Calamity In 1-A
Chapter Four - School's In! Part 1
It had been about a week since Anne and the Plantars started living with Shota Aizawa, the pro hero Eraser Head.
It was…an interesting experience to say the least.
Anne didn't quite know what to think of the man, he patrolled at night so he always seemed to be tired and grouchy. He was also very strict, maybe even more than her mom, he was easily annoyed, and that led to Polly and him butting heads quite often with Anne having to be the mediator on multiple occasions.
Anne also had to spend time training with Aizawa, mostly just some meditation and the occasional physical exercise or activity, Aizawa was a harsh but fair teacher, pushing her hard while still knowing when enough was enough, though sadly while they had gotten close to activating Anne's powers, they still weren't able to make it happen.
However, the day had finally come.
After a week of waiting, it was time for Anne to begin attending U.A. High.
Anne was getting dressed, a few days ago Aizawa had given her a custom-fitted version of the school uniform, a gray jacket that had blue-green stripes and a red tie underneath a long sleeve white button up, the look was completed with a blue-green skirt and brown dress shoes.
"Isn't this so exciting Anne!" Sprig asked his adopted sister with delight. In the time they'd spent in this world, Sprig had grown a love of heroes; he thought they were awesome and inspiring, especially the number one hero All Might.
"Eh, you already know, I'm not a big fan of school," Anne replied, it didn't help that she was going to an entirely different school there wouldn't be a language barrier thanks to someone at the police station whose quirk was the ability to get or give knowledge a language in an instant, but she still wouldn't have Marcy and Sasha with her.
Anne shook her head to clear those thoughts, now wasn't the time, she smiled over to Sprig and ruffled his hair "But with you here I'm sure it'll be fine." "Ha-ha hey!" Sprig and Anne laughed
"You two get down here!" Aizawa informed them from downstairs "Yes Aizawa!" They responded and headed downstairs. They found Aizawa dressed in his hero costume while Hop Pop and Polly were sitting on the couch.
"Come on, we don't want to be late," Aizawa told the two friends with a stern tone.
"Alright!" They replied not wanting to be on the man's bad side.
Before they left, Anne turned to Hop Pop and Polly "Hop Pop, Polly, are you guys sure you don't want to come." she asked
Polly and Hop Pop shook their heads "Nah, we'll be alright." Said Polly with Hop Pop stating "You go enjoy school."
"Alright remember if you ever want to come with just let us know, also try to research some portals and junk while we're gone," Anne replied
"You got it." Hop Pop responded.
As soon as they left the house Polly pulled out two DVD cases and showed them to Hop Pop "So, are we watching Starzgate or Quantum Hop?" She asked her grandpa
Having already made his choice Hop Pop fist bumped in excitement "Quantum Hop! Quantum Hop!"
Anne hadn't quite known what to expect from U.A. but it wasn't what she saw, a large almost H-shaped building with students of all shapes and sizes going inside all surrounded by a large wall.
All Anne and Sprig could say was "Whoa."
Seeing their awe, Aizawa stated, "Welcome to U.A."
Sprig and Anne followed Aizawa through the seemingly endless halls of U.A. until they found themselves outside a room with a plank saying 1-A with the doors open.
Anne saw a girl who was just inside the classroom, she had chestnut brown shoulder-length hair with short bangs and perpetual blush on her cheeks who appeared to be talking to a plain-looking boy with freckles and fluffy green hair.
"What do you think we're doing today besides orientation? I wonder what our teachers are like! I can't wait to meet everybody!" The girl said
This seemed to irritate Aizawa who stood behind her and said "If you're just here to make friends, then you can pack up your stuff now." This was met with surprise from the students in the class.
After having gotten to know Aizawa for a week Anne wasn't really surprised at his response, Aizawa was an honest person who took hero work very seriously.
"Welcome to U.A.'s hero course." Aizawa welcomed before saying "It took eight seconds before you all shut up. That's not gonna work. Time is precious. Rational students would understand that." He then walked towards the front of the class, he then turned to Anne and Sprig "Anne, go take a seat Sprig, Stay up here with me."
Anne could feel that she was getting looks from her classmates. She couldn't blame them though, she was a foreigner and came in with the teacher. She ended up sitting down behind a girl with long green hair and seemed to have frog-like traits and in front of a tall boy with glasses and black hair.
Before there was any chance to strike up a conversation Aizawa introduced himself "Hello, I'm Shouta Aizawa your teacher."
