The Invincible Spider-Man

Chapter 89- Looped Up

Peter came to in what looked like the boiler room of a ship, his eyes still groggy and refusing to open up. When he did, he found himself staring at the muzzle of an AK-47.

Holding the gun was one of the goons in the ancient Japanese mask. Another one was holding a pistol directly to his head.

"Wow guys…you really make a fella feel like John Wick," grunted Spider-Man, finding himself unable to break free from the chains he was shackled to.

"Don't bother trying. These guys hit you with a sedative, the same dosage that puts rhinos to sleep for hours, days even," said a voice from the shadows. Out walked a tall man in a business suit, his forehead large and flat.

"Buddy, anyone ever tell you that flat tops went out of fashion in like the 70s? You're a couple of decades too late," muttered Spider-Man. The man didn't reply, and instead gestured to one of the goons, who slapped the butt of the gun across Peter's face.

Blood spat out of his mouth in his mask. "I assume you're Hammerhead? Don't ask why I guessed that, you'll most definitely take offense," replied Spider-Man.

Hammerhead chuckled, as he pulled up a chair and sat in front of Spider-Man, staring directly into his lenses.

"You know, I could just take your mask off right now? Find out who you are, get everyone you care about right here, do inhuman things to them…well, inhuman by your standards, and then crush their skulls right in front of you?" asked Hammerhead.

The sentence sent a chill down Peter's spine, as he gulped back the blood that had pooled in his mouth, and he realized just how bad the situation was. Hammerhead clapped his hands and began to laugh.

"Unfortunately, my business partner would like that. If it were up to him, he'd be using your body as a welcome mat. Well, good for you, I've got other plans," said Hammerhead.

The memory flood back into Peter's brain, as he remembered how he ended up here.

"Martin Li…what did you do to him?" asked Spider-Man. Hammerhead gestured at the men to clear the room, before walking up to Peter's arm, and breaking the chain that had shackled him.

"I didn't do anything, my friend. Now, I told him that he can't kill you…" said Hammerhead, before grabbing the wooden chair and slamming it straight across Spider-Man's face, shattering the chair into pieces.

"But that also means I can have some fun with you," chuckled Hammerhead. Peter tried to get up, his head ringing. Hammerhead grabbed him by the leg and threw him back to the wall, shattering it.

Spider-Man slumped to the ground, the effects of the sedative still not having worn off. Hammerhead chuckled as he grabbed Spider-Man by the chest, and headbutted him.

Peter's neck jerked back and his left lens shattered. He closed his eyes to prevent them from getting damaged, relying on his Spider-Sense to break out of Hammerhead's grasp.

Spider-Man tried shooting a web on Hammerhead's face, only to realize his web shooters were missing.

"Oh no," thought Spider-Man, as Hammerhead charged at him. Peter rolled out of the way, with Hammerhead charging straight into the wall. His head collided with a wall with a metallic clang.

"Man, you give hard-headed a whole different meaning!" remarked Spider-Man, jumping onto Hammerhead's back and punching his jaw from behind.

"Can't punch his skull, I'll end up breaking every bone in my wrist," thought Spider-Man, grabbing Hammerhead's head and steering him towards another villain.

"That's enough, bug!" shouted Hammerhead, grabbing him and lifting him up in the air.

"He's gonna "Bane" me…" thought Spider-Man, terror crossing his face.

Rapidly, Hammerhead brought Spider-Man down, his back crashing on his titanium head. Peter screamed out loud as Hammerhead threw him back to the ground.

Spider-Man tried to crawl away, noting that nothing seemed to be broken. "Thank God for super strength," he thought, groaning as he struggled to stand up.

Hammerhead reached into the dark and pulled out a sledgehammer, ominously walking up towards Peter. He lifted it up over his shoulder and slammed it on Spider-Man's chest.

Peter coughed up blood through his torn mask and began to wheeze as if he couldn't breathe in any air. Hammerhead swung the sledgehammer and hit him across the face, sending him tumbling down the hull.

Hammerhead charged at him, while Spider-Man weakly pulled out a pipe from the wall and slammed it on Hammerhead's head, only for the pipe to bend as it hit his forehead.

"Fuck," groaned Spider-Man. Hammerhead swung his head and hit Spider-Man's side, who got knocked across the room and crumpled to the ground.

"That's enough," said a voice from the opened door, which Peter instantly recognized. Hammerhead took out a handkerchief and wiped some of the bloodstains off of his suit.

Martin Li stepped into the room, much to Spider-Man's dismay. He nodded at Hammerhead, who scoffed and walked out, slamming the door behind him.

"Mr. Li…why…?" coughed Spider-Man, unable to sit up. Li sighed as he sat down next to Spider-Man, offering him a bottle of water.

