Hey look didn't take me a month to update this time! Haha!
Now this chapter is a bit shorter than normal but there's a reason for that trust me.
I still think I did pretty good, we're on the JNPR arc right now and I wanna try and flesh it out a bit more than canon. So far I think I'm doing a good job but you just gotta read and see for yourselves.
It was a bright and sunny day in the town and everyone was going about their usual business with a smile on their face. The adults went to work while some stayed at home to take care of their kids and house, it was almost easy for them to forget they lived in a world plagued with deadly creatures of darkness. Meanwhile the kids simply went to school, with some teens either continuing normal education or going to combat school, and simply looked forward for the final bell so they could leave.
And once they were finally free from the walls of the school, a group of kids went off towards the nearby forest.
"Come on soldiers march!" The 5 kids were lined up, and in the front of the line was a young 6-year-old Katsuki Bakugo. With a grin on his face and his eyes narrowed, the young ash blond wielded a small plastic sword he rose up to help lead his fellow kids. "1-2-3-4! 1-2-3-4!"
"W-Wait! Hold up! Slow down!" A squeaky voice called out from the back of the line. The last child in line was another 6-year-old with short golden blond hair and blue eyes, Jaune Arc. "You're going too fast!"
"Come on Jaune! You can catch up!" The 2nd to last kid in line called out to Jaune. This little kid sported a familiar bushy green and black hair and green eyes was Izuku Midoriya. "You don't wanna miss out on exploring!"
"I-I'm trying!" Jaune breathed out as he sped marched towards everyone to try and catch up. But as he was doing so he ended up getting his foot caught in a root in the ground resulting him tripping and falling flat on his face. "O-Ow…"
"Jaune!" Izuku let out in concern for his friend as he quickly broke from the group and ran after his friend to help him up. "Are you ok?"
"I-I'm fine…" Jaune groaned in pain as he wiped the dirt of his face as his cheeks blushed in pure embarrassment. "Thanks…"
"Hey!" The two flinched and look forward to see the other kids have stopped and turned to them. Two of them, a skinny boy with black hair and a fat boy with brown hair, looked at the two friends mockingly as Katsuki glared at the two in annoyance. "If you two are gonna be acting like that then get lost! You wouldn't be able to handle the mission I got!"
"A-And what i-is that mission exactly Katsuki?" Jaune stuttered a bit as he rose his hand. "Y-You never told us anything, we just followed you into the forest…"
"That's because you nerds weren't invited!" Katsuki yelled at the two boys, making them flinch. Izuku and Jaune thought they were good friends with Katsuki, but things have changed in the last year. Miraculously Katsuki somehow activated his aura and semblance on his own, this was extremely rare for someones Katsuki's age and after showing off his new semblance to everyone, and everyone telling him what a great and strong huntsman he'd make one day, he's gained a massive ego and has started dividing himself from Izuku and Jaune. "You just keep following us like lost puppies!"
"W-We just wanna be included in what you're doing…" Izuku muttered as he looked down with a frown. He really missed the old Katsuki. Sure he was still loud and boisterous but he wasn't…this. "Please let us come with you."
"Tch, you weaklings wouldn't even be able to handle it." Katsuki told them with a rather sadistic-looking grin. "We're gonna track down and take out a Grimm!"
"Yeah!" The two other boys next to Katsuki cheered.
"W-Wait, what?!" Jaune yelled as both he and Izuku looked at them with fearful looks. Taking down a Grimm?! At their age!? That was practically suicide, even the weaker Grimm would rip them apart! "Y-You can't do that! That's crazy!"
BOOM!
"Ah!" Izuku and Jaune yelled as they were suddenly blown back and onto the ground, following onto their backs. The two coughed a bit before looking up and freezing as they saw Katsuki giving them a death glare.
"Don't you say what I can't do!" He told the two of them through gritted teeth. He rose an arm again and the boys flinched and braced for another impact, but watched as Katsuki aimed his palm at a nearby rock and activated his semblance again and blew the rock away, even breaking it apart a bit. "With my semblance I can take out any grimm that comes my way! And I'm gonna prove it! You two just go home, you couldn't handle being an actual huntsman!"
"But…but…" Izuku tried to let out before…
"Izuku! Jaune! Where are you two!" A female voice called out to them. The kids looked back and saw a 13-year-old girl with an orange shirt and hair and eyes that matched Jaune. It was his second oldest sister Saphron Arc. The girl called out to them while looking around and managed to spot both them and the other kids and immediately ran to the two boys. "There you two are! I've been looking everywhere for you two, I was worried sick!"
"Hey! What's she doing here?" Katsuki yelled out as Saphron briefly gave him the stick eye. She never liked Katsuki, thinking he was a bad influence on her little brother and Izuku but ever since his recent attitude development she's really grown a disdain for him.
