Hello, so here I am again with another story again for Rosalie and Emmett a criminally underrated couple. This time we are in a New Moon setting for a smaller story of about 17 chapters all taking place from the Volterra arc. So yeah an AU but only a little bit.
(As if that makes a difference!)
A side note on the relationship with Alice. As I have previously stated as I grow older I find that I struggle with the character of Alice the most. I do see her actions sometimes as toxic and while I don't believe Stephanie intended for her to be written that way sometimes I just want to reach through the pages and shake the vampire until she understands certain things. This was a way of getting all of that out. If you love Alice and think she can do no wrong this might not be the best story for you. Her relationship with Rosalie and how she and Edward treat Rosalie is something I have addressed many a time throughout my fics and stories but I hope that you enjoy nonetheless. This is not intended to be an Alice bashing fic, this is just for me to have my say as an ardent Rosalie fan. For all Alice lovers out there I hope that you understand and I am hopeful that one day I will learn to re-like Alice again.
This is not one hundred percent cannon, if you are looking for word for word perfect scenes out of the book then I am not the author for you, this is my interpretation of these events.
There will be trigger warnings for this story and keep in mind a hell of a lot of swearing for what is in the books, also some interpretation on Rosalie and Emmett's past. This also might turn into an M Rated story depending on how I take it. Again something to keep in mind as we progress.
Some events might be missed from the book as well but the bare bones of it still remain.
Also spelling/grammar etc...not my strongest point. Again something to take note off.
Disclaimer-Nothing is mine.
Please Read and Review.
And on a side note, I like so many other Fanfiction Authors no longer receive notifications via email about reviews/PMs etc. So if you do send any it might be a while, if ever before I get back to you. Please keep that in mind for it is not intentional-If anyone has a fix please let me know.
Also this chapter is based more on the movie than the book, in the movie it all happens in the space of one night and so that's what's happening in this story. Rest of the time it should be a pretty even spread between the two.
And some TRIGGER WARNINGS for Bella's depression (seriously don't get me started on what that turns to in Eclipse) and Rosalie's past.
Spheres Of Influence
Chapter 9-Completely Shattered.
Rosalie and Bella arrive in Italy, it's a race to get to the clock tower, but that is only half the problem.
"Bella, would you mind terribly not picking at the skin of your nails like that?"
"Sorry Rosalie…does it…I mean does the blood upset you?"
Rosalie manoeuvred her car neatly around two Italian drivers who flipped her the finger in the distance and then nearly cut off another one. It was a mark of how good a driver she was (kinda hard not to be when you had eternity to practice) that she managed to not crash either this car or the other one.
Good Lord she had forgotten how terrible the European's were at driving. It was like they thought everything was a war.
And must they use their horns so liberally?
"No" she said shaking her head. "I just think it's a terribly crude habit to shove your fingers in your mouth and gnaw on them like a caveman gnawing on bones. Don't they teach you girls anything these days—" and then she stopped.
"Oh. Sorry Bella, I nearly became my mother then"
Bella let out a strangled kind of giggle. It wasn't a natural sound Rosalie thought but it was better than listening to the girl stress herself out. Rosalie had never bothered with medical school but she thought that you didn't need the amount of doctorates that Carlisle, Edward and Alice had to know that the sound of Bella's heart and how fast it was running was nothing good.
"It's okay" Bella half whispered. "Do you know—"
"Answer hasn't changed since the last time I checked my phone Bella" Rosalie said quietly. "Alice told me it was the Clock Tower and that he was going to do it when the sun came up. I don't know more than that. I do know however that I cannot cross that square as easily as you can. You've got to run and you've got to run fast, preferably without breaking anything either. We don't have time to take you to the ER afterwards. They won't like us coming this close to their city. Aro has already been pushed too far today"
"And Aro is Carlisle's friend?"
"Well…I wouldn't call them friends as such" Rosalie said thinking on what Carlisle had said about Aro and the tone in which he had said it.
