Darkness Falls
The Vytal Dance
Beacon was all abustle with talks of the dance the upcoming weekend. It was all the students could talk about, between finding the perfect outfit to who's gonna ask who to the dance. Unfortuanetely for the student body, classes didn't halt just because of the Vytal Dance.
All was quiet in Selena's class as her students were finishing their test over the first few battles of the Great War. The blonde sat at her desk, working on her next set of power point notes for her class, occasionally glancing up when a student came down to turn their tests in.
Ruby walked down the steps, test paper in hand, and placed it on the ever growing pile next to Professor Schade's nameplate. "Thank you, Miss Rose." Selena spoke casually, continuing typing away. When she didn't immediately hear footsteps leaving her desk, the Huntress glanced up, "Did you have a question?" Selena asked, quirking her brow.
"Oh, uh, no ma'am." the young girl stuttered out. "I just, uh-" Ruby rubbed the back of her neck, nervously. "I never met anyone else with eyes like mine before." she finished, swallowing the lump in her throat.
Selena let out a chuckle, "Neither have I." she admitted, folding her hands in front of her. "Do you know what they say about those born with Silver Eyes?" the dark haired girl shook her head. "Well, it's said that those born with eyes like ours are said to be destined for greatness."
Ruby's eyes widened, "Really?" she gasped, grinning ear to ear. A grin that made Selena remember her old friend from years ago.
"Really." Selena echoed, glancing to the clock on her scroll. Ruby turned on her heels and rejoined her teammates at their seats, just as Selena stood up and cleared her throat. "Alright everyone, there's five minutes left of the hour and some of you haven't finished the test. Please set your papers here and come back at the end of the school day to finish."
The few students who didn't complete their tests let out groans and shuffled to the front of the lecture hall, setting their exams on the desk. Among the group were the Belladonna twins, who both had dark bags under their eyes, a telltale sign of sleep deprivation. The bell rang to dismiss class and Selena could all but sigh as she watched them leave, a distant look in their eyes.
At the end of her last class, Koa returned to the 'History of Remnant' lecture hall to finish up her test from two periods prior. She avoided the concerned gaze of her teacher as she grabbed her test paper and took a seat in one of the middle rows.
The minutes dragged on and most of the students finished their exams and left. Selena flipped through the pages of her book, glancing up at the remaining two students. Past the twenty minute mark, Blake finally turned her exam in, followed shortly after by Koalina.
"Thank you, Blake." Selena smiled. "Koa, may I have a word?"
The sisters stopped and shared a look, before the younger shrugged her shoulders, "Of course, Professor Schade." Koa nodded and stood opposite her teacher while Blake left the lecture hall. "Is something wrong?"
Selena pushed her chair back and got to her feet, the heels of her boots 'clicking' and 'clanking' on the floor. "I was going to ask you the same thing." she replied, leaning against the desk. She looked over the young Faunus' face, getting a better look at the bags under her amber eyes. "I can tell you're exhausted. You barely stay awake in class, not just mine, but others. And I observed your team's combat simulation the other day, your movement's weren't as fast as they usually are, your reaction time-"
"I know." Koa sighed, her cat ears falling to the sides. She rubbed her eyes with the heel of her hand, "I'm just not sleeping well, that's all. There's so much to prepare for, with the tournament coming up. Plus-"
"Other things outside of school." Selena finished. Her student looked to her with wide eyes. The professor simply nodded. "Ozpin told me about what happened at the docks, when you and Sun came to Vale before the rest of us did. And I saw something on the news about an Atleasian Paladin racing down the highway the weekend before last."
Koa rubbed the back of her neck, "Listen, Prof-"
Selena held her hand up to silence her student, "Koa, I'm not angry. And you're not in trouble." she assured. "I'm just worried." The blonde placed a soft hand on the Faunus' shoulder. "I also heard about the symbol painted on the Paladin's armor. Is that what this is really about?"