"W-Well I told her we were coming out here…" Jaune told them with the three boys immediately glaring at him for that. "So she could tell mine and Izuku's mom…"
"And I'm here to take you all back," Saphron told all the boys as she crossed her arms and spoke in a stern tone. "What were you all thinking coming out here? Don't you know this part of the forest can be dangerous, what if a Grimm finds you."
"Then I'll slay it!" Katsuki shouted with plenty of bravado in his voice. "I can take on anything in my path!"
"This would be your idea, of all the stupid things…" Saphron put a hand to her face and shook it. She really needs to talk to the teachers at the elementary school for the big head they're giving Katsuki. "Well you won't get the chance to slay anything because I'm taking you all back now."
"You can't tell me what to do!" Katsuki yelled back at her, refusing to do what Jaune's annoying older sister told him.
"I can't, but your moms can," Saphron said as she pulled out her scroll causing the two boys next to Katsuki to flinch and for Katsuki himself to flinch as Saphron glared at him. "Like when I call them and tell them what you're up to,"
This caused the boys to start sweating nervously as they looked at each other before looking to Katsuki. "Sorry Katsuki…" The black-haired skinny boy said. "But I can't afford to get into trouble anymore…"
"Me neither…" The brown-haired fat boy said as he and the other boy started walking back in the direction of the town. "We'll see you at school tomorrow…"
"Grrrrr…" Katsuki glared at the retreating cowards before looking to Saphron who was glaring hard at him with her scroll open and his mother already pulled up on the contacts list. Seeing that the threat wasn't empty, Katsuki clicked his tongue and started stomping away from the forest in a huff. "Tch…" As he passed by Izuku and Jaune he was quick to push them back down to the ground before running off before Saphron could yell at her scroll him.
"Little monster…" Saphron muttered as she watched Katsuki run away before pulling Izuku and Jaune back up and checking them for injuries. "Are you two ok?"
"We're fine…" Izuku let out with a sad tone. "Sorry Saphron, we didn't mean to worry you…"
Saphron let out a small sigh before giving her little brother and Izuku a small smile. "It's alright you two, you aren't in trouble. But when Katsuki wants to do something stupid don't go along with him ok?"
"Ok…" Was all Jaune let out as he stared at the ground.
"Good, now come on you two. Izuku, our moms making peach cobbler if you wanna come over for a bite," Saphron told the two as she took their hands, leading them back toward their town. "We better hurry up with we want a piece before the others hog it for themselves."
TWO YEARS LATER
"Wooooow…look at all the different kinds of dust…" An eight-year-old Izuku commented as he and an eight year-old Jaune looked over the display case of the new dust shop that had just opened up in town. Their eyes were widened in wonder as they looked at the different kinds of dust crystals each one a different color and/or size. "Never seen so many different kinds in one place right?"
"I wanna use all of them!" Jaune said with a big smile on his face as he imagined what kind of heroic things he could accomplish with this much dust. "But isn't it dangerous to have so much dust in one place? I've heard plenty of stories about it being…explosive…"
"Hehehe, oh don't you boys let those horror stories about dust mines scare ya, I promise it's all perfectly safe right here," The dust shopkeeper, Mr. Burg, told the two curious young lads with a smile on his face. He's grown rather close to the two since opening his shop, the two would often come by and check out everything he had and since he expanded recently his shipment of dust as well as the different types he had in stock had increased and the two just had to check it out. "Here, see for yourselves!"
Mr. Burg than reached inside the display case and took out an ice dust crystal and held it out toward Izuku. Izuku looked at the crystal in fascination as he carefully took it into his own hand. "Wow, it feels so cold." Izuku said as he lightly gripped the dust in his hand.
"Well that's ice dust for ya," Mr. Burg chuckled and crossed his arms. "Trust me you're gonna be using this stuff a lot when you become huntsmen, so I expect a lot of business from you both in the future hehe,"
"You got it Mr. Burg," Jaune nodded at the shopkeeper before looking towards Izuku. "So what's it feel like holding dust Izuku?"
"Kinda weird…but it feels right!" Izuku smiled as he rose it up high. "Like one day I'll be a real Huntsman wielding a really cool weapon!" As Izuku held up the dust crystal, he pretended it was a strong heroic looking sword and-
POOF!
"Woah!" Jaune and Mr. Burg's eyes widened at the sight that appeared in front of them. The dust crystal Izuku was wielding suddenly glowed in his hand before morphing into what looked like a sword made of ice.
"H-Huh…" Izuku's own eyes widened as he looked at the sword that was now in his hand. He looked over it and into his own eyes as they appeared in the reflection of the sword. He…somehow did this. He turned an ice dust crystal into an ice sword. "But…how…"
"Fascinating. Might I see that Izuku?" Mr. Burg asked as he adjusted his glasses. Izuku nodded and handed the sword to Mr. Burg who closely inspected it, taking not of every detail. "How interesting…it's like you forged the very properties and element of the dust into this sword! Is this your semblance?"
