Chapter 8: Fade To Black
The weekend had ended and a new week had begun. After the amazing halftime performance the band Rejected Alliance was officially a house hold name all across the school. Going from outcasts to becoming the new trending topic from both haters and fans alike. Although they didn't mind much of the attention it still took some time and getting used to.
"So let me get this straight. All we did was perform a tribute show to one of the best bands to ever walk the planet and now everybody loves us?" Gary asked with a confused look in his eye.
"Yup that's right! I ran into principle Flores and he said we've been the talk of the school all morning! It's great, now we can book more shows and more people will come!" Ash responded with a toothy grin.
"Think of all the chicks that'll be ready to devour me!" Brock screamed with excitement.
"No you idiot!" Paul stated, "Think of all the publicity we'd get, think of the chances at a record deal, a tour, hell maybe even becoming headliners one day!"
"Speaking of chicks." Gary started pointing at Ash. "Did you ask out our #1 fan yet? I heard you dedicate the closing song to her, bold move by the way."
"Oh yeah Ash what was that about? You're lucky her douche bag boyfriend didn't suspect anything." said Brock
"Uhh wait..." Ash hesitated in his response.
Suddenly a loud noise had rang throughout the school allowing Ash to gasp in relief for being saved by the bell.
"Well look at that, we gotta go to class. Don't be late now see you at practice guys!" Ash ran as fast as he could to avoid the confrontation.
Outside by the parking lot stood Drew and May who looked to be arguing...
"Drew why do you always question me about everything?! How many times do I have to tell you I had to stay for the performance I'm in the damn cheerleading squad!"
"Don't you raise your voice with me bitch. I don't give a shit if you were their damn manager why the fuck did you stare at the little microphone boy for so long?! If you tell me the truth maybe I'll go easy on his ass kicking."
"What did you just call me? You're unbelievable Drew, after all these years and you still can't trust me? I don't need this right now I'm gonna be la-"
Drew suddenly grabs May by the arm, squeezing it until she shouted in pain
"If I can't have you May I promise you that nobody fucking will and don't you ever walk away from me like that again got it?!"
May couldn't even let out a response just a whimper as he let her go to proceed to first period.
That night the boys were discussing and going over what songs to do for the next show:
"We should totally do Wasted Years by Iron Maiden." suggested Brock
I agree. Definitely a great pump up song to get the crowd rolling" shouted Gary with excitement.
"Okay but what's a good song that starts off slow but then will get the crowd singing a long? Paul asked
Ash got up and said "I've got the perfect one! But I need to grab my acoustic!"
"Ahh a love ballad huh?" Gary joked
Ash returned with his acoustic in one hand and his phone in the other setting it down and pressing record.
"Uhh Ash why are you recording?" questioned Brock
"Just trust me, you guys will know exactly what song I'm about to do."
And with that he begins strumming notes, a specific intro to a song that came out in 1984
As soon as Gary heard the into he immediatly recognized the song that was being played and grabbed his guitar to follow Ash's progression and with that the rest of the band began to connect perfectly in sync with one another as Ash began.
Life, it seems, will fade away
Drifting further, every day
Getting lost within myself
Nothing matters, no one else
I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free
Things not what they used to be
Missing one inside of me
Deathly loss, this can't be real
I cannot stand this hell I feel
Emptiness is filling me
To the point of agony
Growing darkness, taking dawn
I was me, but now he's gone
No one but me
Can save myself
But it's too late
Now I can't think
Think why I should even try
Yesterday seems as though
It never existed
Death greets me warm
Now I will just say goodbye
Bye...
