Yeaster
Yo, boys and girls, Steve here! The boss-girl would be trying something different with this tale. So she put me in charge! So let's bring back the dancing, polka-dotted flamingos!
A spirit suddenly came up behind him and slapped me on the head. I groaned and looked at the spirit as I rubbed the back of my head.
"Script," the spirit moaned and it pointed a finger at me.
I groaned at this but didn't get a chance to say anything as I heard footsteps.
"Uncly Steve," a cute voice sang.
The boss man in a "knocked-down" version of her student Molly form came into view and posed. I gushed like a geyser when I saw the outfit she was wearing.
Molly had on a pink sundress with blue splashes and white sandals. Like all the outfits the boss wears, besides her school uniform, she has a purple sweater tied around her waist.
To complete her outfit Molly was wearing her realm gate necklace resized to fit her "knocked-down" body.
Molly didn't have her hair in her usual style. Instead, she wore her hair in a ponytail like how her girlfriend wears her hair. Finally, her glasses frames were purple with a ghost decal on the right earpiece.
"OWWW!" I gushed as I ran and scooped my "knocked-down" boss in a hug. "You're just adorable! You should have done this sooner!"
"Uncly Steve…" Molly replied bashfully.
"Let's not keep your adorableness hidden!" I exclaimed. "Let's get the show on the road!"
I did a little hop and opened a portal under us using my awesome god powers. With a small cry, we fall into the portal and the story.
(SC)
We came out of the portal a second later and landed in the center of Bonesborough's market. I gently set Molly on the ground. She wibbled a bit due to the disorientating side-effect of realm jumping. She gave her head a quick shake and glared at me.
I just smiled sheepishly and looked around. My smile turned warm as I took in the sights. The market had decked out for the latest holiday, Yeaster.
From what I remember from the boss's script, Yeaster was kinda like Soulmas. The only difference was that the "death collectors" didn't come out. Instead, the holiday was more like the Mexican Day of the Dead.
During Yeasters, the dead rise with bodies to spend the day with their loved ones.
Hmm, oh, like yeast rising. I groaned as this pun came to me; my boss may be a semi-good writer, but names weren't her thing.
"Oh, hello, Steve," a kind voice said, knocking me out of my thoughts.
I looked to my right and saw the Owl Familia with Manny Noceda accompanying them and smiled. Around the human mother were the kids and the Clawthorne Sisters, all "knocked-down" and wearing their usual outfits. Molly suddenly squealed from my side and rushed over to the group.
"Sk-Sk!" my boss screamed as she hugged her little girlfriend.
"Mo-Mo!" Skara screamed gleefully.
The Nocedas and I smiled at this scene. I looked at and studied Skara. Hmm, I don't think the boss-girl had ever told you guys what Skara's "knocked-down" outfit looked like. I grinned as a thought popped into my head.
"Sprittpp!" a spirit moaned as it popped up behind him and gave me a slap to the head.
I rubbed the back of my head and glared at the spirit. The spirit just glared back and then returned to the spirit realm.
"Steve," Camila called gently. "I would like to meet my husband, Manny."
I looked at the revived human with a knowing smile and offered him my hand. Manny took my hand and gave it a good shake.
"Nice to meet you, Steve," Manny said politely.
He smiled at me with a knowing smile as well. After all, this wasn't our first meeting.
"Right back at you, Manny-boy," I replied joyously, making a finger gun with my free hand.
Camila looked at the two of us, and I could tell she was sensing something off. Thankful, the boss-girl was on top of things.
"Game! Game!" Molly screamed cheerfully.
"Game! Game!" Luz echoed with just as much energy.
Manny and I looked down at the two current children and smiled warmly.
"So," Manny said causally. "What kind of game is played on Yeaster Sunday?"
Camila looked at me, interested to know about the game as well. I smiled at the two humans and explained things.
"We have what we call the Dead Skull Hunt. Don't worry, they're not real skulls," I added when I saw the disturbed look the human parents were sporting. "They're just candy."
The human parents relaxed at this, and I went on.
"Usual how it goes, the hunters are paired in teams of two. The hunters have an hour to collect as many skulls as possible. It sounds easy, but the skulls are hidden throughout the town."
The human parents nodded, and then we heard the announcement that the game was starting. We made our way to the starting point, and we adults made small talk.
"Where's Milly?" Camila asked curiously, "I figured she would be watching her sister while she's like this?"
Okay, time to play it cool. The boss and I went over this many times before. If someone asked why Milly and Molly were never together, just give the reason that we came up with and be casual about it.
"Oh, she's busy," I replied nervously.
I looked down when I felt eyes on me and nearly gushed when I saw the cute glare the boss girl was giving me.