"You wouldn't understand. But we need your help," said Li, solemnly. Spider-Man scoffed as he nursed his ribs.

"Look, we don't want to do this forcefully," replied Li, his eyes turning white.

"Yeah, well you're gonna have to do it forcefully because there's no way I'm helping you and Flat-Top Freddy there," replied Spider-Man, with contempt. Li sighed, as he stood up.

A dark energy began to take over him, a wave of black and white energy. In an instant, Li had turned into Mister Negative. He chuckled and grabbed Spider-Man's wrist.

The energy began to flow from Mister Negative and into Spider-Man. Peter screamed as his hand began to burn and his vision began to blur.

He opened his eyes, only to find all the color from the world sapped away, leaving nothing but a monotone shade of black and white, with hints of grey. It was as if he was thrown into a noir film.

He found himself in what looked like an office. An office that was all too familiar to him.

"This is where you defeated Wilson Fisk," said Mister Negative, suddenly appearing behind Spider-Man. Peter jumped back and shot a web, only for it to go through him.

"Yeah. And history is gonna repeat himself with you," retorted Peter. His suit looked similar to Mister Negative: Inverted colors and flowing with dark energy.

"You didn't let me finish. Defeating Fisk let a far worse enemy attack New York. His son, the Rose, put the entire city into martial law," replied Mister Negative. In a flash, the setting changed entirely, and Peter found himself in Central Park, during his first confrontation with Rose.

"Yeah and I put him away too," replied Spider-Man.

Mister Negative sighed. "Perhaps my point wasn't clear," he said, snapping his fingers. Peter blinked and was suddenly in a black-and-white version of Times Square. Above him hovered a figure that made his blood boil and run cold at the same time.

"The Green Goblin. Your first confrontation with him was here. Two officers lost their lives," said Mister Negative. Peter swallowed hard.

"Then, he killed Captain George Stacy, leaving his daughter without a father," continued Mister Negative, and the background changed to the Brooklyn Bridge, where George was slain by Osborn.

Peter balled up his fist and rushed at Li, throwing a punch at him. However, his fist went straight through his face, almost like a hologram.

"Of course, you decided to make sure he wouldn't be alone. Just a couple of years later, you made sure his daughter would join him!" mocked Mister Negative. Peter turned around and saw himself cradling Gwen's body.

"No…" he said, as he ran up to her.

"Let's not forget that your eagerness to have friends in your line of work cost the life of good men, like the Spot," said Mister Negative, pointing to another corner where Dr. Ohnn's body was lying, bruised, and beaten.

"And how can we forget that your recklessness with the Black Suit not only led to the death of Captain Jean Dewolff, but also terrorized so many innocent people!" shouted Li, a projection of Venom jumping from the ground and looming over Spider-Man.

Suddenly, every villain that Spider-Man had faced materialized out of thin air, all with a smirk on their faces.

"No matter what you do, everything bad always leads back to you," said Mister Negative.

Spider-Man held his ground, as every enemy descended onto him.

"Captain, we're getting reports of a shootout. Theatre district," said Detective Macendale. "The perpetrators are described as "men in suits armed with AK-47s" he continued.

"That's definitely Hammerhead's men. Any word from Spider-Man?" asked Yuri, as the two of them walked out of the precinct.

"None. Apparently, he hasn't been seen in about…" started Macendale, checking his watch.

"In about?" asked Yuri.

"Two days," responded Macendale. A look of worry crossed Yuri's face.

"Well, wherever he is, let's hope he has a good reason to suddenly go missing. We've lost our grip on this city and we're lucky that the media knows nothing about it," commented Yuri, the two of them getting in a police car.

"If the media finds out, it'd be an apoca-shitstorm," replied Macendale, loading his gun. Yuri raced through the streets to the location of the shootout. Cars had been overturned and at least 10 of Hammerhead's men were shooting at the police barricading the place.

Before Macendale even got out of the car, Yuri had rushed out and begun shooting at the assailants.

"Get down!" she yelled at Macendale, who dived behind a barricade and returned fire. However, their pistols were no match for the weaponry being used by Hammerhead's men.

"Where the hell is the spider when you need him?" asked Macendale, to himself.

Peter crashed through a window and scrambled behind a desk, clutching his shoulder and breathing heavily through his mask. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, before peeking his head out.

"Spider, spider, burning bright…" said a characteristic Russian voice. In an instant, a spear flew through the air and landed on the ground, missing Peter's face by a hair's breadth.

Spider-Man spun around and saw Kraven the Hunter standing on the desk, his body completely opaque and his fur suit was inverted black and white as well. He jumped down from the desk and rushed at Spider-Man, who weakly jumped to the side.

