Hermione took the ingredients out of the microwave and completed her invisibility potion. She let it steep and cool the appropriate time then taking a deep breath drank the vial. She started the timer and was looking at her notes when she felt a strange tingle go through her entire body. A burning sensation began to spread outwards from her core as she felt every cell in her body. Soon the sensations overwhelmed her and she fell to the floor.

When she came to she sat up. She felt normal but she could not see her hands. She could not see her arms. She lifted her shirt and could not see her own belly. Jumping up she ran to her room to stand in front of the mirror on her closet. A set of empty clothes hung in mid air turning and moving. Crookshanks looked at her curiously then with an air of disdain went back to sleep in the afternoon sunshine.

It had worked, she was actually invisible. The book she had been working from said it would wear off after a few hours, based on weight and metabolism. She had calculated with the dose she had made and her weight it should have lasted for two and a half hours. She looked at the clock and realized it was now almost six hours after she had taken the dose.

The only way she knew she had shaken her head was the feeling of her hair moving against her shoulders. She went back downstairs and checked her notes, checked her formula. It should have worn off by now. She shouldn't be invisible. Since it would naturally wear off there was no specific counter agent. There was a general counter agent in the book she began to work on. She was still working on it when her parents came in.

"Uh. Hermione. Why is there a set of your clothes floating in the kitchen?" Her dad called out.

"Because I'm wearing them." she said turning to give him a hug. Her dad tensed as he felt her arms wrap around his chest but he didn't see anything. When she let go he and her mother looked at each other with a nervous laugh. "Okay well as long as you don't become a homicidal maniac this'll be alright."

"Daad. HG Wells was a squib who only included that in his story to make it more dramatic. The standard invisibility potion is supposed to wear off after a few hours." Hermione said nervously.

"Oh so we'll see you for dinner then?" Dan asked with a laugh.

"Uh. Well maybe." She said awkwardly. Crossing her arms in front of her.

Emma looked at the air above Hermione's shirt suspiciously, "What do you mean maybe?"

"Well the dose I made this morning should have worn off already. I'm not entirely certain why it hasn't." Hermione confessed.

Dan pulled out a chair and sat down. "Okay. So basically you made a medicine that worked too well. Or took too much."

"I suppose. I went back over my notes and figures. I might have made a mistake."

"Is there someone you can call or contact?" Emma asked in concern.

"Uh maybe. I guess there's always Saint Mungo's. I probably just need to finish making the general counter agent or wait. Its not supposed to be permanent." Her voice held a slight current of anxiety.

"Well you know pumpkin we've had people put off coming in and lost a tooth we could have saved. Let's not make that mistake here."

"I know dad. I'll go to the hospital tomorrow if I haven't returned in the morning. Now I need to finish this potion, please."

"Oh certainly. Your mum and I need to go get changed and uh I guess we'll have take out tonight?"

"Sure dad." She smiled then frowned as she realized her dad wouldn't see it.

===xxx

Dan and Emma had gone upstairs to let Hermione work and to change clothes.

"Do you think she'll be alright?" Dan asked.

"Well she's brilliant, and usually knows what she's doing. I suppose she'll be alright." Emma said.

"Okay. I just have no idea about this magic stuff. It can be incredibly neat but scary. She's invisible and telling me that H.G. Wells was a, whatever a squib is." Dan shook his head with a sigh.

Emma shrugged, "I trust her. She'll figure it out."

"Okay." He said with a nod.

===xxx

Hermione had finished the universal counter agent and set it aside. She would take it just before bed if she hadn't returned to visible status. At least she was still solid and all in one piece. She had examined herself and seemed to be physically unchanged except for being transparent.

"So how's it going?" Her dad asked coming into the kitchen.

"Okay. I got the counter agent brewed and am going to put it in my room. I'll take it before bed if I haven't come back yet." She said.

Dan cleared his throat seeing a small vial floating in front of him. "Okay. I called and ordered the pizza. It should be here when you get back down."

"Thanks dad."

===xxx

Dan and Emma watch the pizza slices float up, have a bite disappear from them, then settle back onto the plate.

Hermione's voice chuckled, "What's so interesting?"

