AN: I changed a few details here and there, as well as the format of the story. Some things didn't match up with chapter 2, which will be uploaded soon. I tried to flesh out the story a bit, since it felt a bit too fast-paced.

Kafka Fortunata

Summary: Kofuku finally makes an interdimensional vent. Like most great discoveries, she does it entirely by accident. Now they're stuck in a parallel world and in another country. Getting home might not be the biggest problem either, not with a megalomaniac on the loose and out for Hiyori's blood. Wait, what?!

Legend (spoken language):
English - "Hello!"
Japanese - "Nice to meet you."
Except for
names of places, Japanese words will be in italics.

Chapter 1: (Ex)Change of Heart(s)

Chapter Summary: Two strangers appear in Hogwarts in a very bizarre way. Harry gets a makeover while Hiyori gets stuck in a different body.

The darkness was comforting, he decided. This place was better than that world full of hurt and anger.

'This,' he thought, 'will be my new home. I'll never go back to being like that ever again.'

Harry Potter's face was a picture of betrayal. He didn't seem to notice the tears running down his face.

Before anyone could say anything, tendrils of darkness burst out of his chest and quickly covered him. The bright blue flames of the goblet flared, and two tongues of flame reached out. One touched the paper in the headmaster's hand and burned it to ashes. At the same time, Alastor Moody hissed in pain as red flames engraved words on his forehead. When the fire disappeared, it became clear that the writing on the paper transferred onto the man's skin. Everyone gasped at the realization of what it meant.

The second tongue of flame formed a ring on the ground around Harry Potter's body. The fire turned white as they drew the shadows away from his body, pulling them toward the flames. As soon as the shadows touched the ring of fire, the goblet flared once more and spurted more fire, which soon joined the circle surrounding Harry Potter. With the flames beginning to obscure him from sight, the crowd saw the darkness beginning to form two shadowy humanoid shapes on each side of the boy.

The students began to whisper to one another in hushed voices as they watched Albus Dumbledore try to get to Potter, the flames pulsating as they pushed him back. Even when the other professors joined him, nothing they tried breached the fiery barrier. With each failed attempt, the flames burned brighter, as if they were absorbing the spells and using them as fuel. The students began gossiping about the identity of the shadowy figures, whether they were human or some unknown magical creature. Eventually, the wizards and witches began backing off, but Dumbledore didn't stop until Professor McGonagall stepped in.

Not even a minute later, the barrier began shrinking, and the inside of the ring became visible from the top of the bleachers. The shadows filled the ring; without it, there was no doubt that the mysterious darkness would have filled the Great Hall in no time. The crowd watched with bated breath as the flames flickered for a moment before some of them streamed inside. The fiery streams quickly found and isolated the two shadowy figures, which they found were a very dark purple compared to the inky black surrounding them. The streams thickened into ropes, grabbed onto their arms, and quickly pulled them out.

As the figures' hands passed through the barrier, the purple shadows coating them were purified, revealing unblemished human hands. When both bodies were out of the flames, the people saw what the mystery figures looked like. The first was a petite young woman in a white collared shirt with a pink checkered tie and a similarly patterned skirt; the other was a middle-aged man with growing stubble in a pink shirt and a pair of brown trousers. Both were clearly of Asian descent, but whether they were magical was unclear, even with their rather peculiar and unexplainable arrival.

When the two opened their eyes and saw the darkness within the ring of white flame, the girl gasped while the man cursed. Madam Pophrey was rushing toward them when the girl stood suddenly. She solemnly whispered a word in a voice too low for anyone to catch, and the man became a hand fan, which the girl effortlessly grasped as it flew to her.

They barely had time to react to the easy manner in which the girl performed human transfiguration when she started chanting in a language that most definitely was not Latin while drawing something in the air with the hand fan. As she drew various runes from the flames, the darkness contained in the ring coalesced into the shape of Harry Potter's famous lightning bolt scar.

The runes began forming two spheres: one around the remaining shadows inside the flames, which levitated into the air, and another around the specter of a scar. The girl slashed through the air as she shut the hand fan, still speaking in that foreign language. Her spell instantly showed its effects.

The runes flashed, and the scar began writhing like a living being under the Cruciatus. The magic that she cast was eviscerating the specter, and everyone covered their ears as a piercing shriek tore through the air. With it destroyed, only the darkness surrounding Potter was left.

The fire took on a light pink hue as it began to burn away the shadows enveloping the boy. As the darkness finally dissipated, the fire blazed into an inferno centered around the figure in the center. The whirlwind of pink flame would become an unforgettable sight burned into everyone's memory.

When the flames cleared, the person left behind did not look like Harry Potter anymore; however, those who knew his parents could not deny that this was still the same boy, only with a different appearance. It would be more accurate to say that Harry Potter no longer resembled James Potter. Why? Because he looked just like Lily Evans in her younger years.

Gone were the messy raven hair signature to the Potter line's males; instead, Harry Potter had the vibrant red hair of his mother with the curliness of the Potter line's women, which had grown down to just below his shoulders.

Everyone held their breaths as his body slowly descended to the ground. The girl sighed and lowered the hand fan, which turned back into that middle-aged man from before in a flash of light. Some eyed her curiously, but most had their attention captured by the boy who started to sit up.

Wearily rubbing his eyes, Harry Potter's gaze touched the crowd, then focused on the girl.

"Kofuku?"

Kofuku stumbled and fell forward onto cold marble as she tried to regain her bearings. She didn't know how long they got stuck in the vent, but it was a long time, that was for sure. Dealing with misfortune daily might be in her nature, but sometimes she wondered if a job change was too much to ask for.