"I don't…wait…maybe it is…" Izuku's eyes widened as he realized that what just might have happened was his semblance unlocking. He unlocked his semblance! "I imagined I was holding a sword and the dust turned into my sword! I bet that's my semblance! Jaune! I unlocked my semblance!"
"Wow Izuku! That's amazing!" Jaune smiled in excitement for his friend…before looking down a bit and kicking the ground. "Both you and Katsuki have…guess that leaves me in dead last…"
"H-Hey don't talk like that!" Izuku tried to cheer his friend up. He didn't mean to make him feel bad, he was just so excited about unlocking his semblance. "I'm sure yours will come in any day now! I know it will!"
"Yeah…Yeah you're right." Jaune tried to perk himself up using Izuku's reasoning. "I-I'm sure it's just taking a while longer to unlock because it's just really awesome!"
"Well a semblance like this is quite impressive young man." Mr. Burg smiled as he handed the ice sword back to Izuku. "Turning dust into weaponry, there are endless possibilities to that."
"I'll have to write this down in my huntsman journal!" Izuku smiled eagerly before realizing something and looking up at Mr. Burg. "Wait, your dust crystal! I'm so sorry Mr. Burg, I-I don't have any money on me…"
"Hohoho, think nothing of this one my boy, it's on the house." Mr. Burg reassured Izuku as he patted him on the head. "Seeing someone unlock their semblance for the first time is quite the sight, more than payment enough for me. Now why don't you go share this with your mother, I'm sure she's gonna want to know."
"Yeah you're right." Izuku nodded as he turned to Jaune. "Come on let's go!"
"Ok!" Jaune nodded as he and Izuku ran off toward the latter's house together.
FOUR YEARS LATER
"Oh…an application for combat school…" Sitting in his chair with an eager smile, a 12-year-old Jaune Arc had just handed his parents his application to the local combat school. He had already done everything else to enter he just needed both of his parent's signatures and then during the next school year he would officially be enrolled along with his friend Izuku and they would continue their goal to be Huntsman one day. And of course, looking over the applications were his parents with his father holding it. His dad, Blanc Arc was a tall and masculine man with blond hair a bit darker than his son but his eyes were matching in the shade of blue, and he also had a bushy mustache and was wearing a casual white button-up shirt and jeans with brown loafers. "You're serious about this son?"
"Of course I am!" Jaune nodded without a single doubt in his mind. "Me and Izuku have been looking forward to this our whole lives! We want to be Huntsman who can protect anyone who needs our help, and I can continue our family's legacy too! Like you want dad,"
"Well, I don't need to be convinced." Jaune's mother, Prisme Arc, said with a sweet smile as she reached into a purse and pulled out a pen and took the application from her husband and signed her name on it. "I'm sure you'll do great sweetie."
"Now, now, let's not rush this decision honey." Blanc said with an uncertain tone as Prisme slide the application over to him and put the pen into his hands. "Now son as much as I would like for our family's huntsman legacy I'm not trying to force you into it or anything like that. Why I would be more than happy if you became a police officer, or a lawyer, or a doctor or just about anything."
"Honey…" Prisme said with a still sweet but warning tone that made her husband flinch as she subtly gestured her head to the application. "Just sign the paper,"
"Y-Yeah I know dad but I wanna do this." Jaune stuttered but still kept a smile on his face. "I wanna be someone that people can rely on to help keep them safe from danger. Like All Might, and like you!"
"I'm just making sure that you thought this through all the way is all son," Blanc told his son in a soft tone, trying not to sound stern or harsh. However this didn't stop a frown from slowly coming to Jaune's face and for his wife to start sending him a light glare. "I mean…being a Huntsman isn't an easy job and well…"
"Well…what?" Jaune dared to ask as he looked at his dad with an unsure look. "Do you…not think I'm capable of doing it…"
"No! No! No! That's not what I'm saying." Truthfully…Blanc did think that. He loved his son and supported him…but he could tell that he would struggle greatly in the path of becoming a huntsman. Even after having his aura unlocked Jaune had trouble even activating it and his clumsiness would do him no favors on the battlefield. Not to mention his lack of a semblance. Now there are still plenty of Huntsman that don't have their semblances unlocked, but it seems these days more and more people are unlocking their semblances and that's gonna end up putting Jaune behind everyone else. "What I'm trying to say is that maybe you should also look at other career options, y-ya know just in case. Never hurts to have a plan B ya know?"
"I guess…" Jaune lowered his head. Despite his dads' words, Jaune had a feeling what he really meant.
