Thanks to everyone who read this. Enjoy!

Newt could feel Tina's anxiety as they walked to Macusa the next day. She had slept very badly the night before and Newt had let her sleep late, holding her in an attempt to soothe the nightmares. He knew why she'd had them last night of all nights.

Despite what Tina had said, he knew that coming back to New York to face the wizard who had raped her scared her.

The Portkey had taken them to a secluded patch of woods in Central Park, leaving Newt and Tina to walk the rest of the way to Macusa. Newt said nothing. He didn't think Tina would engage in conversation with him and Newt couldn't think of anything that he could say that would distract her.

The building stood unchanged from the last time Newt had seen it and Tina stopped to speak to the wizard standing outside Macusa's door. Now that Tina was no longer an Auror, their presence in Macusa had to be known and verified. The wizard knew Tina, but procedure had to be followed.

"Tina Goldstein and Newt Scamander to attend today's trial." Tina said. The wizard looked them over, then nodded.

Newt found himself wishing that he had his case as the door was opened and they walked through. He had left it behind in London for obvious reasons and left Bunty in charge of the creatures for the next forty-eight hours.

Tina headed up the stairs at a quick pace and Newt hurried to keep up. He wanted to offer her some sort of physical comfort or support, but he knew that Tina would not tolerate that. Not here. Not today.

They reached the top of the stairs and Tina turned to head towards Picquery's office. Newt didn't think that the trial would truly be able to start without Tina, considering they had sent word to Picquery they were attending.

They didn't get far before they were waylaid by another wizard.

"Goldstein!"

Newt stopped and Tina turned. Abernathy was jogging towards them. Tina didn't seem happy to see him and sighed.

"Mr. Abernathy." she said in a neutral tone.

Abernathy stopped by Newt and glanced at him.

"And Mr. Scamander."

Abernathy's eyes dropped to Tina's hugely swollen belly for a moment, but he said nothing, though his body language became awkward. Newt found it hard to believe that such a man had ever been Tina's superior.

"Did you need something, Mr. Abernathy?" Tina asked, a touch of ice to her tone.

"Are you heading to the trial?"

"When it starts." Tina said, voice curt.

Abernathy nodded. Everything about this interaction was awkward and Newt wondered why Abernathy had even singled Tina out.

"So how are you doing? I heard the two of you got married a few months back."

Small talk. Perfect.

Newt still said nothing. Abernathy was pretty much ignoring him, which was fine with him. He couldn't say that he'd liked the man when they had briefly met over a year ago.

"We did. And I'm doing fine. We're on our way to see President Picquery."

"She's not in her office. She went down to talk to the Aurors before the trial starts."

"Thank you. Goodbye."

Tina turned in a slightly different direction and started to walk away. Newt gave Abernathy a nod and followed her.

"By the way -have you seen Queenie lately?" Abernathy called after them.

"No." Tina called without glancing back over her shoulder.

Newt fell into step beside her.

"I don't think he was trying to be unkind." he said to Tina.

"I know. I just don't have the patience to deal with him right now." Tina said, not looking at Newt.

She didn't seem to be at ease, being back at Macusa. Newt could only imagine it was because of the circumstances in which she had left. Plenty of people had noticed Tina and Newt saw that more than a few of them started whispering to each other when she passed. He was certain that Tina did too, but she ignored them.

They went straight to a part of the Auror department that Newt had never been to before. Picquery and several Aurors were in deep discussion there and Newt and Tina held back. Picquery saw them almost at once and dismissed the Aurors.

"Miss Goldstein. Mr. Scamander." she greeted, approaching them.

"Madam President." Tina said in return.

Newt said something along the same lines, feeling a little awkward. Even though Picquery was kind for the most past, there was something about her that always made him feel that way.

"I'm sorry that this trial has come at such an inconvenient time for you, Miss Goldstein."

"I think it would have been more so in a few weeks, Madam President." Tina had one hand on her swollen belly in the protective gesture that Newt had become so familiar with.

Picquery nodded.

"Do you intend to testify at the trial, Miss Goldstein?"

Tina nodded. "I do."

"And you, Mr. Scamander?"

"If Tina wants me to, Madam President."

Newt glanced at Tina. She nodded.

"Very well. We do not have to prosecute this wizard on the rape at all if you do not want to, Goldstein."