This threw off all the students excluding Anne obviously "Eh?!" They all exclaimed in surprise, Anne could understand why Aizawa didn't really seem like the teacher type.
"Right, let's get to it. Put these on and head outside." Aizawa pulled out a dark blue tracksuit with white lines that formed the school's initials
The students left in confusion with their homeroom teacher.
Anne didn't know what was going on but she had a bad feeling that this was not going to be pretty.
"What?! A Quirk assessment test?!" Class 1-A exclaimed.
The students dressed in their given gym uniforms stood in a field just outside the school, there was a running track and a sandpit, and many other stations. Anne had to admit she was impressed by said field's massive size.
"But orientation…We're gonna miss it." Said the brown-haired girl from earlier voicing the disappointment of her and her classmates.
"If you really wanna make the big leagues, you can't waste time on pointless ceremonies." Aizawa responded before explaining, here at U.A., we're not tethered to traditions. That means that I get to run my class however I see fit." This caused sighs to ring out from some of the class.
"You've been taking standardized tests most of your lives…but you never got to use your Quirks in physical exams before." Aizawa told his students before making his opinion known "The country's still trying to pretend we're all created equal by not letting those with the most power excel. It's not rational. One day, the Ministry of Education will learn."
Aizawa then looked at a specific student "Bakugou, you managed to get the most points on the entrance exam."
The boy walked over to his teacher, he had spiky sandy blonde hair with choppy bangs over his eyebrows and sharp red eyes along with a pretty muscular body for his age, he gave off a feeling of general apathy. Anne didn't know why but he reminded her of Sasha.
"What was your farthest distance throw with a softball when you were in junior high?" Aizawa asked the top-ranking student to which the boy nonchalantly replied "67 meters, I think."
Aizawa then tossed a softball over to the blonde-haired teen and pointed towards a nearby circle on the ground "Right. Try doing it with your Quirk."
When Bakugou walked into the circle, Aizawa said "Anything goes. Just stay in the circle." Bakugou did some stretches "Go on. You're wasting our time."
The Boy just turned to his teacher and shrugged "All right, man. You asked for it." He then reeled back, back arched and hand raised high starting to spark "Ngh…Urahh!" a powerful explosion came from the boy's hand and the ball was sent flying across the sky covered by a fiery trail, the air seeming to part in wake of the projectile as it finally touched the ground.
The students were stunned by the powerful showing. Anne could've sworn she heard a voice saying "Oh, well…"
If Aizawa was impressed he certainly didn't show it, he turned to his students with his usual blank expression. "All of you need to know your maximum capabilities. It's the most rational way of figuring out your potential as a pro hero." The Man took out and showed his phone to the class, it read 705.2 meters
"Woah!" Was the sentiment of almost every student in class including Anne, in awe at the distance of the throw. This led to murmurs from the students.
"Woah, 705 meters? Are you kidding me?" Exclaimed a boy with short golden hair with a black streak that was in the shape of a lightning bolt.
"I wanna go! That looks like fun!" beamed an excited girl with pink skin.
"This is what I'm talking about, using our Quirks as much as we want!" Declared a boy with weird-looking elbows.
But Anne was not as excited as her classmates and not just because she couldn't control her powers.
This doesn't feel right. Anne had gotten to know Aizawa and this seemed too easy for him, where was the catch?
"So this looks fun, huh?" said Aizawa unamused, "You have three years here to become a hero. You think it's all gonna be games and playtime?"
Aizawa then smirked "All right. Whoever comes in last place in all eight tests will be judged to have no potential and will be punished with expulsion."
"HUH!?" was collectively exclaimed by the class shocked at the harshness of their teacher
…There's the catch.
"We're free to do what we want about the circumstances of our students." Aizawa had an ominous smile
"Welcome to U.A.'s hero course!"
We're finally done with the setup and are finally in U.A., Apologies for how it took for this chapter to come out and the cliffhanger this chapter has been very difficult to write not helped by my getting distracted by life. I felt bad about not updating in a while so I decided I would break the chapter into two parts so that you guys won't be waiting for so long and so I can have a break to think about this chapter and maybe this story in general I hope you all can understand. In other news I've been thinking of getting some beta readers for this fic if you are interested just talk to me preferably in private so that we can talk. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this chapter hopefully the next one won't take as long as this one I wish all of you a good day goodbye!
