The Hero of Magic Vs. The Leviathan

Two weeks had passed since Balthasar had acquired Emiko's transforming clothing. When he finally made his way to Dragoon village, he was disheartened to discover that the Sword Hero, Ren Amaki, had already brought the dragon down. Despite Emiko's impressive progress, having reached level 30, the Magic Hero's party was still far behind the Sword Hero's, with their levels in the fifties. As night fell, the Magic Heroes decided to set up camp, but their rest was abruptly interrupted by a mysterious figure dressed in black, who knelt before them.

"May I assume that you are the Magic Hero?" the figure inquired.

The Magic Hero responded with caution, "Who is asking?"

"I am one of the Shadows of the Queen," the figure answered, her tone betraying a hint of disdain.

The Heroes exchanged wary glances, unsure of the Shadow's intentions. Lillian spoke up, "What is it that you want?"

"The Queen of Melromarc wishes to speak with you," the Shadow replied, "She wishes to discuss the unjust treatment of the Shield Hero." The Shadow's sneer at the mention of the Shield Hero went unnoticed by the Heroes.

Over the course of the following ten days, the Shadow guided the Heroes to a designated meeting point with the Queen. During this time, they bonded, sharing stories and laughter, and in the process, slowly chipping away at the Shadow's hardened exterior. As they walked, they trained and battled together, honing their skills and gaining valuable experience. When they finally arrived at their destination, a vast open area with a towering cliff and a sprawling lake, the Shadow abruptly called for them to stop.

"What's wrong?" the Wolf Demi-Human inquired.

"It's a trap," Balthasar stated, his voice devoid of emotion.

"How can you be sure?" questioned Lillian.

Balthasar replied matter-of-factly, "My Crystal Ball Magic Staff allows me to see into the future and look at specific locations. It also enables me to view someone's memories as long as I have direct contact." Balthasar's gaze fixed on the disguised impostor before them, revealing the true nature of the Shadow they had been following.

As Gray and Lillian reached for their weapons, the Magic Hero spoke up, his tone laced with sarcasm. "You're quite the heavy sleeper for a member of the Three Heroes Church," he remarked, eyeing the intruder suspiciously.

The girl immediately dropped to her knees, bowing before the group and pleading for mercy. "I couldn't do it," she confessed. "Pope Balmus had labeled you as the Devil of Magic, but I see now that you and your companions are not demons in the eyes of God."

Balthasar's gaze hardened as he surveyed the girl. "Don't bother," he said coldly. "She was instructed by the Pope, but he never revealed who hired them to kill us."

The girl's voice trailed off as her body slumped to the ground, the ivory arrow still protruding from her chest. The Heroes looked around, on high alert for any further attacks. Suddenly, the sound of a bowstring being pulled taut caught their attention. Balthasar quickly swiveled his head to locate the source and spotted a church member with a bow, taking aim at them.

Without a moment's hesitation, Gray and Lillian charged toward the assailant with their weapons drawn. Meanwhile, Balthasar rushed to the fallen girl's side, hoping to heal her wounds, but it was too late. The arrow had pierced her heart, and she had taken her final breath.

Balthasar bowed his head in sorrow as the woman whispered a futile apology for deceiving them.

As Balthasar turned to his kitsune, he gave her a nod. "Emiko, it's time to fight," he said, prompting her to transform into her fox form.

"I'm ready, master," Emiko replied, crouching down and bracing for battle.

"Just be careful," Balthasar cautioned before he and Emiko charged toward the man standing in front of an obelisk that was partially submerged in water.

The Church Member had erected a magical barrier around himself and was praying to the stone obelisk. Approaching the man, the Dragonoid activated his Nullification skill, destroying the barrier. As the man continued to pray, a purple seal began to glow beneath him. Balthasar grabbed the man by his collar and pinned him to the ground until a massive blast of water erupted from the lake, causing the man to chuckle.