"I would think of them as…allies. Carlisle and Aro both came up in the age of the Renaissance, they had…ideals…I genuinely think that they are both enraptured with the other. Carlisle has never met a vampire who can give into his basic nature and yet still be refined and controlled and Aro I imagine has never met a vampire quite like Carlisle. Someone who can control his urges to the point where he can work with blood all day and not even smell it. Carlisle can be elbow deep in the thing and not feel a thing, you saw what Jasper was like with a papercut. To a vampire like Aro one imagines that Carlisle is the most interesting thing that he has ever seen in all of creation. And he likes interesting things"
Bella nodded though Rosalie wondered genuinely if Bella was listening. From the second that she had told Bella what the plan was Bella had been curled up on the seat of the Porsche that Rosalie had took and had been tugging at both her nails and her hands.
"Any chance—"
"Bella I swear to God If you say can I go any faster I will dump you on the side of the road and you can hitchhike to Volterra"
Bella kept her mouth shut from there on out which Rosalie was relieved about. She didn't have the time to deal with a hysterical female on top of everything else that she had to deal with. She found that she was struggling again somewhat with the fact that she was once again in a small space with this woman. Not because of the smell…no actually she was doing rather well with that. The problem was not the smell.
The problem was just the whole…Bella ness of the situation. Rosalie didn't get it. She should, as Edward's sister she should but for the life of her she couldn't understand why it had come to this, what had happened for it to come to this.
"Bella repeat the plan to me"
Blank eyes looked at her for a second and Rosalie swore in her head as she saw the stone walls of the city come into view. She had forgotten it was that dratted day, everyone was in red and she was going to have to flirt like a whore on shore leave if she expected to get past the police.
God she really was beginning to sound like her mother.
"Isabella I am not above stopping this car and turning around and forcing you onto a flight back to America. Believe me it's what my husband wants more than anything and certainly what I would imagine your father would want. Now repeat the plan to me until I am satisfied that you understand what you have to do when I finally get this fucking car through the fucking guards and the gates!"
Christ since when had she turned into this person? The person who championed Bella Swan's safety over all else?
Bella took one look at her snarling face and it seemed to bring her back to reality.
"I have to get to the clock tower" she said finally. "You're gonna try and get me as close to the thing as you can but I have to get to it myself—Alice sent you the directions to where he will be and you've made me repeat them so many times I could start to learn them in another language. I'm good Rosalie, I know what I have to do and what has to be done, I just need you to get me there or as close as you can"
Rosalie nodded grimly and she swerved the car through the gates beeping with enough force that several guards scattered. There were people up ahead and she had seconds. She flung open the door and Bella hoped out and she was gone without looking back her green shirt clashing garishly with the red of the men, woman and children all around her.
Rosalie swore and reversed the car in a move that was pretty sure was illegal and then drove off to find a place to park in the shade. She pulled her sunglasses on her head and she tucked her blonde hair up into a large sun hate and she then took the opportunity to climb one of the back walls to the roof and then she began to jump looking for the clock tower. She had no idea what she was doing, even with her great eyes she could not spot the green that was Bella's shirt and she could not spot the sparkling that she knew would be Edward exposed in the sunlight and she damn well could not hear anything over the screaming and the shouting and the celebratory cheering that was this happy day in this city that ironically had no crime and yet had blood drenched to it's fingertips.
She hated the idea of what came next. She hated that if they were probably in time for dinner. She hated the idea of leaving a family guessing where they're loved ones was. Never having closure, never moving on. She was in that purgatory herself she mused as she dropped down to the alley that was most shaded and waited. She was in that purgatory moment. Never moving forwards, never moving on and though she had told Bella it was because of her desire to have grandchildren, children, a life, old age, death she could admit right here and right now that it was not about that.
It was funny how much certain annihilation put things into perspective for you, she thought as she ducked down through the side streets her heels banging on the cobblestones. If she was human she would have gone flying. Would it kill the Volturi to put in paving stones? Even with all her gracefulness as a vampire she was struggling right here.
But back to her point she found that the world in limbo for her was her past. She had still not let him go, not let Royce go even though she had decapitated him, mutilated him and then scattered his body parts around to his various family members just for the sheer hell of it
She had still not let him go and it had been a blight on her and Emmett's relationship for as long as possible. And so she wanted out. If she got out of this she was leaving the man that had destroyed her in the dirt where he belonged and as she ducked into the next ally avoiding the sun like someone with a disease she found that she was as near to the clock tower as she was going to be without Edward picking up on her thoughts and that she could see him.
