The opportunity for Kayo to seek out help for this…mess she found herself in came sooner than she expected. The brothers were all out on a rescue, leaving her with time to do what she needed, and her reputation as 'the sneaky one' gave her the ability to be where she needed.
The walk through the suburbs of Auckland went without a hitch, and soon Kayo found herself wandering through a large Japanese convenience store. The lighting was muted and the place felt dark but comfortable as she looked at the various wares on display.
But this was no ordinary shop. And the owner of the Urahara Shop was no mere man.
'H-h-how is that faux b-b-body holding out? Actually, you fit right in as a – what? As a fighter of some kind?'
She couldn't help but smile at Brain's attempt at humour.
'Don't be ridiculous. It isn't like I have a choice.'
Brains chuckled as he came over, his blue-rimmed glasses catching the light. MAX wasn't far behind, the little robot-AI clicking and whistling a greeting to her. Kayo patted its head in return.
'I h-h-have something for you. A n-n-new battery.'
He passed over a plain pine box. When Kayo removed the lid and opened the dark purple material it revealed a circular battery, one for her Hollow-tracker. She switched out the old one and immediately the display became clear.
'I'm w-w-wondering what your p-p-plan is.'
Kayo glanced over to him. Brains was seated at a small desk, slightly turned away from her and fanning himself with that ubiquitous fan. He paused and returned her gaze.
He wasn't smiling any more.
'You g-g-gave your power to a h-h-human. You defied the R-R-Reaper's Code. They'll have you ex-ex-executed if they find out…'
Kayo looked down at the tracker in her hand and swallowed. Brains was right. If her father discovered her actions he'd have no choice but to act, to detain her and to kill Scott so she could get her powers back. She knew that he often seemed aloof, but he hid behind that cool façade after the hurt his own brother had caused.
Her father had married a commoner, had broken the rules himself, so maybe he could be reasoned with to spare Scott's life, allowing him to become strong enough to give her powers back.
Unknown to her, back in Soul Society her absence had indeed been noted.
Kyrano sat upon a chair, his lieutenant in front of him. He had a headache, not that he would show that to Rigby, but his beloved only daughter was as headstrong as her mother, and while he had broken laws when he married beneath him, that was nothing compared to what Tanusha had done…he needed to find her before the order to execute her came from up high. He listened as Rigby spoke.
'I can't locate her spiritual pressure. Tanusha would never have been defeated by a lowly hollow like Fishbone. Could she really have given her powers to a human?'
'Find her. And if she did give her powers…bring her in. That's an order from above.'
Wayne bowed and left. He had his orders. Kyrano may be Tanusha's father, but even he answered to a higher power, and no one had broken Soul Society regulations like Tanusha had – may have – for many, many years.
He feared for her.
