Rhydian and Maddy Whispered Confessions Chapter Three
He woke up a few hours later to his alarm going off beside his head, still groggy he reached forward silencing it before it disturbed Maddy. He wanted to get everything she would need together before waking her from her sleep. Rhydian looked over to where she lay, at some point she had pulled at the bandages because they no longer were straight. Shaking his head exasperated he sat up letting out a sigh. She would definitely not make this easy on him. Slowly and carefully, he got up off the bed stretching above his head. He had memorized the paper given but snagged it anyway to have on hand, He didn't even trust his mind when it came to taking care of her properly. In his past he had to play doctor to his own wounds and was fairly capable but that was a risk on himself and not on her, his Maddy.
In a moment of delay before gathering everything he went downstairs to grab some water for both him and her. He was shaky and nervous and needed to calm down before giving her medicine and rewrapping the wound. As he looked to the clock, he found it was nearly seven am. On a normal day they would already be running in the woods together letting off steam before class. It was then he heard a knock on the door. Looking out the window, he saw Jana and gave a deep sigh. He did not want or need this visit right now. Closing the curtain, he took a deep breath opening the door. His frustration was not her fault it was his own guilt and regret but, her face brought it all back to the surface.
"It is not a good time right now, Jana." He said immediately keeping his voice low and level and face wiped of emotions.
"I just wanted to check on you." She said sweetly smiling at him despite the tension in the air. He was a little agitated at that. He had not been the one shot, Maddy had but, Jana came to check on him. It could have been out of concern for her friend but, he did not really get that feeling as he met her eyes.
"I am fine. I am not the one whose been shot. You need to go to school or you will be late." He said in return trying to end the conversation.
"You're not going then? I could stay and help you out today keep your mind off all this. We could run together." She offered. Immediately, he shook his head no.
"No, I need to be here for Maddy, I do not need or want to keep my mind off it she needs me right now." He said sternly crossing his arms. He did not explain the others were gone and he was alone here with her because he did not think it was her business. He watched the shift in her deminer it was small but, her smile fell, and her eyes narrowed slightly, she clearly did not like that. He for the first time acknowledged the actions as a jealousy for Maddy and his relationship. He had never told her about Maddy true enough but, he did not do it because she meant nothing, he did it because he could not bear the thought of not being with her. It hurt too much. At night though when finally, alone he thought about her. If she was okay and what she might be doing. Even apart she was a constant in his mind and in his heart. When in trouble she was the only one she needed and wanted to see. He never meant to bring all this with him back to her. "Maddy is important to me Jana and I am not going to leave her right now." He added sternly clearly meeting her eyes. He needed her to be clear on this but, he did not want to hurt her either. He hoped she would take the hint.
"So, do I, I do not have anyone anymore. What about me?" She questioned sadly. He felt a pang of guilt but quickly remembered her decision to come had been a ploy to take him back. Her choices after putting, her here not him.
"You have Tom and Shannon to now. You're not alone and I don't have time for this right now." He said clearly done with the situation. "I have to go. Go to school Jana." He added shortly moving back inside and shutting the door. He'd been outside nearly thirty minutes. Cursing he quickly made his way up the stairs with the water and found Maddy stirring in the bed. Her medication would be wearing off he reminded himself setting them down and moving to the bag of medicine bag nearby, He quickly pulled a bottle and the needle out and began drawing it out to the line. He set it on the table and reached over to wake her. Her eyes drug open and closed again so he tried again.
"Mad's you need to wake up so we can get you some more medicine." He said softly nothing but, love and care in his voice. She opened them again smiling but not quite awake enough. "Come on Mad's, after you can sleep more."
"What?" She asked finally fully awake as she rubbed her eyes wincing at the sharp motion. A growl of frustration left her lips and all he could do was watch. He picked up the needle holding it up so she could see. "Or we could not." She replied though she knew the answer before shaking watching him shake her head. "Fine." She said with a deep sigh. He said nothing as she straightened her arm and placed the needle to it. Something felt so very wrong about hurting her to help her but, he needed to do it. He pushed taking her inhale to heart pushing in the medicine slowly. After done he removed it placing a cotton ball to it and holding it there. He watched her face shift as it set in to a much easier laid back even. This added to his comfort as well though the hardest part was ahead.
"I have some water for you." He said passing it to the arm he was not holding on to. She took it and drank it quickly,
"Thank you." She said roughly after.
"No problem. How are you feeling?" He asked filling the air.
She wanted to say like she had been shot but, at the same time did not want to be cruel to Rhydian. She did not miss the guilt on his face every now and then. He would have been there if he could she knew that.
"I am alright some pain but, not too much." She replied instead as he placed a band aid on her arm. His touch was soft caring, loving even and she basked in every second of it.
