Warnings for fighting, blood and stabbing

With a grunt Kayo ran at Scott and hit him with the red glove, separating out the Reaper from the human part of him.

Landing in a crouch, Scott reached behind him and pull out Zangetsu, his Zanpakuto, and they sprang into action.

As he ran towards the Grand Fisher it responded by shooting those green tendrils at him and Scott busily hacked away at them, paying no heed as they disappeared in puffs of blue-green smoke.

'You killed my Mom!'

In response the Hollow roared at him, throwing out many more tendrils. Scott advanced, Zangetsu whirling, until with another roar the Hollow dropped Gordon and Alan and retreated.

Kayo ran over to the fallen brothers. They were both unconscious but appeared otherwise unharmed. As Scott continued to slice at the Grand Fisher and the Hollow continued to slowly retreat she crouched over them and shouted at Scott.

'Scott, try and get behind it.

He was busy trying to keep free of the tendrils when suddenly there was an opening and he lunged forward, head bowed. He didn't like the sound his blade suddenly made.

Rather than the sound of blades cutting the tendrils, this sounded like he had hit flesh. He risked looking up.

And he recoiled in horror.

In his haste to destroy the Hollow he had run the blade right through his Mom.

Lucy stood there, blood dripping from a cut on her lip, hands around the blade in her stomach and struggling to draw breath.

'S-S-Scott.'

'Mom? Mom!'

He pulled the blade out of her body and Lucy gasped. Scott stood tall and for the first time since the fight started he – they – were no longer on the wooded hill. No, they were back by the river where this had all started.

Lucy was wearing a simple white dress with a long flowing matching blouse-jacket. Scott watched as she swayed on the spot, the red stain slowly growing.

'Scott.'

Her voice, even now, was laden with love, and Scott's face softened. She stepped towards him, a smile on her face.

'How I've missed you! To hold you again…'

She reached forward, hands about to cup his face, and Scott stood there, transfixed by the sight. Mom was here. She missed him…was going to hold him like she used to do. How he'd missed this!

He didn't see the green tendrils suddenly surrounding her, reaching out for him too.

'It's an illusion! Watch out!'

Kayo's scream tore at him, but he just saw through the illusion in time as the tendrils swallowed up his Mom reaching for him. He flew backwards and crouched beside Kayo as the Hollow manifested itself fully.

It was the largest Hollow Scott had ever seen, all green tendrils writhing. Its white face was almost as large as he was, with four eyes and a huge mouth.

The Grand Fisher loomed over them.

'How dare you bring my Mom into this fight!'

'I've been waiting for you!'

With a yell Scott ran at the Hollow, Zangetsu at the ready.
