I don't own Hetalia okay? I know I haven't updated on this as fast as some of my other fics, but I will, don't worry about that part. Anyway, enough of this A/N, on with the fic!
Once Alfred had come back from taking Ivan to his hotel room, after a long parting kiss and promises to call the other, he walked into the living room to find Francis sitting on the couch swirling a glass of wine. "Papa!" Alfred yelled in surprise. "Where's Dad?"
"Oh at his office again. Poor man never takes a break from work." Francis sighed. "But I wanted to talk to you the most Alfred."
"God, what?" Alfred sighed. He frankly wanted to get back to his room, call Ivan and get ready for the classes he had to do the next day. It was going to be tough, balancing work and school before Ivan had to go back to Russia and spending all the time he could with him before the 8 hour time difference made talking to him harder. He had promised once the semester was over he was going to Russia to spend time with him. Last thing he wanted was to be around his father when he was being overly romantic and with his brother proposing to his girlfriend, it was going to be a nightmare.
"Nothing much. Just wanting to let you know I find Ivan an interesting young man and you seem very taken with him." Francis said.
"Thanks Papa..."Alfred said as he started to walk back to his room. God won't people just let me handle this? He thought as a Nickelback song started to play on his phone. "Oh. Matt." He said.
"Hey Al." Matthew said with a smile, "Rush, or Avril Lavinge?" He asked, knowing that since he moved to Canada and settled there, that Alfred had changed the ringtone to be one of a Canadian singer or band.
"Nickelback this time." Alfred smiled laying back on the bed.
"You get my text?" Matthew asked.
"Yeah good for you bro, Emma is one lucky girl there..." Alfred sighed. "You said you hadn't picked a date..."
"Not just yet. Emma's saying sometime this summer. But I wanted to call and ask if you could be my best man."
"What?" Alfred asked.
"You heard me. You're my brother and I respect you. I admire you had the guts to go after your dream and you got pretty far in an industry notoriously cutthroat and you probably could have made it if you didn't have a bad manager. So yeah I want you to be the best man. It's a brotherly thing to do. Besides, I have a funny feeling in a few years you'll be asking the same of me with Ivan."
Alfred blushed. "Dude! It's not like that! I mean I really like him and I'm going to miss him and wish I could just stuff myself in a box and ship myself to his house rather than put up with this crap of schooling even though I kind of like this subject but I did promise him that we wouldn't make things too serious unless we could stand long distance and I..."
"Just confessed to me that I am very likely right." Matthew smirked.
"Fuck you!" Alfred yelled back. "It's just I was planning to visit him in Russia a little bit over the summer and I would like to know the date so we can plan that." He said quickly.
"I'll let you know. I'll talk with Emma about that tonight and let you know so you can bring your Prince Charming as well." Matthew teased.
"You're lucky you are in Canada and my brother or I'd deck you for that." Alfred huffed.
"Love you too bro." Matthew laughed. "But go do whatever you were going to do. I have to hammer out the date because some of Emma's family is asking a lot of the same questions."
"Talk to you later Mattie. I have apparently plan a memorable bachelor party too. I mean isn't that the best man's job?"
"Not officially and if you do something crazy I'll..." Matthew stammered.
"Thank me." Alfred laughed. "Bye Mattie."
"Later Alfie." Matthew said as he hung up. Alfred then looked over at his school books and over what he had written down as the assignments and when they were due. Seeing that everything due the next day was already done, he opened his textbook for his new coding class and began to read. I have to dedicate myself to do this. Sure Ivan's workplace may like me as his tester for that little project of theirs but I want to have my own merits and impress him too... Alfred thought as he focused on the words on the page. The words began to blur until he found himself staring closer at the page and he fell asleep.
Next thing Alfred was aware of, he was in a large chapel with all the pews filled. The people in the pews, he did not notice the faces of but he looked ahead and at the end of the isle the people looked more and more familiar slowly but surely. There were two women on the left side he couldn't make out, and there was his dad, papa and brother with another woman that kind of looked like the one picture he had quickly seen and at the end there was Ivan standing there waiting for him in a handsome tuxedo. "Fredka moya lyubov" Ivan smiled as he took Alfred's hand.
"Vanya..."Alfred whispered as a hush was over the room.
"Do you, Alfred Franklin Jones take Ivan Nikolavich Braginksy to be your lawfully wedded husband..." the pastor said
"I do." Alfred smiled
"And do you, Ivan Nikolavich Braginsky take Alfred Franklin Jones to be your lawfully wedded husband..." And as Ivan's mouth opened in the dream, the sound of Alfred's phone began to come out of his mouth.
"Huh?" Alfred said waking up looking around and noticing his phone on the nightstand. "Oh. Must have fallen asleep..." He said to himself as he noticed it was Ivan on the other end of the phone and answered it. "Hello there big guy." Alfred laughed.