"We have to change the bandages to but, I would like to wait until the medicine sets in more." He said carefully. She nodded in agreement a memory of before playing on her mind. He'd been there holding her gaze and hand both times. She remembered it dulled the pain slightly as she drowned into his blue eyes, she loved so much. Then she remembered the whispered confession and kissing, and her train of thought shifted. Smiling to herself and blushing slightly she peaked at Rhydian who was watching her in confusion. For someone so smart he could be very dense she thought rolling her eyes.
"What do you want to do then?" She asked, seeing if he would take the bait.
"I don't know, what do you want to do Mad's?" He asked dumbly as a new wave of medicine overcame her senses. "Movie?" She played with the blanket meeting his eyes.
"Sure," She said a plan forming in her eyes. "Grab my laptop you can sit beside me. She smiled softly sweetly. He could see the mischief in her eyes and shook his head standing to grab it from the desk across the room. He slid up beside her opening it and clicking away at the screen to pull one up. She shifted against him smiling as he hit play. He didn't pay attention to what he selected really because of Maddy's actions. A war raged in his mind and her smile was not helping. Inwardly he weighed his options. He could let her and keep it under control or stop her and regret it. He just had to be careful. So, he settled back with a smile as well.
"Rhydian," She said softly making him turn to face her. "I love you." She said again softer. He smiled taking in the truth in her eyes,
"I love you to Maddy." He said in return leaning as she had closer and meeting her lips. It was sweet and honest but, easily grew into more when she traced his bottom lip with her tongue. He opened his mouth letting her in while reminding himself she'd be the death of him one day. She made him weak and yet strong. She was the only one in the world who broke into his heart and held it in such a way. She could with ease crush it and walk away and yet, she hadn't. Remembering how she threatened to tell the world about Wolfblood's to Jana's father proved that she loved him even then. Reaching forward her cupped her face as they continued kissing on the bed. The air filling with a pleasure and rightness around him. Breaking for air they barely pulled apart their foreheads touching. His heart racing so hard he was sure she could feel it. Her smile matched his own and reveled in simply being with him like this. It was something different something she had been wanting for a long time. It was her and Rhydian against the world. Sure, Tom and Shannon to but her connection and love for him was so much more than that. Her phone ringing from behind broke the moment and she growled a little in response.
"You need to get it. It's probably your mum." He said slightly annoyed as well but, unable to pull away from her.
"You know it is." She said gruffly reluctantly pulling away to grab it.
"She loves you and is worried." He said sitting back and straitening the laptop on his lap a smile still plastered on his lips.
"It's the timing and you know it." She said hitting the answer button. "Hello." She said gruffly, annoyance clear in her tone.
"Maddy, are you alright? Did you get the medicine and your wrappings done?" She asked berating and demanding.
"Yes, mum. Rhydian took care of it." She huffed the lie raising Rhydian's eyebrow.
"No one is, inside are they? Just him." She asked sharply.
"Yes, mum. We are all alone." She replied.
"That's not much better." She heard her reply softly as if under her breath. More annoyed and very loopy Maddy was becoming impatient again.
"Alright, I am tired Mum. I will call you later." She ground out.
"Alright Maddy rest call me when you are awake again. I love you Pet." Emma said much softer and loving. She was a full-on protective mother wolf, and her inner nature wanted her daughter better. It was that Maddy poked at to get her way.
"love you to mum and da." She said knowing he was nearby.
"Love you to Maddy." Dan called from nearby. Ending the call, she tossed aside her phone again.
"We should do the wrappings." He said closing the laptop and moving it off his lap shifting off the bed.
"What if I don't want to." Maddy asked pouting. He would have given in right then had it not endangered her health.
"I'd say to bad." He said smiling at her antics. Her eyes grew narrow instantly. "I won't compromise on your health Mad's."
"I will remember that if your ever injured." She said knowing fully if it were him it would have been done by now. She was her mother's daughter after all.
"Alright then." He replied placing what he needed beside her. "You do that."
"I will." She shot back mumbling something too low for him to hear. The only upside to this was that he was doing it instead of Alex and her mum.
"Alright I will be quick as I can." He said setting to work removing all the bandages.
In her highness and without thinking as she looked at the scene before her, she commented, "Not how I thought you'd be taking off me clothes." It was out before she realized it and caused Rhydian to flush and pause his actions briefly, shaking his head he chuckled continuing to work at his task. The blood had slowed significantly, and she was healing definitely. Carefully, he wiped away dried blood and fluids revealing the pellet sized wounds on her abdomen and back. They were small but nearly killed her he reminded himself. One shot had done so much damage. Finished he tossed the pads into a bin and wrapped her back up. It was not as professional as Alex or even Emma had done but, it was neat and did the intended purpose.