The dark-haired girl sighed heavily and nodded, a tear falling from the corner of her eye. "You still haven't told your team about your past." Selena continued, although she already knew the answer when the young Belladonna met her eyes.
"How can I?" she sniffled, wiping her tears with the sleeve of her uniform jacket. "They've all been hurt one way or another by the White Fang. Ty's mother was killed trying to stop a robbery they were a part of, Gun's father was injured during a protest rally-" she took a shuddering breath and exhaled, hiding her face in her hands as more tears fell. "They'll never forgive me for being a part of all that. Some leader."
Selena pulled the crying girl close and stroked her hair, trying to soothe her. "It's okay." she whispered, letting Koa's forehead rest against her shoulder. "Keeping secrets from your team can weigh heavily on your heart. Believe me, I know." the blonde whispered, continuing to run her fingers through the crying girl's hair. "But, I think your team will be more understanding."
Koa pulled back with a sniffle, wiping her eyes again. "Was yours?" she asked in a shaky voice.
Selena wiped another stray tear from her studen's cheek, "I never got the chance to tell them my secrets." she admitted. "Besides, I was only an honorary member, for like, a year. After we got our linceses, we went our seperate ways." Her eyes drifted towards the large windows looking out to the Quad, a faint image of five figures flashing over an empty bench. She shook her head, "I barely see any of them anymore, and one of them died over ten years ago."
"I'm sorry." Koa apologized.
"Thanks." Selena took a deep breath and exhaled. "Just, take it easy for a couple days, don't overexert yourself anymore. You and your team are more than ready for the Vytal Tournament, and I'll be cheering you on."
The silver-eyed woman smiled sincerly and that made Koa's heart feel just a little lighter. "Thanks, Professor Schade." she smiled in return, her cat ears perking back up. "But I'm still not sure if I should tell them-"
"That's up to you." Selena cut her off. "I won't tell you to tell them or not to. Do whatever you feel is right." She brushed some stray hairs from Koa's face, seeing a little light come back into her amber eyes. "Go on, get outta here. I've got tests to grade." She grabbed the stack of exams and held them against her chest with one hand. "Maybe I'll see ya at the dance."
Koa shrugged and walked out of the lecture hall, stopping in surprise when her teammates were leaning against the wall just outside. "Finally." Nova sighed, taking her partner's hand.
Team KNGT made their way back to their dormatory building, talking amongst themselves and almost crashing into Team SSSN along the way.
"Come on man, the dance is tomorrow." Neptune reminded for the tenth time that day. Him and the team's other two members, Sage and Scarlet, were trying to help their leader get up the courage to ask a certain cat Faunus to the Vytal Dance.
"I know, I know." Sun shook his head. "It's just, every time I'm about to ask her, something comes up and ruins everything."
"Or you choke out the words and make a fool of yourself." Scarlet added with a smirk, his uniform coat draped over his shoulder, revealing a dark red t-shirt underneath.
"Or you don't say anything a still make a fool of yourself." Sage finished, his uniform jacket undone over a white muscle shirt, revealing a small part of his chest tattoos.
Sun rolled his eyes, "Thanks for the vote of confidence you guys." he scoffed, suddenly stopping when his eyes landed on Koa and the rest of Team KNGT walking towards the dorms.
"Now's your chance buddy." Neptune grinned, giving Sun a less-than-gentle shove with the help of Sage and Scarlet.
Sun stumbled forward and braced his arm on the stone pillar to avoid falling flat on his face right in front of his fellow Haven students. The monkey-tailed Faunus quickly regained his composure, "'Sup guys?" he greeted with a smile.
"Hey Sun." the two males of Team KNGT greeted with a wave.
The blonde swallowed the lump in his throat, rubbing the back of his head nervously. "Uh, you mind if I borrow your team leader for a sec?" he asked, glancing to Koa, who had one arm looped through her teammate Tyro's.