"…Sweetie, why don't you head to your room and play," Jaune's mother told him with a sweet tone and expression before turning to her husband and giving him a much more fierce look and tone. "I'll talk about this with your father…" Blanc gulped a bit in worry.
"Yeah…sure…" Jaune said in a saddened tone as he got off the chair and headed towards his room. However, after closing the door Jaune got onto the floor and put his ear to the crack between the door and floor and listened in on his parents conversation.
"What the hell was that?!" Jaune flinched as he heard his mother well, most likely right to his father's face. And she sounded anything but happy. "You just told our son to his face that you didn't believe in him!"
"I never said that!" Blanc told his wife with a raised voice. Jaune then heard his father let out a sigh before speaking in a softer tone. "Look…I love Jaune, and I want nothing but the best for him and I would love it if he could continue my families legacy, I really would. But…I'm just worried he's not cut out for it. And lots of people aren't this isn't against him specifically. If he went out there on the field and got tore apart by a Grimm I'd…I'd never be able to forgive myself…"
"…" Jaune was silent as he carried a blank look on his face.
"I don't want that either you know! But I always want us to support our son in our dreams!" Prisme's words seemed to be a bit more strained now, Jaune could tell she was starting to get emotional. "He wants nothing to be a huntsman when he grows up, both him and Izuku! Do you know how much he looks up to you? How much he admires you? He's already getting enough discouragement from his classmates, especially Katsuki! How do you think he feels now that not even his own father believes in him?"
"I never said I didn't believe I just…" There was silence for a moment. Jaune held his breath, trying to be as quiet as possible so his parents didn't figure out he was eavesdropping. "Ok look…I'll sign the application. I just…I just want our son to have a good happy life. That's I want."
"That's all I want too honey," His mother spoke in a softer tone now, seemingly calmed down. "Maybe combat school will help him improve, that's the whole point of it. And it's not gonna be our decision if he gets into one of the academies. If he can't make it then…that'll be it. We don't know what's gonna happen. Just please, promise me you'll support him."
"I will…I will." His father said, but Jaune could still catch the uncertainty in his tone.
After listening to all that, Jaune didn't say a thing. He got up off the floor and put the back to the door and simply buried his face into his knees and wrapped his arms around him.
5 YEARS LATER
"It's over Mister Arc," Speaking to Jaune with a more professional tone, Masakazu looked up at the TV screen above the arena. "You've failed.
Shock. That was all that went through Jaune's body after hearing those words. His heart skipped a few beats and his blood felt cold. Managing to look up, he saw that his aura was in the red with over a minute still left in the fight with Masakazu's aura still in the green, barely depleted at all. He had failed. Spectacularly. "N-No…"
"I'm sorry Mister Arc," This was always the hardest part of Masakazu's job, but it had to be done. While Jaune was a good kid, he had always struggled in class. He did ok in academics, though mostly due to Izuku helping him study, but when it came to combat he just couldn't quite make the cut. He still struggled to activate his aura which is one of the most important things a huntsman needs to know. Jaune just…wasn't cut out for it. This is for the best so he doesn't get himself killed. "But this is where it ends."
"But…But…" Jaune desperately tried to think of something to persuade Masakazu to rethink the decision. But he just couldn't.
"The decision is final," Masakazu said firmly to Jaune, making him flinch. "It's for the best."
"…...Yes sir…" Was all Jaune could let out as he pressed a button on his shield, causing it to shift into a sheath he could put his sword into. With his weapon put away, Jaune headed to the exit of the combat room. In an instance all of his dreams were shattered. He wouldn't be making it to Beacon, he wasn't gonna become a Hunstman…he wasn't going to go with his best friend to the academy. As he walked through the hallway back to the waiting room, he tried to think of a way he was going to have to tell Izuku that-
Creeeeeeeak…
"Huh?" His attention being drawn to a creaking sound, Jaune turned back and saw the door leading to the main office was open. "Um…hello? Anyone there?" Jaune asked as he walked forward and peaked into the office. But no one was in there, looking around Jaune found none of the schools faculty inside the office. "Guess someone must have left the door…open…"
Suddenly Jaune's eyes came upon the desk in the office. On the desk were a pile of papers…transcripts. The transcripts that the teachers were gonna send to the schools that the students applied to, the ones that passed at least. But looking at them closer, Jaune saw they were all blank. None have been filled out. Including his.
A lightbulb then went off in Jaune's head.
"Jaune? Jaune."
"Mmmmmm…"
"Jaune! Wake up!"
"H-Huh!" With someone shouting right in his ear, Jaune's eyes shot open and he immediately sat up and bed and looked around to see what was wrong. "What's going on! What's happening!"
"Nothing's happening silly hahaha!" Nora laughed as she jumped up and down on her bed, still wearing her pj's. "You were just being a sleepy head."