"What's so funny?" Balthasar demanded, planting his armored boot against the man's head.

"It's the end of you and your party, Magic Devil," the man replied, his voice filled with malice and triumph. Suddenly, a massive serpent burst forth from the lake, its dark blue scales shimmering in the sunlight. The creature had membrane wings, two long taloned arms, and a massive set of teeth. It stood at the edge of the lake, glaring at Balthasar and his party with all four of its black eyes before letting out a fearsome roar, shaking the ground beneath their feet.

Without hesitation, Balthasar grabbed the man and ran, his party close behind him, as the monster unleashed a high-pressure water breath attack. They took cover behind the foliage and the Dragonoid, one of the members in Balthasar's party, began to interrogate the man who had released the monster.

"What the hell did you summon?" Balthasar demanded, slamming the man against a nearby tree.

The man said nothing as he began to recite a spell incantation.

"Nullification," he muttered.

The man's eyes grew wide with horror as he realized his spell had failed.

Frustrated at the man's silence, Balthasar activated his 'Force of Nature' ability, causing his body to be encased in rock. He then gestured towards the creature and said, "All right, why don't you ask the creature yourself?"

With a wave of his hand, Balthasar slowly revealed the man to the monster. Trembling with fear, the man let out a shout.

"ALRIGHT!"

Balthasar's expression turned serious as the Church Member revealed the identity of the monster.

"It's called the Leviathan," she explained. "It was sealed away by the previous Heroes. It has no weakness and can move on land for two hours at a time."

Balthasar's heart sank as he realized the gravity of the situation. They were facing a seemingly unstoppable beast, and they were ill-equipped to handle it.

"It can what now?" he asked, praying he didn't just hear what he thought he heard.

But before he could get a response, the Leviathan attacked, its razor-tipped tail obliterating the trees behind them. Lillian's urgent cry broke through the chaos.

"RUN!"

The entire party bolted away from the amphibious beast, their hearts pounding with fear. Once they had outrun it and slowed it down on land, Balthasar knew he had to act quickly. Using his 'Vine Snare' ability, he pinned the man responsible for summoning the Leviathan to a nearby tree. He then cast 'Hide Mirage' to prevent anyone from coming to the man's aid.

Balthasar knew that the Leviathan was a threat to all who lived in this world, and he needed to stop it at any cost. But he also knew that they needed to be careful - this was a powerful creature, and they were only mortal. With a deep breath, he turned to face the Leviathan, ready to take out such a monstrous beast

The Magic Heroes Party reconvened in the clearing, ready to face the Leviathan. Balthasar bolstered his team's speed and attack power with his spells, casting Fast Speed and Strength Up. As the Leviathan came into view, each member of the party readied their weapons. Gray wielded his Ax Halberd, Lillian gripped a longsword in her right hand and a shortsword in her left, and Emiko lowered her stance with smoke billowing between her teeth while blue fire engulfed her feet and tail tips. Lastly, Balthasar equipped his Tempest Magic Staff, which granted an impressive Equipment Bonus of Ice, Lightning, and Wind Attack +350.

The Leviathan let out a deafening roar, and the Magic Heroes Party braced themselves for battle. Balthasar, the Hero of Magic, cast spells to boost their speed and strength, while Gray, the stalwart warrior, gripped his Ax Halberd tightly. Lillian, the skilled swordswoman, drew her longsword and shortsword, and Emiko, Nine-tailed Kitsune, readied herself for combat with smoke billowing from between her teeth.

As the Leviathan breathed out a high-pressure jet of water, the Magic Heroes Party scattered and evaded the attack. Balthasar attempted to use his Appraisal skill to gauge the creature's strength but was met with shock when he saw that it was of an unknown level.

"We can't afford to underestimate this creature," said Balthasar. "Emiko, I want you to cover Lily as she casts her spells, while Gray and I keep the monster distracted."

"Got it! On it! Okay, Master!" replied Gray, Lily, and Emiko, quickly getting into position.

