Hello, so here I am again with another story again for Rosalie and Emmett a criminally underrated couple. This time we are in a New Moon setting for a smaller story of about 17 chapters all taking place from the Volterra arc. So yeah an AU but only a little bit.
(As if that makes a difference!)
A side note on the relationship with Alice. As I have previously stated as I grow older I find that I struggle with the character of Alice the most. I do see her actions sometimes as toxic and while I don't believe Stephanie intended for her to be written that way sometimes I just want to reach through the pages and shake the vampire until she understands certain things. This was a way of getting all of that out. If you love Alice and think she can do no wrong this might not be the best story for you. Her relationship with Rosalie and how she and Edward treat Rosalie is something I have addressed many a time throughout my fics and stories but I hope that you enjoy nonetheless. This is not intended to be an Alice bashing fic, this is just for me to have my say as an ardent Rosalie fan. For all Alice lovers out there I hope that you understand and I am hopeful that one day I will learn to re-like Alice again.
This is not one hundred percent cannon, if you are looking for word for word perfect scenes out of the book then I am not the author for you, this is my interpretation of these events.
There will be trigger warnings for this story and keep in mind a hell of a lot of swearing for what is in the books, also some interpretation on Rosalie and Emmett's past. This also might turn into an M Rated story depending on how I take it. Again something to keep in mind as we progress.
Some events might be missed from the book as well but the bare bones of it still remain.
Also spelling/grammar etc...not my strongest point. Again something to take note off.
Disclaimer-Nothing is mine.
Please Read and Review.
And on a side note, I like so many other Fanfiction Authors no longer receive notifications via email about reviews/PMs etc. So if you do send any it might be a while, if ever before I get back to you. Please keep that in mind for it is not intentional-If anyone has a fix please let me know.
Also this chapter is based more on the movie than the book, in the movie it all happens in the space of one night and so that's what's happening in this story. Rest of the time it should be a pretty even spread between the two.
And some TRIGGER WARNINGS for Bella's depression (seriously don't get me started on what that turns to in Eclipse) and Rosalie's past.
Also, there is something about Chelsea, her character and her actions and her gift that repels me, I know we do not get a lot of insight into her during the books or the film but when I hear about what she can do it turns my stomach. It really does remind me of cohesive control and so for Rosalie who has been in a relationship like that I could so see her taking this bitch on when it came to the battle in Breaking Dawn (movie and film).
Spheres Of Influence
Chapter 11-Calculated Risk
Rosalie, Bella and Edward meet Aro, Marcus and Caius, Felix makes his stand and Bella appears immune. AKA Part 2 of the Cullen's meet the Volturi.
"Justice without force is powerless, force without justice is tyrannical." Blaise Pascal
They came with a sense of majesty and pageantry even though they were underground. It was like they had carved out this little world for themselves. A world within a world, an underground place and Rosalie suddenly thought of the Star Chamber, Carlisle's recollection of a world gone by where innocent and guilty alike were sent to a chamber where the one man—the King—would pass judgement for he alone had the power of majesty and he had alone had the power to be God.
"Rosalie" Edward hissed but Rosalie ignored them. She was watching the two vampires that had brought them down. They had moved to make room for the three vampires that had come into the room and she knew immediately that they were the tree in charge.
Caius, Aro and Marcus.
It was easy to pick out who was who, Carlisle's painting had not faded from time and they had not changed. Caius was the blonde who looked at her with a look that made her shiver. She had thought Felix was bad but the look on Caius's face was enough to make her wish that Emmett was here with her just so she could hide behind him and close her eyes and press against his warm back and breathe in his comforting scent.
Marcus just looked…board.
Aro looked illuminated. For a show of power and justice it was just that. A show, like Laraunt in the clearing, James hiding behind him but the true power broker of the trio. Aro sat in the middle on the throne that was just an inch larger than the rest of them and she had to hide her smile. This was a man who was used to getting what he wanted.
She let her eyes wander back towards the blonde woman at the back. She was pretty in that way that was showy and flashy. She was tall and blonde and willowy but her body was small and compact. She held herself in a way a slave from the old times would demure, passive, unrecognisable but Rosalie had seen that behaviour in woman before and she knew that there was no way that she didn't know, see and feel everything in the room.
"Chelsea?"she thought once and Edward nodded stiffly. Rosalie smiled grimly. Chelsea. She had heard once what Chelsea could do and it had knocked her sick with so much rage she'd had to take out her frustrations on the forest. It had been hard to tell everyone and anyone what the problem was because she did not like to go into her personal feelings but the truth of the matter was that Chelsea reminded her of her own mother, Royce's mother, Royce himself. To force someone to remain with someone was to her, the rape victim, abhorrent. Chelsea forced people to remain demure and silent and loyal. She took away their consent to leave, their consent to say no. She was the great pimp. She had chosen to be here, she was the only person who probably could leave here and she had chosen to use her gift this way and Rosalie looked at her and red eyes met her butterscotch ones and she threw every ounce of fury that she felt at the woman.
