Preperations
~Next Day at Torrington Academy-Principle Pebbleton's Office-12:12 PM~
After giving it some careful consideration and thinking long and hard about it, Diana came to a final decision to transfer too the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters. True that it was sudden to switch schools unexpectedly but this was Diana's decision. She had to get help with her mutation since Martin wasn't going to be helpful. He made it clear that he did not care for Diana or her situation. He only cared about himself and making a fool out of her. Why stay where she wasn't needed when Diana could go somewhere too people who actually bothered to care? At least she hopped based on the note she read when she got the watch. Sometimes you have to take a chance. That is why Diana was in Principle Pebbleton's office to discuss her immediate transfer.
Diana was discussing to Pebbleton how she had gotten an offer from another school and would be leaving Torrington. At first Pebbleton was surprised by Diana's sudden desire to transfer. He always saw Diana as a model student who was always at the top of each class and had a bright future ahead of her. Hearing that she wanted to leave nearly knocked him from his chair. Sure he could make the transfer happen but he wanted to know why she wanted to leave all of a sudden. For Diana to explain this she would have to be honest while spreading little white lies. Couldn't give away too much information. Her mutation had too stay a secret. For her explination for wanting to transfer Diana simply stated that she needed a change. She wanted to further her education, meet new people, but most of all she wanted to get away from Martin. She didn't say that last part but she was thinking it. Pebbleton tried to understand Diana's need to transfer, he just hated seeing a great student leave. But who was he to deny a student's request? He said he would have to talk to the person in charge of the Institute, Charles Xavier. That way everything would be ready for Diana's leave.
Leaving the office Diana made her way back too her bedroom. She had tons of packing to do for when she would make her department. Since it was lunch time she thought now was a good time to get started. Away from everyone in her own private quarters. No one would bother her, she hoped. Arriving in her room Diana took out her suitcases kept in her closet to begin packing. Seeing as she was alone Diana was thinking of using her tail to speed up packing. Just as she was about to deactivate her watch there came a knock on the door. Who could that be? Diana went up too her door but was soon met with the door opening and nearly hitting her in the face. Luckily, she quickly stepped back avoiding the collision. Coming face-to-face with her unexpected guest, Martin.
"Hey Di are yo-Oh you are here." Martin said. Apparently he had been looking for her but wasn't expecting to find her in her bedroom. "Hey hope I didn't catch you at a bad time. Look there's something I want to talk to you about."
"There's nothing to talk about Martin. I want you out of my room, now." Was all Diana had to say as she focused on packing her personal belongings into her bags.
"Hey what's up? Are you going on a trip somewhere?" Martin took notice of the suitcases on Diana's bed.
"Why do you care? I'm just your personal punching bag so I don't have to tell you anything if I don't have to." Diana told him not looking up from her packing. "Not going to tell you again, get out of my room."
"Okay, okay your still angry with me. I get it I was acting like a big jerk yesterday and I may have gone a tad too far with that slap." Martin said rubbing the back of his neck. "Look Diana I'm really, really sorry for slapping you and for pulling that prank on you the day before."
Diana said nothing but focused on her work.
"Come on Di you giving me the silent treatment now? Seems a little out of character for you." Said Martin with no reply from Diana. "Aw come on say something, anything. Look I'll even let you slap my face." He said leaning his face closer to Diana. "Go ahead go crazy."
But still Diana said nothing. It was like she was ignoring his existence while she packed her belongings. She wanted nothing to do with Martin's presence.
"Diana? Still waiting on that free slap." Martin stayed where he was. Awaiting for a slap from Diana which never came. Just when Martin was about to say something Diana stopped him by putting a hand in front of his face. Giving him a look that said more then any words could but she went ahead and spoke.
"I'm going to be blunt with you Martin, I am done. I have had enough of your pranks, your rude remarks, everything. I'm through being a punching bag and a doormat you can walk on. I have tried to apologize countless times to you but you refuse to accept it." "I tried asking you for help but you refused to listen. Well now I'm done and I'm being transferred to another school. Now I won't have to deal with you anymore."
Martin was silent for a moment when Diana had finished speaking. He thought that maybe this was a joke or Diana was making things up to get him to leave her room. But when Martin looked into Diana's eyes he could see that this wasn't a joke nor did it seem like she was making this up. Perhaps this was a serious response? How would Martin reply to this? The usual way he usually replies to Diana.
He let out a small chuckles. "Okay Diana your obviously still upset with me but there's no need to make up such a ridiculous story about leaving Torrington. You tried doing that before and you know what it got you."
Despite what Martin was saying Diana paid little attention to it. No longer would she hear Martin explain his actions to her. She was through listening to anything he had to say. Why waste time with someone who did not want to help? It was unhealthy. No good for Diana's health. She had to get away from Martin, from Torrington, from the Center. As soon as her bag was pack and closed Diana started packing her second bag much to Martin's distress.
