Part 15: Robin's Bane
Nightwing and Red Hood arrived at the cave, Red Hood carried Red Robin over to the medical bay and laid him down on a gurney. Nightwing went and grabbed Samantha bringing her down so she could heal Red Robin.
"Just . . . A couple of . . . Scratches . . . Red Robin mumbling. ". . . And a dunking . . . " He was nodding off to sleep.
"I see you three have everything well in hand," Batman stated. "Nightwing . . . I need you to check out these electronic stores. See if they'd seen this man." Batman handed Nightwing an image of the Cypher. "Where's Robin?"
"You have got to be freaking kidding me," Nightwing said as he saw that Robin had not yet returned to the cave.
Batman noticed where Nightwing's gaze had gone. "He took off on his own?" He pressed the communications button attached to Robin's com link. "Robin come in . . . Robin . . . Nightwing, you're with me . . . Red Hood, you're on standby . . . Get Red Robin to bed then come back down and monitor our positions, especially Robin's."
"Roger that," Red Hood stated. He removed his helmet but left his mask on. He waited for Samantha to finish up healing Lil Red, his new pet name for Tim.
Robin heard his father's voice, but he didn't answer. He placed his motorcycle on autopilot and sent it back to the cave. He then took Red Robin's cycle and sped off.
"He's going to get himself in a lot of trouble," Batman stated. As he and Nightwing exited the cave, Robin's motorcycle came roaring up, but no Robin.
"I hope he doesn't," Nightwing replied. 'Though knowing that boy he's going to pick a fight with someone bigger than him,' Nightwing smirked.
Robin headed up to the roof tops and waited for something interesting to happen. His palms were itching for a good fight. 'I wonder who i could go against,' he thought. Robin started to roof hop when he came across someone interesting, Bane. He had some people cowering in a corner in the alley way.
"You think you can take on me?" Bane questioned. "You are sadly mistaken. You do not know who you are dealing with. I have broken the Batman. I shall break him again, just as I shall break you."
"Oh, lay off," Robin commented in return. "I bet if you didn't have that crap you bulk yourself up on, I'd be able to take you with one hand!" Robin smiled widely.
"You are nothing but a child. You cannot defeat me. I shall break you in two."
"We'll see about that!" Robin held his Katana out, pointing it towards Bane. "Bring it!" Robin jumped down to ground level, slicing at Bane's arm.
"You expect to defeat me with that child's toy?" Bane questioned. "I think not." Bane grabbed ahold of the weapon and snapped it in two. "I shall do the same to your spine."
Robin jumped out of the way when Bane tried to bash him with his fist. Adrenaline was pumping through Robin that he felt invincible. He pulled out two daggers and used one to stab at Bane's thigh. Robin got out of the way when Bane tried to kick at him. "Missed me!" Robin teased.
'This kid is like an annoying insect,' Bane thought. 'One good swipe and I shall snap him in two.' Bane swung at the boy, but he slammed his fist into the brick wall shattering several courses. "Stand still little one so I can teach you a lesson in manners."
Robin stuck his tongue out. "No! You know, you'd make a horrible babysitter. What if I wanted to play instead of learning?" Robin got behind a dumpster and placed one of his special 'r" bombs on it. He pushed it towards Bane. Bane picked up the dumpster intending on tossing it at the boy.
"Aaarrgh!"
The dumpster exploded in Bane's hands causing its contents to spill all over him.
"That is it little one," Bane growled. "You have tried my patients long enough." Bane pumped a little more venom into his system. "You wish to play? Then play with this!" Bane grabbed a second dumpster and tossed it at the boy.
Robin leapt out of the way. The dumpster flew out of the alley way and into the street. "Now that wasn't nice! You're a horrible babysitter! No pay for you!"
Robin pulled out a few throwing stars and launched them. Two of them sliced one of the tubes for Bane's venom that was sticking out from behind his head a bit. Bane charged Robin like a raging bull. Seeing the fire escpe Robin jumped up and made his way back up to the roof.
"COME BACK HERE!"
Reaching the roof top and looking down at the pissed off villain, Robin feigned, "No, dumb, dumb. You hurt my poor little feelings."
Bane's strength was quickly fading. "You shall pay the next time we meet I shall not be so lenient."
"Yeah, yeah. Enjoy the rest of your night." Robin said, sarcastically. He took off in the opposite direction. 'Wow, that felt great. I feel a hell of a lot better. Though father is not going to like the fact that I went against Bane, but I survived!'
Batman checked Robin's tracking device built into his uniform. "He's heading to the narrows."
"Now, why would he be heading there?" Nightwing asked. He was curious as to why his little brother decided to run off.
"I don't know," Batman replied. "Though I'm beginning to wonder if we've all been a little too cooped up lately."
"I know I have," Nightwing concurred. 'It's nice to stretch my legs a bit.'
"Still, I had a mission for both of you. Cypher is still out there. And with Red Robin exhausted we still need his help to locate him."
"Looks like I'm going to have . . . No . . . You're going to have to talk to Robin about running off. I would, but he won't listen to me. I'll take the mission to check the electronic stores when we get Robin."
"We may have to split up."
Robin made his way into the narrows. 'Crime must be at a medium tonight,' he thought. He was on a roof top when he saw someone trying to mug another person. 'Hey! I believe that purse belongs to the lady!"
"Go away kid," the mugger said. "The lady and I are busy."
Robin watched as the lady backed herself into the wall. He jumped down, landing next to the guy. He gave the mugger a swift kick in the side. He let go of the purse and fell to his knees. "I said, it belongs to the lady!"
The mugger pulled out a switchblade and stabbed the kid in the ribs. "And I said, it's none your business."
Robin gasped. He held onto his side with one hand and used the other to sock the guy in the nose, knocking him out. The lady ran out of the alley, picking up her purse once she was the guy had stabbed the boy. Robin stumbled out of the alley holding my side. "Great . . . just what . . . I . . . needed." Robin fell against the wall and slid down to the ground. 'Guess, I . . . Let my guard . . . down.' Slowly, everything went dark.
Batman kept his eyes peeled for his son. He was about to give up the search to look elsewhere when he spotted a familiar yellow and black-hooded cape lying on the ground. "Robin!"