"Huh?" Koa muttered, glancing up to see Sun's smiling face. "Uh, sure, I guess." She stepped forward and walked a few paces ahead with Sun, while their teams stood together to watch the conversation.
"Are you okay, Koa?" Sun asked after a long minute of awkward silence. His tail slowly swayed back and forth as he examined the girl's face, which looked like she could fall asleep any second, but she was fighting to stay awake. "Do I need to take you to the infirmary?"
"Is that what you wanted to ask me?" Koa questioned, folding her arms over her chest, her cat-ears twitching slightly.
Sun cleared his throat, shaking his head, "No-no, not exactly." he stammered, rubbing the back of his head again.
"Oh, he's getting flustered again." Scarlet muttered, shaking his head and rubbing his temple.
"Dude's got it so bad." Sage crossed his arms and sighed, closing his eyes.
"Spit it out, Sun." Koa snapped, harsher than what she intended, bracing one hand on her hip.
"Will you be my date to the Vytal Dance tomorrow night?" the blonde spat out in a rush, clapping his palms together and closing his eyes.
Koalina's ears perked up for a brief moment and her eyes widened, taking a few seconds to process the question. This time, she was the one who nervously rubbed the back of her neck, her amber eyes falling on the stones at her feet.
Sun opened his eyes, seeing the changed expression on the girl's face, a mixture of nervousness and something else, sadness maybe? "So? Me and you? Dance?" he gulped.
"Sorry Sun, I don't think I'm gonna go." Koa answered honestly, and the monkey Faunus' expression fell. "I've been running ragged lately between classes, training for the tournament, and the..." she trailed off with a heavy sigh, holding her wrist and looking away.
Sun could read the expression in her tired eyes, knowing she what she meant. The White Fang. "It's okay, I understand." he told her, trying to hide the pain in both his voice and heart. "You need to take care of you first. There'll be plenty of other dances in the future, I mean, we still got a few more years at Haven anyway." he chuckled, putting on a smile.
That got Koa's ears to twitch again, and a small, faint blush to coat her cheeks. "Yeah, I guess." she nodded in agreement. "But, you should still go to the dance. Have fun." she took a step away, "That is what you do best. Having a good time." she flashed him a smile and continued on towards the dorms, her dark hair blowing in the breeze.
Sun kept his smile on his face, watching as the rest of Koa's team caught up with her and they turned the corner out of sight. His shoulders sank, as did his usually perky tail. He felt strong hands on both his shoulders as Sage and Neptune stood on either side of him, "She's gonna stay in tomorrow night." he told his teammates. "But, she does have a lot on her plate, so, guess I get it."
"Maybe next time you'll ask her more in advance." the team's redhead cleared his throat.
"Noted." the blonde held up his index finger in agreement.
Selena walked into the Rec Building which was being decorated for the Vytal Dance. She spotted Ruby, Weiss, and Yang talking with Nova, Sun, and Neptune and headed their way.
"She told me to still go and have fun, but, how can I when she's gonna be in her dorm alone?" Sun sighed, taking the chair opposite Ruby and laying his chin on his arm.
"Well, you also did wait until last minute." Neptune reminded for the eleventh time, patting his best friend's shoulder.
"Why do guys always wait so long to ask a girl to a dance?" Selena questioned, starteling the six students. She chuckled and braced her hands on her hips. "It's either they wait too long or a bet has to be involved for them to ask a girl out at all."
Nova quirked her eyebrow, "Speaking from experience, Prof?" she questioned, folding her arms under her chest. She had her uniform blazer partially unzipped, revealing a red-orange tank top underneath.
"You can say that." the blonde Huntress replied, the corner of her lips turning upwards. "After all, I'm pretty sure that's how I got a date to this thing way back." She shifted her weight between her feet, her pigtails bouncing against her back.
"Who was your date, Professor Schade?" Ruby asked, resting her chin on the heel of her hand.
