Nobara's pov
The fight continues to rage on between the shikigami and Gargantua. Maki and Ieri showed up sometime after it had begun. Ieri healed Nobara soon after getting there while Maki decided to go and fight the guardian.
"Hey, Megumi. How much longer until the game ends? " Nobara asked as she placed a bottle of water on the floor.
A huge noise echoed around the arena followed by a gust of wind and dust that spread through the battlefield. Nobara took a deep breath and stood up. She placed most of her weight on the left foot before doing the same on the other foot. Nobara jumped up and down for a few seconds before turning to Megumi.
"I don't know. Maybe another 20 or 22 hours or something. " Megumi responded with a defeated tone. He wasn't sure that Mahoraga could beat the guardian and until they found the exit or Angel, defeating Gargantua would be the only chance of escape.
"Nobara... we have to go. The original plan had us staying in the second layer anyways. We should find the exit and leave as fast as we can. " Ieri said as she turned around and started walking away.
Mahoraga started to combat a good hour before Maki caught up with them. Given that Maki didn't want to risk Ieri and that she was walking toward a battlefield where a guardian was going ham, she was forced to approach slowly. The other curses and the environment didn't help out either and as a result, she took a really long time.
Once she caught up, they quickly talked about their next move. To get the hell out of there immediately. That was the only thing they could do at that point.
Gargantua didn't show any signs of fatigue or damage, even after a considerable time-fighting Mahoraga. The shikigami was starting to get used to its opponent and thus, Mahoraga was no longer being thrown around the layer anymore, but the overall damage was pathetic.
The guardian closely guarded its chest, where the door to the next layer presumably was and it seemed obvious to Nobara that the fight could take a very long time. Maybe it could go on and on for days until either Mahoraga finally ran out of cursed energy or maybe... the guardian. Either way, there would be no victory for them.
Maki joined the fight just a few minutes ago, but even so, she was worst off than the shikigami. Maki's blade was much better than Mahoraga, however, every time she would slice the guardian, the sword would not get stuck and she could easily peel off a small chunk of it.
Mahoraga, however, didn't enjoy having some extra help. Every time Maki and the shikigami met, she had to quickly get away so that she would not be targeted by the guardian. But even with both of them, challenging that thing was a very hard endeavor.
The damage Gargantua suffered would be the equivalent of just a few thousand points... out of its millions. After nearly an hour of fighting, not even 1%.
Gargantua, however, could deal massive damage to either of them. The guardian was also getting more responsive as the minutes went by. It slowly began to predict the path that Mahoraga would take which lead to more and more damage to the shikigami. If not for the ability to change its stats and heal, Mahoraga would have been defeated with the two initial strikes right from the start.
Maki was even worst when it came to defenses. If the guardian was not very focused on defending from a possible chain reaction around its core, Gargantua could have easily focused on the jujutsu sorcerer first, but the guardian didn't really care about Maki.
The fight continued for a few more minutes following the same pattern. Both Maki and Mahoraga would run circles around Gargantua as the guardian tried to either catch them or slap them away. Sometimes, it succeed, leading to a buried Mahoraga in stone, in gravel, being thrown in a tree, but in the end, the guardian wasn't fast enough to finish the fight right then and there and so, Mahoraga would always find a way to get back on Gargantua.
Maki was much more careful than that, however. She always struck after making sure that she was in a good position to do so and Maki was never caught off guard. Mostly because Gargantua's punches were not meant to hit her. 'Damn this monster. When is it going down?! ' Maki thought as she ripped a small piece of Gargantua's shoulder. Of course, the guardian didn't mind it at all and continued focusing on grabbing Mahoraga who was near its right leg.
Nobara watched from afar as both she and Ieri walked away leaving Megumi by himself. He couldn't get away because of Mahoraga, but there was nothing he could do anymore. After trying to attack Divine Dog, Orochi, and even Nue, he figured out that none of his shikigami could harm the guardian.
That was not entirely true, however, the damage was just so low that Megumi felt like it was useless. 'If Mahoraga can't beat it then my other shikigami have no use. ' Megumi thought as he focused on recovering in case some other cursed spirit showed up on the battlefield.
Time continued passing as Nobara rushed around the cliffs, the beach, and even the walls, but no exit was present. "If that thing destroys Mahoraga there's no way we will be able to beat it... damn it, Gojo, fucking hell. Why did you beat this dammed thing? Where are you?! " Nobara asked herself as she sent out a nail at a small stone golem who was hiding near a wall.
[Hairpin]
The nail exploded right afterward destroying the golem. "Ieri, stay close to me." They both continued running as fast as they could until eventually, they heard.
"Nobara?! " Nobara quickly turned to the voice.
"Hana! " Nobara screamed with a tone of relief. She quickly grabbed Ieri and jumped over a few rocks to get to Hana.
"Where is Megumi? Who is fighting that mons-"
Hana was interpreted by Nobara who immediately started talking.