"Try this," Balthasar said, pointing his staff at the looming Leviathan. "Thunderous Blast!"

Dark clouds gathered overhead, crackling with the power of the spell. With a fierce shout, the Dragonoid released a blast of lightning magic that struck the sea monster, stunning it momentarily.

Seizing the opportunity, the Wolf Demi-Human lunged forward and plunged his sword into the beast's scaled hide, causing it to howl in pain. But the Leviathan quickly regained its senses and turned its attention to the white-haired boy.

"Oh, shit!" Gray exclaimed as the Leviathan flicked its massive tail, sending him hurtling toward the edge of the cliff.

The Leviathan's attention was fixed on the Wolf Demi-Human, giving Lily the perfect opportunity to strike. With a flick of her wrist, she launched a spell: "Shadow Salvo."

Numerous orbs of shadow magic hit the beast's body, dealing only a minimal amount of damage. The Leviathan glared at the Panda Demi-Human, who was now poised to strike again.

But before the monster could attack, it was tackled by Emiko. The Kitsune Queen extended her nine tails and unleashed a spell of her own: "Fox Fire."

Emiko's flames shot from her tails and engulfed the Leviathan, burning its wings and the majority of its scales. The monster roared in pain and thrashed about wildly, clearly weakened by the powerful flames. But the victory was short-lived as the Leviathan immediately leaped into the lake.

Without hesitation, Balthasar fired off another spell: "Godly Bolt of the Heavens." The magic attack hit the water and caused lightning to spread throughout the lake, dealing more damage to the creature.

"Is it dead?" asked the Panda Demi-Human.

"No," Balthasar replied, "if it was sealed by the heroes of the past, then I doubt it would be defeated so easily... Gwwaaahhh!"

But before he could finish his sentence, the Leviathan's razor-tipped tail erupted from the lake and pierced Balthasar's chest.

"Balthasar!" Lily, Gray, and Emiko yelled in unison, their worry palpable.

"Emiko, get Balthasar to safety. Gray and I will keep the Leviathan distracted," Lillian said, her voice firm and commanding.

Without hesitation, the Kitsune Queen began dragging the Magic Hero to safety while Lillian and Gray turned their attention to the monster. The Leviathan emerged from the lake, its eyes fixed on the two remaining heroes.

Lillian's Pov

Gray tightened his grip on his halberd and asked, "Are we going to die?"

I took a deep breath and tried to calm my nerves. "If we do, we'll go down fighting and inflict as much damage on this beast as possible," I replied, my sword trembling slightly in my hand.

"As the source of your power, I command you..." I began to chant, running towards the monster alongside Gray.

The Leviathan opened its jaws and unleashed a high-pressure water attack.

"...to decipher the laws of nature..." I shouted, slashing my weapon against the monster's burned scales and causing it to bleed.

"...and to cleave and devour my target with the power of darkness!" I finished, dodging the Leviathan's claws.

"Necrophage!"

My hand started to glow with a black aura as I unleashed a black mist toward the monster. It engulfed the creature, but unfortunately, only managed to take out its wings and scales. Suddenly, the monster's tail came straight at me, but it stopped and recoiled as the Leviathan roared in pain, with Gray on its back and his weapon inside the beast.

"Think again, asshole," Gray taunted as the Leviathan tried to shake him off.

"Haha, kung-fu grip boy, kung-fu grip," Gray continued, but his words were cut short as the monster's tail grazed him and struck the Leviathan.

I gripped my weapon tightly and stabbed the monster, but was slapped by its clawed hand. The monster then turned to face me and reared its head back before unleashing its breath attack. My eyes widened in horror, but Gray jumped in front of me to protect me. He smiled bravely before his eyes closed, and he fell to the ground covered in blood.

"Ice Age!"'

The area was covered in a thick layer of ice, and the Leviathan was encased in what looked like a miniature glacier.