Selena brushed her bangs aside, flashing back to her teenage self standing in the very same building with the four other students who's team she was an honorary member of as a camera flashed, taking a picture of the five of them by the windows. "I don't think you girls would believe me if I told you." she answered, glancing from Ruby to Yang. "At least, not without some shred of physical proof."
Ruby laid her head on the table, both her and Sun exhaling a heavy sigh. "I still can't think of a way to change her mind." she admitted.
"Guys." Yang spoke up, getting everyone's attention. "Trust me; Blake will be at the dance tomorrow." she promised as she sauntered off towards the door.
Nova tapped her red-painted nail on her chin, "I think I can convince Koa to come too." she admitted, catching Sun raise his brow and look at her. "She's my best friend, there's gotta be something I can say to change her mind."
"You'd do that for me?" Sun asked, slightly cautious of the redhead's intentions.
"No." Nova rebuffed. "I'm doing it for Koa." She spun on her heels, casting a glance over her shoulder, "But, please do wear something more apporapriate for the dance, Sun. Don't wanna embaress the poor girl." She winked before heading out.
Neptune ran his hand over his hair, "Looks like I have some work to do." He slapped his hand down on Sun's shoulder, "C'mon buddy, let's go."
"Thanks Em for helping me with this." Nova grinned, carrying two dress bags over her shoulder while walking hand-in-hand with a purple haired girl wearing the Haven uniform skirt with a lavender off-shoulder sweater.
"Anything for my girl." Emi giggled, pecking the redhead's cheek and squeezing her hand. "I know how much Koa means to you, as a teammate and friend, and besides, no one should miss out on a dance like this. Although, I'm surpised at you playing matchmaker."
"Look, whether or not a relationship does come out of me getting her to the dance with Sun, that's not why I'm doing this." Nova sighed, stopping at the dormatory door with a 'Team KNGT' temporary nameplate, "I just want her out of this slump. She told me her last relationship ended badly, so romance is not my goal."
"Even though Sun is already brainstorming wedding ideas." Emi chuckled, her fingers still interlocked with Nova's.
"Obviously." she nodded in agreement. "I think if she just has fun for one night, it might lift her spirits and she can finally get a good night's sleep before we have those missions on Monday."
"Right, I totally forgot about those." Emi slapped the heel of her palm against her forhead. "Me and my team still haven't decided what we wanna do yet."
"I'm sure you guys will figure something out." Nova winked. "I'll see you tomorrow night."
"Can't wait." Emi leaned forward and kissed Nova's lips, detangling their fingers so she could caress her cheek. "See ya babe." She winked a turquoise eye and walked down the hall, the temporary nameplate reading 'Team MNTE'.
Nova opened the door, finding Koa on her bed curled up under a deep purple blanket, her ears twitching. She dropped the garment bags on her own bed before standing over her partner, "Hey Ko, wake up." the redhead gently tapped the Faunus girl's shoulder, making her stir.
"Huh?" she blinked, her amber eyes fluttering open. "Nove?"
"Hi." Nova plopped down by her friend's legs, a smile on her face. "So, I know what you told Sun earlier about the dance, but, as your best friend and partner who has sworn to have your back till the end of time, I can't in good conscious let you sit this out." she explained. "So, I went into town with Emi to pick up my dress, and bought one for you as well."
"Nova, you didn't have to." Koalina yawned, rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand.
"I know, but I did anyway because I love ya." Nova grinned, holding up a black garment bag. She unzipped it to show her partner what she picked out, and Koa's eyes widened. "You can't be...I can't pull that off."
"Oh, ye of little faith." Nova waved her finger back and forth. "You can and you will, because I am going to doll you up." She pulled out her trunk out from under her bed. "And fyi, you are going with Sun."
The night of the Vytal Dance, everyone was dressed and ready to party. The Beacon Rec Hall was decorated and blasting music. Tables with foods from the four kingdoms lined the walls and students from the various academies co-mingled and some even partnered up.
