Hello, so here I am again with another story again for Rosalie and Emmett a criminally underrated couple. This time we are in a New Moon setting for a smaller story of about 17 chapters all taking place from the Volterra arc. So yeah an AU but only a little bit.

(As if that makes a difference!)

A side note on the relationship with Alice. As I have previously stated as I grow older I find that I struggle with the character of Alice the most. I do see her actions sometimes as toxic and while I don't believe Stephanie intended for her to be written that way sometimes I just want to reach through the pages and shake the vampire until she understands certain things. This was a way of getting all of that out. If you love Alice and think she can do no wrong this might not be the best story for you. Her relationship with Rosalie and how she and Edward treat Rosalie is something I have addressed many a time throughout my fics and stories but I hope that you enjoy nonetheless. This is not intended to be an Alice bashing fic, this is just for me to have my say as an ardent Rosalie fan. For all Alice lovers out there I hope that you understand and I am hopeful that one day I will learn to re-like Alice again.

This is not one hundred percent cannon, if you are looking for word for word perfect scenes out of the book then I am not the author for you, this is my interpretation of these events.

There will be trigger warnings for this story and keep in mind a hell of a lot of swearing for what is in the books, also some interpretation on Rosalie and Emmett's past. This also might turn into an M Rated story depending on how I take it. Again something to keep in mind as we progress.

Some events might be missed from the book as well but the bare bones of it still remain.

Also spelling/grammar etc...not my strongest point. Again something to take note off.

Disclaimer-Nothing is mine.

Please Read and Review.

And on a side note, I like so many other Fanfiction Authors no longer receive notifications via email about reviews/PMs etc. So if you do send any it might be a while, if ever before I get back to you. Please keep that in mind for it is not intentional-If anyone has a fix please let me know.

Also this chapter is based more on the movie than the book, in the movie it all happens in the space of one night and so that's what's happening in this story. Rest of the time it should be a pretty even spread between the two.

And some TRIGGER WARNINGS for Bella's depression (seriously don't get me started on what that turns to in Eclipse) and Rosalie's past.

Spheres Of Influence

Chapter 2-Never Going Back To Normal

Rosalie and Bella both get the shocks of their lives but the hits keep on coming when Rosalie realises just who Jacob Black is related too and then receives a phone call from Alice. This chapter is probably more movie based than book.

"The family that dear octopus from whose tentacles we never quite escape, nor in our innermost hearts never quite wish to" Dodie Smith.

Bella Swan was alive.

She looked like she had drowned and she stank like a wet dog but Bella Swan was defiantly alive, absolutely, heart thumping, venom inducing, alive.

When Rosalie made a graceful exit from this shit show she was going to kill Alice.

Painfully, slowly and with agonising precision, because if this whole thing had been a way for her to 'bond' with the human then there was going to be nothing that could detract from Rosalie's fury.

Not even Jasper.

For a second the two woman stared at each other both stunned into silence and then Bella screamed so loudly she was sure that everyone in the vicinity could hear.

"ROSALIE!"

And then the human was in her arms and hugging her and sobbing hysterically and there was nothing that Rosalie could do to stop her. She tried her best…she did…honestly…but it had been a long time since she had, had a crying human hanging off her and well…it wasn't like she and Bella had ever been friends was it?

"Bella" she said trying very hard not to breathe in the admittedly quite lovely scent that Bella gave off without even meaning too. Gods above how did Edward kiss with that thing down his throat every five seconds?

"Bella" she said again gently trying to get away without accidently throwing the girl into the wall. "Bella get the hell of me!"

Bella dropped off her like she'd been burned wiping her face on the back of her hand.

"Sorry" she said finally. "Sorry" she wiped her eyes and Rosalie sighed.

"Do you mind telling me how in God's name you are alive?"

"Beg pardon?"

Was she serious?

"Alice saw you jump of a cliff" she said bitterly. "Why else do you think I am here?"

She didn't mean it to come across as harsh but Rosalie was deeply annoyed and more than a little worried. If Alice had seen Bella go in the water and yet had not seen Bella come out the water then…then what did that mean for Alice and her vision?"

"I didn't jump…it was cliff diving…wait does Alice think I killed myself?"

"Yes"

"Oh"

Rosalie didn't know what to say to that. She wanted to shake the little human until her teeth rattled and until she understood that her life, her human life, was very precious, too precious for her to go around jumping off cliff's like it didn't matter. Because it did. On this she and Edward were agreed…Bella's life was far too precious for her to treat it like it didn't matter. And she didn't seem to get that, she didn't seem to understand that actions had consequences. Rosalie thought that maybe it was a generational thing, that maybe it was a thing with the generation of today because in the 1930s they had never behaved like this.

