The Invincible Spider-Man

Chapter 83: Spider-Verse- Part 1

The man looked around the bright neon lights of Times Square, as some onlookers stared at him.

"That some Spider-Man and Ghost Rider cosplay?" asked one of them inquisitively, taking a picture of the skull on his chest. The man swiveled to the left and swung away to a taller building, leaving the onlookers stunned.

The red and blue figure gracefully landed, as he pressed a device on his gauntlet.

"Locate Peter Parker. Earth 9180," he said, as the gauntlet lit up. A light flashed in the eyes of his mask, as a mini waypoint showed up, east of his direction.

"Parker, Peter located. Empire State University," said a robotic voice from the gauntlet, as the man swung towards the location.

"This is so weird, the buildings are so…low. No flying cars and I can actually see the ground!" he exclaimed to himself, as he began to run across a wall before leaping off of it and backflipping into another swing.

Spider-Man sat on a stone archway that overlooked Empire State Park, as he scrolled through his phone.

"The Deep End…a nightclub in the Upper West Side…yeah this seems way too posh for my taste, but I haven't hung out with Harry much since he came back. I might as well go for an hour. Plus, MJ is gonna be there," he told himself when all of a sudden his Spider-Sense began to tingle.

Except, this wasn't the typical, sharp sting that he'd feel inside his brain. No, this one felt weirdly…calming? A confused Peter stood up and turned around, only to see the other red and blue figure standing across him on the archway.

"Peter? Peter Parker?" asked the figure. Spider-Man immediately jumped into defensive mode.

"Who's that? Who are you?" he asked, trying to play dumb.

"Okay, you don't need to play dumb with me. My name is Miguel O'Hara, and I need your help," replied the figure.

"Right…you can meet me at Comic-Con this year, but get some better cosplay, too much blue, not enough red," replied Spider-Man, commenting on the metallic, yet spandex-looking suit the man wore.

"This is going to sound crazy, but I'm Spider-Man. From an alternate Earth, in the year 2099," explained Miguel. Spider-Man stood for a second, then burst out laughing.

"Right buddy, I have no clue where you got all this from, or who this "Peter Parker" is, but I'm taking you back to Ravencroft," said Spider-Man, as he shot a web towards Miguel. At near lightspeed, Miguel did a corkscrew and dodged the web.

"Well, you're skilled," remarked Spider-Man.

"We really don't have time for this. Can I please just explain myself?" suggested Miguel.

"Right. Maybe next time when you're wearing a straitjacket," said Peter, as he shot more webs at Miguel, who dodged all of them in quick succession. Miguel then pressed a button on his web shooter, as a web shot out and hit Peter directly in his chest with extreme force, sending him flying off of the arch.

"WOAH!" exclaimed Spider-Man, as he hit the ground and tumbled back onto his feet. "You recreated my webbing too?" he asked.

"I didn't "recreate" it. I made some…futuristic improvements," replied Miguel, as Peter got to his feet. Strangely, his Spider-Sense still wasn't tingling.

"Yeah I know, your sense isn't doing its thing," said Miguel, much to Peter's surprise.

"How did you?" asked Peter, before Miguel pressed a button on his left gauntlet. A hologram seemed to project itself from his palm.

"I'm truly from the year 2099, in a universe where instead of Oscorp, Alchemax was the giant responsible for my enemies. New York is well…different," said Miguel, as a hologram of what seemed to be a cyberpunk New York showed up.

"Woah," gasped Peter. "If you actually are who you say you are, why are you here?" asked Spider-Man.

"The Multiverse is ending, and it's thanks to an enemy of ours. Well, an enemy that most Spider-People share," replied Miguel.

"Wait, "Spider-People?" You're telling me there's more like you?" asked Peter.

"Oh, a lot more," smirked Miguel, as he aimed his gauntlet, and a blue portal seemed to open itself up.

"Ready, Spider-Man?" asked Miguel. Peter sighed and shrugged.

"Can't go a few months without some Multiverse shenanigans, can I?" asked Peter, as the duo jumped in.

Peter found himself floating down what looked like a blue tunnel, shaped like a tube. He seemed to be moving at the speed of light as he tried to look around him. Worlds seemed to whizz by them by the millisecond. He caught a glimpse of what looked like a cel-shaded New York, and one that looked like New York was upside down.