"Balthasar!" I sobbed, tears forming in my eyes.

"Don't worry, he'll live," Balthasar said, aiming his hand at Gray.

"Divine Healing!"

Balthasar's hand glowed with a soft green light, and Gray was enveloped in the same glow. His back began to heal quickly, and we all heard a loud crack as his spine realigned.

"Lily, take Gray and run!" Balthasar ordered, lifting his magic staff.

"But..." I protested.

"GO!" the man who had saved my life yelled.

I pulled Gray's arm over my neck and carried him to the forest line as Balthasar and Emiko continued to fight the Leviathan.

No-One's Pov

Emiko struggled to pull Balthasar away from the Leviathan as he gradually lost consciousness.

"Master...please," Emiko implored, transforming back into her human form.

The Dragonoid checked his HP gauge and noticed that it was quickly depleting due to a Bleeding status effect. With great effort, Balthasar raised his hand and placed it on his wound, channeling magic into it.

"Di..Divine Healing!"

Balthasar's eyes snapped open as his health was swiftly restored, and the Bleeding status was lifted.

"Master!" Emiko exclaimed, tears streaming down her face as she embraced the Magic Hero.

"It's alright, Emiko. I'm okay. But where are Gray and Lily?" Balthasar inquired of the Kitsune Queen.

"They're battling the monster," Emiko replied.

"What?!" Balthasar exclaimed, hurrying back to the fray. There, he witnessed Gray sacrificing three-quarters of his health to protect Lily.

Balthasar wasted no time in unleashing one of his formidable prison spells, "ICE AGE," causing the entire area to be blanketed in frost. The Leviathan was ensnared in a massive block of ice that resembled a miniature glacier.

"Balthasar!" cried Lily, tears streaming down her face as she clung to Gray.

"Don't worry, he'll be fine," the Dragonoid assured her, casting a healing spell.

"Divine Healing!"

After restoring Gray's health, Balthasar heard a deafening crack and swiveled to face the Leviathan. Turning to the Panda Demi-Human, he ordered, "Lily, I need you to take Gray and get out of here."

"But..." Lily began to protest before Balthasar cut her off.

"GO!" he bellowed, brandishing his Magic Staff. Lily quickly complied, fleeing the scene with Gray.

After Lily and Gray fled, the frequency of cracks increased. Balthasar quickly activated both "Force of Nature" and "Vine Snare," and he wrapped the glacier with two types of vines before encasing it in a stone shell. With the additional traps in place, Balthasar had Emiko transform into her fox form and leap onto her back.

"Emiko, I need you to keep your distance from the Leviathan," the Magic Hero instructed as cracks began to form on the stone.

As Emiko dashed away, the Leviathan broke free from its icy prison, and Balthasar began launching spell after spell.

'Lightning Bolt!'
'Zwei Tornado!'
'Arrow of Ice!'
'Lightning Bomb!'
'Cyclone Flash!'
'Thunderbolt Salvo!'
'Lightning Arrow!'

Every spell cast by the Magic Hero hit the Leviathan directly but failed to do significant damage. Even Emiko's Fox Fire had no effect as the Leviathan dove into the safety of its lake.

"This is bad. My SP and mana are running low, and we can't keep dodging forever," said the Magic Hero, as his Kitsune Queen evaded another breath attack.

Moments later, the Leviathan swung its tail, hitting Emiko and throwing her to the ground. Balthasar was launched towards the cliff's edge but quickly regained his balance. The Magic Hero saw the Leviathan heading towards Emiko and, without hesitation, fired his Air Arrow spell to divert the monster's attention. Resigned to his fate, the Magic Hero exhaled.

With a heavy heart, Balthasar spoke, "At least they will survive," just before he was pushed over the cliff.

Acting on instinct, Balthasar grabbed hold of the edge, but his attention was quickly diverted by the body of his fallen comrade.

