Kitt knew Michael was angry about what Melissa had done. But he was clearly judging her actions, not Melissa herself. In other words, Michael was making a distinction between making a bad choice and being a bad person. Kitt hoped Michael would be willing to make that same distinction for Karr. It was time once again for Kitt to suggest Michael give Karr another chance. Or perhaps suggest it to Bonnie.
Melissa was a minor, and Michael was her legal guardian. Kitt knew that meant Michael – not Melissa – would be the person held responsible for her actions by a court of law. But what about Karr? Or, for that matter, Kitt? Were they responsible for their own actions?
Perhaps that was why Wilton Knight had deactivated but not destroyed Karr. Because Wilton Knight felt responsible for Karr's actions. Wilton Knight hadn't walked away from Karr, even though it may have seemed that way to Karr at the time. He had been trying to figure out how to help Karr. And when he ran out of time, he left it to his daughter to finish the job.
