Hi all, so I am back to this wonderful fandom with a new story! I am taking a delve into a fandom, an era and a couple that has always fascinated me and it's the James/Lily era.

This is the second part of the story that started in the Beginning of the End and these are the moments in the first Wizarding War and the build up to Harry.

This story will be twenty chapters long and some events/events that do take place might be missed.

Also spelling/grammar...not my best thing. Again keep that in mind when you read...please.

Disclaimer-Nothing here is mine.

Please Read and Review.

And on a side note, I like so many other Fanfiction Authors no longer receive notifications via email about reviews/PMs etc. So if you do send any it might be a while, if ever before I get back to you. Please keep that in mind for it is not intentional-If anyone has a fix please let me know

I do not receive PMs anymore, if you have a question stick it in a review and I will answer it in the chapter notes.

And only FOUR MORE CHAPTERS LEFT.

The End Of The Beginning

Chapter 16-Tripple Threat

James and Lily adjust to being parents to their baby as Dumbledore comes to see them with news that will blow their lives apart.

When he woke up the first thing that he did was go and see Harry. The baby. His baby. His Harry. His son.

His son.

He still couldn't get over that, couldn't get over that he had a son, couldn't get over that he had a baby boy who looked at him with the same green eyes as his mother had and James swore that he was seeing him and recognizing him James Potter as his father.

Harry James Potter.

The first name had been their conjoined idea. Lily and his. They had sat with a muggle book of baby names and they had circled ones they had both liked and when they had both realised that the only name on their lists combined was Harry they had both laughed and they had hugged each other the baby beneath them kicking away that was that.

Girls names had been so, so much harder but James did think that Emily Marlene had such a nice ring to it. That being said when Lily had smacked him awake at four in the morning with her pillow and had told him that he had better get a move on it was his son that he thought about.

Maybe that was bad but James had just…it was hard to explain perhaps but it was that he just had a feeling that the baby was going to be a boy.

And so he here he was.

Harry was asleep when he woke up. It had scared the hell out of both of them when he had slept through the fourth night. Bathilda who doated on Harry told them that sometimes babies, especially first babies did that and they should both consider themselves fucking lucky as hell (not her choice of words but you get the point) but it had not sat easy with either of them and more than once Lily had woken up to see him standing over the cot worried that the reason Harry was so silent in the night was not because he was sleeping but because he had died in the night and they had not realised it.

Even now James wasn't sure that he could believe that they were the one couple who had a baby who slept through the night.

"Thank your lucky stars son" Arthur Weasley said over a beer as Molly and Lily cooed over Harry and the Weasley's new son Ronald respectively. "Percy was the same and it was just odd…course the twins took care of that notion but I have to say Ron is a nice quiet baby. Enjoy it cause the second will be loud and messy"

"I don't think Lily wants a second" James replied. "She spent a good chunk of labour telling me she was going to turn me into a singing soprano the second she got a hold of her wand"

Arthur laughed.

"They all say that" he said easily. "And the second they hold that baby in their arms they change their mind. Young Mr Black is the same"

James would concede in that regard. He was admittedly self obsessed with his son but he was his father so he thought that was par for the course. Sirius as godfather was a fanatic. He popped round every day for five minutes in what Lily had dubbed his fix minute fix. He would hold Harry and more than once he and Remus had been instrumental in them getting a bit of sleep. Remus had firmly reinstated himself within the family (James was too tired to be suspicious) by reading Harry a chapter from A History of Magic and that had been enough to send Harry to sleep, a sure sign Sirius pointed out, of things to come.

Sirius on the other hand was the best and the worst godfather in history. Twice he had taken Harry on the bike when James had been asleep and he was carefully pretending that he didn't know Sirius had done that because he was sure Lily would annihilate all three of them and his favourite game was to hide with the invisibility cloak and leap out at Harry who thought it was hilarious even though it scared James halfway up the wall. Harry liked it when magic was used, liked trying to catch green puffs of smoke with his fat little fists legs kicking up in the air as he tried to catch them.

James had thought naively that he knew about love. The love that one had for your family, friends, life. He had thought naively that that love had been eclipsed by his love for Lily, Lily who was the great love of his life but now he was finding that he was wrong on that account too. Because of Harry. Because James had found someone that he could love more than Lily. His baby boy who he was quite sure was recognizing him when he walked in in the morning and was kicking his arms and legs up in the air desperate to be hold by Daddy.

The second that James had held him he had felt that overwhelming desire for peace. He had thought that he would want to be on the front line of the fight for as long as possible, be the man who would bring peace to the world (there wasn't one member of the Order who didn't have that fantasy believe you me) but the second the screaming little green eyed bundle was placed into his arms he found that he was so in love that all he wanted to do was to make the world a safer place for Harry, so Harry could live in peace, so Harry didn't have to know the terror that gripped most children now when they went to Hogwarts not knowing if it would be the last time that they saw their families again waving on the train tracks.