"Go ahead."

There seemed to be more that Tina wanted to say on the matter, but she didn't. Newt squeezed her free hand momentarily.

"When does the trial start?" he asked Picquery. "In twenty-five minutes." "Newt has to be back in London in thirty-six hours." Tina broke in. Neither of them elaborated on exactly why.

"The trial should be over well before then."

Newt was relieved, even though he was aware that wizarding trials never lasted long. The last thing he wanted was to be in Azkaband for any duration of time, let alone when Tina was giving birth.

After a brief conversation with Picquery, Newt and Tina left, heading to where the trial would be taking place. Newt took Tina's hand, noticing that her breathing had quickened.

"He won't be able to hurt you, Tina." he said.

"I know that, Newt."

Tina didn't look at him. She seemed to be focusing solely one what was straight ahead of her. She said nothing more, but the look on her face was enough to make Newt want to wrap his arm around her shoulders. But Tina wouldn't let him do that, he knew. Not because she didn't want him to exactly, but because she refused to walk into the trial with her husband making her look more scared than she already was. She did not want her rapist to view her as weak.

Newt stayed a step behind Tina and only realized where the trial was taking place when the shape of the walls shot up and changed, becoming a diagonal angle leading down the floor of the large, vaulted room ahead. The room where they had been arrested. Newt did not have fond memories of the room and wondered why such a room would be used for the trial.

But it was one of the first times that they were actually able to persecute one of Grindelwald's followers for anything. Newt felt that the Aurors and Picquery wanted to put on a bit of a show. The differences since Newt had last been in this room were obvious.

There were not nearly as many wizards gathered, not by any measure, there was no image of a dead man hovering over the room, and there was a chair with chains attached to the arms, waiting for the occupant. Newt felt it was sinister. Tina took a seat in a front row off to the side, where she wouldn't be immediately noticeable to the occupant of the chair. Newt sat down beside her. Some of the wizards already had gathered and greeted Tina. Tina was polite, but did not engage any of them in conversation. She was sitting completely still, face expressionless.

Newt sat beside her, not sure what to say or do. A few more wizards and witches entered.

Then Picquery herself arrived, taking a seat in the chair at the head of the room. Once she had settled, the room fell almost completely silent. Newt wasn't sure if it was because Picquery commanded such respect or if it was because two Aurors were approaching the room, another wizard between them.

Newt hadn't thought it was possible, but Tina stiffened even more.

Newt recognized him now, from when the rape had happened and from the dreams Tina had shown him. The man was placed in the chair where the chains instantly clamped on to him, securing him to the chair.

Picquery stood. She spoke, but the world had muted for Newt as he stared at the man, anger and a complex mixture of other emotions rising inside of him. He heard nothing of what Picquery said, but the man was sitting straight in the chair, though he twitched every now and then, presumably because of the chains.

Newt reached for Tina's hand, seeing her expression. She jerked it away. He didn't push it further. Perhaps this was something that she needed to face with Newt simply beside her.

Sound came back to Newt in a rush. Picquery was still speaking.

"You have been brought before us so that we may pass judgement on your crimes." She paused, giving the man a hard look. He stared back. There was defiance there. Newt knew most of Grindelwald's fanatics would support him to the death. "You stand accused of numerous counts of uses of Dark magic, varying in degree from minor to some of the most severe, including torture and the use of illegal curses."

The man laughed, as if he thought Picquery's words were amusing. Newt himself had tensed at them, even though the particulars of the crimes had been glossed over.

"You also stand accused of assault of an Auror of Macusa and the attack of another wizard. Furthermore, you are accused of raping the same Auror. Do you understand these charges?"

Picquery gazed down at the Dark wizard with contempt.

"Yes, Madam President." There was mockery in the wizard's voice.

"Do you deny these charges?"

"No." The man lifted his chin, smirking slightly.

Newt curled one hand into a fist. He glanced at Tina. There was still no expression on her face. That was starting to concern Newt.

The trial dragged on.

It took hours, even with evidence presented by the Aurors that had apprehended him.

Finally, they came to the rape.

Aurors that had been there when it happened had already presented evidence. Newt's memory of what happened was discussed, but not shown to the courtroom. Tina trembled slightly beside Newt. He didn't reach for her hand again, wishing that this memory didn't have to be picked apart.