As the band finished the song Gary realized that although the crowd would enjoy the hell out of that song he had another song in mind that'll really get them moving as he signaled to Brock to follow his lead. He began with a guitar intro and followed by drum symbols
"Oh we can definitely put this song in the setlist" said an excited Ash as he began to shout Creeping Death
Slaves, Hebrews born to serve
To the Pharaoh
Heed, to his every word
Live in fear
Faith of the unknown one
The deliverer
Wait, something must be done
Four hundred years
So let it be written
So let it be done
I'm sent here by the chosen one
So let it be written
So let it be done
To kill the first-born Pharaoh son
I'm creeping death
Now, let my people go
Land of Goshen
Go, I will be with thee
Bush of fire
Blood, running red and strong
Down the Nile
Plague, darkness three days long
Hail to fire
So let it be written
So let it be done
I'm sent here by the chosen one
So let it be written
So let it be done
To kill the first-born Pharaoh son
I'm creeping death
As Ash finished the last line it introduced Gary into an epic Guitar solo followed by Paul chanting out the word Die over and over while Ash continued the song:
Die by my hand (die)
I creep across the land (die)
Killing first-born man (die)
Die by my hand (die)
I creep across the land (die)
Killing first born man (die)
I rule the midnight air
The destroyer
Born, I shall soon be there
Deadly mass
I creep the steps and floor
Final darkness
Blood, lambs blood painted door
I shall pass
So let it be written
So let it be done
I'm sent here by the chosen one
So let it be written
So let it be done
To kill the first-born Pharaoh son
I'm creeping death
"Okay so that's two songs from Metallica that we can do but now we need other bands you know, and what about for an intro?" asked Paul
"I have an idea and it's the perfect intro!" Ash suddenly pulled out his acoustic again and began strumming it to make a sort of call to arms sound. As soon as Gary knew the intro he followed it up by the strumming of his electric at Ash's tempo followed by Brocks drums and Pauls base. The intro is called Imperium leading up to the next song from the band Ghost and their song Kaisarion. As soon as the intro ended Gary picked up the pace strumming a fast but attention grabbing sound followed by a huge yell from Ash before he began to sing
Kaisarion
A prophecy told
We are building our empire
From the ashes of an old
Kaisarion
The fruit of the womb
Our brotherhood of good faith
Sealed an apostate witch's doom
It is the sound of another deadline
Whistling past your ears
It is the sight of a million regrets
Mounting over years
It is the words that were never spoken
That echoes through the times
It is the smell of the burning temples
Swept away by rhymes
Far away from the stench of the heavens
(Hypatia)
Long ago yet too close to forever
(Hypatia)
When a paradise is lost go straight to
Kaisarion
A matter of love
When mother earth is calling
For a father up above
Kaisarion
Put on the smiles
And throw your holy rocks right at her
For her satanic wiles
It is the truth of candor shown
Through a prism of deceit
It is the continence of bishops
With their choirboys en suite
It is the tongue soiled in adulation
That licks to no avail
It is the noise of the rightious dogma
That hides the handmaid's tail
Far away from the stench of the heavens
(Hypatia)
Long ago yet too close to forever
(Hypatia)
When a paradise is lost, go straight to
Gary began an epic solo with Brock banging on the drums and Paul smoothing everything out with the base. Ash continued:

Mounting over years
It is the words that were never spoken

Brock dropped the drums one last time before the entire band came in and ended the song together. As Ash pushed the stop recording button on his phone Paul had a question for the entire band.
"Wait now I love Ghost as much as you guys do but don't you guys think we'll get hated on by the metal community? I mean even though they clearly are metal I don't know if the elitists would appreciate hearing it you know?"
Who cares was the other boys response as they all laughed.
"Seriously who cares Paul, Ghost are the new band that's dominating the charts right now. Even if the "elitists" get mad at us it isn't gonna stop us from playing some kick ass metal" responded Ash
"Yeah plus Tobias Forge himself probably listens to more metal than anyone of those haters. He's really into death metal you know." Brock said agreeing with Ash's statement
After practice was over the guys started packing up all their gear. While everyone was distracted Ash took this advantage to send his little recording to a certain blue eyed girl.
At the Maple residence we see the family gathered around for dinner. Everyone seemed to be happy expressing how each of their days went all except May of course.
"May is everything alright? You've barely touched your food" asked the father of the household Norman
"Leave her alone honey, she's just exhausted from cheerleading practice that's all. How did school go today dear?" asked Caroline
Max Maple the youngest child of the family began poking Mays cheek consistently in order to annoy her and of course to nobody's surprise it worked as he kept asking "Hey May what's wrong huh, huh, huh, huh?"
As she began turning red she couldn't take it anymore, she snapped. As May got up she burst out with anger.
"WILL YOU GUYS JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!? I'M SICK OF ALL THE QUESTIONING! IT'S ALWAYS MAY THIS AND MAY THAT WELL I'M TIRED OF IT! I'M GOING TO MY ROOM!
When May entered her room she began crying. She wanted desperately to tell her parents about what happened today at school but she just didn't know how to at this point she felt so weak and tired but afraid as well.
Suddenly she heard her phone vibrate, it was a video from the boy she felt so free to talk to. Only it wasn't just a text it had a video attached to it as well that read:
"Hey May sorry I haven't gotten a chance to talk to you. I wanted to send you a video of how our band practice went today I really hope you like it. I also included two songs from Metallica since we didn't get the chance to finish last times session anyways I could go on and on about music I hope you enjoy it! Let me know what you think! See ya! :]"