The end of the tube spat him out into a room. Peter tumbled down, whereas Miguel landed on his feet. Spider-Man stood up and dusted his knees, only to for his eyes to be struck with awe. He looked around and realized he was in a white and blue room, with what looked like futuristic technology.

"Welcome to 2099…and our home base," said Miguel.

"Woah…it's…wow," said Peter, speechless as he began to walk around. The floor seemed like it made no sound when he walked, as orange lights lined the walls. There seemed to be a chamber with another blue portal being held steady, behind a glass wall.

"I think you should meet the others," said Miguel, as he led Peter through a door, to what seemed to be a large conference room. As soon as the two walked in, they were met with what looked to be around 50 or 60 people, all dressed as some variation of Spider-Man.

"Is that him?"
"The one Morales and Madame told us about?"
"No way,"

Peter stared around as conversation began to ensue. Just then, one of the Spider-Men walked out of the large gathering, and Peter instantly recognized who it was.

"Miles?" asked Peter.

"Peter! Glad you're here, we really need your help," he said. Miles seemed taller and more muscular, and his suit seemed to be a darker black and a brighter shade of red.

"Wait, what is going on? Who are all of these people?" asked Peter. The Spider-People took off their masks, and Peter's jaw dropped to the floor.

Some of them looked exactly like him, some seemed unfamiliar. Some looked like Steve Rogers, others like the Wolverine.

"Wolverine is Spider-Man?!" exclaimed Peter in surprise, as the yellow and black-shaded Spider-Man extended three claws from his knuckles.

"Yeah, and there are many others. The point is that Madame Web requested me to specifically bring you here," replied Miles, confusing Peter even more as he looked around.

"Madame Web? Yeah, you've completely lost me," replied Peter, still stunned by the various Spider-Men around him.

"Think we should take him to see her?" asked Miguel, as Miles nodded.

"Follow me," said Miles, as he pressed a button on a similar-looking gauntlet that Miguel had, this time opening a green portal. Peter and Miles both jumped in.

Peter found himself thrown into what looked like liminal space, only this time it seemed to be a dark green, almost turquoise color. There were no solid walls, so it seemed as if the space went on for miles. In front of him was a massive web.

"Okay, this isn't creepy at all," said Peter. He noticed that parts of the web were turning black, around the edges.

"I know this seems insane, but you gotta believe me on this. This is literally life-changing," said Miles.

"Sounds like you're going to sell me essential oils," joked Peter, still staring at the web. Just then, a woman in a wheelchair suddenly appeared from the darker areas of the space. There was a blindfold around her eyes, and she wore a red outfit with an elongated white spider symbol.

"Peter Parker of Earth 9180?" asked Madame Web. Peter looked at Miles, who gave him a reassuring look.

"That's me," said Peter, a little reluctantly. Madame Web sat in front of the massive web.

"I assume you have many questions. I am here to answer what you wish to seek, as well as inform you of your mission ahead," said Madame Web, a stern look on her face.

"Right, okay. So why are alternate versions of Spider-People all assembled together? And what exactly do I have to do with all of this?" asked Spider-Man.

"As I am sure you know, the Multiverse has infinite possibilities. With infinite possibilities come infinite dangers, such as Incursions, when two Earths collide with each other. Your Earth just went through that. This, however, is different," explained Madame Web.

"An enemy of yours, from an alternate universe, has ascended to a godlike status. Let me show you," said Madame Web, gesturing for him to come closer. Peter walked up to her as she touched his forehead.

His eyes went wide as he began to see a vision.

"Woah, where am I?" asked Spider-Man, as he found himself in an orange-tinted, barren landscape. Madame Web was standing next to him.

"This is an Earth where an Incursion occurred, an Incursion of cosmic proportions. However, one of your enemies somehow managed to absorb all of that energy into himself, turning him into…a God," said Madame Web, as Peter turned around and saw a massive explosion occur.

Out of the explosion, walked a large, 7-foot-tall figure. His skin was all black and seemed to be made of ooze, and he had a tongue the size of a snake. Peter immediately felt like the wind was knocked out of him, as his hair stood on the edge and he was paralyzed with fear.

"V-Venom…" gasped Peter, while Madame Web nodded in acknowledgment. That's when Venom began to change. The symbiote logo on his chest turned into a dark red, and his huge teeth seemed to change back to a human's, but still as large as before.