"Was this recreational sport before or after you rolled around in wet dog hair?"

"Wet dog—oh that's my friend Jacob" she said still staring at Rosalie as if she was going to disappear there and then. "Jacob he…he's…well…kinda a werewolf"

Kind of a werewolf.

What Rosalie would not do for a drink right now.

Because she had fucking known what that smell wasn't hadn't she?

"Of course"

She remembered. How could she not remember? How could she not remember that day when they had been hunting and then the giant dogs had turned into men. Carlisle ever the peacemaker, aware of the threat to his family in that moment had not been phased by what the wolves could do (even though the wolves had been phased by Edward and his inability to not read aloud everyone's private thoughts because it was Edward and like Alice he could not help himself) she remembered Emmett next to her coiled and ready to spring desperate for a fight against these creatures and she had been silent watching.

There had been three then.

Ephraim Black had been one of them.

She calculated in her head. That would have to make Jacob his grandson if he was the same age as Bella.

So they were back…made sense she supposed where the vampires went the wolves were bound to follow.

Pity Edward had never considered that fact when he skipped off and left Bella in the forest.

"Continue" she said as Bella paused to watch her. It was rather unnerving to be looked at like this, even Rosalie who had been the main focuses of nearly every man's obsession since she was thirteen. Bella was looking at her as if starved and Rosalie wondered for a second if Edward had thought this plan through because while he had stubbornly clung to the belief that as a human time would heal all of Bella's wounds he was sorely mistaken. It had been what? Nine months? And it didn't look as if that was working at all.

"I just…I thought it was fun, Jacob and his friends do it all the time but I guess I chose the wrong time to do it. Jacob pulled me up, just as well too with the wolves tracking Victoria—"

"VICTORIA?!"

Bella flinched back and Rosalie stared at her, her lips pulled back in what she knew was a snarl. It was hard not to, Edward had given them enough of a run down over James's mate and she had spent enough time keeping watch on Victoria when James had left her in Forks to know the woman was slippery. To this day she still did not know how Victoria had gotten the slip but she had. Edward had always suspected she was gifted in this area and yet she had been back?

Well fuck Edward's view that Bella was safer without them being here…God Rosalie could see it now, them doing patrols in Forks without letting Bella know that they were back, always on the outside never looking in. Emmett and her had been planning a trip to Mexico, just some time the two of them and she could see Carlisle's face in her mind telling her that perhaps it was best to let it go just so that they could once again solve Edward's problems.

It was hard not to be bitter because so many problems had stemmed from this relationship. She had never understood Edward's intentions towards Bella, she had thought him cruel at best when it came to it. He had chosen to let this girl into a life outside of her own and the second he had done that there was only two ways this was going to end, death or transformation.

If he had listened…

But she shook her head trying not to think about Edward or his stubbornness or his foolishness. Now was not the time. The wolves were back, Bella was alive and the reality was she had done what she had set out to do which was to offer Charlie support. There was no point in offering Charlie any kind of support now when his only child was still alive, still breathing, still kicking despite her best efforts to the contrary.

Victoria was a much bigger threat.

"Rosalie why are you here?"

"Alice sent me, I was in Forks, I was…at the house and she asked me to see if you were really dead."

"Oh" Bella said and her face fell and Rosalie just knew that she was going to have to do something deeply unpleasant.

"So I guess you'll be going now?"

"And not a second too soon" came a voice from the doorway and Bella turned around whipping Rosalie's face with brown hair that smelt of mimosa, salt water and wet dog and she stepped back wrinkling her noise.

The boy was standing in the hallway half naked and Rosalie knew in a second whose grandson he was. This was Jacob Black and he looked furious. She had no idea how it worked but she didn't think the shaking was any good.

"Calm down" she said feeling her teeth set. "Charlie Swan doesn't need to come home to find his living room in pieces, I did what I came here to do. I need to call my sister in law to tell her she's a fool and then I'll be going"

"Your calling Alice…not…" Bella trailed off and Rosalie sighed.

She knew without her even finishing that sentence that and Rosalie was already shaking her head.

"He doesn't call" she said finally. "He's not with us. We've…we've been relying on Alice to tell us that everything is okay and…Alice has" she finished lamely. Jacob Black in the corner raised an eyebrow but mercifully didn't say anything. Rosalie was not sure what he would have said that she couldn't agree with. Edward needed to get his head out of his ass and pronto. There was only so long that they could let this go ahead without it getting completely out of hand.