Newt was then called on to explain what had happened. He stepped out, feeling awkward. There was no where for him to sit and no appointed place for him to stand.

"State your full name please." said the wizard that was transcribing the trial. Newt cleared his throat.

"Newton Artemis Fido Scamander."

Newt was fairly certain he heard a snicker from somewhere in the gathered witches and wizards, but he ignored it. A look from Picquery silenced the room. From here, Newt had to describe what had happened. He did fairly well until he got the actual rape.

"I heard Tina screaming for help."

He cleared his throat again. He didn't look at the Dark wizard or Picquery or anyone else. His gaze landed on Tina. She knew what he was going to say and she held his gaze.

"And what happened after that, Mr. Scamander?"

"I saw her. A wizard was on top of her. He punched her in the face, knocked her unconscious. He saw me and aimed a severing charm at me. I lost my wand when it struck my leg. When I got it back I Stunned him. Once I had, I got to Tina. And I saw what he had done to her. I took her to the hospital."

It wasn't the most elaborate of testimonies, but Newt felt it was better to keep it simple. There was no need to explain everything, let alone how he had felt seeing that happen to Tina.

The Dark wizard said nothing.

Picquery nodded to Newt and he sat back down beside Tina.

Now came the hardest part of all.

Tina stood and walked slowly to take Newt's place when Picquery called her forward. Her steps were confident and her head was high. Only Newt had seen the tremor go through her before she'd stood.

"State your full name." The wizard repeated his earlier words.

"Porpentina Esther Goldstein."

Tina turned her gaze to the chained wizard, her gaze unflinching. He smiled at Tina, the expression dark, eyes sliding down to her swollen belly. Tina did not look away.

She described what had happened, similar to what Newt had said. Her voice wavered as she began to describe the rape. Tina never wavered, but Newt saw a single tear spill down her face.

She retook her seat beside Newt. This time she let Newt take her hand, though it was brief.

The trial dragged on a little longer until the ruling was made. Newt was briefly wondering if Macusa believed in killing wizards with such Dark magic charges and a rape -almost unheard of in the Wizarding world- added to that. He found out the truth when the sentence was decided. With so much evidence, there was no doubt to anyone in the room that this man was guilty of everything.

"You are sentenced to prison for the remainder of your life." A witch -who Newt assumed was head of law enforcement for Macusa- announced.

Beside Newt, Tina made a noise and he looked at her. There was a look he couldn't even begin to describe on her face. Now he slid an arm around her shoulders for a few moments.

The courtroom began to empty, except for the Aurors who had escorted the wizard in, Picquery, and Newt and Tina. Newt wasn't certain why they stayed, but they did.

Tina stood and approached the wizard.

"Tina?"

Newt trailed behind her, alarmed by what she was doing. He knew she had her wand on her and suddenly that may have not been a good thing.

Tina stood in front of the wizard. He smiled at her again.

"Is that mine?" he asked, nodding at Tina's swollen belly.

Tina didn't answer and he laughed. Newt was starting to think that this man was not entirely sound of mind. Then again, most of Grindelwald's followers probably weren't.

"Why?" Tina's voice was hard, angry. "Why me? Why did you do that to me?"

"Why not?" the wizard asked, smirking.

Tina's arm jerked back. To strike, Newt saw, not to draw her wand. He grabbed for her arm, but missed. Tina's open hand snapped the wizard's head to the side. She's done it so hard every one of her fingers was clearly outlined in red against his skin.

"Miss Goldstein." Picquery's voice was not loud or even close to angry. "That is enough."

Tina held Picquery's gaze, then turned and walked out of the room. Newt held the Dark wizard's gaze for a moment, then followed her. They weren't far from it when Tina stopped and threw up. Newt stood next to her, rubbing her back as she retched. When she had stopped, Newt Vanished the mess and Tina turned to him.

"It's over, Newt." Tina whispered this. She seemed shaken, upset by her own words. "It's over." She was shaking, actually. She stared at him, letting out a shuddering breath. "It doesn't feel how I thought it would."

Since they were alone, Newt wrapped his arms around her, Tina's head tucked beneath his chin. He said nothing, just held her.

When Tina pulled away, she stepped back and used both hands to push her hair away from her face. Her hands settled on her swollen belly.

