Hi, so this is my first story for this pairing and I have to admit I am liking it so far so let's see where it goes! I hope you all enjoy this story and this chapter.
Leah is criminally underused and criminally treated. She's the Rosalie of the Wolf Pack. Seriously the shit that she goes through because she's not skipping at the idea of being Emily's maid of honour (and seriously what the fuck possessed Emily to ask that? Like seriously Stephanie). So this story is a love letter to Leah.
I also have a huge amount of respect for Embry's Mom. Not sorry. Also I know she has a different name in the books to here but here she is Layla and she was seventeen when she got pregnant.
Also on Embry's father...I know a lot people assume it is Joshua Uley but somehow that seems to nice and neat, I also think it's pretty ironic, that both Jacob and Quill end up being friends with a kid who might be their half brother. So my views on Embry's Dad is that is has to be one of them and I do tend to lead towards Billy just for reasons I can't name. The council bit deciding whose parents should know and who doesn't is my own and I know it does not correlate with the books but then again this whole story is AU so (shrugs), I just think it's a fun angle to explore that everyone is terrified with who Embry's father could be.
Again, all of this is my own design, the characters belong to someone else, I am just playing in my writers box.

A First Time For Everything
Chapter 6-Fear Her
As the Pack begin to defend the Cullen's Embry finally calls his mother braving the inside of the Cullen house to do so. It goes as well as he expected it to.
Defending the Cullen's was not as hard as he thought it would be. Actually it was quite nice.
"Once you get over the smell" Seth said one day as they were nosing their way through the undergrowth and Embry nodded. The smell was bad but he found that he was getting sensitised to it over the course of the days.
"Can you two quit it?"
"Sorry Jacob"
"Honestly Jacob it's such a lovely day"
That was Leah and all of them turned to stared to look at her, she was practically skipping with every step her glee at being away from the rest of the pack still prominent and joyous and it was almost infectious. In fact it would have been had it not been Leah and had it not been so unusual. And the situation not been so dire…
Yeah that was it.
"It's odd seeing you like this" Jacob said rather distrustfully.
"I think it's nice" Seth said grinning even in wolf form. "I haven't seen you like this for a long time Leah, it suits you"
And there it was, the genuine love that Seth had for his sister reflecting down their mental channel. Even though he was not thinking about them Jacob's mind drifted a little to Rachel and Rebecca and Embry scuffed the dirt with his paw digging his claws in and overturning the fresh soil so that he was distracted from the aching knowledge that they were feeling something that he couldn't understand.
He carried on with his run picking up the pace and trying to out run his thoughts when he heard Jacob stop. He turned to face his oldest friend who had paused big eyes scanning the tree line. Seth and Leah went on ahead and Embry darted back.
"Sam?"
"No. Him" was all Jacob said and Embry knew who he was talking about. There was only one person who had ever been known as Him to Jacob Black and that was Edward Cullen. Embry raised an eyebrow. He had learnt a long time ago that whenever Jacob got like this it was better for him to let Jacob finish rather than interrupt him.
Jacob stared down at the figure of Edward Cullen on the porch of the Cullen house and Embry knew from the emotions flowing from his friend that it was a toss up between carrying on with his patrol and going down and seeing what was happening two things that Jacob was struggling with and Embry could understand why. One the one hand they had to finish patrolling to make sure that they were done when it came to tightening up the gaps that Sam might exploit (the Cullen's had either been naïve when they had bought this place or they had genuinely not thought that the wolves were a threat because security wise it was shocking) and yet at the same time he wanted to go down because there had to be a legitimate reason why Edward was detaching himself from Bella at this time.
"What did you do?" Embry asked him quietly so that Leah and Seth who were in the process of coming back and meeting them couldn't overhear. "What did you promise him that you would do?"
"Nothing?"
