and spend time with other vampires. If I isolate myself from others regarding such a fundamental part of being a vampire, it will be very hard to maintain friendships. And besides, I'm not going to join them in hunting. Now, does anyone want to come?"

Rosalie looked at Emmett, who quickly nodded. "Count us in," Rosalie said, smiling at Bella. She was glad that Bella stood up for her beliefs and convictions. "I've seen the trailer, and that movie looks like a lot of fun."

As they drove towards Denver, Bella inquired about Peter and Charlotte's experience living in Texas. "Is the sun a hindrance for you two?" she asked.

Charlotte smiled and explained that they lived in a very remote area and only went out at night, unless there was a rare cloudy day. Bella thought about what it would be like to live in such a secluded way and determined it was not for her.

Once they arrived in the city, Peter directed Emmett to a parking garage. They exited the Jeep and made their way on foot towards an old strip mall in the distance. Bella looked at Peter curiously, "Where are we headed, Peter?"

Peter pointed to the old strip mall and replied confidently, "My gift tells me that we'll find two drug dealers selling behind those stores."

Once they arrived at their destination, Bella wished them good luck with a smirk and watched as they disappeared into the night, leaving Rosalie, Emmett, and herself behind.

As they waited for Peter and Charlotte to return, Bella turned to her friends and posed an interesting question. "Have you two ever considered hunting criminals instead of animals?"

Rosalie's response was immediate. "I just don't think I have it in me to hunt people, Bella. As you know, I've killed in the past for justice, but to go around and hunt people? I just don't think it's in me to be like that."

Emmett, on the other hand, had a different perspective. He put his arm around Rosalie and gave her a comforting hug. "I probably would do that if I weren't with Rosie here. But I'm happy staying with the animal diet if that's what Rosie likes. Plus, I love hunting animals. It was something I did for food and fun back when I was human as well. What about you Bella?"

Bella had a more nuanced take on the matter. "Oh, I'm happy with the animal diet," she told them truthfully. "But I have no issues with hunting criminals. I never told you guys one story from my trip to Italy. One night in Rome, I came across a woman who was about to be assaulted and I had to step in. Once the woman was safe, I drained the man. I'm glad I did. He did not deserve to live after what I heard him telling that poor girl what he was about to do to her."

Rosalie was quick and wrapped Bella in a tight hug, conveying a sense of gratitude and relief. Bella knew all too well what Rosalie had gone through in the past, and why she had been forced to give up her humanity. She hugged her back, feeling her tremble slightly.

Emmett, always curious about everything, asked Bella about her thoughts on drinking human blood. She chuckled, shaking her head at his eagerness.

"Well, Em, it was really yummy," she said, shrugging her shoulders. "I mean, I wish all blood tasted like that, but fortunately, I am stronger than my thirst, and I have no desire to switch to a human diet."

As Peter and Charlotte returned, their eyes shone like bright red rubies, indicating that they had fed. "How did it go?" Bella asked tentatively, unsure of what to say when your friends have just murdered two people.

Charlotte let out a laugh, and Bella looked at her quizzically, wondering what was so funny. "Oh, it was to die for!" she exclaimed, winking at her.

Bella couldn't help but chuckle at that, grateful for the bit of humor that lightened the mood of their otherwise serious conversation.

Now all back together, everyone made their way to the theater. Bella couldn't help but feel curious about Peter's power. Jasper had mentioned it before, but she wanted to hear more from Peter himself.

"Peter, Jasper told me about your power. He said you 'just know shit.' Can you explain how that works?" Bella asked.

Peter pretended to be in deep thought and stroked his chin, as if he had a beard, like one of those wise old masters that you would see in a movie. "It's simple, really. Sometimes I just know things about people or situations. It's like a gut feeling, but stronger. I can't control it or look for it like Alice can. It just comes to me. Like I just knew those two drug dealers would be where we went tonight."

Bella found it fascinating. "Do you know any shit about me?" she asked.

Peter's face lit up. "Actually, I do know some shit about you. Some big and important shit."

Bella was intrigued and waited for Peter to say more, but it seemed that he was done on the subject. "Well, I guess I'll just have to wait and see what this big important shit is. Thanks for keeping me in the dark," she said with a smile.

When they finally arrived at the movies, Bella spotted some guys she knew from her school and went over to say hello. While she was chatting with them, Emmett tapped her shoulder and handed her a small box saying, "Excuse me, miss, I think you dropped this package of jumbo condoms outside. Thought you might need them."

Bella would have been mortified at one point in her life, but as a vampire, she had tougher skin now, literally. She sucked it up and thought to herself, "Well played, Emmett." Then she turned to her friends and said, "Don't you hate it when your girlfriend loses the rubbers?" As she smiled at them, she could see that some were embarrassed, while others were turned on.

As Bella said goodbye to her friends, she made her way over to Emmett and leaned in close. "So, Emmett, how long have you been carrying around that little surprise in your pocket, waiting to pull that prank on me?" she whispered with a smirk.

Emmett's grin widened. "Three long years, Bella," he said with a chuckle. "I knew someday I would get you with it, and tonight was the perfect opportunity. Totally worth the wait, don't you think?"

Bella giggled and shook her head. "I'll admit, Emmett, that was a good one. But you didn't quite manage to embarrass me. Don't worry, though. I'll get you back regardless." With a devious grin, she turned and walked away, looking for Peter, Charlotte, and Rosalie.

The group had a great time at the theater, and when Peter and Charlotte left later that week, Bella was happy to have made two new friends. As they departed, she couldn't help but wonder what big thing Peter knew about her.