"What happens now?"

Newt wasn't sure how to respond when she looked at him as if he might have the answer.

"I don't know." he said quietly.

He wasn't sure if anything had changed for them, not really. The wizard would spend the rest of his life paying for what he had done. Newt wasn't sure knowing that would stop Tina's nightmares or anything else. But perhaps it would help. It wouldn't be hanging over them anymore, the knowledge that he was out there somewhere. It was far more complicated than Newt had ever thought it might be.

"What do you want to happen?"

"A lot of things." Tina said after a moment. "But how about we start with getting out of here?"

Her face was pale and she still looked a little sick, but there was a look of intense relief beneath it all. Newt nodded.

They did stop to briefly to speak to Picquery and arranged a Portkey for the following morning, then left Macusa. Newt was a little disoriented when they stepped outside. The trial had taken so long that night had fallen. He pulled his watch out of his pocket and looked at it.

"Do you want to get something to eat?" he asked Tina, stuffing it back into his pocket.

Tina didn't answer right away and Newt glanced at her. She was standing and staring up at the building.

"What are you thinking about?" Newt asked.

Tina shook her head.

"Nothing."

They started to walk down the sidewalk. Tina was being unusually quiet.

"Are you happy he's going to be in prison for the rest of his life?" Newt asked her, almost abruptly.

Tina frowned slightly as they kept walking down the street.

"I wouldn't say happy." she said at last. "But..." she trailed off, shaking her head. She let out a deep breath. "It feels good to know that he's not out there anymore."

Newt nodded.

Tina caressed her swollen belly briefly.

"He knows, though, Newt. That the baby is his."

Her gaze fell to the ground. She looked troubled.

"That doesn't matter, Tina. He can't do anything about it. He can't hurt it, he can't touch it. He'll never know it or see it." Newt said, touching her arm.

It pained him to see the fear in Tina's eyes.

"I know."

They were silent until Newt brought up the subject of dinner, though there weren't many places still open.

"We can go to the apartment." Tina suggested.

Newt had forgotten that Tina had left her and Queenie's apartment intact. He wondered at sneaking past the landlady. He still wasn't certain she knew about their marriage.

"She goes to bed early, most nights." Tina said, tone slightly teasing, as if reading his thoughts as easily as Queenie could.

They stopped to buy ingredients for a simple dinner and went to the apartment. It felt empty, cold, and lonely after being empty for so many months. Newt prepared dinner and Tina lit a magical fire, chasing away some of the cold, empty feeling. They talked a little as they ate. Newt felt like they had the night Tina had come home from the hospital.

The conversation may have been inappropriate to the situation and what had just happened today, but at the same time there was no point of dwelling on it.

After dinner, they went to bed early. Newt and Tina slept together in Tina's bed. It was a little cramped, but Newt just pressed closer to Tina, sliding his arms around her.

"I'm proud of you." he said to her when the room was dark and they were simply laying together.

"For what?" Tina asked, snuggling closer to him. She yawned as she spoke.

"Facing him. I'm not sure how many people would have been able to do that."

"I needed to."

"Though I'm not so sure hitting him was the way to go."

"He deserved it." Tina said.

"He did." Newt agreed.

"But that doesn't mean you should have done it. You're lucky you weren't charged." Tina said nothing.

When they both fell asleep, Newt was still holding her close. He was when Tina jerked in his arms later that night. She had rolled over to face him at some point in the night and Newt rubbed her back gently.

"Tina." he said gently.

"Wake up, Tina. Wake up."

He felt Tina wake up rather than saw it.

"Newt?" Tina's voice was muddled with sleep.

"Are you okay?" Newt rubbed her upper arms gently.

"It wasn't so much of a nightmare as the others." Tina said quietly.

"Good."

Newt pressed a kiss to her forehead. He could feel the baby stirring beneath her skin from how closely they were pressed together. Newt thought Tina had fallen back asleep when she spoke again.

"I think we're going to be okay." she whispered.

The words encompassed so much and the fact that Tina had feared the wizard being free more than Newt had known.

"I think we will be too."

Author's Note: The trial was based off of the only Wizarding trials we saw in The Goblet of Fire and The Order of the Phoenix. My take away from them is that Wizarding trials are quick and to the point. I hope you all like the justice that was served.