"NOOOOOOO!" he cried out in despair, but Emiko was there to lift him back to safety.

[Flashback ~15 Days Ago~]

Balthasar and his party had found themselves locked in a ferocious battle with a colossal serpent monster. The fight had been grueling, and Balthasar's last memory was that of the monster and one of his companions hurtling down the cliff's edge and into the vast lake below.

As he gasped for air, Balthasar's eyes flickered open, and his fingers tightened around the Crystal Ball Magic Staff.

"What did you see?" inquired the Panda Demi-Human, meticulously cleaning her weapon and adjusting her artificial leg.

"I saw a cliff, a lake, and a colossal serpent monster," replied the Magic Hero, still catching his breath. "I also saw someone falling with the monster."

"Master, do you have any idea of who it might have been?" Emiko's tone was laced with apprehension.

"I'm afraid not. My Clairvoyance skill is quite a burden on my mind, and the details I receive are often hazy at best. What I do know is that we will encounter a colossal monster near a cliff and lake, and it's highly likely that our adversary will plummet off the cliff with the creature," the Magic Hero replied, reverting to his default staff.

The Wolf Demi-Human piped up, "Any idea when we might face this monster?"

Balthasar shook his head. "No, I cannot predict the time frame. However, I vow to keep the four of us alive until the next wave, no matter how long it takes," he declared, flipping open his grimoire.

[End Flashback]

Balthasar gazed solemnly at his party, his mind deep in thought.

"Master?" Emiko spoke up, attempting to console the Hero.

Balthasar took a deep breath before addressing his companions. "Listen carefully, everyone. I want you to bring me the man responsible for unleashing that monster," he instructed, his voice firm.

Without hesitation, his party set off to retrieve the member of the Three Heroes Church.

Balthasar's mind was consumed by a deep, ominous voice that growled, "Your companion is dead because of him."

Gritting his teeth, anger boiled over Balthasar as he seethed, "Yes, it's his fault."

The voice continued to urge him on, "Do you want him to pay?"

"Absolutely," Balthasar replied, his determination unwavering.

The voice continued, "Do you want him to suffer?"

"Without mercy," Balthasar declared, his voice cold.

"Do you want the power?" the voice asked.

"Yes," Balthasar responded, his tone unwavering.

"The power to protect?" the voice inquired.

"Yes," Balthasar affirmed.

"The power to defend?" the voice pressed.

"Yes," Balthasar confirmed.

Finally, the voice asked, "The power to...kill?"

Balthasar's response was immediate and fierce. "Hell yes. Without a doubt."

The Magic Heroes party arrived with the man and approached Balthasar with a somber expression, unaware that the Leviathan had climbed up the cliff using its claws.

"Master, we have brought..." Emiko began but suddenly stopped in her tracks.

"Your end is here, Magic Demon!" shouted a Church member as the Leviathan launched an attack on the Magic Hero.

To their surprise, the Leviathan was bound with red spiked metal vines. It was then that the Magic Heroes Party noticed the jewel on the man's staff emitting an increasingly intense red glow before it suddenly burst into flames and transformed. The staff turned into a metallic blood-red color, with a three-foot blade at the bottom and a burning crimson eye in place of the jewel, which seemed to penetrate the enemies' very souls.

As Balthasar lifted his staff, a transformation overtook him. His armor began to emit a fiery orange glow, while each piece of it underwent a shape-shifting process. His gauntlets sprouted three-bladed fins, similar to Batman's gloves, and his hands morphed into serrated talons. His grieves, the armor covering his shins and feet, developed short curved blades on his knees. The armor on his chest expanded, covering his arms and shoulders, and formed three iron spikes on each. Finally, an orange aura enveloped his head, shaping into a helmet with short curved horns, reminiscent of Magneto's.

In a voice filled with dark menace, Balthasar pointed his staff at the vile Leviathan. "You have already taken the life of one of my comrades. You will not take another."