"Do that thing you did before. Get everyone out of this layer, now." Nobara said as fast as she could. "Megumi is keeping it busy, but we can't beat the guardian so we have to get out now. "
A mouth formed on Hana's left cheek and began to speak, "Megumi is not strong enough to keep that at bay for this long, that's why Hana didn't even bother to go there. If he's doing that, however, it means he summoned Mahoraga. Right? "
"Yes, why? " Nobara asked as she felt the tone of the conversation shifting.
"Hana. If we do that, Megumi will die. " Angel spoke the three words that Hana didn't want to hear... ever. She immediately fell to the ground and began biting her fingernails.
"What do you mean? " Hana said in a serious tone. Nobara, who had heard Megumi's explanation before, immediately understood the problem.
"Mahoraga won't disappear unless it is defeated or it kills both Megumi and whoever he brought into the ritual. That would mean the big pile of rocks over there, but if we open the Domain and flee, who do you think Mahoraga will go after? Also, even if I can't deal with Mahoraga that well, once it adapts to my cursed technique, it's over for me. So... what are you gonna do? " Angel asked before retreating into Hana's body.
Both Nobara and Hana were left speechless for a few moments. "I'm... I'm... " Hana said as she looked at Gargantua fighting in the distance.
"Hey guys, you were here. So... how long do you think it will take until Gojo exorcises that thing?" Hakari asked right after he climbed the cliff to get to them. He had a small smile on his face and was now shirtless and covered in his blood. "Also, can I get some healing? I don't want to bring out my domain if I don't have to."
Megumi's pov
"So it is the Zennin boy. Hey, how is it going? " Megumi heard a voice calling out to him. He immediately perked up and brought out one of his shikigami, but when he saw who it was, it became clear to him that he was wasting his time.
"You must be...Yuki... give Yuji back to me. " Megumi said as he started to slowly walk toward her. Yuki smiled once more before she adjusted the two people she was carrying on her back.
"Don't worry. You'll get your friend back after the game. I promise. " Yuki said as she started walking forward.
[Divine-]
Yuki was so fast, that before Megumi could give an order to his shikigami, she had already passed by and was now standing behind him. "I didn't stop by to fight. I did it to give you some peace and so that you would leave. Focus on getting out of here, Megumi. You're not Yuta or Gojo so you won't last much longer in this Domain. " Yuki said as she continued walking toward Gargantua.
"Why are you doing this? Why did you betray Jujutsu High? " Megumi asked as he turned around. "If you and Gojo had fought together with Yuta... "
"If I was on your side, Ainz would not have done this. He would have killed everyone and then went on as usual. This is the only way I could think of that humanity might come out in a good position. " Yuki said as she stopped walking for a few moments. "Yuta was moved to the 7th layer and Gojo was sent to the 5th, thanks to a trap. Since I can just open the doors without any restrictions, you'll have to exorcise Gargantua before following me. I wouldn't do that if I were you though. "
"Gargantua? What are you talking about? Yuki- " Megumi stopped talking once he realized that Yuki had disappeared.
Maki was running around on Gargantua's body trying to find a weak spot. Until now, she had no luck, but things were about to change once she spotted a door-looking thing on the guardian's belly. She quickly decided to strike it with her blade, but when it resulted in no damage, she changed her tactics.
Maki tried to pull the doors open and when that failed, she thought. 'So this thing really is the guardian. Shit, how are we gonna beat it? ' She immediately left the door when she felt Gargantua's hand moving toward her.
'So it doesn't like when people go near it? ' Maki thought as she jumped on top of the hand and started running up the arm. 'Wait... is that? Yuji?! ' Maki thought as she saw a blond woman carrying Yuji on her shoulder go toward the door.
Yuki landed right on a small platform that quickly formed once someone who was authorized to open the door approached. She then grabbed the door and opened it. "See you. " Yuki said as she winked at Maki who immediately jumped to the door.
"Wait! " Maki screamed as she threw herself to the door only to watch as Yuki walked into the teleportation zone. The doors closed right after that, which made Maki hit the door with her blades once more. She immediately tried to push the doors, but it wouldn't budge.
"Fuck. She got- " Maki stopped talking once she heard a huge noise coming from the lake. "What the hell? " Maki said as she turned her head.
"Calm down, Kashimo. We will catch up with Sukuna's vessel in no time at all, at this pace. " Geto said as he released two flying curses to pull the boat.
Kashimo had released a huge cursed energy wave that was infused with an electric property, that attack not only killed the shark curse that was about to attack them but also caused a huge amount of noise. "I can't wait anymore, Kenjaku. We have to get to Sukuna now! " Kashimo said.
"Yes, Kenjaku. I want to see Sukuna right away. " Yorozu said as she started hugging herself.
"You two don't know how to be patient, huh? Well... in that case, we have to find the door and go to the next layer. If Ainz kept his word, Sukuna will be waiting on the sixth layer." Geto said as he looked at what seemed like the guardian to him.
Toji's pov
A gust of wind passed right by Toji's leg when he was busy swinging his weapon. After running around for a while, he finally ran into some cursed spirits. All of them resembling some type of bug. Of course, he could beat them with no problem, but as Toji was cutting down enemies, it became too clear to him. 'Again... someone is eager to kill me, but this is good. Keep attacking me. It will give me more chances to find you. ' Toji thought as he felt another projectile rushing toward him.