Yang stood at the podium by the entrance, greeting everyone that walked in. Her blonde hair flowed down her back and she wore a white halter strap dress that reached just above her knees and a pair of matching heels. Standing beside her was Blake, who wore a simple, knee-length purple dress with black pumps and a teal bow.
"Ooohh, you look beautiful!" Yang grinned as her little sister walked in.
Ruby groaned, rubbing the back of her head nervously, trying to maintain her balance on her black pumps, wearing a short red dress with a black lace neckline and black ribbon belt. "Can we have a serious talk about how Weiss fights in these?" She took a step forward and almost tripped, earning a giggle from her older sister.
"It takes some getting used to." Professor Schade's voice caught the girls' attention. Their eyes widned, taking in a different sight of their new, albiet temporay, teacher. Her blonde hair was out of its usual pigtail style and was now softly curled and fell down past her calves, with a small portion tied into a bun and her bangs swept to the left rather than right.
Her dress was a black two piece, with pink trim and straps that wrapped around her neck and upper arms, exposing her shoulders, a small portion of her stomach also showed. The skirt was a high-low style, with a faded black train and pink bow tied around her waist. Her look was completed with a pair of pink and black stilletto boots that went halfway up her calf.
"Welcome Professor Schade." Yang greeted. "And, hope you mind me saying, but you look great."
Selena giggled at the blonde's comment, "Thank you Yang, so do you." she replied. "You as well Ruby. Blake." She cast a glance to the younger of the sisters and their teammate. "Hope you girls enjoy the dance." She tipped her head and continued on inside, grabbing a glass of punch and conversing with the faculty.
Outside the Rec Hall, Sun fidgeted with the loose white tie around his neck. "Stupid...dumb...neck trap." he groaned, smoothing out the black dress shirt his teammates made him wear. His hearing picked up the sound of heels clanking on the stones, and he glanced over his shoulder, seeing Nova and Emi walking arm in arm.
"Right on time, Wukong." Nova grinned, bracing her hand on her hip. Her shoulder length fiery hair was styled in a braid with a jeweled sun clip and her bangs were parted to the right, and she wore a long, pale orange strapless dress, with a black bust and ribbon belt slanted at an angle on her waist and red heels. Next to her, Emi wore a long, one shoulder dress that was pale lavender in color with dark purple ribbon accents and two-toned magenta skirt, her deep purple hair pulled into a partial bun with a few ringlets framing her face and falling down her neck.
"Your date has arrived." Emi smiled, her and Nova stepping aside to reveal Koalina behind them.
Sun's tail stiffened, his blue eyes wide as he took in the sight. Koa stood under the lamp, the light making her amber eyes sparkle. She wore a short, strapless two-toned blue dress with a black ribbon tied around the waist and short dark blue heels with criss-cross ribbons tied around the top of her feet. "Holy Brothers." he gasped, swallowing the lump in his throat, his tail falling against his legs.
"Have fun you two." Emi waved as her and Nova passed by.
"But not too much." Nova added with a playful wink.
Koa walked up to Sun, a blush rising to her cheeks. "You look handsom." she complimented, tucking some of her dark hair behind her ear. Instead of its usual straight style, a portion was pulled back into a braid and tied with a light blue ribbon.
Sun rubbed the back of his head nervously, a blush also rising to his cheeks. "Thanks." he replied. "And you look...absolutely beautiful." He smiled and offered his arm, which Koa took, her cat-ears perking up, and they walked arm-in-arm into the Rec Hall.
Ruby stood by the wall next to Weiss as they watched Yang and Blake dance. "Mission accomplished." the Schnee heiress noted, her hands folded in front of her.
Their two teammates joined them, each carrying two glasses of punch, Blake handing one to Ruby and Yang handing another to Weiss. "See, told you guys I could get her to come." the blonde grinned, bracing a hand on her hip.