Jesus fucking Christ, she thought scathingly. Edward had always had a flare for the dramatics even more so than Alice (and that was saying something) but there was something to be said for the way he was approaching death that was borderline ridiculous. He walked forwards simply, half naked into the sunlight, arms outstretched and if Rosalie thought she could get to him without him panicking and killing the nearest family of human's she would just for the sheer pleasure of smacking him around the face.
She thought of Carlisle and Esme and what they were going through right now and despite the acknowledgement that she knew she would probably be doing the same thing if it was Emmett she felt angry on her parents behalf. Edward had chosen this, he had chosen to walk away from Bella, he had chosen to walk away from her knowing that this was the consequence of his actions. That one day Bella would die. He had known that, had assured them that he was aware of what that would mean and now what? He was going to off himself because he had realised it was too hard? Vampires mated for life everyone knew that and it was not uncommon for a death after that tragedy but Edward had assured them all that he had been aware of Bella's impending death weather it be ten, fifteen or seventy five years down the line. The fact that he had been lying to them, planning a suicide for the exact moment she drew her last breathe made her want to shake him until his perfect teeth rattled.
She watched suddenly as something green hit him and then promptly bounced off him and she grinned. Bella fucking Swan. She had done it. She turned to grab her phone her messages buzzing and then she saw that Alice was ringing.
Oh for fuck's sake.
"What?" she deadpanned answering the phone.
"I just saw—"
"Yeah it's over."
"No it's not, they're waiting in the shadows"
And Rosalie knew what she was saying before she had even said it and suddenly a great wave of hatred hit her so strongly she felt like she was going to spit venom with it.
"And here I thought you were ringing to tell me good job" she spat and Alice gasped a little with the venom.
"Rose—"
"Is my husband there—"
"You want me to get—"
"No I don't want you to worry about a thing Alice" she snarled sarcasm coating her tone. "You just sit there next to Carlisle and let him comfort you and tell you that everything is going to be a-okay because your Alice Cullen! And you can see the future! And everyone is going to fall over you and Bella is going to stop being friends with the werewolf and go back to being your bestie and if not well you can just tell Edward what she's doing before she does it! And don't worry about a damn thing will you? I'll take care of this, but just so you if I make it out of this alive you are going to have to run so far away you might as well never come back."
And with that she hung up the phone breathing hard. She turned it off. Weather or not she had just lost her one chance to speak to her husband, to speak to Emmett before her impending death she didn't care. She didn't care about it at all.
"I love you" she said quietly to the open air and if Alice was watching her right now she could tell Emmett that but Rosalie didn't think that she would have to tell Emmett anything. To be honest she was surprised Emmett hadn't bodily rugby tackled Alice to get the phone. She knew Emmett, she knew him better than she knew herself and she knew that he could hear her. They didn't need magical or special powers to know when the other one was in pain, or in need, or in trouble. They were Emmett and Rosalie and while it might not be a glamourous love story like Edward and Bella and Alice and Jasper, sprinkled with magical powers it was their love story and it was as perfect and as special as it was going to be regardless of how it ended. She had been loved and had known what it was to be loved.
That was all that mattered.
And so with that second of realisation she moved out of the shadows and crossed the courtyard sticking to the shade as much as she could. She chucked the hat and the sunglasses and threw them to the side and the hideous coat until she was one again in her leather pants and shirt that had been her husband's that she had tailored down to her size. She pulled her blonde hair loose and she saw Edward's head tilt to the side as her thoughts entered his.
"You piece of shit" Rosalie thought. "If we live through this I am going to burn you limb by limb and you figure out what part I am going to use first. And if you think of controlling that human girl next to you like Royce did to me I will burn all of your music collection and make you watch and that includes the Mozart sheets that you practically modelled nude for"
Why Edward was choosing this moment to grin she couldn't figure out. But then again Rosalie couldn't figure out why all of a sudden she cared that much.
Fucking humans.
But she was Rosalie Hale and there were two vampires crowding her brother and a human for reasons beyond her comprehension she had suddenly started to care about.
This was her moment.
This was her battle cry.
She stepped forwards.
And there you go, I hope you enjoy.
Next Chapter-Rosalie, Edward, Bella and the Volturi come face to face. Part One.
