Jay is busy finishing up cleaning the dishes in the sink when the doorbell rings.
Drying his hands, Jay goes to open the door.
Jay freezes as he is met with the cold look of Voight.
He then holds out papers to Jay. "Sign them." Voight's tone is cold and very, very serious.
"I won't, I want to speak to Hayley." Jay refuses the moment he realizes it is the divorces papers that he dropped off at the attorneys unsigned.
Unsigned for a reason.
He wants to talk to Hailey. Jay is sure that this is not what Hailey wants, she will understand once he has spoken to her, but Voight has placed himself right between them.
Why is Voight so overly involved in their business anyway?
He remembers Voight saying that he left and then Voight picked up the pieces, but surely, he is overembellishing.
Sure, he could have done things differently, but Hailey is strong, she is not that fragile, and she certainly did not fall apart with him gone, so he can't see what Voight's problem is.
"You will sign these papers, or you will never sign another thing ever again." Voight threatens him.
"Jay, who is it?" A female voice sounds from the kitchen.
"Look, it's not what you think." Jay immediately starts explaining why he is in a house with another woman that seems quite at home.
"I don't care Jay, I don't care if it's your sister, sign the papers." Voight is still holding out the papers.
"Jay?" The voice comes from the kitchen again.
"It's no one." Jay calls back into the house.
"Those papers better be signed by tomorrow morning or else I will come back, and it will be a very unhappy day for you." Voight then shoves the papers into Jay's hands, and Jay can't do anything but take it.
With that Voight turns and marches off to this car.
After the day is over, Hailey and Voight have returned home with take aways.
While eating, there is a knock on the front door.
Hailey freezes.
Even though she has been staying there for quite some time, she suddenly feels like she shouldn't be there and with that she is on her feet and heads upstairs without a word.
When Voight opens the door, he finds none other than Jay on the other side of it.
"Where is she?" Jay asks in a slightly hostile tone.
Jay was planning on going to see Hailey at some point after he returned but after he received the divorce papers, he has been trying to get hold of her. After finding that her apartment now belongs to someone else, he phoned, but got blocked.
He even tried to catch Hailey at work, but Voight was always with her, she was never alone. Jay has made a specific point to avoid Voight at all costs at this point.
But after he noticed that Hailey arrives and then leaves again with Voight, Jay made the connection that she is staying with him.
And so, here he is.
"She does not want to see you, Jay." Voight answers not even beating around the bush.
"I need to speak with her." Jay pushes.
"She does not want to speak to you either." Voight's tone gets pushy as well.
"I just want…" With that Jay moves to try and push past Voight into his house. A very dangerous thing to do, but he does it.
Voight stops him by placing his hand on the door frame and pushes Jay back.
"If you want to continue breathing, I suggest that you leave." Voight gets that murderous look on his face.
Jay immediately recognizes the look.
With that Jay raises his hands in a gesture of surrender as he steps back.
Voight then slams the door shut.
"Hailey, I just want to talk to you!" Jay's voice is heard calling from outside.
Voight stops in his tracks as he is walking away, hearing Jay's voice, he then turns around with the full intent of getting rid of Jay in whichever way he can.
When he opens the door, he doesn't find Jay on his doorstep, but a car door closes and then drives off.
Heading upstairs, Voight finds Hailey sitting on the bed with her legs crossed.
He has the fleeting feeling of a father that just told his teenage daughter's boyfriend to take a hike because she is no longer interested.
"You alright?"
Hailey stares at the floor in silence for a few seconds.
"I'm going to have to talk to him. I can't keep on running away." Hailey looks up at Voight knowing he won't be happy with it.
"Make it clear that it is over." Hailey adds as she looks back to the floor again after receiving no response from Voight.
"It will be over in the morning." Voight comments as he walks away and makes his way downstairs.
He did not tell her that he picked up the divorce papers from the attorneys and then threatened Jay to sign it.
At first the attorneys refused to give him the papers but then he convinced them that he was her father and that the divorce is messy.
And it will be messy if he finds out that those papers have not been signed by tomorrow morning.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Hailey calls after Voight. He said it under this breath like he wanted to say it but didn't want her to hear it, but she did.
By the time Voight has returned to the dining room table to finish his food, Hailey is on his heals.
"Sarge." Hailey pushes as she sits down.
"Either Jay signs those papers by tomorrow morning or it will be a very bad day for him." Voight elaborates.
"You threatened him, didn't you?" Hailey asks as she watches Voight continue eating like nothing out of the ordinary has happened.
Voight gives her a look that tells her it should not be a surprise.
He decides not to tell her anything about the woman that was with Jay. Like he said, he doesn't care who it is, but it might upset Hailey, so he says nothing.
After thinking about it, Hailey then starts eating again.
If Voight threatening Jay makes him sign those papers, then she does not even have to see him.
So, she's happy about it?
"Thanks Sarge."