"Jacob—"
"Nothing he doesn't want" Jacob amended with a short grin and yeah, Embry didn't know what to make of that but he knew it wasn't good. He knew that nothing come from this was good and though he hated to be the kind of man who blamed the woman for all the worlds problems he had a flash of utter annoyance that this woman couldn't stop hurting everyone and everything around her just for the sake of love…he didn't know what kind of love that Edward and Bella had, if it was like imprinting or not but he thought that if it was then he didn't want it. There was nothing to admire about this relationship, nothing whatsoever, this was too people undoubtably in love but so selfish in it that they didn't care who they hurt and while Embry admired the idea of a romantic he didn't think this was what Shakespeare had, had in mind.
"I should go" Jacob said completely ignoring the train of Embry's thought though he could hear Leah crowing in his head. "He's waiting for me"
"If it wasn't urgent then it can wait surely?" Leah said from afar her tone waspish again (as it always was when she thought of Bella Swan he noted with a flicker of amusement)
"Nice to have you back"
"Bite me"
Seth snorted and Jacob snarled at them both.
"I should go"
"You want me to go with you?"
"He's just standing there Jake you'd think if it was urgent then he would come out and find us."
"He's expecting us to go after him" Leah said disdainfully. "Make him come to us Jake were not his pack mules that come at the call of a whistle"
Had it been any other situation and anything other than concern over Bella fucking Swan or whatever her name was now then Embry knew that Jacob would have done it. He could feel the irritation coming off him in waves but then concern over Bella won out and Jacob changed back throwing on his shorts and Leah sighed as if to lament the stupidity of man.
Embry had no idea why on Earth he found it charming but he did. He had never found anything charming before but he had found this charming and all he could say was thank God that nobody had picked up on that one.
He turned his head about to go back to the trail and catch up with Leah and Seth and maybe see if he could actually outrun Leah (who delighted in being faster than all of the boys put together—as she called it—no matter what side of the line of that she lived on) when Jacob turned around and hit him dead on. There was an expression on his face that made him look less like a man and more like a teenage boy and actually aside from the burning eyes Edward looked a bit more the same. It was with two swooping feelings that Embry remembered that actually A. all of the Cullen's apart from the Doc and his wife were all teenagers (technically) and that B. he had a sneaking suspicion he knew what was making them both look at him like that.
"I think I have to go"
"Why?"
That was Leah and unless Embry was mistaken (and he was not going to mention it ever again unless he actually was) she sounded very, very concerned.
It shouldn't have made him as warm inside as it did but it did.
"You know how I left a voicemail telling my Mom everything before we left?"
"Oh shit" Leah said as Seth said "Woah you did what now?"
"I think it's about to beat me in the ass" Embry said and with that he transformed and left them to their own devices and pulling on his jeans he plodded down to the Cullen porch where Jacob and Edward Cullen were waiting on him.
"She's on the phone" Edward said in that dull monotone. "And my God she can shout"
"Yep" Embry said popping the p. He had known that this was going to walk into a shit show and to be honest he knew it was a good thing. He knew that it was a good thing that his mother knew everything. Right now he knew that he had to remember that when she started shouting.
"Please tell her to stop" Edward said again in that dull tone. "Bella is sleeping and she is highly distressed these days"
"You mean the thing is" Embry said flatly. He was not going to sugar coat anything with Edward Cullen.
Dark eyes riddled with pain met his.
"Yes" Edward said flatly his mouth curling. "The thing is very distressed. When it hears a noise it doesn't like it takes out one of my wife' s ribs"
"Where is my Mom?" he asked ignoring that one before he had to think about it a bit harder. His hands clenched into fists and he found that he was shaking at Edward's presumption.
Maybe he thought looking him dead in the eye, maybe you should have thought about her ribs before you put it in her.
Edward looked at him for a second and then his mouth quirked upwards as if he found Embry's response amusing in a terribly dark way but Embry didn't have the time on that or to care if he was being frank. He had more important things to do.
"On the phone, Carlisle is speaking to her. Emmett picked up the phone originally and ended up telling her about the…well…this…she didn't know about that, I think you council filled in the bare bones of what you told her and nothing else so Carlisle started with the treaty and it's been going since there"
Embry groaned and then stepped into the house. He felt the urge to smear his feet on the white carpet but restrained himself.