"I'm glad you are okay." Ivan said with a slight note of relief. "I had noticed the time and the fact you had not called yet and I began to worry."
"Nothing wrong." Alfred smiled at Ivan's care. "I was just reading ahead in some of my school books and I feel asleep I guess..." had a really interesting dream of our wedding, probably planted because of what Mattie said, that's all...but I don't need to tell him that...
"Oh come on, your school work isn't that boring." Ivan teased.
"Speech class maybe." Alfred said. "You haven't had to deal with that professor. Like I get that in the real business world you may need to know how to give a proper speech and shit but god you have to keep the people listening..."
"You really do not like that class do you Fredka?" Ivan laughed.
"No." Alfred said simply. "Oh I do have some big news."
"Oh really?" Ivan said.
"You are going to have to spend some time in either America or Canada with me this summer." Alfred began.
"Because of your brother's wedding? He picked a date?" Ivan asked, remembering the text that Alfred had gotten while they were having dinner.
"Not yet but I told him to pick one soon because I am indeed going to Russia this summer and have to plan this around that. Can't believe I didn't ask him which country he's going to have it in." Alfred said.
"I am assuming his wife to be is Canadian?" Ivan asked.
"Yep." Alfred said.
"And you and your fathers are all the family he has in America?" Ivan asked as he heard Alfred agree. "Well most likely it will be in Canada then. If you wish for me to join, I can work something out possibly."
"He did say you could come too, called you my..." Alfred blushed.
"Just what?" Ivan prodded knowing that it had to have bothered Alfred if he was blushing.
"Don't worry about it, it's stupid..." Alfred blushed, not wanting the name to get out.
"Come on..."
"No"
"Please."
"Fredka..."
"Will you stop asking..."
"Nyet..."
"Fine!" Alfred said in annoyance. "But you had better not laugh. It's stupid."
"I promise I will not laugh." Ivan said. "But you have me so intrigued podsolnukh..."
"Okay, Matt called you my 'Prince Charming...'" He said blushing furiously as he could hear Ivan trying not to laugh on the other end. "Hey! You promised!"
"I am sorry Fredka. That is just so funny! So you are my little Cinderella?" Ivan said trying to keep his composure and not laugh but he just found the cliched terminology hilarious. True he did love Alfred and he could tell that he was head over heels for him, but to use that fairy tale term, at least from his brother was more than Ivan could handle.
"Oh fuck you!" Alfred yelled.
"Oh I wish you were here so I could." Ivan teased back hearing Alfred huff in annoyance. "You know you love it so."
"That may be true but I am no Cinderella." Alfred said. A pause filled the air as he turned back to the phone. "You are just a few miles away and already I miss you."
"As do I." Ivan said.
"I do not know how I will be able to stand when you have to go back to Russia..." Alfred said quietly.
"I do not know either." Ivan admitted. "I love you far too much to just let you go as some sort of vacation or work trip romance like in some of those bad movies you see out there. My boss has dropped some very strong hints that later we would be expanding into your area and would have me as one of the starting agents building the company but I worry it won't come to pass."
"Why not? You're good at what you do." Alfred smiled.
"I know I am very qualified for the job and my boss approves of my work but I still am scared I would not be able to hold you. That the great distance between us would be too much. I do not want to break your heart." Ivan confessed.
"I would move heaven and earth, and then some, go through hell and purgatory to have you. I would find a way. Come hell or high water, you will be mine." Alfred promised as Ivan smiled.
"And that's what I love about you dorogoy." Ivan said. "You are so determined. No one has ever been so good to me and cared about me so much..." He could feel his face grow pink and he buried his mouth in his scarf in shyness.
"Not even your sisters?" Alfred asked concerned.
"I am sure they care and they do in their own way. But just how you are..." Ivan began, at a loss for words.
"I understand. You don't have to say any more." Alfred said. "Ya lyublyu tebya."
"You have a little bit of an accent, but I love you too." Ivan said.
"I'm looking into ways I can learn more. I don't want to embrass you as some tourist who can only cuss. Sure it may not be like I am a native speaker but I want to be able to not need you for translation as much as possible when I do visit. And I do want to see your sisters. You met my dads and how crazy they are." Alfred laughed.
"Fair." Ivan sighed rolling his eyes. "But when you do, don't say YA tebya ne preduprezhdal"
"Huh? Don't say I...what?" Alfred asked.
"Oh you are picking up on some." Ivan smiled.
"Well the Ya part is a lot like when I say I love you so I just assumed there..." Alfred mused "And there's tebya in there... some I and you..."
"Don't say I didn't warn you." Ivan finished. He looked at the clock. "But it is getting late and you have school tomorrow."
"I know." Alfred admitted. "If not for you I don't know what I would be doing."