"Come on Diana hear me out. We can talk about this." That was a mistake to say to one who is already furious and annoyed by her brother's presence. Slowly Diana turned her head to face Martin. A dark grim look on her face when she looked directly at Martin who got chills immediately when he saw Diana's facial expression.
"You want to talk? You want to talk?" Diana stopped what she was doing. Her whole body now turned to Martin. "I'm sorry did I hear you correctly? You want to talk to me? You're actually bothering to talk to me now? Are you kidding me?! Get out of my room!" Having nothing more to say Diana shoved Martin out the door slamming it behind him. This was more than enough proof for Martin to realize that Diana wasn't in the mood to talk.
Upset Martin brushed himself off, gave the door one more look before walking away. He wasn't going to reach through Diana. It was clear she was in a grumpy mood. Grumpy enough that she yelled and shoved him out. Okay maybe grumpy wasn't the correct word to describe Diana's behavior; and then there was that whole packing thing because she was going to transfer. Diana did not appear to be kidding around with that. Though Martin kept thinking this was some sort of payback. Hard to tell by Diana's expression. Whether it was a joke or not Martin was going to give Diana some space for a while. Might as well grab some lunch before the cafeteria closed.
With Martin out of the way Diana took a moment to collect herself. She leaned against the door taking a couple deep breathes. Her heart was pounding from the anger she released. She could hardly control herself around Martin. Had she not kicked him out of her room she would have let her secret slide. Can't have Martin find out; especially hen he made it clear that he did not care for her. Taking those deep breathes, Diana pulled herself together. Walking back to her bed, looking over her second suitcase. She had just started packing when Martin asked to talk. Diana was still wrapping her mind over what had happened these past couple days.
One minute your a not-so normal girl helping fight against the paranormal then the next minute you suddenly turn back into a mutant and are leaving everything behind. Thinking about it Diana should have left a while back but something inside of her was telling her to stay put. Things could only get better with time. Obviously that part of her needed a reality check. People like Martin don't change. Your past can still come to haunt you. Life can be cruel. And yet life was about giving second chances to those fortunate enough to deserve it. This was Diana's second chance at a fresh start. A chance to redeem herself by learning from her mistakes and make new friends and hopefully get help for her mutation. Hopefully Charles Xavier's spoke the truth, but if he was lying why give her the watch to hide her mutation? Obviously he wanted to help her which was ore than Martin would do.
As soon as things were settled with Pebbleton, Diana would be on her way. Just had to get approval which she had a good feeling. True a part of her would miss Torrington and Jenny and Java and Billy but Diana had made up her. mind. They would be better without her. She had caused enough trouble for the guys and she didn't want to worry Jenny with problems she couldn't talk about. Then it hit her. The Center. Diana would have to leave the Center. Then again that wasn't an issue.
Clearly there was no reason for her to stay. She had caused enough damage for one lifetime. Time to move forward. Perhaps the new location she was going would be welcoming? She would come to realize that this was a new opportunity for her. It would take a while to grow accustomed to this new life but it would be alright. Things happen for a reason. Everything happening now was all for good reason. Was it for the right reason? Supposedly Diana would find out with time. Hopefully this was a good decision. She carried out with her packing. She did not pack everything because she was likely going to stay here at Torrington for a while until she got the clear from Pebbleton. Hopefully she would not have to wait very long. The sooner she left her past behind the better.
(Later that Day)
As uncomfortable being around everyone as she felt, Diana sucked it up and went about her classes. She tried to ignore the stares and whispers from the other students. She could hear they talking behind her back about the incident in the cafeteria a few days ago. How couldn't they. Martin's practical joke was the talk of the whole school. As was Diana's humiliation. All she could do was ignore everyone and hold her head up high. She would not let herself be a victim to stupidity, ignorance, and humiliation. And the sooner she left Martin the better. The reply of Xavier and Pebbleton would be a dream come true. A sigh of relief escaped from Diana's mouth. She had been through so much lately it felt like an eternity of pain. Perhaps that was too much over thinking? It was, her mind had just been clouded with thoughts on Martin and her mutation. It seemed silly to overthink such nonsense that already happened.
Diana was not one too overthink a situation this much. Apparently this had more of an affect on her then she thought. Couldn't wrap her mind around the situation(s). How could she wrap her mind around everything? Maybe this Xavier fellow would know how to help ease her mind? If only he were here now. Perhaps he would know how to make her disappear? No, no that was ridiculous thinking such nonsense. Her mind was being fogged with worry. Perhaps leaving her room wasn't such a good idea? It felt odd being out surrounded by so many eyes. Hearing the mumbling whispers from everyone around her. No, she had to be out here. Hiding from her fears wouldn't put an end to them. If she stayed hidden that would only prove that Martin had gotten the better of her. No, she would not let Martin get the better of her. Not now nor ever again. As soon as possible she would be out of this school, far away from the annoyance that is her brother.