Bella had her head in Rosalie's lap and Rosalie threw him a look that wasn't very kind. Embry threw her one just right back and then he carefully didn't look at Bella. He didn't want to look at her, to be honest looking at her made him feel rather sick. Instead he looked at the other blonde in the room he was sure his name was Jasper who pointed up the stairs and he nodded walking up the wooden steps to what had to be one of the strangest floors he had ever gone into in his life.
The cross over the office was one hell of a nice touch he thought with a wry grin as he knocked on the door where the Doc's voice was coming out.
Carlisle smiled at him when he came in.
"He's here Miss Call and listen I understand more than you know I have seven of them and they drive me half mad most days so if you wish to come and see for yourself how he is doing please do not hesitate to call and we can do all that we can to make this easy for you. Believe me nobody more than me wishes that this was not happening. For your son and for mine"
And with that he passed Embry the phone patted him on the shoulder and then left closing the office door behind him and managed to smile before he picked up the phone. Jacob was right he thought as he put it to his ears, the Doc was just plain strange.
"Hi Mom"
"Embry"
It was all she said for a second and uncaring of how dirty he was Embry sat down in the big Doctor's office and he swallowed down the heartache and the longing and the loneliness. For all that he had seen and done he was still her son and his Mom was still his Mom and it had been the two of them for so long before he and now she had entered this big scary world and suddenly all he wanted was a hug from his mother.
"Embry" his Mom said again. "I don't know weather I want to hug you or shake you until your teeth rattle"
"Yeah—"
"No—no not you right now son, me, me. I am going to speak now and you are going to listen. Why in the name of all that is good and holy in this world did you not come to me the second that this happened and tell me! WHY DID I HAVE TO FIND IT OUT FROM THAT FUCKING BITCH SUE CLEARWATER AND THAT TWIT SAM ULLEY? YOU KNOW WHAT HE DID? HE TOLD ME WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND THEN PROMPLY TOLD ME TO CALM DOWN! CALM DOWN! MY ONLY CHILD TURNS INTO A WEREWOLF, HAS BEEN HUNTING DOWN VAMPIRES AND MIGHT BE ABOUT TO GET HIMSELF KILLED BECAUSE SOME HUMAN GIRL HAS GOTTEN PREGNANT AND HE TELLS ME TO CALM DOWN!"
She paused to take a breath and Embry took his chance and darted in.
"I wanted to tell you Momma I did" he said using the name that he knew she liked the best and damn it, the name he wanted to use.
"I wanted to tell you I just…first there was Sam telling me not to and then…then I knew what it would mean"
There was a long pause.
"Embry" she said using the same waspish tone that she had once reserved for socks that had not gone in the washer. "If you want to know about your father then just bloody ask me. Believe me right now I have no compunction about outing the cheating rat to everyone who knows him" she said this in such a way that made Embry wonder if she'd had a confrontation with his father since this entire thing had begun and he opened his mouth and then closed it.
"No I don't want to know" he said truthfully. "But I was afraid that other people would ask you, I was afraid that you would be forced to tell…I didn't want to be the cause of that pain for you"
For a second his mother didn't speak and then when she spoke again her voice seemed desperately sad.
"Embry…that is not your concern. That is mine. I am the mother not you. And besides…any love I felt for that man crumbled a long time ago believe me. I…you should have come to me, I always thought you could come to me with anything and now…now I found out about this…"
"That's what you care about?" he asked suddenly. "You don't mind that I can…"
"What? Transform into a giant wolf at will? Embry all I care about is you, now I will admit that I have cracked open the vodka and gone to town in a way I shouldn't have the last couple of days trying to get my brain around this but…your my son. You are always going to be my baby, and there is nothing that you can do that will change that for me. Your are my son, wolf or not you will always be my son. My love for you has not changed"
Embry leaned back on the chair and wiped his hands over his eyes and sniffed. He would not admit it, even to himself, how desperately he had been afraid.
"Thanks Momma."