"Glad I could help out." Ivan smiled. "Now rest. You are no good to me other than eye candy if you don't get your education and I know you are smart. I love that brain of yours." Alfred blushed. "I love you."
"Ya lyublyu tebya.God I love saying I love you in Russian to you." Alfred said. "I'll be dreaming of you."
"As I you." Ivan said. "Sleep well."
"You too dude." Alfred said.
"Talking to you, I know I will." Ivan said.
"Good night."
"Spokoynoy nochi, lyubov' moya." Ivan said back.
"God you don't know what that does to me..." Alfred moaned.
"I think I do now." Ivan smirked. "But that will be for later."
"Good night Vanya."
"Sleep tight Fredka..." Ivan said as he hung up.
Back in Los Angeles, Lien had come down from Bakersfield at Lukas's request to talk to him about the idea their band would reform. "So, the old gang is all here because some record producers found one of our old CDs at a thrift store?" Lien asked.
"Well almost all of the old gang, but yes." Lukas said as he noticed a tension in the room building between Lien and Roderich. "I wanted to know what you thought before we went further. Let you have a say."
"Did you try to get ahold of Alfred?" Lien asked. "He was the front man and he wrote most of our lyrics. If we are to do a redo of it all, why would we have him out? I cannot write songs like he can."
"I could try." Roderich added.
"NO!" Lukas, Christensen and Lien added at the same time.
"Just what do you mean?" Roderich asked.
"Well Alfred would have the least well response to you." Lien said, trying to be diplomatic. "I would have to believe he would have the strongest grudge."
"Well who would talk to him about it?" Roderich huffed.
"Lien?" Lukas offered. "He seemed to not be so angry to hear you were asking about him."
"Me?" She asked.
"Yes." Christensen said. "I mean Alfred is the front man, none of us have his voice or way with lyrics" at this he looked at Roderich who huffed. "Sorry man but his wasn't as flowery as yours so it worked with the music better." This seemed to be an acceptable response so he turned to Lien. "So can you try to get him back?"
"Well I don't know. I was talking with him and he seems pretty happy with how his life is right now. It would be a lot for him to pack up and come back on the odd chance that the band would get back together and make it big. He was telling me about what he is going to school for and someone who caught his eye he sounds so much in love with. It would be unfair to ask him to give that up or bring him along." Lien explained. Yes, this was a grand opportunity for them to live their dream after all, but at the same time, she had promised herself that Alfred's happiness in his life after the band was more important than the goal. One thing she learned from the first time was that it was important to have a back up plan in life and some things do not always go how you would want them to. If Alfred is happy, then I will be happy for him.
"Come on Lien, you got things that you can work that we don't!" Christensen said as Lukas and Roderich both hit him. One thing that the rest of the band had stressed when they were on the scene was that Lien was not to be used sexually for attraction. Her drumming was impressive enough on its own and that was what she was going to be known for. Lukas and Roderich looked at him scandalized.
"I meant that she wanted to stay together the first time around!" Christensen pleaded. "I know Al was bi and if he wanted he could have had any of us."
"Never mix work with pleasure" Roderich said. "Besides that brown hair dye they had him use did nothing to suit him. I think if nothing else we all can agree on that." Lien, Christensen and Lukas nodded.
"I will try." Lien said as she called Alfred, knowing that it was likely late back where he was and that it would be rather rude, but she had to try.
"Son of a bi-" Alfred said as he was woken up from another dream like his earlier one by the phone. "This had better be important." He noticed it was Lien and that she would not call unless it was. "Oh Lien." He said. Lien put her thumbs up to show he was not angry with her. "You know what time it is here? I have class tomorrow. Is something wrong?"
"Well...not exactly. Lukas got a hold of me and I am with the old band."
"Oh. Well what do they want? Not like I have the money to pay their rent or something like that." Alfred said as Lien winced. She put him on mute and turned to the other boys.
"He seems pretty bitter towards you. I will do what I can but no promises. Besides, he has talked about Ivan so well, I doubt he'd give up what he is doing for you guys." Lien said earnestly as she turned back to the phone. "No, it is not that. Lukas told me that he got an offer from a different record producer who found a CD of our old music in a second hand shop he works at. She and her brother want to give us another chance."
Alfred paused in shock. "You aren't joking." He said shocked but almost certain.
"I would most certainly not joke about something like this Alfred. This is our chance to get what we should have had, a fair shot." Lien said.
"Yeah." Alfred said rubbing his temple. "Can we talk about it tomorrow? Like it's nearly midnight here and I have to get up early tomorrow."
Lien looked to Lukas, "Did the record producer give you a time frame on when she wants you to call?"
"Not really." He said. Lien nodded.
"Sure, but don't take too long please. While the producer did not give any of us a deadline, it is improper to keep them waiting." Lien said.
"I know. Talk to you later sis..." Alfred said as he hung up and looked up at the ceiling. A chance to have what I was working for...
