"It's just, it's not just you and Papyrus that have a font name and use a font as your in-game text. There is a hidden file, a lost Lab entry that's in the Wingdings font, you know the weird one with all the symbols and hand gestures." You wait for a reaction but hear nothing.
"So there is a lot of speculation and evidence that W.D. Gaster is WingDings Gaster and could be related to you and Papyrus in some way, or at least a skeleton monster due to his suspected sprite and text." Still nothing, sure it was a lot to take in but you at least expected him to say something.
"Sans? Are you still there?" And still nothing…had the connection dropped? Maybe he was on mute and didn't realise it, you'd done that plenty of times yourself. Opening up the Journal notepad, the start of all of this, you type out,
'Hi Sans, are you there? If you are, I think your mic might have muted.'
You wait, it never seemed to take him long to reply to the notebook before but after a couple of minutes the blinking text line (which you were sure had an official name, you would have to look that up at some point) remained where it was. Admittedly you had just dropped some pretty big news but you didn't expect Sans to just stop talking.
'Are you okay?'
Finally the text bar moves to the line below.
-Connection required-
Your hands jolt away from the keyboard like it had burned you as the letters slowly and methodically appear on the text document. Not Sans then.
Okay, this was fine. You were fine. You were calm and could stay rational to work this out. Not like this was the first time you had to navigate talking to someone like this.
First things first you had to make sure you knew who you were talking to. Not that there were many options to pick from considering the circumstances.
'W.D. Gaster?'
-Yes-
Your apprehension is quickly bubbling to excitement. Not only was this the most unknown and speculated character, sorry, person from their world, but he was likely the source for everything that was happening. Finally some answers! However that also meant he was an unknown. You didn't know him like you did the other people you had met through the game, and he had been depicted in so many different ways that you really didn't know what to expect.
-Connection required-
Okay, you at least knew he wanted the internet back on, rather insistently, but for what? Was it to help Sans' world in some way? Or maybe to get into your world to do who knows what. Releasing a crazy scientist void monster onto the internet did not sound like it would end up going well. You had also not missed the fact that the sudden dropped connection with Sans had happened just as you had started to explain there might be a connection between the two. So it was a good idea to keep some suspicion.
'Why?'
-FUN DTI required-
Okay you knew what FUN was, or at least, you knew what FUN stood for, you didn't actually know what Fractal Unity Network actually was. Though if you had to guess, maybe, many a Unified Fractal? So smaller copies of something being brought back together…that was a positive sign, maybe everything was all to find the right solution to break the barrier. The problem was that, like you had discussed with Sans, the barrier was broken, and everyone was living their lives by the sounds of it. So what would this do? For all you know it could merge all the games together, or delete them all to bring about one final timeline. Would that leave the Sans and Alphys you had been talking to be deleted? Or replaced? Or overwritten? Was their world and all of the others just an experiment to lay the foundation for a main timeline?
Then there was DTI. What was that? DT could be Determination but DTI? Not a clue.
'What is DTI?'
-Determination Intent-
Sure that told you a whole lot didn't it. You were getting nowhere quickly with this, though you do make sure to write down the meaning just in case something happened to the documentation…you wouldn't put it past Gaster to wipe this conversation whenever you end up getting hooked back up with Sans.
'Can you please just tell me what you are trying to do? I want to help but I can't if I don't know what I am agreeing to help with.'
-Small concepts please-
Small what? Ugh, this was like talking to one of those chat bots. Wasn't Gaster meant to be a brilliant scientist? Yet he was giving three word answers, most of which you had little to no clue how to interpret or if you were interpreting them correctly. At least he was being polite, one up from the first meeting with Sans anyway.
Small concepts? Small 'words'? No, maybe 'questions'? You had a million questions you wanted answers to, and none of them were small.
-Connection required-
"Just give me a straight answer, stop dodging the questions."
-Focus…difficult-
Difficult? Oh…right, scattered across space and time…that would likely put a damper on being 'all there', but if he had managed to do all of this then surely a conversation wouldn't be that hard…but that's the thing, had he? You were sure that he was the root of everything happening, the fact he was so set on returning the internet connection and getting this strange program of his to do…whatever it was that it was designed to do, confirmed that. But that didn't mean he held all the power and was in control. You were the one who reached out and then Sans was the one who had kept adding to the connection. Plus it had taken over a year for this to happen.
Of course he could just be lying, but then how could you trust anything he says?
What had Sans said before? You felt he had been on the edge of a breakthrough before this. About how the internet contains a huge amount of determination to see the monsters happy. Could that be Determination Intent?
"Are you trying to make everyone happy? Good ending for all?"
-YES-
-Please-
-Connection required-
Okay. Now was the big question - do you believe him?