He bit his bottom lip at the thought of what had been happening recently. He had not read a newspaper in weeks but whenever he asked one of his friends would tell him. It was usually Peter who had looked over Harry and deemed him sweet but had backed away when James had asked if he wanted to hold him saying that he was not good with children and he would wait until Harry was old enough to pick himself up if you didn't mind. Sirius had laughed and snatched Harry to himself with a degree of glee that was rather alarming when you thought about it but James had cracked open a beer and laughed as Lily argued with Sirius about how Sirius was a lovely name instead of James and that had been a day with friends to enjoy marred only by the bad news that the Death Eaters had set their sites on St Mungo's. Frank Longbottom had gone down on the charge for that and though he was okay it had been a bloody battle in which Crouch had tried to shift the blame onto the Order.

"To be expected" Peter said quietly. "He's pushing to be the new Minister. You heard that the Auror's now have the power to kill rather than capture? And it doesn't matter how unjustified it is they can just do it."

James looked at him.

"Bitter?" Lily asked quietly and Peter shrugged.

"Does make you wonder if we are slowly becoming as bad as they say the other side are?" he said quietly.

"As they say?"

That was Sirius and James winced at the tone in his voice. He caught Remus's eye as Lily took Harry into her arms and Remus shrugged.

"You know what he means" Remus said ever to defuse the tension. "Sirius even I have to admit, even you have to admit that some of Crouch's methods are getting…extreme…he is throwing prisoners into Azkaban without trial"

"All of them are guilty" Sirius said stubbornly.

"Are they?" Remus said flatly. "Because if you actually do the reading instead of just taking the headlines your find that he rounded up a pack of werewolves the other day who most certainly were not Death Eaters nor were they working with them"

There was a bitterness to his voice and perhaps it showed because he looked up from his hands to see all of them looking at him and this time the smile was so thin it was painful.

"Doesn't matter" was all he said and James shot Sirius a look. How Sirius could think that it was Remus who was the spy was beyond him. Remus would spy for Voldemort no sooner than Voldemort would turn himself in to the Ministry of Magic and begin serving his sentence with no hesitation and yet Sirius was still watching Remus with that look on his face as if he couldn't tell.

James turned to look at Harry now fascinated by his mother's red hair and he thought of Ron Weasley and all the other little children who were being born and he hoped against a hope he had long ago stopped believing in that he would get to grow up forever trusting his best friends. He hoped that. He hoped for that anyway.

James bit his bottom lip again worrying the skin to shreds for a second and then.

"Dumbledore said by the way he wants to come over"

Lily blinked and then.

"And you're telling us this now?"

"Hey Harry smiled at his godfather, that was way more important!"

"When is Dumbledore coming?"

There was a knock at the door.

James turned to look at Sirius.

"Oh you have got to be shitting me?"

"Harry. Smiled. At. Me"

"Probably just gas" Remus said and was promptly wacked on the arm with a pillow for his trouble. Peter stood up suddenly.

"I should go" he said moving towards the back door to apparate.

"You know you don't have to, it's not like we are in school anymore"

"No I know, it's just…I have to get my mother her medication, you know how it's been"

James actually did not know how it had been but apparently Remus and Sirius did because they both nodded at him.

And then he was gone as Lily opened the door.

"I should go too I think" Remus said quietly. "I was on assignment for a long time James and I really, really do not want him to quietly suggest that I go on another. Quite frankly I think I will snap if he does"

"Go" James muttered and then Remus was gone.

Sirius raised an eyebrow.

"Start and I will throw something at you" was all James said in response. "I mean it Sirius you are not starting on him now. He wouldn't betray me or my family or anyone else. Whatever shit you have sort it out yourself but you do not get to bring it into my happy cloud that I have worked so hard to get and burst it."

Sirius watched him and then threw the cloak at him as Dumbledore came into the living room.

"I see somethings have not changed" he said as James stood up.

"Sir?"

"James, Lily, Sirius, I was wondering if I might avail myself to some of your time, I understand that with a newborn it is precious but I believe it is imperative that I talk to you and talk to you know. I think…no I know…that you are in great danger"

And just like that the bubble was burst.

"No offense Professor" Lily said handing a sleepy Harry back to James who curled his son around him as if to keep him safe. "But I do have to wonder what danger we are in this time? We've not taken assignments for the Order since I became pregnant and…and…"

But Dumbledore was already pointing at Harry.

"Forgive me Lily dear but I believe that it is your son that places you in danger and If you give me half an hour I will do my best to explain why"

There was a pause as James heart hammering suddenly looked at Lily who had gone chalk white. Sirius was suddenly next to him and James shifted to let Dumbledore speak and to let Sirius sit on the sofa and as soon as he moved the Invisibility Cloak fell into view.

For a second the headmaster went white. James caught him staring at it and he really did think the old man was about to faint and then he dragged his eyes away from it and said quietly.

"Is that…"

"Yes…my son?"

"That…"

"PROFESSOR" Lily shouted and it smacked the man back into himself.

"Yes, yes, my apologies." He said still shooting another look at the cloak and James saw his fingers twitch towards him.

"James" he said looking at them both suddenly his expression something that James had never seen before and quite frankly never wanted too again.

"Lily. I am afraid that I have something very, very bad to tell you"

And there you are, I hope that you enjoy and I will bring you the next chapter as soon as.

Next Chapter-James and Lily go into hiding, Sirius is given the title of Secret Keeper. And so it begins.
