Let it be said

Gods has pride. Too much pride, if one want to be impudent, though it was not wrong either. And they hate to admit they are wrong. Poseidon is not exception to that rule.

As a god, Poseidon can change. But by change he means in a snail's pace across several centuries. Not abrupt change. Unless it's in appearance. Now that, is as easy as blink.

Change his nature and temper? You need Fates' intervention for that.

Which… this one count as Fates' Intervention… if he looks at certain angle.

After dreaming his son facing a Fury without any training whatsoever—Chiron will be hearing it from him for throwing a blade at untrained child, what if the sword stab Percy instead?!—Poseidon briefly check on his son, Ancient Laws be damned he can be secretive, you know. It was such a relief that Percy is unharmed and there is no Fury in the school, that Poseidon dismiss it as weird fever dream.

He thought it was end of it

Boy he was wrong.

Now he was, once again, in dream-like state.

This time he was sitting inside a car with Sally driving like Ares with Percy and his Satyr friend arguing in the backseat. The weather was foul—seriously Zeus. Take a chill pill and stop throwing tantrum. Your children are still working to find your bolt and for the last time, Poseidon did NOT take your bolt! What use he have for such awful thing?! Harming his citizen?

"Please, dear," Sally begged. "This is hard enough. Try to understand. You're in danger."

What danger—don't tell him, Furies are chasing after him?!

"Because some old ladies cut yarn."

Poseidon jolted up in his seat and whirled to look at Percy with horrified eyes.

"WHAT?!" He screamed.

Percy saw Fates?! He saw Fares cut his yarn?! WHEN DID IT HAPPENS?!

It better not his yarn! Anyone else but Percy's! The Satyr change his wording at last minute which give Poseidon hope—but damn it he is bad at convincing people!

There's a flash at the rear mirror. A glimpse of monster that was chasing them.

It was familiar for some reason.

But before Poseidon can put a name or to it, everything goes black. When vision returned, he was standing outside crashed the car, with both Sally and Percy groaning in pain from inside, and the Satyr knocked out.

There's a hole in the roof. A sizzling hole.

"ZEUS! YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE!" Poseidon rages. "HAVE SOME DECENCY YOU HYPOCRITE BASTARD!" At least Hades play by the rules by sending monster, giving the mortal fair chance of survival and fighting back no matter how minuscule it is!

Poseidon can only watch in helplessness as Percy and Sally climbs out of the car, carrying the unconscious Satyr as they tried to climb the hill (whose bright idea to let the grass grow this tall?! Even at sunny day, climbing hill with waist length grass is a chore and half!), unable to help in any way, shape, or form.

The thunder flash, and Poseidon take a good look at the monster chasing them.

Seeing the shape of bull-human mix, Poseidon turned pale.

"…you're kidding me." He didn't whimper, but it was a near thing.

The monster that was chasing his son and his lover (and his son's assigned satyr) is Minotaur.

The monster Poseidon orchestrate to exist as punishment for King Minos just because he did not sacrifice the bull Poseidon gifted to him. The same monster one of his sons, Theseus, killed in the Labyrinth long time ago.

Now another child of his is fated to face monster that Poseidon creates.

(And unlike Theseus, Percy is twelve and has no training whatsoever)

…is this what human called "Too Late for Regrets"?

The Minotaur start tromping uphill, about to run Percy through. To Poseidon's wellbeing, he manages to dodge by jumping aside. Giving him a moment to catch his breath.

But his hope was quickly dashed when Minotaur makes a turn… towards Sally.

"NO!" He screamed in horror as the monster (of his making) charged towards Sally. Hands outstretched and grab her by neck before she could dodge away.

Poseidon tried to expend energy to make a change to the situation. Anything. But all it does was making the storm even worse (and he doubt it was his doing seeing he is completely powerless in this state). The Minotaur tightens its grasp, and within shower of golden light (and coldness of Underworld), Sally disappeared.

Bile rising up at the back of his throat as consequences of his past's action crashing on him like Zeus' Master Bolt.

"HEY!" Percy screamed. Rage and grief thick in his voice. "Hey! Stupid! Ground Beef!"

"Percy, what are you doing?!" Poseidon screamed at his son. "Don't—just run! Run to the camp! Alert Chiron! Whatever! Don't-please don't do this!"

Not him too, please fates not him too…!

A strangled shriek coming out of Poseidon's throat as the Minotaur rushed to Percy, whose back is facing the Thalia Tree. Both hands outstretched to grab him if he tried to sidestep to either side.

There's no way to run.

There's no escape.

.

The next morning is a gloomy one. Sky was overcast with storm clouds yet not a single droplet fell.

Poseidon was standing just outside the Camp's border. At the bottom of the hill.

His hand touched the ruined car. Camaro 70s. The Car Sally use to drive Percy to the camp. Torn into two by force of the minotaur. The only proof that his prophetic dream is not just nightmare.

It was vision of what is happening.

There's no blood. If there is, it probably was washed away by the last night's storm.

Griping the ruined car's handle, Poseidon bowed his head and let tears fall.

His fault.

There's no denying it. No casting the blame to someone else. The fault lies in him and him alone.

He creates the Minotaur. He was the one who take King Minos' offense to outrageous degree. He is the one who think making Pasiphae fell for a bull "funny".

Theseus was injured in his fight against Minotaurus—for all he come out alive and all limbs intact, he doesn't get away unscathed. It was Poseidon's fault.

The people who died because of the Minotaurus—it's Poseidon's fault.

Sally dies. So does Percy. And his Satyr friend.

Three more names to blood who coated Poseidon's hands.

He should've done better

If only he didn't leave Percy be after the first Vision

If only he told Sally that Percy is attracting monster already

Maybe they would still be alive.

but he didn't

and they're gone.

Because monster he created in height of arrogance

His fault

All of it are his fault

(Regrets taste bitter, acid-bile, and salty tears)