With a confident flick of his cursed tool, Toji knocked the thing out of the air and continued walking forward. 'Another arrow... ' Toji thought as he quickly glanced at the projectile on the floor.
He continued his path until he reached a swamp. 'Diferent biome then. The stone building is... that way. If this is like that frozen place then I must be closer than I think. ' Toji thought as he finally dodged yet another arrow.
"Damn... attacking like this is not my strong suit..." Aura thought as she prepared another arrow.
'The attacks are getting more frequent yet I can't figure out where they are... annoying. ' Toji thought as he started running.
Navigating the swamp proved to be way harder than the forests. Not only the amount of cursed spirit increase, but the mud was too effective at slowing him down. It was like the ground itself was holding onto his legs as he fiercely fought to continue running.
The surprise attacks also were starting to become an actual problem. While he was busy taking care of a few dozen curses that surrounded him, Toji got grazed by one of the arrows and immediately fell to his knees. 'Poison?! ' Toji thought as his body began to fight off the pain.
Unknown to Toji, the arrow was enchanted so that it would lower the target's physical stats. It also caused a lot of pain, which led him to his knees. Thankfully, the pain effect was short-lived and Toji was up and running again in no time.
'That arrow is more deadly than I imagined. I have to focus on it a little more from now on. ' Toji thought as he finally exited the swamp. He was now in front of the amphitheater. Of course, Toji didn't know what it was called, but he didn't care, it looked like the place where the door would be. That was enough for him.
[Message]
"Mare, I got him once with the arrow. The curses you sent didn't help much, so now we'll have to take him down." Aura said as she jumped from one of the trees to the building. She quickly entered through one of the windows before taking a glance at Toji who was looking right at her.
'So he was the one following me... and now that I reached this place, you're gonna fight me in there? Fine by me.' Toji said as he walked over to the gate. He quickly started spinning his cursed tool and was about to create a custom path through the steel bars when he heard a loud bang.
The gate slowly began to rise. 'Alright then. ' Toji thought as he stopped spinning his weapon and walked into the place. He had his senses on high alert, expecting traps, surprise attacks, anything, but instead of that, all Toji found was a straight path.
This path leads into a corridor which leads to another corridor and so on. The beautiful marble turned to regular stone and then Toji found himself staring at an arena. 'Yep. It's just like I thought. ' Toji thought as he entered the arena without any hesitation.
Toji found himself in a wide arena obviously inspired on a roman coliseum. The floor didn't have anything fancy, it was just a piece of regular soil like the ones back in the forest. Around the fighting ground, there were may seats where statues were positioned as if they were watching the spectacular. Some of them were just cheering, others couldn't contain their excitement and were about to jump from their seats. It was a bizarre scenario for Toji, who was used not used to fighting for crowds. 'Not like they are alive anyways... and even if they were. They're just curses. ' Toji thought.
"W-welcome to the sixth layer. " Toji heard a timid voice saying from afar. He quickly turned his head to the source where he saw a small-looking cursed spirit.
"Are you supposed to be some sort of elf? I'm not good with that kinda fantasy bullshit people are into, but that must mean you're strong, right? " Toji said as he scratched his ears. "Wait, you don't have to answer. I don't care anyway. Let's just get this over with. Where's the guardian, little girl? "
The girl in front of Toji bowed to him before saying, "I'm the guardian of the sixth floor, Mare, and I'm a boy." Mare said as he tried to cover his face with his staff.
"Really? That's great! Let's just do this then. " Toji said as he immediately jumped at Mare while spinning his cursed tool. Mare looked confused for a moment, he turned his head from one side to the other as if he was searching for something until Toji suddenly felt another presence.
"Don't forget about me. " A new voice spoke. Toji felt a projectile rushing toward him which made him stop for a moment to block it. Soon after, he heard a loud noise from where the guardian was.
"I'm Aura, also the guardian of the sixth layer. " Aura said as the bow she was carrying disappeared right away and another one took its place.
"Two on one then? Okay, Mare and Aura." Toji said as he turned his head to the twins. "The one who was attacking me on the way here was... you, right. That was annoying, do you know how annoying it is to dodge attacks like that?! Well... I'll start with you. "
"I analyzed your fighting style since you got here old man. I doubt you will be able to so much as touch me. " Aura said as she raised her fingers at her lips before whistling with all her might.
After that, more than a dozen insect-looking curses climbed down from the stands and began to encircle Toji. "See? It's over for you, old man. " Aura said as Mare began her chanting.
[Power of Gaia]
Mare casted this spell twice. Once on himself and another on Mare.
"I'll hold off for a while so the little ones can fight too. Mare, you're gonna be responsible for buffing me and my pets. " Aura said as she started running forward.
"What?! Sister, wait! " Mare said as he began casting another spell while trying to reposition himself.
Toji spun his cursed tool to block an acid spit coming from one of the curses before saying, "Let's just do this already, Gojo might catch up at any point. "
