Chapter 8
Detective Work
~Torrington Academy-Martin's Room-6:45 PM~
Diana had only been gone for a day and Martin had resorted to snooping around in her old dorm room. There was something rotten in the state of Denmark. While he didn't have all the answers Martin was going to get to the bottom of this mystery. After discovering an email addressed to Diana by a gentleman named Charles Xavier. Whoever that was. Mentioned something about mutants or whatever. Honestly, Martin was only paying half attention when he looked through the email. The word mutant stood out enough for him to take an interest in his sisters business.
Firstly, he would have to conduct his own research into this. Just who was Charles Xavier and how did he know Diana? It was doubtful that Xavier and Diana knew each other. It was doubtful that Xavier was a friend of their dad's. So exactly who was this man and what were his intentions for Diana? Martin was in the computer lab sitting in front of a computer. Not the special one used during his paranormal investigations. He typed in the name Charles Xavier into the computer. Within seconds Martin got several results. Which Charles was the Charles Martin seek? There was only one way to find out, Martin would have to click one every result, read through the profiles, then go from there.
The best place to start was from the top. Clicking the first name, Martin scrolled through the page to read the important information or read whatever sounded suspicious. This is Martin Mystery we are talking about. He's a man of action. A man of paranormal knowledge. A man who'll get easily bored if he doesn't find anything that screams interest. He may as well do his homework if he finds nothing good. Hopefully he finds something worthy of his time or else this would have all been for nothing. According to the internet, one Charles Xavier was the owner and founder of a school. Suppose that was a common job according to Martin. Nothing out of the ordinary. Reading further down the article it explained how Charles took in children who had special gifts. Perhaps it was for kids with special needs? It could mean anything.
There was nothing else in the article that was of use to Martin. Nothing that could point this Xavier gent wasn't what he seemed; but this was only the beginning of the search. Martin wasn't giving up this soon. Just because this article had nothing of specific use to him didn't mean it was a waste of time. He gained some new knowledge on Xavier and the school he ran. With the name of the school put down in the article, Martin could do some more investigating on the school. There was bound to be some dirt on the school. All Martin had to do was find and use it to his advantage. Typing in the name of the school Martin did what he did with Xavier. Clicking on the first article Martin read through finding nothing. Nothing that he could use to his advantage. Perhaps this was a waste of time?
Letting out a deep sigh Martin ran his fingers through his hair. This was not as easy as he thought. Looking for dirt could have gone a lot better. There had to be something on Xavier. Something he could uncover to use as an excuse to bust someone. Whoever this man is, truly is, he had something to do with Diana's sudden departure. While Martin was still unsure how Diana could be persuaded by a stranger he would get to the bottom of this, expose Xavier and bring his sister home. It was obvious that Diana must have been brainwashed or hypnotized or she was being an idiot, again. Whatever the reason Martin was going to put a stop to it.
Since the internet gave partial information, Martin would need to go to the source. He would have to find and visit the school in person. Typing the name of the school in Google Search Martin searched for the location of the school. Unfortunately, there was no given address to the school. No address, no spying.
Martin slammed his fists down on the table in frustration. There was nothing he could do. No way of finding and bringing Diana back. Funny how he could track down beasts, fight off a hoard of zombies, take down ferocious man-eating plant and defeat aliens but he couldn't find his sister. What kind of investigator was he? What could he do? Should he tell someone? No, Billy and Java were mad at him already so they were out. He was tempted to call his dad but afraid of getting a lecture from him and his mom. There was M.O.M. but what could she do? Besides, it wasn't like Diana was in danger and in need of immediate rescuing.
Martin was on his own for this investigation. At least he had some information that could be useful later but at the moment not so much. What to do, what to do? He was stumped. Martin had no idea what to do. Then again did he even want Diana to come back? Without Diana around there was no one to annoy him with her constant nagging or telling him what to do. No one breathing down his neck to correct him whenever he did something wrong. Honestly was this such a bad thing? Why not live the good life and enjoy a Diana free life?
Turning off the computer, pushing his chair back, Martin got up from the computer and walked out of the computer lab. He decided to head back to his room for some well deserve rest.
