"You know Josh," Dr. Watson set her clipboard down and leaned back in her chair. "You've been sitting in my chair for weeks and you'll talk about anything in your life except for your wife's miscarriage. Why is that?"

Josh huffed and crossed his arms over his chest. "I told you. I don't want to talk about it right now."

"You don't have to talk about it with me, but you have to talk bout it with someone. Have you tried talking about it with your wife? You just seem so closed off when it comes to that. Maybe talking about it in general could do you some good."

Josh started to feel hot as he could feel the ball forming in his throat. He wanted to forget it. He didn't want to cry about this. Not now. Not again. But he was too late. As a tear brimmed his eye, he choked out a sob and broke down. Hot tears ran down his face as he did his best to wipe them away. "We were going to have a son," he whispered. "I was going to have my own little boy. You know all my life I've always wanted to be the kind of father to my own son the way my dad was to me? And I thought it was my time, I thought it was my turn, I-"

Josh paused and took a deep breath. "I wanted that baby but-"

"Continue only if you want Josh."

With red cheeks he trained his eyes to the floor, not sure if he should even say it. "I'm not sure if Maya ever did."

.:.

Walking in the house, Josh closed the door behind him softly as he was instantly met with the smell of food. He took a deep breath and smiled as kicked his shoes off and walked into the kitchen. Maya stood in front of him with a smile on her face as she set the lighter in her hand down. "Surprise!"

The table was adorned with candles and food that honestly looked delicious. Smiling, Josh walked further into the room and took Maya into his arms for a hug. "This is sweet honey." He wrapped his arms around her waist as she too did the same. He looked down at her and pecked her lips. "Thank you."

Maya shrugged. "I just wanted to do something nice. I actually called your mom and had her help me me make one of your favorites. I figured a home cooked meal would be better than eating out for the hundredth time in a row."

Josh kissed her forehead again and smiled. "Come on. Let's eat."

Sitting down, Josh looked over all the food and smiled. She made all the things that reminded him of home. A delicious red pasta that Amy made all the time growing up and a small apple pie that he could spot cooling on the stove across the room. They ate together quietly, exchanging pleasantries and talking about their days. "Dr. Watson even said that she thinks I might graduate from therapy soon," Maya said quietly as she took a sip of water. "That's kind of scary but exciting you know? I've really been putting in the work. I do honestly feel a lot better and I think I'm even getting better at communicating feelings don't you think?"

Licking some sauce of his lips, Josh agreed. "I do. I've seen the changes in you and I recognize them and I appreciate them."

Silence fell between them as he thought back to his latest session with their therapist. Maya noticed his deep train of thought and reached out to touch his hand. "Josh?" he looked up. "Is there something you want to tell me? You just seem like you're anywhere but here right now."

Wiping his mouth, Josh placed his napkin down and cleared his throat. "I don't want to upset you or get in to any of it right now. Not when you just made me this amazing dinner. I-"

Maya shook her head. "No. Tell me what's going on."

Maya sat up a bit straighter as she waited for Josh to speak. "Maya-" she gave Josh a pointed look to continue. Sighing, he continued. "I had been having a hard time talking to Dr. Watson about your miscarriage and today I finally broke and I was just left with some questions that she suggested I have an open and honest conversation with you about."

Nervous, Maya pulled her hand from his and pushed some hair out of her face, not breaking eye contact. "Okay," she breathed. "Then let's talk. That's the first step towards having a conversation about it." She reached out again and held his hand with both of her hands. "I want us to have a real and honest conversation about it. One that doesn't end in us avoiding it by having sex on the stairs," she laughed.

This caused Josh to smile as he thought back on the memory. "That was pretty good wasn't it?" he said cockily.

Maya rolled her eyes and kicked him under the table. "I'm serious Josh. I want you to tell me what's up."

Taking a deep breath, Josh opened his mouth and began to speak honestly. Maya listened intently, not missing a single word. For the first time in a long time, she listened just to listen and not to respond. She wanted her husband to feel heard. To feel seen by her. She wanted him to know that she cared so deeply for him and about his feelings. So she sat there and listened and responded when it was necessary but she allowed him to feel.

