A monstrous showdown
"Listen, whoever you are! No one can control the symbiotes, no one!" Spider-man announces, ready to see who started all of this nonsense.
"You're a fool if you think I can't control the symbiotes, Spider-man." The bright lights shut out, revealing the two villains that Spider-man can't believe it was them the whole time.
"Fishbowl head!?" Spider-man yells in shock.
"That's Mysterio, you wall-crawling menace!" The angry voice of Mysterio shouts back, not appreciating the insult from his nemesis. "As I was saying, with the new technology in my possession as well as Carnage here as a faithful test subject, I will use my future symbiote army to cause destruction all across the city and beyond until the people beg for a new hero which I the master of illusion will claim to know the way to stopping them and once I show that they are in my control my takeover will be complete."
Mysterio and Carnage teaming up on this so-called master plan? How didn't I see that coming and something not adding up? "Not to mess up your cliche final boss reveals whole plan speech, but what does that have to do with the fog you spreading out there?" Spider-man questions curiously.
"Oh me, I have nothing to do with that; however, as the new hero, I happen to capture the one behind poison gas already." Mysterio points behind him as four steel tentacles grab Spidey's legs and arms and lift him in the air.
"Doc ock!? You in on this too?!" Spider-man tries to break free from his grasp but not getting a response from the doctor that supposedly turned over a new leaf.
"Not willingly. You see, the reform Doctor Octivatious gig was originally going to be part of our master plan. However, the doctor grew greedy, so I had to put him in his place. Thanks to his mind control device that he made, I was able to surprise him by placing it on his head, thanks to Carnage's help. So as for you, Spider-man, you either know your place and stand by me or crush underneath my booth." Mysterio explains feeling proud that his evil scheme is coming together nicely.
That is until Venom pops out of nowhere and attacks Doc Ock from behind, causing him to let go of Spider-man. "Speaking of crush, it's show time freaks! Oh, I smell some bad symbiote, and it ain't me!"
Before Spider-man can process Venom's sudden appearance, Carnage quickly readies himself to fight his related symbiote counterpart screaming, "Bring it on, grandpa!"
The two symbiotes begin hitting each other, leading to their battle in another room of the lab, leaving Mysterio and Doc Ock to deal with Spider-man. "I would say finally alone, but I don't like being the third wheel," Spider-man states, getting into his fighting stance.
"Indeed, in that case, allow me to give you and Ock some alone time," Mysterio commands Doc Ock to battle Spider-man as he leaves to finalize his plans.
Doc Ock jumps into the middle of the room and activates a shield barrier to protect him from any Spider-man attack while he can use his mechanical arms to bypass the shield to attack him. Spider-man theorizes that he must find something to draw power away from the machine. As he avoids the doc's attacks, he notices a switch drops down with the word on making Spider-man tap it causing control to revert to the machine. The button appears a few more times, and Spidey performs the same task until the barrier shocks Doc Ock, leaving him open and vulnerable. Spider-man swiftly attacks him but gets knocked back by one of the arms while the wall comes back on, meaning Spider-man will have to repeat the steps a few more times before he can finish off Ock. Spidey's theory turns out to be correct as he lands the final blow on the doctor while also frying the mind control off his head.
"One down, two to go. I wonder how is Venom doing?" Spider-man thinks to himself when suddenly Venom gets kicked down right beside him.
"Eddie? Eddie, are you alright talk to me!" Spidey checks on Eddie, unable to notice Carnage stalking him from above due to his spider-sense not being able to pick up on Venom's or Carnage's presence well. "Wake up Brock!"
"Look out, Parker behind you," Venom mutters while weakly pointing upwards to warn Spider-man but failing.
"What did you say?" Spider-man doesn't get a chance to react as red tentacles snatch his wrists and brings him up to the owner in Carnage, swinging our hero into the next section of the lab. Recovering, Spidey sees a sonic bubble in the middle of the room and assumes that due to the symbiote's weakness, fire and sound, Mysterio and Doc Ock created the machine in case Carnage double-crossed them.