Coercive control. That was what Chelsea did.
If the bitch thought she was coming for Rosalie she would soon learn it would be the last thing that she did. She wondered if it was worth asking her if she had ever considered that the man at her side was with her because he wanted to be or weather she forced him to be there but Edward hissed at her and instead she made do with glaring. The woman's eyes widened a fraction and Rosalie raised her eyebrow.
Seriously bitch you just try it and see how far you get before I put my boot through your neck and snap you like a twig.
"ROSALIE" Edward hissed and she turned her head her mouth curling in a dismissive way and she knew the woman who had took half a step backwards would have flushed if she was still able too. She smiled. God she loved begin victorious. There wasn't a high school bully Rosalie had come across that could take her on. Intimidating Head Cheerleaders was one of the perks that came with being a High School immortal.
"Ah" came a voice and she suddenly understood why Edward had wanted her to pay attention. There was a clapping sound and she saw Aro, suit immaculate, hair tied neatly off his face looking thrilled at the sight of them come down the dais.
"Ah, so Bella is alive and well after all! Oh I do love a happy ending, they are so rare. And Edward my boy! You have brought your dear sister as well! I see so little of Carlisle's children, it is always nice to meet another." He reached out and took Edward's hand rubbing it together in a way that had Edward smiling though it was purely sardonic.
Rosalie watched. She had heard that Aro could hear everything, see everything and she suddenly felt sick. The wolves were one thing she did not want Aro to see. Even she who had no love for the mutts did not want them to fall under the wrath of this man who would annihilate anything that threatened this comfortable existence.
But it appeared Aro did not want to touch her. Instead he turned to face her and she realised with a swoop of amusement of dry, wry, amusement that he had not though her worthy of his touch. How could she? She had no powers, she was off no use to him. She was a pretty woman but he had lots of pretty woman at his disposal.
For the first time she was relieved that she had not had a gift. With Carlisle and Esme and Alice and Jasper it had been a thing that she had thought differentiated between them and yet now it was the thing that was saving her. Saving the wolves, Emmett…Jacob Black.
Rosalie imagined what Ephraim Black would make of that and she had look away biting down on her stone lip so hard that it would be bleeding if she was a human.
"And Rosalie I presume?" Aro said and she turned to him and smiled her most vapid charming smile. "A delight, you must be so relieved you got here in time?"
"Very" she said taking the threat in the tone that was intended. "But anxious to leave, you must understand how dear Carlisle is feeling at the moment. He is terribly anxious to have us home."
"Ah I do appreciate that he must be anxious, my old friend has been wearing his anxiety on his sleeve with his soul for so long. I do admire him"
Admire Carlisle her ass she thought viciously and Edward took his hand out of Aro's. Aro on the other hand seemed not to notice the thoughts that were slipping between the two of them. His eyes were on Bella. He did not seem to look at her the way a vampire would look at a meal, instead he looked at her with interest as if she was the most fascinating thing that eh had seen since the dawn of time and she thought she knew why.
Bella was human. She did not run away from them. She was content to be with Edward a human to a vampire. Did she want more, yes but right now was it a dealbreaker? Probably not. and Edward could not read her mind. That alone had to be an intensely fascinating thing.
For those who thought it was that is. Rosalie just thought it was irritating.
"I would love to send you both back to him with my compliments and Bella of course but I fear we have much to discuss, the problem my dears is the law on humans knowing about us is very clear. And here stands a human in front of us who knows about us. I do not know what to do with this conundrum. Before it did not matter Edward, you were so sure that she was dead"
"Yes" Rosalie interjected. "But the fault for that does not lie with Edward. Besides...who is going to believe Bella if she talks?"
"I wasn't going to—"
Rosalie turned her head to the side to tell Bella with her eyes very clearly to shut up and Bella fell silent at once.
"Yes" Aro said slowly as if he thought that because she was pretty she was therefore dim as well.
"But your restraint" he said turning back to Edward and that was a clear dismissal if Rosalie had ever heard one, "Your restraint Edward! I don't know how you do it, she smells…mouth-watering" he said and then he stuck out his hand.
"I wonder. Do you think she is immune to my gift as she is immune to ours. Before I decide how many rules here have been broken perhaps it would be good to see—"
He trailed off looking at Edward and it was clear that he expected Edward to answer for Bella.
Like she's your kept pet on a leash Rosalie thought scathingly. Jesus Christ this makes the 1930s look like a liberating decade for woman.
Edward opened his mouth and for a second she didn't know if he was going to answer her or answer Aro.
"Ask her yourself" he said flatly and Aro blinked as if there was something almost confusing about asking a mortal permission. The blonde one, Caius shifted on his throne. He had been clearly board out of his mind or perhaps his mind was already made up. From what she remembered he had always been the one who had enjoyed the thrill of justice (if only for the kill) and now during Aro's musing and mutterings he had been sat there looking board. Now he looked interested.