"O-Oh…" Jaune relaxed a bit and rubbed his eyes as he know felt how tired they still felt. "Crap did I oversleep."
"No, we kept you from oversleeping." Ren said, the teenage ninja wearing a chefs hat and an apron that said 'don't kiss the cook' along with a big plate of pancakes in his hand. "We wanted to make sure you were up and had enough time to eat and get ready…and make sure Nora didn't eat all the breakfast before you woke up."
"Buzzkill…" Nora pouted in Ren's direction with Ren simply ignoring the ginger girl.
"Jaune…are you alright?" Pyrrha, with her uniform already on and standing next to Jaune's bed, asked with a bit of a worried tone and expression. "You were muttering something in your sleep and were rolling around a lot."
"O-Oh…hehe, w-was I?" Jaune stuttered and simply tried to play it cool. Attempting to wave off his teammates concern. "Sorry about that, just, ya know, had a crazy dream is all. I'm sure you know how it can be."
"Oh yeah totally," Nora nodded her head as she continued to carelessly bounce up and down. "Like one time I dreamed I was apart of this mystery solving gang and the evil monsters all just turned out to be capitalist in mask! Oh, and I had a mustache heheh."
"…" Jaune and Pyrrha were in complete silence as they gave the hammer wielder strange looks. Ren however, didn't react at all as he was perfectly aware of what kinda dreams Nora had.
"Well…can't say it was anything like that…" Jaune said slowly as he got out of bed and stretched out a bit. "But like I said it was just a dream Pyrrha no big deal."
"Are you sure?" However Pyrrha still seemed to be a bit worried and looked Jaune right in the eyes, causing to blond the flinch and look away but he still kept a smile despite it looking a bit awkward. "If you need to talk about-"
"I-I don't need to talk Pyrrha. I told you I'm fine." Jaune repeated as he quickly walked over to the bedroom to avoid anymore of this conversation. He was grateful that she was concerned about him, but he was fine…he could handle things on his own. He had too. "I'm just gonna go get ready ok? I'll join you guys for breakfast in a bit. Nora don't eat my pancakes."
"No promises!"
But as Jaune entered the bathroom, the concerned look never left Pyrrha's face.
"Now students the mixture of dust is one of the most important foundations of dust usage, especially when it comes to usage in weapons or as fuel." The students were now in first period and under going another dust lesson from Professor Peach as she was instructing them on the proper handling of Dust and how to use it with weapons. "Too little and you might as well not even be using dust, but too much and your weapon will blow sky high!"
"Like Katsuki during combat class?" Yang spoke up with a grin on her face.
"Exactly!" Professor Peach giggled and nodded at Yang.
"FUCK BOTH OF YOU!" Katsuki yelled as he slammed his palms against the desk.
"Just proving our point mister," Peach said with a big grin before she began to give instructions of the assignment she had today. "Now then, I want to see how you all properly handle mixing together dust. As you can see I placed various dust samples and chemistry tools on your tables, and it'll be your job to properly mix it together to make it suitable for usage in combat! While most stories it'll already be this way, you never know when you might need to do this yourself out in the field so it's not a skill you can just pass up unless you want to be a beowolves tasty lunch. So just follow the instructions on the white board here and hand your mixture to be before the end of the class. Oh! And causing an explosion will result in instant failure as well as entertainment for me, plus you'll have to stay after class and clean up your mess. Good luck students!"
"Alright let's see what we got here…" Jaune began as his team looked over the dust samples they were handed. They were given a full vial of fire dust and one full of water dust, as well as a vial half filled with earth dust and one last vial with only a fourth of it filled with wind dust. "Fire, water, earth, wind…ok so we got the four basic elements of dust but what exactly are we supposed to do with them?"
"Well duh! We just mix em all together!" Nora grinned as she grabbed a big measuring cup. "Come on, let's dump them in and see what we get!"
"That's exactly the opposite of what we're supposed to do Nora," Ren slowly said as he moved the dust vials far away from his hyper active partner. This is exactly why he always manages her dust. If she had free rain on that stuff it would be an absolute catastrophe and Ren shudders to think of what it might look like. "Like she said we're supposed to properly measure them all together and creature a mixture that could be suitable for use in combat. I'd imagine we're supposed to use up all of it."
"Agreed, wasting dust is something highly frowned upon. Especially with the rise in dust prices recently." Pyrrha pointed out something that was becoming more and more of a concern as of late. Due to plenty of shops and supply ships and trains being raided lately, dust has become scarcer, thus raising the price of it and making it harder for people to get what they need. "It's just awful how much of an occurrence that's becoming."
"Ruby actually told me the night she met Ozpin the dust shop she was at was being robbed by that Roman Torchwick guy," Jaune brought up as he opened up the instructions left for them by Peach. "From what I've seen on the news that guy's been on a role lately with his crimes, how does he keep getting away with all that? He's just one guy."