The deadly battle begins with Carnage throwing axe projectiles toward him before leaving over the bubble to get in close to Spider-man. Spidey, having a history of fighting the red killer, knows he can't attack him at close range for a long time, for Kasady will end up tanking his attacks and could slice him up. With that in mind, Spider-man relies on his super strength by hitting Carnage hard enough to move him inside the bubble where the sonic waves activate, causing the symbiote to scream in pain. Thankfully, he remembers bringing plenty of web cartridges for Spider-man web him so he can't walk out of the machine so easily and eventually passes out from the constant sound waves.
"You are a born loser Cletus Kasady; it's like I told Mysterio no one can control the symbiote," Spider-man states as the red symbiote make its way off Cletus and escape.
"Curse those two idiots; they both had one job!" Mysterio yells in anger and enters the room. He was expecting that between two villains, they would be enough to take down Spider-man, but his expectations were too high.
"A job you could have attempted yourself, except you chose the cowardly way and used them to do your dirty work." Spider-man remarks, still trying to catch his breath.
"At this point, it looks like I'm going to have to get my hands messy, and since you went through two battles, I doubt you will fair well against me. The master of illusion!" Mysterio boats assume that this will be an easy fight.
"We will see about that, whoa!" As Spider-man prepares himself, two mechanical arms crash from the floor, one grabbing him by the neck and throwing his body to the side.
"Oh no." Mysterio backs up in fear with Spider-man in a daze. He looks up to see what attacked him, only to see a sight that would come from nightmares.
"Is that Ock?" Spidey struggles to say. Both he and Mysterio see Doc Ock, but now he's bonded with the Carnage symbiote turning him into what one could call Monster Ock. This new form of Octavius, now fueled with rage and anger, has his sight set on the master of illusion first for putting the mind control device on him and doesn't have plans to let him go quickly.
"No doctor, stay back, ahhhh!" Mysterio falls back, pleading for his life, but before Monster Ock can go for the kill, he's hit in the back by a yellow beam that Spider-man instantly recognizes. "No need to throw a wobbly."
"Spider-woman!?" Spider-man yelps, seeing Spider-woman jump to his side to help him.
"You didn't think I would let you do this alone, did you?" Spider-Woman leaps over by Spidey's side and helps him to his feet.
"Wait, if you are here, then the Avengers must be close by to help. With those two now bonded, I can use all the help I can get." Spider-man expresses not caring about admitting he needs more assistance in this battle.
Spider-Woman flinches over having to bring down his high hopes. "So about that, I might not have called them."
Spider-man assumes he got hurt a little more than he thought because he can't believe what he just heard. "You what!?"
"I know this isn't the best time to explain, but long story short, I figure you could handle this operation on your own without a big team coming, yet I wanted to make sure you were okay." Spider-woman quickly explains, hoping to keep him from getting more upset.
As if time becomes slow for a moment, hearing the brief explanation makes Spider-man speechless, processing the fact that she believes he could win without earth's mightiest heroes. "Jessica." Before he can say any more, his Spider-sense activates, and he sees a metal arm aiming toward Spider-woman. "Watch out!"
Spider-woman can't react fast enough as the arm makes its way toward her, so Spider-man pushes her out of the way and takes on the hit. Spider-woman instantly charges at Monster ock, only for him to grab her by the throat with his crawls and slam her to the ground.
"No!" Spider-man shouts, performing a spinning kick at him, catching the Monster off guard.
"Destroy!" Monster Ock roars, now set on destroying his nemesis once and for all.
"I want to get Jessica and me out of here, but I can't with Ock acting like this, so I need to get him weak first." Spider-man thinks to himself, remembering that the sonic generator is still active. Taunting the Monster to approach him, Monster Ock charges at Spider-man, with the hero jumping backward over the machine, causing it to stun the symbiote, who returns to use the arms to destroy it, causing mini explosions to take place in the room.