"Done." He said as she leaned back to her right side off the pained areas that were now tender. He quickly cleaned up noting the silence. She had not cried but, he saw the tears in her eyes when she shifted. The medicine helped but, he was sure she still felt it. He exited giving to clean his hands and dump the bin giving her a moment. Upon his return she was better but her eyes puffy. He took his place beside her opening his arms and moving closer. She shifted towards him and he held her to him tightly. "I am sorry." He whispered softly regret filling his tone.
"It's okay Rhydian. I'm okay." She said snuggling deeper if possible, into his embrace. Silence filled the air as she drifted into a sleep. He thought he should have fed her to but, didn't want to wake her up again just yet, instead he sat there holding her to him stroking her brown hair. Even though it was born of pain. He was thankful for the any time with her like this. He felt whole together and more alive than he had even in the wild one with the forest. At some point he to drifted asleep as well.
"Rhydian." Maddy called when she awoke again her stomach growling almost painfully and feeling sick. She knew she needed food looking to Rhydian she hated to wake him. He looked peaceful almost angelic with his squared jaw, but she truly didn't feel well. It took her a few tries but, he woke up groggily.
"What is it are you okay?" He asked in a rush eyes blown out with concern.
"I am fine, just hungry. My stomach doesn't feel well." She replied. Again, he cursed himself.
"I will go get you some food." He said instantly shifting to move away. The cold air entering their bubble. She shivered and he pulled the blanket up over her snuggly. It was the little ways he showed his feelings, like this that made her heart swell. "I will be right back." Moving quickly, he was in the kitchen making her food. Meat of course but bread as well and more water. When he returned, she looked a little pale as though she might get sick. Mentally, he noted always to feed her first from now on. "Start with the bread." He ordered placing it on her lap. She nodded and began to eat carefully. He placed a bin on the table beside her and left again returning with a wet rag. As she ate, he held it to her forehead. After the bread settled and her color improved, he removed the cloth. "Better?" He asked.
"Yes." She said reaching for the meat.
"Sorry, you should have eaten before it." He said grimacing.
"It's okay, Rhydian. You're not a doctor overnight. I am fine now." she said swallowing her food and moving along the plate. The plate was soon emptied, and she placed it aside. She was not ready to sleep again just yet though. "Can we finish the film?" She asked this time honest and free of mischief. He nodded moving to her side and setting it up. As they watched her head found her shoulder and his hand found hers. They sat like that a while before she spoke again. "This is much better than being in class with Mr. Jeffries."
"Yeah, He can be quite annoying." Rhydian added laughing as he thought of all the times, they had to mislead him. He was a good man but quite pushy. "Tom brought my bag, and a new phone for me. He asked to see you but, you were sleeping." He said seeing an opening in the conversation line.
"I am not ready for that. I am still mad about it all." She huffed angrily. "He knew Shan was watching. He knew the whole time."
"What exactly happened?" He asked curiously.
"We were in that house. I used Shan's computer to research the family. I saw files labeled Wolfblood's. Me mum clicked through and found the live feed. She has a camera in the owl, she documented everything. All our secrets, the wolfbane medicine all of it like we were an experiment. My changes even. Pictures of us to." She growled gesturing between the two. "I know how she is but, it was to much. When Tom knew I kind of lost it a bit. She got us out of the cell but, still." He nodded understanding the dangerousness of the revelation. What if someone got the information? They would be running for the rest of their life targets on their back. Let alone the violation. Being what they were was sacred to them they had shown Rhydian that and now it was to him as well. Even her change was sacred she choose who saw it. He could remember the first one on the island. It was forever in his mind. It was special and a moment with her no one else would ever have. He could definitely understand her pain and anger at the betrayal, Still, Tom was in the middle between the two girls he had known his entire life.
"I understand Mad's but he was stuck between you to and made a mistake. You saved him and he only wants to know your okay. Maybe, just text him you don't have to see him yet." He defended careful of his words and tone. He wanted to help but, didn't want to make her angry either.
"I know." She sighed as if she'd thought the exact same thing. "Maybe I will." He left it at that. "But, that owl needs to go immediately. It was me safe place and it doesn't feel like that now. It feels violated or something, I dunno." She continued. He nodded in agreement.
"I will get rid of it Maddy don't worry about it anymore." He offered making plans to do just that as she squeezed his hand. He couldn't fix much right now, but he could fix that easily. She nodded in acceptance. They finished the movie in contempt and easy silence, starting another after. They laughed and joked until she grew tired again. As she fell asleep, he shifted away from her and removed the laptop and plate making his way down to the den. He grabbed the owl removing the camera and smashing it to the ground, before taking it and the owl to the trash happily. He was happy to do something to ease Maddy if only her mind. After he returned to her room briefly scrolling through his phone and looking on the internet waiting for the next alarm.
As he sat it aside his mind wondered to the Jana issue and how to solve it once and for all.
