Hi, so this is my first story for this pairing and I have to admit I am liking it so far so let's see where it goes! I hope you all enjoy this story and this chapter.

Leah is criminally underused and criminally treated. She's the Rosalie of the Wolf Pack. Seriously the shit that she goes through because she's not skipping at the idea of being Emily's maid of honour (and seriously what the fuck possessed Emily to ask that? Like seriously Stephanie). So this story is a love letter to Leah.

I also have a huge amount of respect for Embry's Mom. Not sorry. Also I know she has a different name in the books to here but here she is Layla and she was seventeen when she got pregnant.

Also on Embry's father...I know a lot people assume it is Joshua Uley but somehow that seems to nice and neat, I also think it's pretty ironic, that both Jacob and Quill end up being friends with a kid who might be their half brother. So my views on Embry's Dad is that is has to be one of them and I do tend to lead towards Billy just for reasons I can't name. The council bit deciding whose parents should know and who doesn't is my own and I know it does not correlate with the books but then again this whole story is AU so (shrugs), I just think it's a fun angle to explore that everyone is terrified with who Embry's father could be.

Again, all of this is my own design, the characters belong to someone else, I am just playing in my writers box.

A First Time For Everything

Chapter 12-Those Are Strings Pinocchio

Bella becomes a vampire, Jake imprints, Sam strikes a deal, the wolves go home, Leyla Call decides to make an offering to a girl who reminds her too much of herself.

There was something deeply ironic about Jacob Black and Bella Swan's fucked up relationship. Don't ask Leah what but there was.

Because only Jacob could imprint on Bella Swan's baby. The woman he was in love with, the woman he claimed was his only great love and he had to go and imprint on the baby he was trying to kill seconds beforehand.

There was something about that, that was ironic she just couldn't put her finger on it.

"You and me both" Edward Cullen had said once and Leah had snapped at him telling him sternly to get the fuck out of her head. He had sighed and gone back inside the house. He had barely left his wife's side all the while it had taken her to transform and even then when she had transformed he had only left her side once to make sure she didn't kill Leah's idiot alpha and her idiot brother who had jumped in front of Jake to protect him.

Idiots. She was surrounded by idiots.

The only good thing that came out of it was the fact that Sam now had no choice but to stand down. He had turned up in his human form to see the baby and Leah had made it a priority to be over the river when he turned up. She didn't want to see Sam yet. She wasn't sure if he would read her in that way he had always done and see that she was falling head over heels into…some sort of emotional death trap with Embry. She didn't know if he was going to see it stamped on her forehead like some kind of tramp stamp but she knew that she didn't want to think about what it meant. She didn't want to open the door to it just yet. Not when so much was up in the air.

Sam had told Jake that they could all come home, Jake included. Jake who was perfectly happy with his life the way it was had suggested only that he might go and see his Dad again. Seth cracking his neck to the side his mouth half stuffed with a frisbee sized cinnamon roll had asked if it was alright to come back for breakfast sometimes.

Seriously! She had thought the Doc's wife was going to do a dance in joy.

Leah had given up trying to keep out of the house. From the second Bella had fucked off to her own little cottage and therefore running into her wasn't a risk she had caved. She had been gagging for a decent shower for a long time and to be honest she needed a good body scrub and a decent shampoo and conditioner both of which were provided for. She had sunk into the hot bath (that took up half of the bathroom) and had nearly orgasmed in delight.

Well not really but you got what she meant.

Seth had cleaned her clothes for her which was both incredibly sweet and incredibly impressive because up until this point Leah had not been convinced that Seth knew what a washing machine was. But the smell was not in her clothes and once she had turned a blow dryer on she had to admit that she was looking a hell of a lot more human than she had done before.

Seth had even brough her waffles. They had sat on one of the big beds and ate them trying not to think about who made them and Seth had asked her what she wanted to do now.

"What do you mean?"