And that's all he could have ever asked for.

.:.

The couple stood hand in hand and stared up at the house that has acted as their home for the past few months. Josh wrapped filming on season two of his show so that only meant one thing. It was time to go back home. "You ready?" Josh asked.

Maya took a deep breath and sighed. "As ready as I'll ever be." As they said goodbye to a place where they started to put themselves back together, they looked forward to seeing how well the glue they placed will hold once they were back home.

The flight to New York was easy as was the drive home but that didn't mean everything would be easy once they got through their doors. Hand in hand they walked down the street to their New York brownstone ready for peace and quiet but were abruptly bombarded with flashing lights and cameras being shoved in their faces. There were crowds of photographers shouting their names and aggressively shoving their cameras in their faces.

Instinctively, Josh stuck his arm in front of Maya as the press became more and more aggressive. Between aggressively loud and honestly invasive shouts, Josh started to push his way through but started to fail. "Josh! Maya! Give us a kiss!"

"Tell us about your wedding!"

"Is it true that you two are already on the brink of divorce?"

"Josh are you leaving Maya for one of your costars?"

"Maya is it true that you're cheating on Josh?"

The flashing lights and intense shouting started to make them both uneasy. Pulling on Josh's arm, Maya looked up at him and whispered in his ear. "Come on let's make a run for it."

Nodding, Josh took her hand in his and pulled them back as they took off down the street. They ran with a swiftness hand in hand down the street. Running through crowds of people in their efforts to evade the paparazzi. Out of breath, Maya stopped and leaned against the side of a building. Panting, she fanned herself with her hands and looked around them. "I think we lost them," Josh said through his own tired breath.

"I sure as hell hope so," Maya panted. "I'm exhausted. I haven't ran like that since- well ever." Josh suppressed a laugh as Maya side eyed him. "Well what do we do? We can't go home. They know where we live now so we won't be safe there."

"You're right about that. I'll call Cory. We can see if we can stay with him and Topanga while we figure out where we're going to go."

Maya, still out of breath, gave a thumbs up. "Works for me. Just as long as there is no more running."

.:.

The soothing atmosphere that was Cory and Topanga's brought a lot of comfort to the pair. Josh thought back to the last time he was here. Early morning, getting marital advice from his big brother. Life was different then. They were so different then. Their marriage was brand new, he had just started to work again, and they were getting ready to become parents. So much had changed but they were stronger now. Working towards a great life together.

Topanga set down coffee mugs in front of the couple and sat across from them with her husband by her side. "So let me get this straight. You guys came home and they all were just there? Waiting for you guys to get back?" Cory asked.

"Yup," Josh breathed. "I don't even know how they figured out where we live. We had been there for so long with no issues that I thought we were good. I guess I was wrong."

Maya rubbed Josh's back in a comforting manner. "It's okay honey. We'll figure this one out. Together."

Maya took Josh's hand with her other free hand and they shared a sad smile. They loved their Brooklyn Brownstone. It was their first place together. It held a special place in their heart. They weren't ready to say goodbye just yet. Topanga and Cory noticed the soft and loving interaction between them and smiled, knowing that everything had gotten better since the last time they spoke to Josh.

"Well you guys are welcome to stay here as long as you like. We have a spare room that doesn't get enough use anyways." Topanga told them. "Well we've got an early start to the day tomorrow, so we're going to turn in. Lock up for us?"

Topanga and Cory left the young couple to their own devices as they headed upstairs. With their hands still intertwined, Maya and Josh bid them goodnight as they each sighed and sat in silence for a moment. "Baby what are we going to do?" Maya whispered. "We bought that place as our forever home. You proposed there and I told you I was-" Maya stopped, not wanting to bring up the now painful memory.