"Bella? May I?"
Bella looking very much as if she was going to be sick let go of Edward's hand and stuck her own out. Edward turned to face Rosalie and for a second they locked eyes. There chances of getting out of this was not very good and Rosalie didn't need him to look at her like that for the message to get across. It did. Loud and clear.
But the chances of them in a fight were not very good and she needed Edward to understand that. She might, might be able to get Felix, Chelsea certainly, maybe a couple more but Jane was too strong and too powerful, Demetri would come after their family as punishment and Bella fell down just as easily as she breathed so breaking her neck was child's play.
She was not going to let these people turn their attention on Emmett, or Carlisle, or Esme, or even Alice and Jasper. No matter how irritated she was with them, no matter what kind of blind fury she felt she was not going to let them die because of this. She was not going to be the one who wiped their family off the map. Edward was not going to be the one who wiped their family off the map.
Do not, she thought viciously staring at Edward, give them the excuse.
But then Aro was laughing and she blinked taking her eyes off him and Edward was suddenly grinning at her and Rosalie was grinning back because of course, of course the irritating, wonderful little human would be immune.
For half a second they locked eyes and smiled and then they wiped their expressions clean and into one of deep concern about what would happen next.
"She is immune!" Aro cried and Rosalie did not know what was worse, the fact that he looked genuinely delighted or the fact that everyone did not.
And suddenly she knew what was coming next.
If she immune to Aro she is immune to Jane, she found herself pleading to her brother. You know this, you know this to be true. I am here because I was asked to be here, Edward please do not put Emmett in danger, he is your brother and he loves you and you love him. Please, I know I am not Alice, I know I don't possess the gifts to make you stop but please Edward if you have loved me or if you have ever loved Emmett please let us see if she is immune? I am begging you I will get on my knees for you right now if it helps…please Edward.
Edward turned to look at her and the butterscotch eyes were anguished.
Please.
"Jane?" Aro called almost cheerful.
PLEASE.
"This may hurt just a little"
And then…
Nothing.
Edward turned to look at her, tearing his eyes away from her and towards Bella and for a second they stared at each other.
"Please"
She didn't know she had said it out loud until she had done and then Bella was standing there her eyes wide and terrified and not screaming in pain and Jane made a noise that sounded as if she was dying.
Rosalie turned…even she wanted to protect the woman in front of her from the harm she was facing and then Bella was back behind Edward and Aro was clapping his hand.
"Oh marvellous, marvellous, la tua cantante" he said nodding to Edward and Rosalie who had been efficient in Italian since 1941 frowned not understanding the meaning.
Singers?
"Aro?" Edward asked tugging Bella behind his side. "Can we know go?"
"Edward my friend I would delight in nothing more than letting you go. Believe me when I truly tell you the last thing that I would wish to do is cause harm to dear Carlisle but my friend…she is human…and she knows"
"If she was to be changed" Rosalie said suddenly. "And if she was to become one of us was no law broken?"
Aro looked at her shrewdly and she felt a flicker of amusement deep within her belly at the look on his face. It was nice having some power in the game and all those who had thought her pretty but dim would suffer when she got her hands on them?
"Yes" he said cautiously "But—"
"She wants it" she said jerking her head at Bella and then Bella possessed by something greater than her own, gripping onto the courage that Edward would stifle spoke into the quiet room.
"I do"
Aro switched pale milky eyes to Bella and Bella nodded. "I do" she said again. "Believe me I do."
"Edward"
"Fuck him" Rosalie said and every woman in the room huffed a smile even Jane though it was twisted beyond repair. "He's a man" she said thinking of Emmett and how much she longed to be back with him. "He's a man. Let me assure you she will become one of us even if I have to bite her myself" and she stuck her hand out—
Rape and all if she had to bare It to every man in this room then she was going to get back to Emmett come hell or high water.
"Edward" Bella said firmly. "Mean it"
And then before Edward could open her mouth the shrill sound of a phone burst through the silence and vampire or not it made her jump.
"Sorry" she said on reflex finding her bag. "That one is mine"
She flipped it open and saw Alice. Alice. Alice who could see the future.
And then because she was Rosalie fucking McCarty she put the phone to her ear and held a finger up at Aro.
"What?"
"Put him on the phone"
"What?"
"Put him on the phone" Alice said. "You might never trust me again but if you have ever loved me you will put Aro on the phone, now"
For a second she was stunned into silence and then.
She handed Aro the phone.
And he took it.
And so the waiting game began.
Yeah so this is different to the book and the film but there we go, Enjoy.
Next Chapter-Alice and Aro talk, a decision is made, a deadline is set. Otherwise known as Edward, Rosalie and the Volturi Part 3.