"Well we're just watching you eat. Once you bite it we don't see it. The food just vanished." Emma said.

"Really? Hunh. That must mean my skin is somehow refracting the light around me." She took a bite then opened her mouth. Emma harrumphed.

"Okay I can see your food when you open your mouth no need to be gross." Emma said.

"Really? I didn't see anything."

"That's because I had my mouth pointed at mum. My skin must block or refract the light around. I wonder if my internal organs are invisible too."

"Well we're not going to cut you open and find out."Dan said hurriedly. "I suppose you could go ask Dr Wilson."

Emma looked askance at Dan as Dr Wilson was the gynecologist that she and Hermione went to for their checkups. "Oh yes. And how do we explain this to her?" Emma asked waving her hand at the empty but obviously not empty shirt beside her.

"Uh well. That might prove awkward." Dan admitted.

Hermione laughed uncertainly, "Well it'll be alright. If mum doesn't mind she could check."

"I will leave exploring inner-space up to you girls. There are just some things that I don't need to know." Dan said in disgust.

"Yeah dad. I like you but. No." Hermione agreed.

"Sweetie open your mouth again." Emma asked. "there is more than one way to see inside someone."

Hermione did so and said ahh. Emma carefully moved her hand until she felt Hermione's hair then moved her hand until she found Hermione's mouth. Looking carefully she sighed, "Well your teeth and cheeks, and tongue are all invisible."

"Oh great. Well that's going to make giving you a check up rather rough." Dan said with an awkward laugh.

"Dad magicals do not get cavities. And if my tongue and teeth are invisible that means most of my cells are more than likely invisible." She said curious.

"Yeah well let's not do anything too wild to make sure." Dan reminded. "I know you like to push your limits a lot but still."

"I know dad." She said distractedly. Emma and Dan both glanced at each other as they heard the tone she used. The same tone that came usually before she came running confessing that she had blown something up, burned it down or otherwise had a calamitous end to one of her experiments.

The family settled in the family room to relax and watch some television. Hermione kept fidgeting and even though her parents couldn't see it she kept lifting her hands up to see if she could see herself.

"Sweetie you are dancing on the couch like a jumping bean." Emma said lightly.

"Sorry mum. I just. I'm nervous and concerned. What if this doesn't reverse. What if I can't be visible again."
"Hermione Jean. I am sure that someone as smart as you would be able to figure something out." Emma said firmly.

Hermione took a deep breath, "I suppose so mum. I'm sorry. I need to relax."

"Exactly. You said you made that counter agent thing, and you can try and sleep on it. Why don't you go up and take a hot bath. That might help you feel better."

"True. Okay. I love you mum." Hermione said giving her mother a hug then her dad.

Once she was upstairs Dan moved over to beside Emma, "Good job calming her down. Sure you aren't a psychologist?"

"No, I'm even better I'm a mother."

"And a very good one at that." Dan said nuzzling her.

===xxx

Hermione sat in the tub of hot water. She could tell where her body was due to the void in the water she displaced. It was odd how the invisibility was working. She held the bar of soap in her hand and could still see it through her hand. She wondered why. Maybe it was a field on the surface of her skin that or her skin itself? The food she had eaten was not visible in her mouth unless she opened it..

Getting out and drying off she started brushing her hair as she thought about it. She had an idea though as she brushed her teeth and realized the toothbrush had not vanished at all. She could feel it going over her molars and yet she could see it through her cheek.

Going into her room naked she ran into her dad. "Oh sorry dad."

"Uh where are you?" He said freezing "And I take it since I can't see you that you're naked?"

Hermione grimaced, "Oh yeah. Sorry dad. I just realized something and was rushing to my room to test the theory and sort of forgot to put my towel on."

"Right a eureka moment then." He said, "I'm sure the other Greeks got used to Archimedes running around without his towel too."

"Thanks dad I knew you'd understand." she said, "Uh good night."

"Good night Pumpkin." Daniel said as Hermione opened then closed her door. He relaxed a bit but did wave his arms a bit at her head height to make sure before making his way to his bedroom. Emma came through a few minutes later but had no cloaked encounters,

===xxx
Hermione's theory was that the magical field effect causing her to be invisible must only work on an object if its completely contained by her body. She took a round crystal ball about the size of hen's egg off of her dresser. She had gotten it when she was still contemplating divination and kept it because it was pretty.