"Rosalie?"

"Hmm?"

"Will you…will you give Jacob and me a moment?"

"Believe me Bella I don't need the smell up my nose any more than I have too"

"Yeah Blondie cause you smell perfect, all sunshine and roses and that shit"

Rosalie wanted very much to stick her tongue out at him as she passed out the door but she didn't because as Esme would say, that wasn't very mature and someone clearly had to be the adult in the room even though technically they were all the same age.

"Anyone waiting for me outside dog? Anyone going to snap my arm off if I open the car door?"

"Oh were everywhere Princess"

Not very encouraging, Rosalie thought as she slammed the door shut so hard it rattled.

She eyed the outside carefully but she couldn't see anything glaringly obvious in the trees.

Opening the car door she flipped on her phone and saw that it seemed everyone within her family (bar one exception) had tried to contact her.

She flipped through the text messages, got rid of the voice messages without really listening to them and then called her husband. Fuck Alice, with everything that had gone on in the last few seconds she wanted to speak to her husband.

He picked up after one ring.

"Rose?"

She closed her eyes and leaned back against the car and sighed just listening to his voice. Christ had there ever been someone who had loved someone as much as she loved Emmett? Her Prince Charming? Now more than anything she wanted to step forwards into his arms and rest her head against his broad shoulder and let him be the strong one for a change.

"Rose?"

"Yeah I'm here" she said opening her eyes and she knew if she was a human she'd be crying from the sheer emotional strain she had been under. Sometimes she missed that, the simple pleasure of having a good cry for no good reason other than you could.

"I heard" was all Emmett said.

"That she's dead?"

"Yeah, I also heard what Alice said, listen I'm gonna have a word with Jasper and when that fails with Carlisle, so you weren't eager to be her best friend that doesn't mean—"

"Bella Swan is alive"

Emmett stopped mid-sentence.

"I'm sorry?"

"Bella Swan is alive." Rosalie said stressing every word. "She's alive, the werewolves are back and they stink and Victoria is hunting Bella…oh and I'm pretty sure the wolves killed Irina's latest squeeze."

There was a pause as her husband took in that information and then he swore.

"Fuck"

"Yep"

"How did Alice not…"

"I don't know for God's sake I don't…I shouldn't be here…she looks terrible Emmett and I know I've ripped open the wound by being here and seeing her and seeing what could have been, It's like…it's like a part of her is dead and she visibly came alive when she saw me, she hugged me Emmett, she hugged me and she cried on my shoulder like I was the best thing she had seen all day"

There was a pause as Emmett took that in.

"Damn" he said and she could close her eyes and picture him. "You want me to come and get you?"

"No" she said smiling, "I'm a big girl Emmett…and so's she though Edward seems to think otherwise. She knows what she's doing and I don't begrudge her, her choices, I don't have to like Jacob Black you remember the Chief from long ago? His grandson? But I do appreciate that he's good for her, and besides…it's a different kind of monster that can keep her human."

As if that was the most important thing…sometimes Rosalie could admit even to herself she was losing the plot. But Bella…Bella was an open wound for her too, a living mirror off all that she had and all that she had lost and yet whenever she had tried to point that out nobody, not even Carlisle and Esme had even tried to understand.

The return of the prodigal son.

Always the prodigal son.

Edward.

She wasn't jealous per say. The nature of her relationship with Edward, Carlisle and Esme was complicated on a good day. She viewed Carlisle and Esme in that half world of parents and yet everytime she tried to take that step into letting them know she was dragged backwards to her own parents now dead (for good reason Rosalie had checked to make sure) and the complicated nature she'd had with them which was part parent to a daughter and part pimp getting a virgin ready for the main bidding war.

Edward had a different relationship. He'd had loving parents and he viewed Carlisle and Esme as loving parents too. It was easy for him and it was easy for Emmett too. Alice didn't know any different and Jasper…well…Jasper was Jasper. With Jasper you never really knew and she suspected that sometimes Jasper liked it that way. Indeed most of the time he liked it that way.

She was different, she was outcast, the odd sheep.

Emmett knew all of this but he let her stew in her thoughts when it came to it. His suggestion of telling them this didn't pan out, not really. What was she supposed to say?

"Where are you?"