"As the source of your power, I command you to decipher the laws of Chaos and engulf my target in ever-burning flames of Hell," Balthasar intoned in a commanding voice.

The Leviathan responded by rearing its head back to unleash a breath attack. But Balthasar was ready. "Hellfire..." he began, as the monster opened its maw and unleashed a torrent of high-pressured water. "...Inferno!" he finished, unleashing a massive burst of blackish-red flames.

The clash of fire and water created thick steam that shrouded the area, but the agonized roar that followed indicated that Balthasar's spell had hit its mark. As the steam eventually dissipated, the burnt remains of the once mighty Leviathan were revealed.

With the birth of his newfound fury, Balthasar's draconic features manifested. His eyes, once a piercing shade of blue, had changed to a dark red color, and his black scales now glimmered with a deep, blood-red hue. With a look of fury, he strode towards his party and seized the man by his neck, slamming him into the nearest tree.

"Start talking or you'll meet your maker," Balthasar growled, his voice returning to its normal tone.

"I have nothing to say to you, Devil of Magic," the man spat, angering the hero.

Without warning, Balthasar grabbed the man by his hair and slammed his head into the ground. Then, hauling him up by his purple locks, he dragged him towards the cliff's edge and held him over the drop.

"Talk, or I'll drop you," the magic hero threatened, his voice rising.

"Okay, okay!" the man cried out as Balthasar threw him towards the obelisk.

"So, who hired you?" Balthasar demanded.

"It was the princess," the man replied.

Balthasar froze upon hearing the identity of the person who had hired the man. But soon, the magic hero began to laugh hysterically, unable to contain his amusement.y

Balthasar's laughter echoed across the cliff, but it quickly turned into a menacing growl. "Ahaha...I'm sorry, but I don't think I heard you right. Mind repeating that?" he asked, his voice laced with a threatening tone.

"Princess Malty Melromarc hired us," the man repeated, his voice trembling.

Balthasar began to walk away, but then he stopped and spun on his heel. With a single powerful punch, he sent the purple-haired man flying through the stone obelisk.

"You said you'd let me live if I talked," the man gasped as he attempted to crawl away.

"I lied," Balthasar snarled, grabbing the man by the neck and delivering another brutal blow to his face.

After several minutes of relentless beating, the church member was left bloodied, beaten, and barely conscious. Having worked off all traces of his rage, the magic hero's staff and body returned to normal. He made his way towards his party, leaving the purple-haired man leaning on a nearby tree, using it for support.

"Ah, he was right about you," the man spat with venom. "You are the Devil, and your Demi-Human Whores are no better."

Balthasar Black froze in his tracks, his anger reawakened as he turned to face the beaten man. His eyes shifted from blue to dark red, and he walked towards the man, his steps heavy with rage. He stopped in front of him and grabbed his hair, causing the man to scream in agony. With a twisted smile, Balthasar inserted his hand into the man's mouth and yanked downwards, tearing his jaw away from his head. The man's tongue hung limply in the air as he let out a final, blood-curdling scream.

Balthasar fixed his gaze on the man, his eyes filled with a sense of solemn duty. He closed his eyes, clasped his hands together, and began to recite a prayer from his homeland.

"Gray, may the great dragons receive your soul into their fiery embrace, and guide you to the realms beyond this mortal place. May their scales shield you from harm, and their flames purify your spirit as you embark on your journey to the sky. Rest forevermore in the embrace of their mighty roar, oh great dragons, lords of the earth and the core."

Finally...chapter 7 has finally been uploaded and published, this one took a while because I had a little trouble with the Leviathan Battle now originally I was going to end it at the flashback portion and set up a poll to see who saved Balthasar, I had a scenario for all of them, Emiko would have fallen and the Leviathan would climb the cliff with one of her nine-tails in its mouth which would have triggered the Cursed Series, but I think I like how this turned out a lot better

also, did anyone find The Revenge of the Fallen reference
