Everyone had been split up by Dragon's counter of the Red King Wave. They were all in various parts of the planet, some friends with others, and some stuck with their foes.
Oran woke up in the middle of a frozen tundra. He looked around and tried to see what was going on when suddenly he noticed Rose sitting next to a small fire. Oran was suddenly filled with a hatred for the girl and stood up preparing to blast her when Rose stood as well and held up her hands.
"Please don't. Can we just talk?" She asked gingerly.
"What do you want?" Oran growled.
Rose took a deep breath and began talking in a soft voice. "we…we need to work together."
"What the hell are you taking about?"
"Whatever that thing was that attacked you and your brothers is clearly your enemy. And since he wants to annihilate the human race he's our enemy too. And the enemy of my enemy is my friend." Oran looked at her with a confused and annoyed look. "Hey, I'm not happy about it either! But you and I are both weak right now. Our energy is low and it'll take time to recover. We need each other to survive out here."
"Speak for yourself, I don't need anyone!"
"Oh really? Then which way would you go to get back to your brothers?"
Oran opened his mouth to talk before realizing he had no scouter, and no clue where his brothers were. "Look, even if I wanted to work alongside weaklings like you or your friends, what the hell would be the point. Dragon's power level is 30,000,000. Even if my brothers and I wanted to work with you all of us together would still be 80 times weaker than Dragon. And besides, what's in it for us?"
"Not getting killed by that jerk seems like a pretty good deal." Rose pointed out.
Oran wanted to argue but he couldn't. "F-fine! But don't think this makes us friends. And don't expect my brothers to be as easily persuaded as me. If any of your friends ended up stranded with them they've probably already started trying to fight them."
"Okay. But we'll stick together." Rose agreed quickly.
Oran was surprised by her sudden change in attitude. "You're acting strange. Why are you so willing to work with someone who was trying to kill you?"
"I guess, I don't think you're really all that bad."
"That kind of attitude is exactly why so many have been killed by my brothers and I." Oran snapped back.
"Well I have really good instincts, and my instincts say I can trust you." Rose smiled.
"Just remember, I'm going to be keeping an eye on you. You and your friends will help me and my brothers get home, or die trying." Oran warned.
Rose's smile faded as she realized what he meant. She sat back down by the fire and Oran sat across from her.
"What will you do? I mean if you and your brothers get back to your home?"
"We'll warn the rest of the Saiyan race. Rally our troops and destroy Heeta's army. He's kept the Saiyan's under his boot for far too long!" Oran said with a dark tone in his voice.
"And then what? What happens after you win? Will you return to Earth, and try to kill us?" Rose asked with a hint of fear in her voice.
Oran chuckled and shook his head. "I suppose not. Once Lord Heeta's gone we'll have no more reason to conquer planets. But I may come back to make you pay for what you did to me with that sneak attack earlier." Oran said with a laugh.
Suddenly Oran felt a pain in his leg. Rose ran over and began examining it.
"There's a large gash in your leg. How did you get hurt?" Rose asked with concern.
"Must have happened while I was fighting Dragon. The bastard got us good! Once my brothers and I are healed we'll kill him!"
"Are you sure? It's like you said, you and your brothers aren't nearly as strong as him." Rose asked nervously.
"Don't worry about it! We'll fight that bastard a thousand times until we win!" Oran said confidently.
"You seem awfully confident." Rose noted.
"It's because I am! We Saiyans a proud race and I won't let some disgusting freak like Dragon get away with what he did. Besides, we Saiyans have a special trait. It's called a Zenkai Boost. Whenever we're badly injured or beaten within an inch of our lives our power level grows! Even if Dragon beats us a thousand times we'll just keep coming back stronger!"Oran announced proudly.
"So how long will it take for you and your brothers to heal?" Rose asked.
"About a day, maybe two for myself. For them it depends how badly they got injured."
"Well we need to stop the bleeding or you won't get better." Rose said as she reached for Oran's sleeve.
"What are you doing?" Oran asked curiously.
"I don't know anything about healing wounds, but I do know how to use a bandage." She tore the sleeve of Oran's leotard and wrapped the fabric around his leg to try and stop the bleeding. "That should do it." Rose said happily.
Oran looked down at the bandage.
"How did you learn how to do that? Were you trained by whoever helped you get so strong?" Oran asked.
"No, I wasn't. I learned from my mother."
"Your mother?" Oran asked surprised.
Rose nodded. "She used to work as a nurse in a hospital. She had to help save so many people that she became quite skilled in medical science."
Oran stood up and flew into the sky. There was nothing but snow and trees for miles. He knew he couldn't possibly find his way around without Rose, so he'd have to stick with her for now. At least until they'd healed enough to travel on their own. Then Oran could figure out how to get back to his brothers.
After a few hours the fire had began to go out so Rose asked Oran to gather more firewood. While he was looking Oran had been thinking about having to team up with the humans. He didn't want to have to work with people who could so easily betray him, especially not that girl. She had already angered him several times and his tolerance of her was small. Oran decided that once Dragon was defeated he and his brothers would go home and then stay far away from Earth.