"Despite his cocky demeanor he's obviously shown himself to be a master planner and taction. Truly someone formidable." Ren spoke up with a serious tone as he peaked at the instructions and brought up the equipment he would need. "So what type of dust are we trying to create with this?"
"Lots of fire and water, some earth, and a little bit of wind…" Jaune muttered as he looked over the samples. After a few moments of looking over the dust samples his eyes widened as he turned to his team. "We could make a smokebomb!"
"Smokebomb?" Nora questioned with a bit of an uninterested tone. "Aw you can't destroy anything with that…"
"No but it can be a very useful tool in either escaping or even sneaking up on your opponent." Pyrrha explained as she gave Jaune a proud smile and nod. "Fire and water dust make steam, add earth to it and you make smoke, and with the wind dust it gives it power to spread out. Excellent idea Jaune."
"Hehe, t-thanks Pyrrha," Jaune stuttered a bit from the praise, an act that caused Pyrrha to giggle a bit, as he picked up a vial of dust. "Alright let's get started!"
It wasn't long until all the teams got to work on their dust assignment.
With team IFMS they were currently working on making an electric-ice dust combination.
"I got the idea after watching your battle with Ruby Shoto," Izuku said as he passed Mina a small measuring cup. "Ice created through dust conducts electricity much better than natural ice, if you mix the electric dust right in that opens a whole new level of possibilities."
"Hmmm, perhaps I could also use this for my arrows." Fumikage said as he took out a piece of paper and a pencil. "We'll have to write down that recipe."
With Team TKED, they were working on making dust ammo rounds.
"Um…Katsuki I appreciate the hard work…" Tenya said as he, Eijiro, and Denki watched in surprise as Katsuki quickly went about soloing the project with…very good results. "But I believe it's supposed to be a team effort…"
"Hey be quiet," Denki lightly nudged his leader. "When someone does your work for you, you don't question it."
"Guess it's just weird is all," Eijiro chuckled as he scratched the back of his head. "Didn't expect you to be so good with dust management dude, nice job."
"IT'S NOT WEIRD!" Katsuki snapped at them. "YOU ALL JUST NEED TO BE BETTER AT IT!"
"You're not even letting us help!" Eijiro shouted back. "How do you know we're bad at it?!"
With Team RWBY things were…complicated…
"Hey Weiss," Ruby spoke up as she just got done measuring out some electric dust. "Would you mind handing me the measuring cup, wanna try mixing up the electric dust with the water dust."
"Here Ruby." Before Weiss could grab the measuring cup, Yang stretched her hand across the table and snatched it first and handed it to Ruby. "I got it for ya,"
"Oh, uh, thanks Yang," Ruby gave her sister a smile as Weiss lightly glared at her. A glare that Yang happily returned before smiling at Ruby. "But you didn't have to do that, Weiss was closer to it."
"Yes Yang, you really didn't have to do that for Ruby," Weiss spoke up in a bit of a condescending tone, causing Yang to grit her teeth. "We should follow our leader's orders and not just purposing coddle up to them."
"Well Weiss…" Yang was trying her damnedest not to snap at Weiss and slug her in the face. "Maybe I just like being helpful, unlike some people…"
"…" Ruby was completely silent as she put on an awkward look while repeatedly shifting her eyes between Yang and Weiss as they glared at each other.
"Ok…" Blake sighed out after staying silent this whole time. "Why do I suddenly feel like a third wheel."
And with team CRDL they had another idea in mind for how to spend class time.
"Hey guys," Cardin chuckled as he whispered to his team. "Check this out." Cardin then began shifting his way towards JNPR's work station and, while the entire team wasn't looking, turned on the flame of the Bunsen burner and put the cup filled with fire, water, and earth dust over the flame and quickly went back to his own teams station as his team chuckled and watch.
"Ok we should almost be done!" Jaune smiled as he held up the vile of wind dust. "Just gotta add the wind dust into the mixture, properly stir it all together, and we'll have our smoke bomb!"
"Way to go leader!" Nora cheered on Jaune before pointing at something on their station. "So how long do we have to wait for the dust to warm up?"
"Warm up?" Jaune rose his brow, along with Pyrrha and Ren, as he turned to what Nora was pointing at. "What are you talk-" But Jaune soon froze as he saw the dust they mixed together over the flame of the Bunsen burner…and the fire dust quickly began glowing brightly. "Oh shi-"
BOOOOOOM!
"AH!" Most of the class screamed out as the explosion went off around team JNPR. When the smoke cleared it revealed the members of said team frozen in place and completely covered in soot, all except for Nora who still had her giddy smile on despite the incident.