Taking it she put it in her mouth and closed. The crystal had vanished. She spit it out into her hand and grinned then thought she had two other body cavities that could have similar results. Taking the crystal in her hand she thought about it and decided that one point of testing would suffice for now. She was going to become visible by morning and this would all be a curious and moot point.

Taking the universal counter agent she felt it tingle through her as its warmth spread through her. Laying down she tossed and turned but soon managed to quiet her mind and fall asleep.

===xxx

The next morning she woke up and sighed as she did not see herself. She pushed and prodded and tugged at her skin but there was not even a flash of light or any sign she was there except for tactile sensations.

Looking the mirror she frowned, although the only way she knew she was frowning was the muscle movement. She pulled out a set of clothing. It seemed Saint Mungo's was the only choice she had.

Dan and Emma were sitting down to breakfast when Hermione entered. "Oh Pumpkin. You're still."

"Yes Dad I know." She interrupted.

"Sorry. So I guess we'll take you to this Saint Mungo's?" He said.

Hermione shrugged, "Can mum do it. I want her to come with me." She said in a slightly small and needy voice.

Dan had no ego problems and knew she needed her mother's comforting way more than his jokes and awkward behavior. "I think that can be arranged." He agreed.

"Yeah. You'll tell Margaret right?" Emma asked him.

"No problem. We'll juggle a few things and people will understand."
"Are you sure I don't want to be any trouble."

Now Dan and Emma both knew she was worried as she never lost her confidence this badly.

Dan sighed, "Well if they don't understand enough laughing gas and they'll get over it eh?" He joked.

"Daad." She said but did laugh which made Dan feel a little better.

"Make sure you have all of your notes and formulas and will they need any of the stuff itself?"

"Probably. I still have the vial I used." She said. Looking at the corner of the kitchen they had set aside for her potion making.

"Do you think having breakfast will affect things?"

Pulling down a box of corn flakes Hermione said, "No but I'll still eat a light one anyhow."

===xxx

Hermione and Emma walked into Saint Mungo's. Emma was flabbergasted by the sheer strangeness of the people, injuries and things going on. Dan would have been openly staring she knew, especially at the one woman whose large bosom refused to stop moving even when she was sitting still. The person glowing blue with little sparks of light snapping off of them made her nervous.

Emma sort of tried to sit quietly and mind her manners like she had been taught. The man who sat beside her that had his head in his lap though made her a bit queasy.

Hermione leaned over close, "Are you okay mum?" then she had to jerk back quickly as her mother almost head butted her.

"Sorry didn't see you there. Uh yeah. I'm fine." Emma replied uncertainly.

Hermione chuckled, "Sure mum." She said. She would have just nodded but she realized that would have been pointless.

When they got called back the Healer checked her over, tested her. Took the vial with the potion residue and sent it out. She did discover that her blood did not revert back when it was separated from her when they took some to test.

The healers huddled and had her swallow several potions. They cast several spells on her and then her and her mother were left alone in the exam room.

"Well this is going good." Hermione huffed.

"Its not much different than a normal hospital. They have to run tests, and determine what sort of treatment you need. I'm sure just because they have magic its not much different." Emma said repeating herself as she was just a bit on edge, smothering those feelings for Hermione's sake.

Eventually a medium height, middle aged healer came in. He had a serious expression on his face.

"Hello Mrs, Miss Granger? I'm healer Mark Piper."

"Hello. I'm Hermione's mother. What have you learned?" She asked worriedly.

He looked at the clipboard in his hand before saying, "Well let me just ask a couple of things before I answer that alright?"

The two females agreed so he asked, "Mrs Granger you're a muggle, living in a muggle household?"

"Yes. My husband and I are both non-magical." She confirmed.

"And you used a micronicwaver?" He asked.

"A microwave?" Hermione clarified, "Yes I did. I wanted to soften the brocoflower petals and I put them on a plate in the microwave."

"I was afraid of that. You see ever since those things started becoming common in some muggle-born households we've seen some rise in injuries. Permanent injuries. Potion ingredients do not react very well with whatever it is that makes those microwaves work."