"I was heading for Washington in case you need me but most of the family is scattered back in Alaska, they went to see Tanya and Kate, God knows you can't get much sense out of Irina these days she's so worried about…well…you get it but…I was doubling back"

"You better go and tell them all Bella's alive" she said looking around the dark street. "And you better tell them about Victoria as well. The dogs seem to have it handled from what Bella says but…it's always good to know."

She heard Emmett sigh over the phone and then he nodded and she smiled a little at his frustration.

"I'll call Alice" she said quietly. "Save you that headache"

"Darlin I love you"

"I know you do" she said laughing. "Remember that the next time Law and Order SVU cuts into the football schedule won't you"

"I never get your obsession with that you know?"

"Oliva Benson—"

"Is not nearly as pretty as you"

She laughed and Emmett laughed down the phone with her. God she loved him, she loved him so much it was hard to breathe (and she didn't even need to breathe) she loved him that much.

"Listen how long do you think you'll stay?"

"A day I think…I'll…I'll make sure she's alright and then I'll go"

"Look at you caring"

She laughed again. "I know, it's a new thing from the Ice Bitch"

"Nah" Emmett said easily, "Ignore Edward and Alice, God knows I do"

She laughs again.

"You sure you don't want me to come down?"

"No" she says shaking her head. "I'll call you when I'm back on the road"

"Alright, love you Rosalie"

"Love you too"

It's as easy to say with or without breathing.

She calls Alice and she gets her voicemail.

Seriously?"

"Bella Swan is alive, the wolves are back—ask Carlisle about that one, and Victoria is back, I am staying here one day and then I am going home and you need to seriously get your facts straight before you put pressure on me again to do anything"

She snaps the phone shut and goes back to the house.

The dog is still there sat on the couch.

"She's gone to get changed" he says standing up. "Sea water you know"

He looks like he wants to kill her, she thinks it's vaguely funny, she can't help herself she really can't. She's Rosalie Hale, she's spent her life poking the bear uncaring if the bear pokes back.

Or dog she supposes.

"I see"

She sits on the edge of the couch and in true dog fashion she thinks she will be magnanimous and throw him a bone.

"Were not coming back"

He looks at her and she raises an eyebrow looking up at him.

"He's not coming back" she stresses and he swallows looking away and she fucking knew it, she fucking knew he had feeling for Bella.

Wolf or not he is a teenage boy and teenage boys cannot keep their feelings to themselves if they tried.

"I see" he says tightly. He shoots her another look and then.

"Your old man called before"

She starts.

"Carlisle?"

"Asked if he could speak to Charlie"

"Oh."

Since when was…the whole point of her being here was so Carlisle didn't have to speak to Charlie! Honestly this…she doesn't know what the hell to do and she supposes she's going to alarm the boy if she rams her head into the wall of Charlie Swan's house.

"What did you say?"

"That he was planning a funeral"

"Whose?"

"His friend, Harry" he says looking for all the world as if he doesn't want to talk to her.

She nods.

"I knew your grandfather" she says suddenly and she watches him out of the corner of her eye seeing his reaction. He turned to look at her shock written all over his features and she smiles. Hook, line and sinker she's got him now. She can't help it, Rosalie will be the first person to admit her vanity doesn't allow her to play second fiddle.

"Oh?"

"I was here back in the late sixties, early seventies when we first settled. He was the one who spoke to Carlisle."

She could tell he was tempted to ask, tempted to know more about his grandfather but his pride and his distrust of her was clear. She watched mostly board as both of those sides played out on his face and then finally Bella came downstairs clad in a pair of fresh jeans and a jumper.

"Rosalie" she said as if she was surprised Rosalie stayed.

"Bella"

But whatever she was going to say was cut off by her ringtone and she sighed.

Alice.

Finally.

"Alice" she said picking up the phone and not bothering to hide her irritation.

"Rosalie, Rosalie, Rosalie!"

It was the same tone of voice as before only this time it was heightened, this was not Alice irritated, this was not Alice scared, this was Alice, completely and utterly terrified of something.

"Rose it's Edward, he thinks Bella's dead—he's…oh God he's going to the Volturi"

For a second she didn't understand and then Alice elaborated as her eyes found Bella's confused ones.

"He wants to die too".

And just like that, Rosalie knew that whatever happened, they were never going to go back to normal again.

And there you go, I hope you enjoyed, next chapter should be up soon.

Next Chapter-Alice implores, blackmails, threatens and begs Rosalie for a favour, Bella puts her foot down, Rosalie has no idea what or why she is doing this, and so we begin.