"The place will blow soon; we need to get out of here!" Spider-man grabs Spider-woman by her side as an entry into the air vent opens up so the two can escape.
"Jessica, I don't know if you can hear me, but I need you to wake up from sleepy land as soon as possible. Not saying I don't like carrying you, but it would help the process of escaping this place." Spider-man mutters, for he can only swing with one arm while holding Jessica's waist to keep her from falling.
Groaning, Spider-man talks about speaking his mind about his inner feelings towards Jessica. "I guess since we have a little alone time, I might as well speak what's on my mind since you are still cold. Seeing you come for me by yourself caught me off guard because I assumed you would do what I suggested and get the Avengers. Then your explanation of why you didn't contact them is even more surprising due to our last talk."
Spider-man thinks back to when Venom took over Spider-woman and told him why she was scouting him, and the mixture of emotions came out between shock that the Avengers wanted him on the team with Jessica, not on board with the idea. "I will admit, even though you hurt me by lying, I might have been a bit harsh the last time. Mainly because I grew to have feelings for you in the short time we spent together. Like you made me feel important, like the time Jameson was getting on my case, you talked me out of being negative, and your personality seemed to mix well with mine, and how can I deny how beautiful you are? I guess what I want to say is, are you kidding me!?"
Spider-man is cut off by the horrible sound of Monster Ock's metal arms clanging to the walls yelling, "It's. Not. Over. Yet!"
"Move it, Spidey, move it!" Spider-man has no choice but to swing faster than earlier between not dealing with Ock and the rising explosion coming behind them. The race to the exit grows intense, but through pure determination to keep himself and Jessica safe, Spider-man swings hards toward the last section of the sewer of the flames, consuming Monster Ock.
"Ock! Wow, after all that, the symbiote saved him." Spider-man looks down and notices the Carnage Symbiote weakly makes its way to the scientist. Knowing it wouldn't be heroic to leave him down there, Spider-man manages to hold Ock and Jessica to the exit as he realizes he's surrounded by open water while the facility is blowing up around him. "You got to joking. Well, the perfect end for a perfect day."
"Huh, what the?" Spider-man turns around to see a hovering car approaching him with none other than Captain America driving, followed by Black Cat and Venom hitching a ride.
"Grab on!" Venom helps Spider-man bring Ock and Jessica on board and make their way from the pending doom of the facility.
"It's a good thing Black Cat gave me a call son." Captain America express to Spidey concerning how he was able to find them.
"Looks like just in time." Spider-man cheers, reacting calmly to the fact that he's interacting with Captain America.
Meanwhile, Venom is having a fanboy moment as he proceeds to ask, "Hey, Spidey, can you get us Captain America's autograph?"
"Oh, brother." Spider-man groans with annoyance over the idea of that request.
*Sometime later*
After a few hours of recovering, Jessica walks up to a room she's been in before but is a bit confused about how she got there.
"Jess, how are you feeling?" The voice of Peter wakes her a little more.
"Peter?" She gently asks, getting a clearer view of her surroundings.
"The one and only. Don't worry; I took you back to my room to rest up, and we won, thankfully. When you passed out, I dragged us from that near-death experience. Mysterio and Ock are in jail though there is no sign of Cletus; while it's been nerve-racking not knowing if he's alive, I will take the wins I can." Peter explains the events that took place.
Jessica's body relaxes more now that she knows everything is okay. "I'm glad you are okay."
"Me? I'm not the one who tried to battle the nightmare at symbiote city version of Doc Ock." Peter points out feeling more concerned about Jessica's well-being than himself.
She raises an eyebrow and questions him back saying, "Didn't you have to fight him and Cletus separately beforehand?"
"Yeah?" Peter mutter remembering that part of the battle.