"Well…are we going home? Cause I gotta say Mom is gonna ring us out to dry when she gets her hands on us"

Leah considered that and then shrugged.
"Not sure if I want to go home" she said finally. Seth turned to look at her in surprise.

"You've grown to like the Cullen's?" he asked in surprise and Leah shot him a look that had him backtracking immediately.

"Alright fair enough but why…"

"Because I don't think…Seth I don't think that can stand the idea of going back home and everything being the same. Mom helping Emily plan her wedding to Sam, you know what it was like. I came home and found them planning to go dress shopping and it…it was just a mockery of everything that I was supposed to do with her. And she doesn't seem to realise it. So yeah, I guess you could say I don't know if I want to go home, back to all that. Besides…has it even been home since Dad?"

Seth shrugged. "Maybe that's why she likes helping Emily. It's mind-numbing shit planning a wedding isn't it? Maybe she just doesn't want to think"

"Thinks enough to send Jared to us"

"Yeah well that's just Mom being Mom. To be honest I am really surprised she hasn't turned up herself to check in on us. I heard Embry's Mom might be coming to make an appearance—" he was cut off then as there was a knock on the door.

"Yeah?"

"Hey" Embry said blushing when he saw her and she looked down at the waffles trying very hard not to think.

"This a private thing or can I come in?"

"Nah come on in, you brought food?"

"I brought a can of squirty cream"

"God bless you" Seth said grinning.

"Yeah, had to wrestle it off Emmett, they have no idea what it is and when I demonstrated it, he and Jasper went into raptures of delight."

The unfortunate thing was, Leah thought, that she could see that happening.

And that was proof she had really been living here too long.

If you could call it that.

"Where's Jake?"

"With the baby. I can't believe that Bella and Edward have a problem with Nessie as a nickname considering the actual name."

"I still can't believe the fact that it's a baby" Leah muttered before she could stop herself. Seth choked on the mouthful of whipped cream that he had just squirted in his mouth.

"We can't stay up here forever you know" Embry said finally sitting down on the carpet.

"I know" Seth said flopping down on the pillows. "You know it's odd that they have a bed"

"It's a good bed"

"Memory foam mattress"

"Seth"

"Leah"

Leah rolled her eyes as Seth curled up on the memory foam mattress his knees tucked against his chest. Embry sighed stretching out on the bed and she too lay on it curled up in a tight ball.

"You know that you can rest on me if you want" Embry said sleepily. "I don't mind"

Yeah. Cause that was what the problem was wasn't it?

"Don't think so much Leah" Embry said finally his voice drowsy with sleep. "It's over. Sleep"

And despite it all, she did.

She fell asleep, her head on his stomach and that was where they all were three hours later when a rather demure Doctor Cullen knocked on the door to mention with wry amusement that Layla Call was there and she was pretty insistent that if Embry didn't come down in the next ten seconds she was coming up.

Leah nearly got whiplash with how fast Embry moved.

It occurred to her as she went back to sleep again that her mother who cared so much about her children (so she had told Jared apparently), had not braved the vampire's house to come and see them.

"Momma"

"Don't Momma me Embry"

Doctor Cullen with the foresight of a parent had put his Mom in his office and removed anything that was likely to cause damage…or was expensive.

Which was good because when his mother lost her temper she really, lost her temper you know?

"Mom"

"Do you have any idea what the last week has been like? Forget the fact that you are a werewolf—and believe me we will come back to that in a minute but then the whole labour debacle and then the fact that you didn't call?"

"Yeah I know but it was manic and I—" he paused and wiped a hand over his face. He didn't know how to tell her that he still had nightmares about what he had seen, that he was a mess because he knew he was in love with a woman who didn't love him back. That it was all falling apart and…

"Embry?"

"Mom?"

"How bad was it?"

How the hell did she—

"Because I know" she said sagely and he realised he must have spoken that last bit out loud.

He struggled for a second and then…

"It was really fucking bad Momma."

And then he was crying. It was so utterly embarrassing but before he could let that get to him she crossed the room and took him in her arms and wrapped him in her arms and he clung to her until he could block the image of Bella's broken body out of his mind.