"Hahahaha!" Cardin and his team laughed obnoxiously. "Nice smoke bomb Jauney boy, you really know you're stuff."
"Wow team JNPR! That was a big one! Putting that one on my playlist for sure," Peach laughed as she kept her eyes on the team that she was quick to mark down an F for. "Now then the supply closet is right there for when you start cleaning up."
"…Thanks ma'am…" Jaune groaned out as he lowered his head. Meanwhile Cardin kept on laughing causing Pyrrha to look towards him and let out a glare and a low growl.
HISTORY CLASS
"Zzzzzz…" After failing the assignment in dust class, and having to stay after to clean up their mess, Jaune decided he could use some rest. And he thought history class would be the best place for that as he leaned against the desk with his eyes shut and his light snores only be heard by those next to him.
"Yes! Yes, prior to the Faunus Rights Revolution-more popularly known as the Faunus War-" Meanwhile Oobleck was zooming around the room with a cup of coffee in his hand as he taught the current lesson to his students, currently going over the history of the rather tense relationship humans and faunus have had over the years. "Humankind was quite, quite adamant about centralizing Faunus population in Menagerie. Now! While this must feel like ancient history to many of you, it is imperative to remember that these are relatively recent events! Why, the repercussions of the uprising can still be seen to this day! Now! Have any among you been subjugated or discriminated because of your Faunus heritage?"
There were a few faunus in the room that raised their hand, including one girl with rabbit ears who shyly rose her hand.
Meanwhile Izuku narrowed his eyes and tightened his fist a bit. While he wasn't a faunus himself, he did witness faunus racism a fair share of times and it always irked him whenever he saw it. "Hey." Izuku flinched a bit as he looked to see Shoto glancing at him. Apparently the dual haired teen noticed Izuku's reaction to Oobleck's question and the few raised hands in the room. "Are you ok?"
"Y-Yeah," Izuku nodded his head as he sent Shoto a quick smile. "I'm fine."
Oobleck looked to the various students who rose their hand and shook his head and looked down. "Dreadful, simply dreadful!" Oobleck shared his nephews distaste for how many humans treat the faunus. Especially since his adorable little niece was one herself. "Remember, students, it is precisely this kind of ignorance that breeds violence! I mean, I mean, I mean just look at what happened to White Fang! Now, which one of you young scholars can tell me what many theorize to be the turning point in the third year of the War?"
"The battle at Fort Castle!" Weiss and Izuku said in the same time as they rose their brows. Both looked to each other as they did this and couldn't help but give a small laugh at the jinx.
"Precisely!" Oobleck nodded at the both of them before asking a follow-up question. "And, who can tell me the advantage the Faunus had over General Lagune's forces?"
As Oobleck was waiting for someone to raise their hand, Cardin smirked as he flicked a paper football forward, and since he was right behind Jaune was able to nail Jaune in the head. "H-Hey!" Jaune let out as he was woken up from the paper projectile hitting his head.
But unfortunately for Jaune Oobleck heard this and zoomed right in front of the golden blond in a second. "Mr. Arc! Finally contributing to class!" Oobleck let out as he nodded at Jaune. Normally Jaune was quite reserved in class and did his best to avoid answering questions, so this was a nice change in pace. "This is excellent! Excellent! What is the answer?"
"Uhhhh...The answer...The advantage...that the Faunus..." Jaune slowly said as he moved his eyes around trying to find someone to give him in the answer. He quickly looked to Izuku who tried to mouth him the answer, but Jaune was unable to read his friends lips. "...had over that guy's stuff..." He then looked to Pyrrha who cupped her hands around her eyes to try and help with Jaune giving what seemed to be the now obvious answer. "Uhh…Binoculars!"
As Jaune looked rather proud of his answer, the rest of the class proceeded to laugh at him with Izuku flinching a bit as Pyrrha facepalmed. Cardin pounded his fist on the desk in his laughter as Oobleck took a sip of his coffee with an unamused expression. "Very funny Mr. Arc. I would hope that studying with Nephew would improve you academic prowess but it seems you're still…lacking a bit." Jaune heavily flinched at that statement as he looked down in shame as Oobleck looked to the one who seemed to take the most amusement from Jaune's little joke. "Cardin! Perhaps you care to share your thoughts on the subject."
Cardin rolled his eyes as he leaned back in his chair. "Well, I know it's a lot easier to train an animal than a human," Cardin spoke without any shame in his voice.
"Oh he did not…" Mina let out as both she and Izuku gave Cardin angry looks.
Oobleck gave Cardin a disapproving look and shook his head as Pyrrha spoke up. "You're not the most open-minded of individuals, are you, Cardin?" The red head said as she glared at harshly at Cardin.
"What?" Cardin narrowed his eyes at her with a cocky tone. "You got a problem?"
