Chapter 8
Aftermath of the party
The god-awful knocking was giving me a headache. It was so persistent even after I told it to "fuck off". I don't know who's at the door, I hear them talking as they continue to knock but I can't make out their voice very well.
I'm just dry-heaving now, not even proper 'throwing up' anymore. These tablets are useless for me. I don't know why I bother with them. No, that's wrong. I know why I bother with them still…
Before I could finish that thought, the door opens and in comes a girl, grumbling to herself. It wasn't Yuki, like I thought it was going to be, but one Touya Rima. Why was SHE here?
"Stupid, you left it unlocked. Anyone could have come inside." She said this as she walked over to the open bathroom door.
"Like yourself?" I grimaced; I could still taste the bile.
"Yes, but I'm sure you would prefer me over the other Prefect, right?" she sounded smug but her face still held its usual "doll-like" stoicism.
"You've made your point, so what? What are you doing here?"
"Well, I saw what you did for Senri. I wouldn't have taken you for a romantic though."
"Romantic? What are you taking about?" I was utterly confused by what she said.
Did I somehow do something romantic for Shiki?
I must have had a dumbfounded expression on my face because she then said "hold on, you really didn't know?"
"Know what?" I barked at her. I just wanted to understand what went wrong.
"That Senri has had feeling for Takuma for a long time now, but was too afraid to do anything about it."
I'm sorry, what? Shiki likes Ichijou?
"I thought you knew and gave Senri the knife as a conversation starter or something. Worked pretty well as regardless of what you thought would happen." She stopped for a second and looked closer at me, asking "What DID you want to happen?"
I realised that it didn't matter if I told her what I wanted to happen. So I explained, "I gave the knife to Shiki-senpai because he kept glaring at Ichijou-senpai. I wanted to start something. I thought they might fight or something. It was mostly for my own entertainment to be honest."
"…You're joking." It was her turn to look dumbfounded.
"I wish I was…" I felt kind of silly, not having realised that Shiki wasn't really glaring at Ichijou. It must have showed because her composure broke in that second and I heard her laugh for the first time.
Why is that so cute?
What am I thinking?! Cute? Vampires can't be cute. Stupid brain.
"Are you feeling better now?"
Her question startled me. I hadn't noticed but as she spoke with me, I felt less ill than I was before. It was still there but it was milder now. More manageable.
"I feel alright, for now at least." I told her. She nodded in understanding and got up to leave after patting my back.
"I'll see you in class tomorrow, yea?" she was in the doorway, waiting for my reply.
"We'll see." I spoke quietly since I didn't want to make any promises. She left regardless, closing the door behind her and after a minute of making sure I don't vomit again, I got up. My legs were tingling with each step from kneeling on the tiles for so long and walked slowly to my bed and fell on top of the covers.
I woke up to a knocking at my door and someone asking If I was coming back down for lunch. I must have passed out from exhaustion because I don't remember falling asleep. I ignored the knocking till it stopped and I heard the quiet footsteps walking back towards the party. Since I still had that acidic taste in my mouth, I decided to go brush my teeth, hoping for the peppermint to nullify the sick feeling in my mouth.
Once I was feeling more refreshed, I thought that I should probably make an appearance down at the kitchens for lunch. The rush should be over by now, so I should be able to have free range to make something for myself.
While heading down to eat, I passed by several other students, all giving me an unpleasant look, walking back to their own rooms or back to the gardens to continue Ichijou's party. It doesn't sound as loud as it was earlier, probably coming to the end of the festivities. I still don't want to go back out there so I continued on my way to the student kitchen. I made myself a sandwich and headed back to my room to eat.
The rest of that night was quiet and I just stayed in my room reading till the sun came up.
The next night, I did end up deciding to go to class and Touya sent me an approving nod as I came down the stairs to the dorm's foyer. She was standing around, chatting with Shiki and Ichijou. I noticed that Shiki had Ichijou's hand in his.
Guess she was right about them after all.
Seems like they were all ready to go, so we exited the dorms and walked up to the gate. It opened and the crowd of girls pushed forwards but were blocked by Kaito on one side and Yuki on the other. Yuki seemed to actually be able to hold her side back today. She smiled at me as I walked closer to her but Kuran had began talking with her, complimenting her work. Besides Aidou acting like his usual annoying playboy self, it didn't take us long to get to the classroom today.
Yagari-shishou was setting up for todays lessons as we walked into the room. I sat alone at the back and the class went on in a quiet fashion. The other students avoided me and sat near their friends and waited for class to begin.
I looked around class tonight, Aidou was fooling around with Kain, Souen was fiddling with her hair, Touya and Shiki were eating snacks given to them by the day students during crossover, and lastly, Kuran and Ichijou were talking in the back. They were on the opposite side from me, by the window where I could assume Yuki was watching out for problem students.
Or maybe just watching Kuran instead.
It was as we were getting up to leave once class ended that Shishou called me to stay back.
Am I in trouble? I don't think I did anything wrong… well, not today at least.
I watched as the others left, Kuran telling me to return back to the rooms right away once finished here. I packed my things up and walked down to the front of the class.
"You wanted to talk to me?" it was mostly to get his attention, since he was still cleaning off the blackboard. He turned to look at me, his face was grim, like he had bad news to share. "I have heard something you wont like, it concerns 'that woman'" I didn't know how to react, there hasn't been any news of her since she went missing. "There is reason to believe she is active again." I was shocked to say the least.
So, that means there's a chance for me to get my revenge after all?
I guess I took too long to reply because he patted me on the back and walked away. I wonder what will happen now then. Will she come here to claim her "property"? Or will she stay in hiding? Either way, I can't let her take anything else from me, I must protect this school, even if it costs my life.
I must have been deep in my thoughts for a while, it was so quiet by the time I was on my way back to the dorms.
The rest of the week went by monotonously. Nightmare, wake up in a cold sweat, shower, breakfast, class, dinner, sleep, and repeat. It was now Saturday morning and our last class of the week had just finished. I was in my room, thinking more about what Shishou had told me when I heard a ruckus coming from down the hall. I peeked out of my room to see Ichijou half way into Aidou and Kain's room, yelling about something. I walked closer, not caring if he heard me or not. As I got closer however, I began to understand what Ichijou was screaming about.
"In the night world, even among vampires, he's a force to be reconned with… Ichijou Asato or 'Ichiou' as he's called." He was wearing a more serious face now, one I hadn't seen before. It looked off putting on him. "In the council of ancients, he continues to be one of the most senior vampires." As he was talking, more vampires showed up, Souen being one of them, "I'm afraid that's not all… The council of ancients is the highest body in command of our world. However, its not our sovereign."
Who would have guessed that she cared about politics? Not me.
Seems like most of the conversation was at its end by the time I got there anyway, so I left. Souen giving me a glare as I went, clearly not liking my company.
Not that I like her company either.
I went back to my room and slept the day away, well, I tried to. In the end, I couldn't stop thinking about what Shishou told me earlier this week. I couldn't get my mind off it. Whenever I had time to spare, my thoughts just travelled there without any prodding.
AN: I'm still working on it! I promise! I haven't forgotten about it. And I don't want to abandon this story. It might take some time to complete it but feel free to yell at me if I take too long updating.
Also, please let me know if there's something you like or don't like or if there's something you want to see happen.
I have ideas about what to do later on, but I am always open to new ideas.