Thankful, I didn't have to suffer long under the adorableness as we reached the start area. We made it just in time for the game's official to begin to explain the game.
"For all newcomers, here is how the game's played. We have hidden a total of 400 candy skulls throughout the town. Teams of two have an hour to collect as many skulls as possible."
The official paused to allow the gathering to absorb everything they said and then went on.
"Now the rules; witchings eight and under are to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Also, you may use magic, but keep it simple; you may use it to reach skulls that are high up. You can't, however, use magic to interfere with others. If you use oracle magic; you can't use your spirit to get through walls!"
I heard my boss groan and smile as the kids began to form their groups. I wasn't surprised Lumity got together, same as my boss and Skara, or Skally as I had taken to calling them.
"Papa! Papa!" I heard Luz scream.
I looked at the "knocked-down" human and saw that she was gently pulling on her father's arm. Manny wore a gentle smile as she leaned down slightly.
"Yes, Mija?" Manny asked gently.
"Come, come!" Luz exclaimed happily.
Manny understood what his daughter was saying and nodded. He then looked at his wife apologetically, and Camila smiled with understanding. She walked up to her husband and gave him a quick peck on the cheek.
"It's okay, Mi Amor," Camila said softly. "Go and have a good time."
Manny smiled lovingly at his wife and leaned in for a kiss. Hmm, I think that the boss wouldn't mind if I went off the script and have a little something extra and made a little-ow.
I rubbed the back of my head and glared at the spirit that just slap me.
"Scripptt, PG-13!" it moaned and pointed at me.
"Don't you have anything better to do than follow me around?" I asked.
"Well, of course, I do," the spirit said in a British accent, crossing its arms. "We spirits like the celebrate the holidays as well. But I can't because my summoner had ordered me to follow you around."
With his peace said, the spirit returned to the void and I stared at the spot where it was, shocked.
I tried to shake off my shock as I heard the official telling everyone to get to the starting line. I joined my boss and waited for the game to start.
"On your mark. Get set…GO!" the official screamed and used a spell to mimic the sound of a gun.
The kids and their guardians all took off in random a direction, and I followed my boss and Skara. It wasn't long before we stopped at a street and the kids began to look around.
I know what you're thinking; it's wrong to have the marker of this game in the game, right? Well, take some memory tweezers and get that thought out of your head. Because that's what my boss did so she wouldn't have an edge in the game.
Speaking of Molly, she was tugging on my pants legs. I smiled as she looked down at her.
"What is it?" I asked warmly.
"Up, up!" she exclaimed happily, pointing to a nearby building.
I looked up and saw a candy skull near a window edge. With a small laugh, I picked up Molly and lifted her to the edge. With a gleeful smile, she took the egg-size skull. I set her down and Skara came up to her girlfriend.
I smiled as the "knocked-down" bard hugged the boss girl with all of her might.
"Papa, papa! Look!"
I looked behind me and my smile grew a little when I saw Luz showing her dad two candy skulls. Manny has the biggest and warmest smile a father could have. He said something I didn't hear, but it caused Luz to beam.
I laughed under my breath and turned back to my kids. Molly didn't need me to say anything as she grabbed Skara's hand. Together, the two hurried off to look for more skulls.
(An hour later)
The hour quickly passed, and everyone returned to the starting area. The teams put their skulls into magical baskets, and the candy was counted. Everyone watched as the numbers continued to climb and the excitement in the area began to build.
Finally, the count was done and in a flash of magic, the winners were named.
"Skara, Molly…Luz and Amity!" I squeaked out.
Everyone couldn't help but gawk at the results. Both groups had the same, exact numbers. That meant it was a tie.
"So what know?" I asked the boss girl.
Molly just gave me a cheeky grin and walked up to Lumity. She tipped Luz on the shoulder, and the human looked at her friend.
"You win," Molly said cheerfully.
Luz looked at her fellow "knocked-down" "witch" with confusion. Her confusion was cleared up when Manny lifted her onto his shoulders. Luz, finally understanding what Molly meant, threw her fists into the air and cheered.
I looked at the boss girl and saw her cheeky grin turn smug.
OWW, that cheeky little author. She planned this, no doubt to try and score some points with Skara.
It worked too; the "knocked-down" bard walked up to her girlfriend and tipped her on the shoulder. Molly looked into the sweet smiling face of Skara. Before Molly could say something, Skara leaned in and kissed her on the cheek.
I watched as the boss girl slowly touched her cheek, and her eyes widened. A faint red appeared on her cheeks, and she said something that wasn't in the script.
"Oh, golly!"
Everyone laughed as the author fell onto her back.