"Yeah." Blake nodded with a soft smile. "I'm sorry about the way I was acting these past couple weeks." she apologized, looking to her friends.
"It's okay." Ruby smiled, placing her hand on the dark-haired girl's shoulder. "We're just glad you came out tonight."
"Yeah, it wouldn't feel right enjoying this thing without you." Weiss added. "We are a team after all." She sipped her punch.
"You girls enjoying yourselves?" Selena questioned, joining the four. "Weiss, Yang, you girls did an amazing job with this." She raised her punch glass and flashed them a smile.
"Thank you, Professor Schade." the white haired girl tipped her head. "Now, I'm gonna go make sure everyone else is having a good time." She flashed a smile and walked off, her asymetrical ponytail bouncing on her hip.
"I should get back to the entrance, since more students are arriving." Yang glanced towards the front of the hall, but before she could take a step, Blake placed a hand on her shoulder, "I'll take over for a little bit." she offered instead, and made her way to the podium at the entrance.
Yang smiled and leaned against the table, sighing heavily. "Good, because my feet are killing me." she muttered, flexing her ankle.
"By the way Professor." Ruby glanced up at the older Huntress. "You never told us who your date was."
"Oh yeah. You said we wouldn't believe you without proof." Yang reminded. "Why is that?"
Selena raised her hand to her chin and chuckled, before reaching into the ribbon around her waist and pulling out a photograph. "Because, it was your uncle who asked me to the Vytal Dance."
Both Yang and Ruby's eyes about popped out of their skulls and their jaws fell to the floor. "Uncle Qrow!?" they both gasped.
"Nope, I don't believe it." the younger blonde shook her head. "He does not strike me as the dance type. Even back then."
"Well, here's your proof." Selena flipped the photograph and Yang's jaw snapped shut. The picture was taken in the same Rec Hall they were in at the moment, decorated in a similar fashion, with ballons and streamers of colors representing the four kingdoms, the pair caught in mid-dance with their arms around one another and smiling at the camera. Qrow, much to the sisters' shock, was wearing the Beacon dress suit, minus the jacket and bowtie, and the shirt left untucked, with his dark hair slicked back. He had his arms laced around Selena's waist and, due to their height difference, had his chin resting on the top of her head. Selena had her arms around Qrow's neck and had her cheek against his chest, her blonde hair was pulled into two pointed buns with pigtails reaching the top of her waist. Her dress was long and black, with thin straps, a high slit up the sides reaching her lower thigh, a crimson ribbon tied around the waist and a matching sheer shawl draped over her shoulders, and a pair of dark red knee-high boots.
Ruby's eyes sparkled, "Wow, you looked so pretty." she complimented. "I still can't believe Uncle Qrow wore a suit." she snickered.
Selena let her take the picture, both sisters continuing to stare. "I know, right." Yang agreed with Ruby's earlier comment.
"I had those same thoughts myself." Selena chuckled. "Looking back, I'm sure some kind of bet was involved between Qrow and Tai about the whole thing." a faint smile crossed her lips as she took another sip of her punch. "You know, your mom's the one who took that picture."
"You...you knew our mom?" the younger silver-eyed girl questioned, glanincg up at the older woman with the same color eyes.
Selena's eyes met Ruby's and she could see so much of her late friend in her it almost made her tear up. "I did. She was the first friend I ever made here." the older blonde admitted. "Followed by your father and uncle. Speaking of-" she swallowed another drink. "If Qrow ever asks, you didn't get that picture from me. You girls found it in a box of your parent's things." She gave the girls a wink.
"Sweet." the Rose-Xiao Long sisters shared a grin, looking forward to the next time they saw their uncle just to tease him about the contents of the photograph. They watched as Selena talked with Professor Goodwitch and General Ironwood, "You don't think Professor Schade and Uncle Qrow ever..." Yang began to ask, glancing to her little sister then to the picture she held. Both girls wondering if some sort of relationship came out of their time after the dance.