Until then she would have to put up with the whispers and eyes upon her. The cafeteria she would try to avoid. That was one area Diana would not go in just yet. Being in that room brought the painful memories of the event from the previous day. If she wanted food she would ask Jenny to bring her meals in a doggie bag. It didn't bother Diana, she could spend the extra time in her room clearing out more of her belongings. As Diana was making the necessary preperations to move out she knew she would have to break the news to Jenny, Java, and Billy. Unless Martin opened his big mouth and told them. He probably did which meant Diana was going to have to explain herself too the trio. In fact she wasn't going too wait very long. On her way back too her room she was stopped by Jenny who was joined by Billy and Java. Who had a lunch aid cover him while he joined the duo.
"Diana is it true, are you really leaving Torrington?" Jenny began with a look of concern and doubt in her eyes. "It can't be true. Tell me this is another one of Martin's stupid jokes."
But when Diana didn't reply back as fast as she usually did; and looking at her facial reaction was enough of an answer for Jenny. At first she was silent. She did not speak for almost a full minute. Java gave Jenny a gentle shake on the shoulders to bring her back to reality.
"Your leaving Torrington? This isn't a joke?" Jenny was in disbelief and she wasn't the only one.
Java and Billy looked at Diana with blank expressions on their faces. They didn't have to say anything. What could they say? It never occurred to them that Diana would leave Torrington. Never in a million years. Probably sounds ridiculous out loud but this was a moment the trio never gave any thought to. How does one react too a situation where a friend is leaving? What emotions would they use to express themselves?
Diana spoke up hoping to get this sorted out. "Okay look I know I should have told you guys what I was doing. Keeping this a secret was a mistake but you need to understand I have dealt with all kinds of bullshit from Martin and his latest prank was where I drew the line. I am not going to sit by and allow my brother to push me around or make a fool of me anymore." "I know it sounds like I'm just running away but its not like that. I can't explain it but please understand I need to get away. Least till I can get things sorted out for myself."
"But too leave Torrington? Where are you going too go?" Jenny asked Diana. "I mean what's the name of this school you are transferring too?"
"Its called 'The Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters' and it is in New York. Can't say I know much about the school but it sounds like just the kind of place for me." Diana replied.
"Will you come back Diana?" Asked Java.
"Given time I might but only when Martin decides to apologize, and he needs to give me a real honest apology." Diana told him. "He needs to get it through his head that his pranks have gone too far and his actions come with consequences." "He either learns or doesn't but I am not sticking around."
"Oh I hate saying goodbye to friends. I can't help but grow emotional when this happens." Billy said as he felt tears building up in his eyes.
"Oh Billy..." Diana gave him a big hug. "I'm not leaving just yet I assure you. When I do leave I will tell you guys the time and place to meet me. I know this isn't easy. Believe me this isn't easy for me either but this is something I have to do. I am going through some changes. Changes I can't explain right now."
"Changes?" Java asked.
"Uh its a personal matter Java that's all I can say." Diana replied. "Please respect my privacy. I have been going through a lot these past couple weeks. I have had to wrap my mind over everything I have had to deal with from Martin. It is time for a change. If I stay here I'll only get hurt by Martin more."
"I get it Diana but are you sure this is what you want? Is this really what you want?" Jenny asked her.
Diana took a moment before answering Jenny. "Yeah, yeah I'm sure Jenny. Martin is only bringing me negativity and there are things I need to work out on my own. Maybe I will return too Torrington given time but please understand that I have to leave for now." Putting a hand on Java's shoulder Diana gave him a gentle smile to reassure him. Just her way of saying things would be alright.
Java felt a little better after seeing Diana's soft smile. As long as he wasn't losing his friend forever he felt a heavy weight lifted from his shoulders.
"Uh Diana could I ask you a question, in private?" Asked Billy.
Diana had a feeling she knew what he wanted to ask her. She nodded and went to the side to talk to Billy. Her theory was correct. Billy wanted to know what Diana planned to do about her job at the Center. To put it simply Diana's reply to him was that M.O.M was going to have to start looking for a replacement. Diana had more than enough of her fill working at the Center; and it was clear that M.O.M did not care whether Diana stayed or left. Billy tried to tell Diana that M.O.M was just under some stress after the attack and getting the Center back in proper order. Diana wanted to believe him, really she did but she knew better.
She apologized to Billy telling him that this was her choice and it was clear that M.O.M wasn't just under stress. She told Billy she would hand in her resignation letter before she left. Until then there was no need to tell M.O.M what was about to happen until Diana was ready to go. Besides there was enough on her plate already. Why bother adding more to it? With that said and done Diana decided to take her leave for her dorm room.
