Am I on a roll? Maybe. Dunno.

Anyway, enjoy this lil' idea. If you like it, maybe I'll add to it.

Kafka Fortunata

Summary: Kofuku finally makes an interdimensional vent. Like most great discoveries, she does it entirely by accident. Now they're stuck in a parallel world and in another country. Getting home might not be the biggest problem either, not with a megalomaniac on the loose and out for Hiyori's blood.
P.S. May the gods of this world have pity on the poor souls who incur wrath of the binbougami. - Daikoku

Prologue: Into The Embrace of Darkness

"What do you mean you don't know how to get back?!"

Iki Hiyori isn't usually the type to shout. Unless the situation was really bad that it was a reflexive reaction. And this situation definitely checked all the boxes. Every. Single. One.

The day had started out just like usual. Wake up, take a bath, prepare breakfast, eat, and go to school. And if she dropped her body again, go over to Kofuku's house. Which she did.

Considering Kofuku's domain as a goddess of misfortune, it was a big mistake to assume nothing could go wrong. She let down her guard far too easily and far too much.

Kofuku really acted like a normal girl, so when she realized it, it was too late. The goddess had already opened a vent [1].

Sure, while Daikoku as a fan did a good job as a cockroach slayer, a vent always opened right after. Usually it was only on a small scale, so when a vent at least as wide as the walls appeared, they were caught off-guard.

The last thing that passed through their minds before darkness swallowed them was the same.

'Oh shit.'

"Harry Potter!"

The boy in question closed his eyes as he tried to brace himself from the headache he knew was going to come. He really, really hated Halloween.

The most miserable things in his life always seemed to happen on that day. His parent's death. Getting hospitalized for 5 broken ribs, both his arms, and his left leg. Having his reputation in Privet Drive completely ruined by his uncle's slander. The opening of the Chamber of Secrets in his second year and the dementor attack in his third.

And now he was mysteriously, probably illegally, entered into a death tournament. Was a peaceful year at Hogwarts too much to ask for?

The murderous glares from the Hufflepuffs and suspicious glances from the rest of the school probably promised a lynching after this. He was no stranger to them, since he used to get them from Dudley whenever he performed better in school.

(He learned his lesson a long time ago. Keep your head down, don't stand out. He still did it here. So how had things come to this?)

He snapped out of his reverie when Headmaster Dumbledore called his name again. Numbly walking down to the goblet, he wondered if the Headmaster would even try to help him. (Probably not. When did adults ever care, anyway?)

"Mr. Potter. Did you or did you not put your name in the goblet?"

The headmaster's blue eyes stared right at him. The usual twinkle in them was absent; they had gone hard and cold. He unconsciously shuffled his feet in nervousness. The entire hall had gone quiet.

"No, headmaster. You know I didn't, and there was no way I could've crossed the age line."

The scoffs from behind clearly expressed their disbelief. Even the professors seemed to believe otherwise, if their disappointed looks and Snape's sneer were any indication.

The headmaster pursed his lips.

"Did you or did you not ask for help from older students or from adults to put your name in the goblet?"

Harry couldn't believe the what the headmaster was implying. He'd thought of this man as someone like a grandfather to him. From the corner of his eyes, he could see expression on his first friend, Ron. It was the same as everyone else's.

'There's no one on my side. No one. I'm all alone in this world.'

The thought repeated itself again and again in his mind. He didn't want to think about staying here a moment longer. He wanted out.

No. Not just out. He wanted everything to end. He wanted to disappear.

It was the hardest thing he'd ever wished for. Not even his wish for a loving family came close to it. And probably, that was why magic chose to grant that wish instead.

The last thing he saw was the shocked look on his headmaster's face, and the fearful looks on everyone else's.