"Nah." they agreed in unison. They both loved their uncle, but they also knew he was the 'terminal bachelor' type. And Selena looked like she was the opposite of that.
Selena leaned against a pillar decorated with pink and blue streamers, checking an old message on her scroll from nearly a month prior.

With a sigh, she closed her scroll and tucked it back into the ribbon tied around her waist. Her eyes scanned the dancefloor, catching sight of Koa finishing up a dance with Nova, both girls hugging before going back to their original partners. She smiled at the sight.
"Taking a break?" Ozpin questioned, standing beside the blonde, resting his hands on the top of his cane.
"Just watching the kids have a good time." Selena replied, her silver eyes still on the dancefloor.
Ozpin could tell from the blonde's expression that her mind wasn't enterily on the students attending the dance. "I saw you speaking with Miss Rose and Miss Xiao Long. Is tonight bringing up some old memories?"
Selena rolled her eyes, "Ever the inquisitor, aren't you Oz." she glanced at him, quirking her eyebrow. "A few." she shrugged.
The headmaster cleared his throat and sheathed his cane, placing the handle on his back, before offering his hand. "As the hosting headmaster, as well as a gentleman, it'll be rude to let a beautiful visiting professor alone. May I have this dance, Miss Schade?"
His kind smile earned a chuckle from Selena, who placed her hand on his, "As a visiting professor, it would be rude of me to decline such an offer from the hosting headmaster." she replied, "Of course, Professor Ozpin." She curseyed before allowing the man to lead her to the dancefloor, taking one of her hands in his own and placing the other slightly above her waist.
Selena glanced to a pair of students in the corner; a male with silver hair in the traditional Haven dress suit and a girl with dark skin and red eyes, wearing a deep green dress. She blinked and switched focus, seeing Ruby standing alone by the punch bowl with two glasses, her eyes moving past the lone girl and looking out the window.
"Looking for someone in particular? Or just reminiscing again?" Ozpin asked, spinning the girl before taking her back in his arm.
"Neither." Selena replied, putting on a smile. "It's not like I'm expecting him to stumble through the front door and ask me to dance." She rolled her eyes and shook her head. A long minute of silence passed before she cleared her throat. "Have you heard from him recently? It's been almost a month Oz."
The pair continued to dance to the music, Ozpin dipping Selena briefly before returning to the simple waltz. "Nothing new I'm afriad." he answered, catching the slight downward glance from his dance partner. "But, I'm sure he's fine. He's more than capable, one of the best Huntsman. You know this."
"Yeah, I know." Selena sighed. "It's just, three weeks is a long time to go dark, especially now."
"I know. You care about him." Ozpin squeezed Selena's hand reassuringly.
"He's one of the few friends I have." Selena defended. Before she could say something else, she was caught off guard when she saw Jaune Arc walk onto the dancefloor, wearing sneakers and a strapless off-white dress. "Uh...Oz..."
The slow music stopped and was replaced with an upbeat tune as Team JNPR moved to the middle of the dancefloor and performed a choreographed number in perfect sync for the song's chrous and soon, the rest of the students joined in, doing their own moves to the beat.
"Well, now that's the spirit." Ozpin chuckled, clapping after Team JNPR's impromtue performance.
Selena stifled her chuckled by covering her mouth with the back of her hand, "That Jaune boy is something else." she giggled. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a figure jumping over the dormitory rooftops, her eyes narrowing.
As the clock struck midnight, Selena slid around a pillar, out of sight from anyone. She lifted her right foot, pressing the bottom of her heel and out slid a black cased scroll. She opened the screen and placed her thumb on the scanner, opening a new message.

Selena rolled her eyes and closed the scroll, slipping it back into the heel of her boot. "Gods, even through texts he's annoyingly condescending." she thought with a groan. "I hate that guy."