"I heard" she said shortly. "Jacob Black called his father who at least called me. Didn't say much but I put two and two together and…well…I don't want to know either. But he says you can come home"

"Yeah" Embry said hiccupping a little. "Yeah they do"

"Well that's good isn't it?"

"I guess, I mean…I don't know how two packs are gonna work, I don't wanna go back to Sam and I don't know what Leah and Seth are gonna do. Leah's already said that she doesn't feel comfortable with her mother—"

"Yeah well…I don't totally disagree with that assessment" his mother said loftily and there was something in her tone that made Embry pause.

"You and Sue had a run in or something"

"Or something" his mother said in that tone she used for when she came downstairs to find that the dishes in the sink had not magically cleaned themselves and put themselves away overnight.

"Okay—"

"Darling I want you to come home, no I am telling you to come home. I don't mind if you want to…do your bit here during the summer but I expect you in school and here on weekends only. And I want to know when you are…working nights, I think that is fair don't you?"

All things considering she was being very good about it. Though Embry did wonder if there was a good reaction to all of this.

"Yes Ma"

"Good. Where are Leah and Seth?"

"Upstairs"

His mother chewed her lip for a second and then…

"Go grab Leah for me will you"

Oh God.

"Eh…why?"

His mother shot him a long look that made Embry feel like he was on the surgeon's table opened up and bleeding all over the floor but before he could say anything his Mom made a little Ah noise and then nodded.

"Embry after the week and a half that I have had, how about you don't question me right now"

Yeah…when his Mom used that tone Embry did as he was told.

"What they talking about?"

"I don't know Seth, didn't know the last time that you asked me I don't know now"

Seth hissed a little a Jacob came into view.

"Woah" he said seeing them. "What did I miss?"

"Embry's Mom is back, she's in the Doc's room with Leah and we don't know why"

"You ask Edward?"

"No"

"Why not?"

"Because we are not using Edward Cullen as the spirit whisperer!" Embry snapped. He was raw and panicky and he had to admit that it was annoying that now after so long Edward Cullen was Edward when a week ago he had been the thing killing the woman that he claimed to have loved.

"Fine" Jacob said quietly. "But why would your Mom want to speak to Leah?"

"I don't know"

"Is it because you and her have a thing going?"

Seth who had just taken a sip of water choked. Embry began to wonder if maybe death was too kind a fate for Jacob Black.

"We don't have a thing going" he said through gritted teeth.

"Okay" Jake said with an eye roll.

There was a pause and then the door opened and his Mom came out snapping the bag of her handbag shut.

"Okay" she said putting on her sunglasses. "Here is what's going to happen. Jacob, call your father, Seth call your mother, Embry come home. Leah is going to stay with us for a little while because she doesn't want to watch her Mom play happy families with someone else. Seth if you'd like to stay I have a couch."

There was a stunned pause and then…

"Hang on what?"

"I've been thinking" his mother said quietly as if she had not just dropped that bombshell on them. "I've been thinking Em…darling boy if you want to know about your father now is the time. I've spent more than half a decade protecting that man and I am not gonna do it anymore"

"Momma?"

"I have to go into town" his mother said quietly. "I should have come with a gift for the baby, are blanket's okay?" she asked Jacob who nodded looking stunned.

"Excellent" she said and then…

"Embry. Please be ready when I get back okay? It's been one hell of a long week and all I want is you back under my roof and a decent pizza I can pig out on"

And then she was gone.

There was a stunned silence and then the door opened and Edward Cullen was leaning against the doorway with a pensive kind of look on his face.

"You may not like it Embry" he said watching as Embry's mother got in the car and drove off half the world a bombsite behind her. "But you can't deny it, your mother has got style"

And there you go.

Next Chapter-As the pack settles into new territory Layla Call decides to go to the father of her child for answers. Meanwhile there is a damaged girl and her son left on the couch to their own devices. What could possibly go wrong.