The next morning Oran woke up feeling refreshed. He was glad to have gotten some sleep even if it was on the snow covered floor. His body was still sore but it felt much better than it had been yesterday. Rose was still sleeping next to the fire and Oran decided to let her rest while he went to get more firewood. After a few minutes Oran was frustrated by not being able to find any wood on the floor so he punched a tree into pieces.
"What are you doing? Don't you think you should be searching for food or something?" Rose asked groggily as she sat up.
"I'm sure we'll find something soon. It doesn't matter anyway, I'm almost healed then we can start moving." Oran answered as he continued to break apart the tree. Rose began trying to light the fire again but it had started to snow. "What's wrong?" Oran asked.
"It's too cold. I can't start a fire." Rose said in frustration.
Oran scoffed and held out his palm, using an energy blast to light the wood on fire. Rose watched as the flames grew into a roaring blaze.
"I…guess that works. So what was that you were saying about finding food?" Rose asked.
"That doesn't matter, we need to find shelter. I doubt there's many animals around here. And it looks like the snow is not going to let up, so we'll have to find a cave to hide in." Oran explained.
"Cave? Well, that sounds safe enough. We should be able to find one before nightfall." Rose said optimistically.
Oran nodded and they began walking towards the mountains in search of a cave. They walked through the forest for most of the day and finally came across a large cave in a cliff face. Oran flew up to the entrance and looked inside. The cave was nearly pitch black, but they could just make another fire. Rose flew up next to him carrying some firewood.
"Come on! Let's get this fire started. It'll be dark soon and we don't want to get caught out here in the open." Rose said excitedly as she set up the fire wood.
Oran walked into the cave, lit the fire, and turned back to Rose. "Now what?"
"We should probably sleep here tonight. Then we can wake up early tomorrow and leave." Rose suggested.
Oran nodded in agreement. Rose laid down on the ground and tried to get some sleep, but the fire was weak and the snowy winds were strong. She was incredibly cold and couldn't stop shivering. Oran felt a little warmer but couldn't fall asleep. He sat down leaning against the wall and looked at Rose. With a sigh Oran moved and sat down next to here.
"Come here, we should stay close so we don't freeze to death."
Rose looked at Oran and sat up, cuddling up close to him. Oran wrapped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her closer.
"You're warm. Thank you, Oran." Rose whispered quietly.
Oran scoffed. "Don't mention it. Now try to get some sleep."
Rose smiled and fell asleep in his arms. Oran sat there staring at her. Her hair was a beautiful brown and her skin was pale. Oran felt a strange feeling. He didn't know what it was, but it made him want to protect Rose. Oran looked over at the fire and saw that it was beginning to die down. Rose began to stir and Oran knew he needed to get some sleep before the fire died completely. He relit the fire with another energy blast and then fell asleep.
Rose awoke with a start. The fire had gone out and she was freezing. She was so exhausted though that she decided to try to fall asleep again. She noticed how closely Oran was holding her and blushed. She never thought she'd be in this situation. Oran and his brothers had been trying to kill her a couple of days ago, and now here they were cuddling alone in a cave.
As Rose was about to drift back to sleep she heard a noise. She opened her eyes and saw Oran standing over her. She quickly sat up, and went to exit the cave.
"Where are you going?" Oran asked confused.
"I'm going to find some more wood! I can't stand this cold anymore!" Rose answered angrily.
"We'll survive. You should try to get some rest." Oran said calmly.
"I'm not tired!" Rose insisted.
"Then sit and try to relax. You're no use to me if you exhaust yourself. Try to get some sleep and we'll start moving again after it gets dark." Oran said.
"Fine!" Rose shouted.
With a sigh Rose sat down and laid her head back down on the ground.
This women is insufferable, Oran thought to himself. But he also couldn't help but feel a strange attraction towards her. Maybe he should just let her do what she wants. If anything she's shown herself to be useful in getting back to the others.
For the next hour Rose tried to get some rest, but it was impossible. There was no way she could get any sleep while Oran was sitting right next to her. She kept glancing over at Oran every so often. He always seemed to be watching her and seemed very interested in what she was doing.
"Why do you keep staring at me?" Rose asked with an attitude.
"I was wondering why you were so upset when I first woke up. I thought you were mad at me for waking you up." Oran answered honestly.
Rose scowled and crossed her arms. "I was mad about you trying to tell me what to do!"
Oran raised an eyebrow. "Telling you what to do? Why would that make you angry?"
Rose rolled her eyes and sighed. "Just shut up and leave me alone. I'm trying to sleep and you keep staring at me!"
Oran didn't say anything but continued to stare at her. He wanted to tell her that he wasn't really staring at her, but he realized that she might think he was lying.
Rose looked up at Oran and tried to ignore him. She figured he was just trying to annoy her. She was too tired to argue with him, so she closed her eyes and tried to fall back asleep.