The symbiote seemed to cover him up like armor, as he let out an inhumane roar that Peter had never heard of.

"This version of Venom…he discovered how to travel the Multiverse, and has been killing different Spiders from across the Multiverse to exact revenge. It's why the Web of Destiny is tainted,"

"Why me? I could barely defeat Venom when he was simply…Venom! This is him on symbiote steroids," protested Peter, as he saw the new version of Venom.

"It's not just you. It's you and a few others who I had a vision of. You all stand the best chance of defeating Knull. Some are already here, some need to be found before Knull gets to them," explained Madame Web.

"Knull?" asked Peter.

"It's what Venom calls himself. He left some Spiders entrails twisted to spell out his name," explained Madame Web, as the vision finally ended. Peter found himself back in the same room, Miles by his side.

"Please Peter, we need your help to stop Knull," pleaded Madame Web. Peter looked at her, then back at Miles, and then at the Web of Destiny, which seemed to get tainted even further. Spider-People were being killed by the minute.

"Okay. I'm in," said Peter.

"Right, so there's a total of about 10 of us that, according to Madame Web, are instrumental in taking down Knull. Madame Web gave me the number of the Earth each of them are from, and this should help us track their specific frequency," explained Miguel to Peter, as he held up a detector.

"If they're here, it should beep," said Miguel, as he switched on the radar, which immediately started beeping.

"Well, that makes our job easier," commented Miles, as the trio followed the beeping. Most of the Spider-People were standing in smaller clusters, talking to each other about their worlds and families.

The detector seemed to beep fastest to one person. A woman in what looked to be a white spandex outfit, black from the bottom and with purple undertones running along her arm. Her outfit also had a white hoodie.

"Hey…guys," said the woman, as she looked at the beeper.

"Ahem, right miss. We need you to come with us," said Miguel, rather sternly. Miles rolled his eyes before he walked up to her.

"You're Spider-Woman, right? Of Earth…1616?" asked Miles, looking at the detector.

"That's me. What do you need me for?" she asked.

"Well, Madame Web specifically wants you to join us in fighting Knull. Something about us having the highest chance of defeating him," said Miles.

"Is it just the four of us? Because I doubt those are good odds…" chuckled the woman nervously.

"Well, no. There are others, but we need to go get them from their respective universes, like how we got Peter here. I'm Miles, by the way. This is Miguel," said Miles, gesturing to the two beside him.

The woman's eyes went wide. "You're Peter? Peter…Parker?" she asked, her breath getting caught in her throat.

"Yeah…do I know you?" asked Peter. Spider-Woman hesitated but shook her head.

"I don't think you do. And if you guys don't mind, I'd rather keep my identity anonymous, for now at least," she said, taking a lightning-quick glance at Peter.

"Okay, no worries about that. Should we get the other Spider-People?" asked Miguel, looking at the four of them.

"Yep. Let's split up and look for them, so we get them quicker," said Peter.

"Got it. Peter, go with Spider-Woman. Miles and I will go and get the others separately," explained Miguel, handing Peter and Spider-Woman one of the gauntlets. "Just input the Earth number into it,"

"Got it," said Peter. As he input Earth-3102 and a blue portal opened up.

"Shall we?" asked Peter.

"Yep," replied Spider-Woman, a hint of nervousness in her voice.

The portal spat out Spider-Man and Spider-Woman into the street. Only this time, the street was entirely empty. There was not a single car in sight, and foliage seemed to be oozing from every crack in the abandoned concrete buildings.

"New York? But it looks completely…abandoned," commented Spider-Woman, looking at the overturned cars all around them and the moss that covered the street.

"What the hell happened here?" asked Peter, as his Spider-Sense began to tingle.

"Uh-oh," said Spider-Woman, as she looked back at Peter. That's when they both heard some sort of grunting behind an overturned taxi. A grunting, followed by what sounded like a screech.

"I got a bad feeling about this," said Peter, as the two approached the car. Just then, the source of the voices seemed to walk out from behind the taxi, his back turned to them.

"Oh thank God it's a guy. Uh, hi! Any idea where we can find Spider-Man?" asked Peter. The man twitched, as he turned around, only to reveal a half-decomposing skull.