"No, I have the answer! It's night vision." Pyrrha gave the correct answer to which Oobleck sent her a nod, confirming it. "Many Faunus are known to have nearly-perfect sight in the dark."
"General Lagune was inexperienced and made the mistake of trying to ambush the Faunus in their sleep." Blake followed up, giving further details into the subject. All the while glaring harshly at Cardin. "His massive army was outmatched, and the general was captured. Perhaps if he'd paid attention in class, he wouldn't have been remembered as such a failure."
Cardin growled fiercely and stood up from his desk, turning towards Blake. Before further conflict could be started Oobleck spoke up in a stern voice. "Mr. Winchester! Please take your seat." Jaune couldn't help but laugh as Cardin was forced to sit back down but flinched as Oobleck spoke up again, both at him and Cardin. "You and Mr. Arc can both see me after class for additional readings."
"Ooooohhh…" Jaune groaned out as he lowered his head. Held behind in class two times in the same day.
"Now! Moving-"
Vrrt!
"Hm?" Oobleck hummed as he zoomed over to his desk and saw a message labeled as urgent. Looking it over, his eyes widened a bit behind his glasses before he put his scroll back down. "Strange. Announcement class, there has been a change in schedule today. Mr. Aizawa's class and Professor Goodwitches classes have been swapped for the day. So after this period head for combat class and after lunch head to fitness class!"
That announcement took everyone off guard as they looked to each other. And though Oobleck got them all to stop muttering about it they never stopped wondering why this was.
MEANWHILE
"This is rather sudden Shota." Glynda said to Shoto with a sweat dropped. No matter how many times she saw this, she'd never get used to coming into the teachers lounge only to see Shota cocooned in a sleeping bag. "Why exactly do you want to swap our first-year classes for the day? You must admit that's a strange request."
"I know, sorry I just sprung this up on you." Shoto apologized as he looked at up Glynda. "But after some observation I determined this will be the best course of action for one of my students, provided you also allow me to pick one of your random match ups as well."
"That defeats the point of them being random Shota I hope you realize that." Glynda let out a sigh as she brought a few fingers to her temples. Shota's always had a rather…unique way of teaching the students. Even if it involved the other teachers and classes outside of his own. But this was the first time he requested something like this from her. "So what's your opinion on this group of first years?"
"They're a pain in the ass." Shota gave the answer he gave about all the students he was assigned. So Glynda was really looking for the next answer he was going to provide. "But I can't deny that a lot of them show some promise."
"But let me guess," Glynda could tell where this was going. "Some of them need some more special treatment?"
"Precisely." Shota nodded as he sat up, but still kept everything but his face inside the sleeping bag. "A few of them need to be broken down so they could build themselves back up. And this one I believe needs it the most, so he's the first on my list."
"And which student is it exactly?" Glynda inquired with a raised brow.
And so Aizawa told the Glynda the match he wanted to request made sure happen during class.
It was certainly a bit harsh, but Shota knew this needed to happen.
"So why did you think we're getting combat class first?" Mina asked as she and her team sat down after putting on their combat gear. They've only been at Beacon for a few weeks and they've already had a strange schedule change. "I mean I'm not complaining getting to do this first but it's weird ya know?"
"I'm sure there's a reason for it," Fumikage stated with his arms crossed under his cloak. "We simply need to adapt to the sudden change."
After a few more minutes Glynda walked into the room and looked to her class. Knowing they were gonna ask about the schedule shift she decided to rid that bandaid off and give them the excuse she thought of for this. "Now students I'm sure many of you are confused about the sudden shift in the schedule but rest assured it's nothing to be concerned about." Glynda told all of them as a few students rose their hands the second they saw her. "Mr. Aizawa simply needs a bit more time to prepare his class for the day."
"Extra time?" Denki blinked a few times after hearing that before groaning a bit. "Ah man that means it's gonna be extra brutal today…"
Glynda didn't respond to that as she brought up her scroll and set up the random battle selector. Only for this first battle it wouldn't be so random. "So unless anyone has any further questions we can get started." It seemed no one else had any questions as all hands were lowered with Glynda nodding in approval. "Good. Now student's let's get started with the first match of the day…"
And so everyone watched as the randomize rotated through the various students, and once they saw who it picked…
"No…." Jaune's face turned to one of horror.
"Yes." Cardin put on a rather dark smile.
Jaune Arc vs Cardin Winchester
And boom another chapter all done!
Now I know some things are out of place in canon but trust me I planned it all out and it's gonna work. Like I said really trying to help flesh things out a little more than in canon and I think this is all gonna pay of.
I believe the JNPR arc is gonna be about 3 chapters long, and that includes this one. Of course if I need another chapter to get everything I want to done I'll extend it but I think 3 is a safe number.
So make sure to favorite, follow, leave a review, and stay tuned for the next chapter...
