Chapter 12

The next morning, Sango enters her homeroom class. Just seeing her other classmates is not who she's really after. Once seated, she puts on the pin onto her uniform over her school symbol to make it look it's blending in. She then puts on her earrings that Toga lent her. It doesn't take long for Naraku and Kikyo to enter the room. The moment she sees the two, she presses a button on her smartphone to turn the pin camera and earrings on to catch any information that they might speak.

The bell rings to dismiss the students after final period, Sango decides to go to her locker to swap any books. "Oh, Sango. How are you doing?" Naraku's voice made Sango gasps in surprise. "Oh. Hi there." Sango responds back to him without much enthusiasm. "So this much be my exchanged student friend here." Kikyo said as she comes up to them. "Yes. We've met when you arrived." Sango calmly states as she closes her locker. "On the contrary, I've been here before this program was out." Kikyo said to her with her arms crossed.

Sango looks at Kikyo straight into her eye. "Funny. I've been here since kindergarten, and I've never seen you attend to this school up until now." Sango keeps her calm demeanor in check. Naraku looks carefully at Sango. From what he can see so far is not unusual. "Come on, Kikyo. I have to escort you to your next class. You're wasting your time with that impudence." Naraku wraps his arm around Kikyo's shoulder and takes her away. With their backs turned, Sango carefully observes the duo walking away. But then her phone vibrates for a second.

"Sango. Can you hear me?" Toga asks her over the earring. "Yes." Sango whispers back as she walks in the other direction. "Listen to me. For what Kikyo said to you about attending your school was a lie." Toga informs her. Sango nods. "I pretty much expected that." She responds. "Anything else you were able to pick up?" She asks him. Toga is in his office. "For the way of her voice sounded. It seems abnormal." Sango pulls out her smartphone and place it by her ear so no one would expect that she's talking to herself. "What do you mean by that?" She asks him curiously. "I need you to follow them to wherever they're going. But don't get caught." Toga explains to her.

Sango sighs. "I would, but I don't have my driver's license and I don't have a car." She said to him in disappointment since she can't do that task. "I see. I have something that might help." Toga said in an understanding voice. "What is it?" Sango tells him. "Do you know if Naraku or Kikyo have a car of their own?" Toga asks to make sure that his backup plan will work. Sango looks around the student parking lot that has a few cars remaining. She then spots Naraku about to get into his car. "I see Naraku is about to leave." She said to him. "Ok, try to get his license plate and I can track that down." Toga gives her the directions. Sango casually walks up behind the assigned car and stealthily takes snapshot of the license place. She sends it to Toga immediately. "Will that do?" Sango asks him. Toga pulls up the license plate on the monitor and can see it. "I'll take it from here. You can remove the items." Toga smiles on his part.

"But I want you to tell me something, Sango." His voice stops her from taking out of the pin and earrings. "What is it?" Sango asks him quickly. "How was it that you were about to get home last night. I know that you rode with Inuyasha when he brought you, and Miroku to my place." Toga asks to see rather or not Sango remembers the night before. "Oh. Little did I know Miroku had left his car at your house the other day. He gave me a ride home." Sango answers him. Toga goes over the security cameras to see if that was confirmed. After a few minutes, he found out that Miroku indeed left one of his cars at the house. "Ok. I just wanted to make sure you were home safe and sound. Does your parents know about this?" Toga asks her in the end.

Sango walks around the corner of Kagome's street. "Sadly, my mom passed away a few years ago. It's just me, my younger brother and my father." She answers after taking a deep breath. Toga gasps slightly. "I'm sorry. Well, it's up to you if you want to tell them about this or not. I'll see you later." Toga hangs up. Sango puts away her smartphone as well as her pin camera and earrings. She sees the shrine steps up ahead.

Sango knocks onto the door. Mrs. Higurashi opens the door. "Sango dear. What brings you here." She smiles warmly. Sango smiles. "Hello, Mrs. Higurashi. Is Kagome home yet?" She asks the older woman. Mrs. Higurashi slightly frowns. "No, I haven't seen her since yesterday. Do you think you might know where she is? I'm worried."

Just hearing that tone, Sango doesn't know rather or not she should tell her that her daughter is mated to a half demon and has to be with him 24/7. "I thought that she might've been home with you." She lies sadly. There's no way she can tell Kagome's mother about this. "Oh. Do you think you could call her? I tried to a few minutes ago but I didn't get an answer." Mrs. Higurashi asks in concern. Sango nods and picks up her smartphone. She is about to press Kagome's name to call, but instead she's getting a call from her. "Kagome? Kagome? Are you ok?" Asks her best friend.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Where are you? I'm about to come home." Kagome's voice is calm regardless Sango and Mrs. Higurashi's concern. "I'm at your house with your mom." Sango sighs in relief. As such Kagome comes up to the top step of the shrine stairs. Sango smiles. But Mrs. Higurashi runs up to her daughter and embraces her. "Oh, Kagome. Where have you been all this time?" She asks with tears of relief. Kagome is surprised by this. "What are you talking about? I've been with Sango." She said to her mother after she pulls away. She then sees Sango shaking head. "Kagome. I think it's time you tell your mother the truth." Sango suggests to her best.

Mrs. Higurashi escorts the two girls into her kitchen and makes tea for them. "What is she talking about, Kagome? You've been gone since yesterday morning. What happened?" The mother sets the tray down onto the table. Kagome glances at Sango. She can see that there's no way she can keep this newly discovered secret. "Mom, the thing is that I'm someone's mate." Kagome confessed to her mother truthfully.