Just as Spider-Man dodged, however, a mechanical tail burst through the wall and wrapped around his chest, smashing him through the brick wall and out of the building.

"We finally get a rematch, Spider…" hissed Scorpion, tightening his grip. Miraculously summoning whatever energy he had left, Spider-Man broke free of Scorpion's grip and began falling to the ground.

Before he could hit the ground, however, a big wheel crashed into him, sending him flying down the street.

"Big Wheel? Seriously?" asked Spider-Man. His Spider-Sense weakly tingled as he leaped out of the way, dodging one of Shocker's blasts. In doing so, however, Gaunt flew at him and slammed his face into the ground.

Spider-Man struggled to break free, only to be thrown towards Rose and Kingpin.

"Oh, it's a family reunion…" groaned Spider-Man. Rose slammed the butt of his gun on the back of Spider-Man's head, while Kingpin lifted him up and slammed him headfirst into the windshield of a car.

Lizard sunk his teeth into Spider-Man's left leg and dragged him out of the car, lobbing him to Doctor Octopus. Octavius wrapped two tentacles around Peter's arms and held him high, only for Slyde to jump in and kick his face. Before Spider-Man could even figure out what was happening, Basilisk scratched him across the chest.

Both Sandman and Hydro-Man rose from the ground, turning their arms into hammers and slamming them directly onto Spider-Man.

Peter lay on the ground, his suit nearly torn to shreds. Blood seemed to soak through every single tear on his suit, and his eyes stung due to the broken lenses.

Before he could get up, Rhino slammed his horn into him and sent him into the air. Electro shot bolts of electricity at him and kept him high in the sky, and finally Vulture swooped in to slam his back into a building.

Man-Wolf and Morbius both crashed through the inside of the wall of the building. They sunk their teeth into him and ripped off pieces of flesh, before throwing him out of the building.

Spider-Slayer extended a tendril to grab Spider-Man, then bring him down onto a car with a thud.

Peter slowly tumbled off of the car, his vision blurring as he heard a hiss. The hiss of something demonic.

Venom approached Peter, who still found someway to get back on his feet.

"Parkerrrr…" growled Venom, slowly approaching him. Just as Spider-Man held his ground, his Spider-Sense flared. Not fast enough to react to it, the Green Goblin swooped in at breakneck speed, ramming his glider into Spider-Man's back.

Peter flew directly towards Venom, who grabbed him by the face and smashed him through a concrete wall. He then threw him in the air, where Green Goblin grabbed him by the neck and threw him back to the ground.

Venom pushed his foot down on Spider-Man's back, holding him down as every enemy he had ever faced surrounded him.

"You'll be lucky to know that this is all in your head, and none of your injuries are real. The pain, however, is just the same," said Mister Negative, wading through the ocean of villains.

"W-What do you want…?" asked Peter.

"To break you. Break your will. It's this close to a fracture," said Mister Negative, as a mask materialized in his outstretched palm.

"Become one of my Inner Demons. Embrace it," he said. Peter looked back to the ground, and then back to Martin, a vengeful look in his eyes.

"One way or another, you will join me. Until then, you're stuck here in your own, personal doom. Enjoy reliving this, over and over and over," said Li, disappearing into thin air.

Venom got off of Spider-Man, and the last thing Peter saw was his open jaw closing around his head.

Spider-Man opened his eyes, only to find himself crashing through the same window of the same office he had found himself in.

"What the…" thought Peter, as he rushed behind a desk, grabbing his aching shoulder and breathing heavily. "Wait a second," he continued.

"Spider, spider, burning bright," said Kraven. Peter looked around the desk to see him, only for the spear to miss him by an inch. Mister Negative's words replayed in his head.

"Enjoy reliving this, over and over and over,"

"Oh shit, it's a loop," said Spider-Man, jumping away from the wall that seemed intact. In only a few seconds though, Scorpion's tail came crashing through, hunting for Spider-Man.

Peter dodged another one of Kraven's attacks and jumped through the window, only to be grabbed by a gigantic Mysterio. Peter tried to wriggle out of Mysterio's grasp, only for Morbius to fly in and grab Peter.

Spider-Man managed to jump away from Morbius and landed on a building, jumping towards another in hopes of escaping.

However, the ground below him gave way, and Sandman rose to the size of a statue above him.

"Oh, come on…" said Spider-Man.

Harry drove to Ryker's prison, showing his ID to the security guard.

"Harry Lyman. I have a meeting here today," said Harry, showing the guard a detailed form that he had signed. The guard carefully examined the form, before handing it back to him.

"Best of luck," said the guard. Harry nodded and drove through the gates, to the entrance of the prison. He parked his car and sighed heavily, getting out of the car and entering the prison.

Another guard stopped him, examining the form.