"Permanent?" Emma asked.

"Well yes. It overwrites the magical pattern of the person in strange and unpredictable ways. Your daughter is very lucky she got off as lightly as she did." The healer explained sympathetically.

"Okay so can't you fix that? I mean you have magic. Rewrite the pattern or put the parts that got broken back in." Emma was slightly annoyed and that was starting to escalate.

"Well you're a muggle so you don't understand but I'll try and explain it as simply as I can. A witch or wizard's magical pattern defines everything about them. It determines how their magic flows through their body and interacts with the world around them. It goes beyond mere hair or skin color but into the very aspects of ones form. You should have noticed your daughter is far healthier than any of her muggle friends that is determined by her magical pattern. Every aspect of her magical existence, her physical body, all of it is determined by her pattern."

"Okay. So I still don't understand why you can't fix the problem?"

"Well if you change your pattern in a controlled manner it can be repaired easily. This is the second time your daughter has changed her pattern in an uncontrolled and unplanned manner. The first time with the poly-juice potion incident and now this. So her pattern is scrambled and corrupted. If we try changing it we could do more harm than good. We could kill her, turn her into a kitten or who knows what."

"So what does this mean?" Hermione finally spoke up. "Will I lose my magic?"

"No. However what this means is that becoming an animagus is barred to you forever, you should probably also refrain from physical transfiguration of yourself. As well as avoiding poly-juice."

"What about her invisibility? Will that fade?" Emma demanded.

Healer Piper shook his gray haired head. "No, I'm sorry its permanent. There is nothing we can do."

Hermione's shoulders slumped Emma could tell only by the general shape of the jumper. She was a medical professional and while she rarely had to give this kind of news she did know it could happen. They listened as the healer rattled off the changes and secrecy act issues she would face.

===xxx

On the drive home Hermione sat silently staring out the window. Hunched down so that her empty clothes did not show. She was sniffling slightly Emma could hear over the sound of the tires humming.

Finally Emma said, "Well what do they know anyhow. They probably test for diabetes with their finger."

Hermione shifted in her seat Emma saw out of the corner of her eye. She continued, "Look you'll get through this somehow. You'll figure a way to cure yourself, or work something out. I have faith in you Sweetie. I mean you do more impossible things before breakfast than anyone else. And all the stories you've told us about what happened at school. How you've managed to overcome some pretty major obstacles, work out some pretty heavy puzzles. I know you'll overcome this too."

Hermione's posture seemed to be like she was considering it before shrugging, "If you say so mum ."

"Hey. Don't get discouraged now. Think of it like this. You still have all your smarts, all your appendages, everything works. Its just invisible. You dad and I will do everything we can to help you. We love you and won't think any less of you."

"Even if you can't see me?" Hermione grumped.

"Well I have to admit it will make the family portrait a bit interesting. But we haven't tried a few things. I have an idea."

Her mother pulled into a shopping center and after parking well away from the building said, "Okay. I'm going to go in and see about some makeup or body paint. We'll see what we can do yet. Okay?"

"Alright mum."

"I'll be right back." She said leaving Hermione with the keys so she could listen to the radio or put the windows up or down.

Hermione was waiting when she realized people could see at least her shirt moving in the car with no body in it. Shrugging since no one could see her anyhow she took her shirt and bra off. The slight awkwardness of being topless in a shopping center fading as she became comfortable.

A few chavs were wandering the lot peeking in car windows when one of them discovered the keys hanging in the ignition, "Hey Bois. Got one."

He started to open the door when Hermione yanked on it slamming it back as he was so surprised he let go of it. She hit the power locks and the teen outside jumped back.

"What the hell mate? Ye get bit or sometin?" One of the others came over and smacked him on the back of the head.

"No. the door shut itself then locked." He said.

Hermione slid over into the drivers seat. Her trousers and knickers visible if they cared to look back in. She had not actually driven a car yet but she knew the basic principles and had read the manuals. So she started the car causing all of the chavs to jump as from their perspective the car had started on its own.

"Maybe its some kinda weird alarm system." One suggested before Hermione put the car into gear and started carefully driving away from them. They stood there mouths agape watching a driver-less car roll away from them then turn the corner and park itself a few rows over. She shut the car back down and started laughing.