"That does not mean that I do not want to whack you with a two by four for all the lying you have been doing to me young man. We have a better relationship than that we always have and so from now on I want the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth or God help you because you turning into a giant wolf and taking on vampires will not you understand me?"
"Yes Ma'am"
Shit. When his mother used that kind of tone you did what you were told.
"And don't worry about what happened to Harry Clearwater, I am in perfect health for woman of my very young age and I do not douse my food in fish fry"
"Yes Ma'am."
"I can take it Embry"
"I know you can"
She sighed.
"I won't tell you to come home" she said quietly. "I spoke to Doctor Cullen and he told me everything and I…I won't order you home. But it sounds like this…pregnancy is going to kill this girl one way or the other and as soon as it does I want you home. I don't want you sinking your teeth into anything other than a girl behind a bar do you understand me?"
God he loved his mother, he really, really loved his mother.
"Yes Momma"
"And don't think using Momma is gonna get you out of this young man, when you do eventually get home you are going to tell me everything, I don't trust Sue's turn of events at all. I want to hear about it from you do you understand me?"
"Yes"
"And I spoke to the Doctor, you are going to call me every day and let me know you are alive and well, you are going to let yourself be fed and watered, I don't care about the age old vampire, werewolf enmity crap you are going to let them take care of you. He told me you smell and likely taste disgusting so that's one weight of my mind"
Embry actually had to pull the phone away and stare at it for a second missing what happened next. He honestly could not believe her. He didn't know weather to laugh or cry he really didn't.
"Okay" he said because what else was he supposed to say to his mother who had apparently managed to get a house full of vampires to bend to her will.
"If you don't call me I am coming over and I don't care if Rosemary's Baby is coming out of that girl do you understand me?"
"Yes…Mom the council"
"Fuck the council" his mother said sternly and Embry laughed and Christ it felt so good to laugh. "If Sam or Quill or Sue want to stop me let them try, they might not give a shit about their kids but I do. And as for Billy…I have half a mind to tip him over the edge of the cliff."
There was something darker in her tone when she spoke of Billy Black but Embry didn't dare ask her why. Instead he managed a laugh again wiping his eyes. He had a funny feeling that if Sam or Paul or Jared tried to stop his Mom she would run them over with her car weather they were human or wolf and he'd pay good money to see his mother eviscerate Sue Clearwater. Come to think of it he imagined Leah would too.
"I love you Embry" his Mom said finally. "I love you so, so much"
"I love you too Momma"
"You go save this girl and then you come home to me okay?"
"Yes Momma"
"And you can come home do you understand me? Sam said you could and even if he didn't we can pack up and go somewhere else. It's you and me until the end baby you understand me?"
Embry nodded. "Thanks Mom, I love you too. Thank you"
He wanted to say a lot more than that but he didn't think he could get it out without crying. Words had never been his strong suit anyway. But his mother understood. He thought. He wished. He hoped.
His Mom hung up the phone and he put it back on Carlisle's desk and rested his head against the chair and then suddenly he was sobbing and he didn't know why.
There was a knock at the door and he looked up wiping his eyes furiously to see the Doc's wife standing there her face creased in an expression of motherly concern.
"Sorry" he said wiping his eyes but she shushed him coming to sit down on the edge of the desk and for once he did not recoil about the smell.
"I came to see if you needed anything dear" she said softly and Embry debated it for a second before he asked. She wouldn't laugh he thought, out of all of them he supposed she and the Doc were the only two that wouldn't laugh.
"I…I wanted to tell her a lot more than I could" he said quietly.
"She knows it"
He looked at her. "You think?"
"Yes dear" Doc's wife said quietly. "Mothers tend to know everything."
Embry nodded and then he was crying again and gently she rested her hand on his shoulder and he didn't throw her off. She did not come closer and he was relieved for it but he also knew that she was not judging him.
And when he eventually stopped crying he realised that was the most important bit.
In fact that was everything.
And there you go, next chapter is coming soon.
Next Chapter-Leah is...conflicted about her feelings for Embry as the two share a moment which is ruined completely by Jared arriving with a message from Sam.