"You told me you were pregnant there. I know," Josh whispered. "But we can't go back there. It's not safe anymore. We'll just have to start over." Maya sighed and rested her head against his shoulder. "But starting over won't be so bad. I mean, there are a few things I'd like to forget that happened in that place. Maybe it'll be good for us. To start over somewhere new."

Maya lifted her head from his shoulder. "As in leave New York?" She frowned. "But what about our family? They're all here."

Josh shrugged his shoulders. "It doesn't have to be permanent. Or it could be permanent. What I'm saying is I don't know but I just think starting over isn't the worst idea."

"Yeah maybe you're right," Maya whispered.

"I don't even know if Redemption is getting picked up for a season three and you haven't even gone back to work yet, so why don't we just let life happen this time around? Take our time with everything else and focus on getting us right."

Maya sighed. She had to admit, it wasn't a terrible idea but New York was home. But maybe it was time for them to build a home somewhere else. Before they could further the conversation the front door bust open and there stood Riley. Maya looked up and she knew instantly what to do. She looked towards Josh and gave him a quick peck on the cheek. "Sorry honey, the bay window is calling."

Josh just laughed to himself as he watched Maya scurry up the stairs with Riley to her old bedroom. Dashing to the seat, the best friends sat down and stared at each other before embracing each other. "Thunder," Riley whispered.

"Lightning." Maya squeezed her tight. "I missed you so much Riles."

"I missed you too Maya." Letting go, she smiled at her. "So I take it things are better with Josh?"

Maya smiled. "A lot. Thanks to you. It was honestly amazing that you had my back there. You could have easily said forget it and made sure he left me or something. I love you for believing in me and believing in us."

"You two are the epitome of an epic love story. What would it be without its ups and downs? I'm just glad you listened to me." Smoothing her hands down her things she sighed. "So what's going on? I got your text and I went by the house to see it swarmed. What are you guys going to do?"

Maya sat back and frowned a little. "Well we obviously can't go back there but maybe it's a good thing we can't. We could start over somewhere new. Josh suggested leaving New York as a whole."

"Whoa." Riley sat back. "What do you think? Where do you want to go?"

"I think... I think I want to do what's best for me and Josh at this time. We have to be honest with ourselves you know? I love that our family is here but maybe he's right. Starting in a new place could be really nice. Setting our roots down somewhere else you know? Plus New York isn't equipped with the neighborhoods to keep us safe from our apparently growing popularity with the media."

Maya stared off into space as Riley bumped her shoulder. "I think you've already decided what you want Maya. So where is it that you think you and Josh will be the safest?"

Maya sighed and smiled to herself. "I hate to say it but I think we need to go back to California. That's where it all started right? The city has everything we need for our careers, plus I'm sure it'll much easier to find a neighborhood with security for us. You know? Somewhere all those really famous celebrities live."

"Hate to break it to you Maya but you guys are one of those really famous celebrities. Whether or not you realize it."

A subtle knocking at the door brought Maya and Riley's attention towards it. "Sorry to interrupt," Josh said. "But I think I need a bay window moment with my wife. May I Riley?"

Riley smiled softly. "Of course Uncle Josh." She stood and made space for him before starting to leave herself. "Talk to you later Maya?"

Maya nodded as Riley left the room and patted the seat Riley once occupied for Josh to sit in. "What bring you to the bay window?"

Josh let out a breath and wrapped an arm around his wife. "I think you know."

Maya slowly nodded. "We need to figure out our next move."

"Indeed we do. So, I've given a little bit of thought but I want to know what you're thinking."

Maya took a moment as felt Josh rub her shoulder softly. God, he was so comforting when she really needed it. "California. I think home is California."

Josh smiled and kissed her temple. "God you're so perfect for me. I was thinking the exact same thing. California it is."

A new start that involved going back to where it all began. Neither of them could think of anything more perfect than that.

A/N: Hope you enjoyed this one! What do you think of them moving back to California? How do you think Maya and Josh will cope with their rising popularity? I'm gonna try and get one more chapter out before I leave to travel Europe in a few days. Hopefully I can get you guys something good!