"Maximum security. A guard will accompany you," said the guard, calling another security guard to escort Harry.

Harry walked past the general population and to the Maximum Security door: A large, titanium door that separated the bad from the worse. The guard swiped a keycard, and the door began to slowly open.

Harry walked past the plexiglass cells holding all the super criminals that Spider-Man had put away. Harry scoffed when he thought about that name. The guard led him to the end of the corridor and to the visitor's center.

He was led into a room that was separated by another plexiglass wall, with two chairs and a telephone on the other end. Norman Osborn sat at the other end of the glass, smirking as he saw Harry enter the room.

Harry sat down and picked up the telephone.

"Harry…Lyman, is it?" asked Norman. Harry scoffed.

"Yeah. It's hard to socialize when your last name is synonymous with that of a terrorist," retorted Harry. Norman chuckled.

"All these years and you still don't see things for yourself," replied Norman, a twinge of disappointment in his tone.

"W-What do you mean?" asked Harry, trying his hardest to stay stoic.

"When your mother died, who was the one who raised you? Who taught you to tie your laces? Who would stay up till 2 in the morning teaching you biology?" asked Norman.

"You were barely a father. Every time I didn't do as well as Peter, you'd call me a disappointment. A failure," said Harry, rage flowing through the telephone.

"And whose fault is that, Harry Osborn? Maybe if Peter were my son, I would have raised him better," scoffed Norman.

"Yeah, well he probably would've just grown up to be an even bigger douche than he already is if he was raised by a piece of shit like you!" yelled Harry. Norman's eyes widened, but almost immediately settled back down once he processed Harry's words.

"Harry…" started Norman. "What's this about Peter being a douchebag?"

"Nothing, he…he comes in with all his self-righteous bullshit and gives me one of those "be a good kid" lectures all while he was screwing MJ right in my house!" protested Harry.

"Are you sure this isn't coming from a place of jealousy?" asked Norman. Harry thought for a second, before sighing.

"Fine, it probably is. I mean, I liked Gwen for years before Peter started dating her in 10th grade. Then Mary Jane came along and she- she's perfect. I've loved her since junior high but never told her. Then after you decided to fuck up both our lives I had to move away. Then you killed Gwen," said Harry, scorn in his voice.

"Why did you do it, dad? Why her?" asked Harry.

"Sometimes, when the Goblin takes over, I'm not in control of myself. So I don't know, maybe it was an impulse decision. Truth is, I don't know why the Green Goblin went after Gwen Stacy," replied Norman.

"Either way, it doesn't matter. Now MJ is with Peter, and I've got no one," said Harry.

"As usual. A disappointment as always," remarked Norman, laughing a bit.

Harry looked back at him, fire in his eyes. "How fucked in the head are you, Norman? Maybe they should increase the volts of electroshock therapy you get on a daily basis!" shouted Harry.

"YES! THAT'S THE OSBORN I RAISED!" shouted Norman, standing up and prompting the guard to intervene.

Harry seemed confused, but Norman seemed to be elated. The guard began to escort Harry out of the room.

"Osborns fight for what belongs to us, Harry. Remember that." Finished Norman, and Harry left the room, scorn filling every cell of his.

Peter crashed through the window, but this time he jumped through the other window, without waiting for Kraven. In an instant, he dodged Mysterio's attack and landed on the roof.

Before Sandman could even lay a hand on him, he leaped off of the roof, avoiding Ringer's attacks and landing back on the ground. However, something unexpected happened.

The ground began to shake, and all of a sudden, Mister Negative rose from the ground, a sword in hand.

"You look tired, Spider-Man," said Li.

"After getting killed like 15 times, you get used to it," replied Peter, though he was aware of the weariness in his voice.

"You're weak enough now, Spider-Man," said Martin, as the mask materialized in front of Peter.

"No, no I'm not," grunted Spider-Man, as he rushed to punch Li. However, he found himself stuck in place, almost in a state of paralysis.

"Your subconscious seems to want to fight back, but your mind has completely given up. Your mind in exhausted, and it's about time I help," said Li, inching closer. With every step, an agonizing pain rang in Peter's head, but he couldn't move his body at all.

"NO!" shouted Peter, the pain getting worse and worse, as Mister Negative placed the Inner Demon mask on Peter's face.

Hammerhead stood out the door, until he finally heard it unlock. Mister Negative stepped out.

"Well, did you do it?" asked Hammerhead.

Mister Negative stepped to the side, and from the darkness of the room walked out Spider-Man, his suit an inverted black and white- the same color scheme as Mister Negative. Both of them had waves of dark energy flowing through them.

Mister Negative and Hammerhead both exchanged a smile.

"Let the fun begin."

Looks like we're getting Negative Spider-Man in the next episode! Stay tuned for that!