"WHAT THE-" exclaimed Spider-Woman. That's when they heard more grunting, and another one of them seemed to crawl out from under another car. This time their face was a little intact, but their bones were clearly visible under their decomposing skin.

Many more of those creatures began to creep towards the duo, snarling as they bare their blood and skin-covered teeth. Just then, one of them let out a whine and frantically ran up to the two of them.

"AAH!" yelled Peter, jumping over the creature. Another one leaped at Spider-Woman, but she managed to web it down.

"Zombies?!" she exclaimed, as she kicked away one of them who was going for Peter's legs. Peter kicked one in the face before kneeing another in the chest, then webbing out everyone when they were done.

The duo jumped onto the top of a bus, as more zombies began to show up. There were about 50 of them, slowly creeping their way to them.

"Look out!" yelled out a voice, as the two looked overhead. A man swung and flipped high above them and landed on another car. He held two machine guns in both his hands and straps of ammo around his chest. He seemed to be bald and wore a Spider-Man suit that was torn at the sleeves, and the mask was just a bandana around his lower face.

He opened fire on the zombies, riddling them with bullets until all that came out of his guns was smoke emanating from the muzzle. He blew on the muzzle and stared at the two of them.

"Well? Didn't know I had cosplayers," said the man, chuckling.

"Uh, not exactly. We're Spider-People from different dimensions, and we need your help," said Peter. "I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you're the Spider-Man of this dimension?"

"Not Spider-Man anymore. I'm a Survivor," said the man, taking off his mask, revealing himself to be Peter Parker, only with a scar across his cheek and a shaved head.

"Right, Survivor Spider-Man then. We really need your help," said Spider-Woman, bringing him up to speed about Knull as well as Madame Web's prophecy.

"All of this just sounds crazy enough to be true," replied Survivor Spider-Man.

"So, are you going to come with us?" asked Peter. Survivor Spider-Man sighed.

"My world went to shit years ago. This world is more or less doomed, but I can't just leave it like that. If I can save another world from a fate like that, even if it's just one, then I'm not just going to leave that opportunity hanging," he replied, taking a deep breath.

Spider-Woman aimed her gauntlet as the blue portal opened again. Survivor Spider-Man nodded as the three of them jumped in.

The trio jumped back into the room where they had opened the portals and left. Miguel and Miles were already there, with their own companions.

"Survivor Peter, meet Miguel and Miles, Spider-Man 2099 and the Ultimate Spider-Man," introduced Peter, as he shook everyone's hand.

"Gotta say, Peter, the bald look suits you. Also, meet Peter Parquagh. Spider-Knight," said Miles. From behind Miles stepped out what seemed to be a knight, in red and blue armor. The spider logo was also on his chest.

"I heard about the threat to the Multiverse. Rest assured, I shall aid in quelling it," said Parquagh, puffing out his chest.

"And as for me," said Spider-Man 2099, gesturing to a Spider-Man standing next to him.

"Uh, hi," said the Spider-Man.

"Hey there. Do we just call you Spider-Man 2?" asked Peter. The man took off his mask, only for everyone to screech and jump back. Miguel's Spider-Man had the face of a spider, as 6 more arms extended from his back.

"Aww man, I knew this was going to happen," said the version of Spider-Man, through the pincers on his face. "They call me Man-Spider," he continued.

"Well, that's…interesting," said Spider-Woman. "Miguel, is that all of them?" asked Peter.

"We're missing two. We better go get them as fast as we can too," said Miguel.

"Uh, Peter, can I talk to you for a second?" asked Spider-Woman, lightly tugging at his arm.

"Sure," said Peter, as she pulled him away. The rest of the group walked to Madame Web's chamber.

"What's up?" asked Peter.

"I didn't want to do this, but I guess I really have to," said Spider-Woman, sounding like she was on the verge of crying. She took off her hood and mask, only for Peter's jaw to tremble and fall to the ground.

"Gwen?"

That's part one of Spider-Verse! Let me know what you think about it, and stay tuned for more!

Ooo-wee, have things gotten kind of bad? School's super burdening with like 100 projects to finish and I'm just going through some issues relating to self-esteem and accepting myself in general, but I am going to see a therapist about this stuff soon, so I hope that goes well. Other than that, things will hopefully go smoothly!