When Kofuku opened her eyes, she was horrified to see an abomination she had only ever heard of. It was a piece of shattered spirit that existed long enough to gather large amounts of negative energy. It wasn't something she'd encountered before, not even with her particular brand of luck. But considering the kind that plagued its host, that wasn't unexpected. If he could survive a soul parasite latching onto him for over a decade, maybe meeting soul-sucking demons might even be on his schedule. Back to the main topic, however...

She instinctively knew what she should do with this evil. Taking a deep breath, she whipped her hand out and called for her shinki. "Kokki!"

These jobs were mainly for gods with war, purification, or driving out evil in their nature. But she was the only one available. Despite never having done this before, the words of the spell-slash-ritual spilled out of her mouth, and her hand smoothly performed the motions.

"Being of calamity, your desecration of these lands shall not be allowed! Hear me! I am the goddess Kofuku! I now lay thee waste with the Kokki and expel thy vast defilement! I cleanse thee! Rend!"

She felt Kokki brimming with her divine power. She opened Kokki and blasted the evil in front of her to bits.

"With the Kokki, I call upon the sun's burning flames to release this vessel from the abomination's corruption! Purify!"

Then she gathered the power of fire from the ring of fire, shut Kokki, and sent it into the host for the parasite. Things like that always left a mark, and there was also that other entity within him that was at his core. Severing ties was an ability she had only seen in Yato, and it was the only thing that could part them.

As the energy flowed into the boy, Kofuku felt something pulling the excess energy into another location inside the castle. She sensed that another one of the abominations was somewhere else in the stone castle and that something, a curse, maybe, was tied to it. Part of the fire energies were being used to purify it at this very moment.

She turned her attention back to the things in front of her. Her eyes widened as she recognized the spirit inside the vessel she just purified. She had wondered where she went after they left the vent; it seemed that as a hanyou whose connection with her body was severed, her spirit went into the closest compatible living vessel instead. That was one mystery down.

The next mystery was the body she was occupying. It had been, for some reason, recently vacated. At the same time, the original spirit was still there, but it was loosely tied to its body differently from her friend. A matter of great importance, to be revisited later.

Due to the purification, the vessel also seemed to have fundamentally changed. Though much like the original, it was still male. Another thing Kofuku would also have to research if she wanted Hiyori to be safe. As Hiyori's new body was lowered onto the ground, she reverted Daikoku back to human form.

When she finally opened his eyes, her eyes were no longer the dark pink they were in their original world. Her left eye had become a rich hazel, -while her right was a light pink like the fires from earlier. In the usual cases, the eyes would always reflect the soul of its owner, like Hiyori's body did when she was possessed by Yato.

When she gained her bearings, Hiyori tilted her head like she did when searching for another's scent. Almost immediately, her eyes landed on Kofuku and Daikoku. Her senses were frighteningly sharp, weren't they?

"Kofuku? Is that you?" Hiyori rasped like she just came from across the desert. Then again, her spell had manipulated fire.

"Mm," she grinned, "it is. Seems like we're in big trouble too."

The way her eyes widened in remembrance was cute. Like a cat suddenly getting picked up by a stranger. Her face scrunched just the tiniest bit as she took in the surroundings.

Hiyori gasped, "What? Trouble? Wait, where on earth are we?! This, this isn't Japan anymore, is it?"

"The we're-lost-and-we-don't-know-how-to-get-back kind of trouble. And no, we're not in Japan anymore. We're in a whole other world right now. I didn't know that would happen with the vent. Sorry. Te-he~!"

She struck a pose, mimicking that anime girl's reaction, placing her fist on her head. Hiyori's (new) face went through a myriad of expressions. Shock, bewilderment, confusion, recognition, before settling on panic. She could see the amusement on Daikoku's face at Hiyori's reaction.

"What do you mean you don't know how to go back?! I-I have an exam tomorrow! And I've got a date with my friends tomorrow! What am I supposed to do?!" Hiyori whisper-shrieked, her voice a bit sore.

Eh. Kofuku wasn't expecting that. To worry about missing her exams instead of their isekai situation. She needed to get her priorities straight. Then again, that was part of her charm.

From the corner of her eyes, she could see a man wearing garish robes pulling out an odd stick from behind him. She could sense energy similar to Yomi's from it. Which meant he was a sorcerer of some sort. And looking around again, this school was probably a school for them.

Sighing, she muttered, "Not a very good idea, just so you know. Others have tried. None of them were successful."

The old wizard paused as everyone turned towards him. Kofuku had spoken loud enough that everyone could hear her. Hiyori was dusting herself as she stood up while Daikoku moved closer to Kofuku.

"Ah," he chucked sheepishly, "it seems I have been misunderstood. I was merely checking if you had any other... dangerous objects hidden near you. After all, we are in a school, and as headmaster, I must ensure my students' safety, especially after what... occurred, with Mr Potter." He smiled genially. It was clear what he was thinking, that she was but a mere child with a bit too much power in her hands.

She had already thought of a witty reply when Hiyori beat her to the punch. "And am I not included among your students," Hiyori asked pointedly, "Headmaster?"

Oho. Kofuku could smell the drama. Drama and chaos. Lots of it. Looks like she had her work cut out for her. And Hiyori seemed to know quite a bit about this world.

"By the way," Hiyori's lip curled as she glanced around, "where's Professor Moody?"

So, Hiyori takes over Harry's body. Harry's fate will be revealed in a few chapters. Hiyori's insta-snooze trick will stay, because it's too much fun to play with. Plus the reaction with the Killing Curse...

Hiyori will be referred to as "he" by POVs that are not Kofuku or Daikoku; they refer to her as "she". In her own POV, she will be genderfluid, shifting to "he" as "Harry Potter" and "she" as "Iki Hiyori".