"Well, that's why I was worried seeing you half beat up like that." She states, finishing her point.
"I can admit I felt the same toward you after you got knocked out." Peter rubs the back of his neck, his attention letting more of his soft side out.
Jessica notices the tone shift, thinks back to a specific unresolved conversation, and feels now is the best time to try and bring closure to it. "Oh, I bet you were considering you have a way with words while getting me away from danger."
Peter looks at Jessica with confusion until she explains, "Despite being out of consciousness, I overhear your speech about me. I tried to get myself up, but my eyes weren't cooperative."
"You heard everything I said!?" Peter's face becomes bright red over the revelation.
"Most of it, though I understand why you would be upset with me somewhat eavesdropping. If it means anything to you or helps everything I said in our last conversation, I meant it and still do." Jessica reiterates, hoping that it will ease the tension between the two.
"Then why kept all of that from me until the last minute?" Spider-man questions sound less angry than last time.
"I honestly don't have a valid reason for not telling you when my feelings started changing for you compared to my initial impression, but please believe me when I say I did have plans of telling you everything. I think with this fog issue, and the whole you being framed happened so fast that I wasn't sure when it would be the right time during all that." Jessica answers by being as truthful as she can. If she could go back and redo things, Jessica might have told him before Venom came into the situation, yet that's the past.
Peter feels her response is valid and can appreciate that she isn't making excuses and owning up to her actions. "True, that would fall into the cliche tell your crush while in danger your true feelings trope. If we are both being truthful now, remember when I was starting to tell you why I needed to do this alone because of reasons I didn't explain?"
Jessica nods to let him speak. "To finish, the reason is that despite how angry I was, the thought of you getting hurt or something like the Venom situation would have distracted me. Not just cause it was the hero thing but because I couldn't turn off the feelings I developed for you. Now that this is over, I don't know how to proceed between you and me because while part of me wants you, it still hurts a bit what you did." Spider-man expresses sadly.
Jessica's heart skips when Peter returns his feelings for her even after what she did. "Peter, I'm truly sorry, and you deserve better than what I put you through. Please believe that if you get me a chance to win back your heart, I will do that, but if you feel I should leave you alone, I will respect that too." She pleads her case one last time, ready to embrace his choice.
To her surprise, Peter reveals a warm smile and places a hand on her shoulder saying, "No need to be concerned about that since you already won my heart, and I forgive you. With that said, you will have to make it up for me and show me that you are truly into both sides of me."
The apology instantly breaks Jessica, for she reaches her arm his neck and hugs him tightly. "Whatever it takes to prove myself, I'm willing to do so. Regarding making up, I know I have a lot to do with some ideas in mind; starting by doing this hopefully will help."
"Do what?" Peter is already thrown off by trying to comfort the crying Jessica to the where he completely freezes when she slightly pulls away to meet his lips to kiss him deeply. Once his brain reboots, Peter closes his eyes and kisses her back as any negative emotion towards Jessica is replaced with genuine feelings for her rising on the surface. Meanwhile, Jessica can't help but smile now that she can taste Peter's lips again, making everything seem right again.
Needing to catch their breath, Peter, still in a daze, speaks first stating, "Yeah, more of those should help eliminate your debt."
Jessica instantly giggles at the cute reaction and proceeds to kiss him someone more until they both hear someone say, "I guess it's about time you two kiss and made up."
"Aunt May!" Peter yells with him, and Jessica's face turns bright red, realizing that Aunt May walked in on them during their passionate session.

Author notes: I know it's been forever, but I finally got myself to bring an update to this story. The challenge, other than life getting the best of me, was being stuck on who the reveal should be and overthinking it, so I say this was better than nothing.
The next update might be the final chapter depending on what happens, but if so, I plan to ensure enough Peter x Jessica moments to take place. Happy new year everyone, and I'm looking forward to the Spider-man content we are getting between across the spider-verse and Marvel's Spider-man2!