Quickly finishing undressing she sat in the seat making the car look like it was completely empty as the bravest of the chavs came cautiously creeping up on the passenger side of the car. Looking in the passenger compartment he cautiously tried the door handle to find it locked. He raised his hand which held a small hammer and prepared to swing on the window which Hermione had lowered quickly. When he swung his hand did not encounter the window so it came into the compartment. Hermione raised the window causing him to jerk his hand back quickly, dropping the hammer in the process.

Screaming he decided to run away, there are some who say he is still running to this day.

Hermione almost doubled over in laughter and almost didn't see her mother looking around the lot in confusion. Honking the horn she slid back over to the passenger seat after tossing the hammer into the back. Unlocking the door for her mother she was still laughing.

"Okay. This is new." She said holding the bag out for Hermione to take.

"Sorry mum, some bums tried to break into the car since they didn't see anyone in it." She giggled.

"Oh. And you played the friendly ghost and they ran away?" Emma said starting the car and heading back for home.

"Something like that."

"So do you feel better?" Emma asked chuckling slightly.

"I guess. So what's all this?"

"Well some cold cream, some foundation, some spray tan, and some lipstick. Some dark sunglasses. Rubber gloves. So at least you won't have to wrap yourself in bandages." Emma listed the things in the bag.

"Thanks mum. When we get home we can try this. Hopefully something works." Hermione did not sound too hopeful, but she was at least a little bit. Emma counted that as a success as it was more than she was earlier.

"Well at the very least if it doesn't we can put you in some rubber gloves and see if your uncle Paul can get any of that liquid latex stuff they use in the theater." Emma suggested.

"Okay that sounds good."

===xxx

Arriving home Emma drove into the garage so Hermione could get out. She didn't bother with her clothes which made Emma start to say something but decided not to add any extra stress to her.

They tried the various makeups, and spray tan. The spray tan showed her body briefly as a void in the spray but once it contacted her skin it vanished.

"Well great. We should have realized this wouldn't work." Hermione huffed.

"Oh and why not?" Emma asked with a frown.

"Look at this?" Hermione said. Emma looked trying to see something.

"Uh what am I looking at?"

"The bottom of my foot. It has dirt on it but you can't see it. Something that touches my skin must turn invisible too."

"But your clothes touch your skin and they don't turn." Emma pointed out.

"Maybe they don't touch tightly enough. Maybe since the makeup enters my pores magic considers it part of me." Hermione sighed. "I'm going to go take a shower and get this stuff off of me."

"Okay. Your dad will be home soon so I'll go give him the news."

"What that he'll never see his daughter again?" Hermione grumped.

"No that we're going to have to spend this summer working on fixing this."

"There is no fixing this mum. I am going to be like this forever. You heard him. A magical pattern when broken as badly as I've broken mine can't be fixed. Its lucky I'm not dead. I screwed up so badly I almost killed myself." Hermione wailed before throwing herself on her bed. The depression in the mattress and pillow showing where she laid.

Emma reached out to rub her daughter's back, hoping she was laying on her stomach or this could be awkward. Finding that she was rubbing her back she tried to be comforting, "C'mon Sweetie. Its going to get better. I'm sure you will."

"Just let me have some time alone mum. Please." Hermione's voice warbled from the pillow between sniffles.

"Okay. But your dad and I still love you. We'll be here for you when you're ready." Emma patted her back one more time then left.

===xxx

Dan came in from the office and his first words when he saw Emma were, "Well? How is she?"
Emma explained what the healer and Hermione had said. How she was going to be permanently like that. She also explained about the makeup and tan and how it had failed causing Hermione to release her pent up feelings.

"Well we knew something was going to happen. As many risks and dangers she has faced. It could have been much worse." Dan said sitting down.

"I know but she's scared and worried." Emma said with a sigh.

"Yeah. So what can we do to help her?" Dan thought out loud.

"I don't know. She says that there isn't much that can be done." Emma replied.

Dan laughed, "Maybe we can get her an encounter suit like that Vorlan guy."

"Vorlon dad." Hermione corrected with a slightly dejected tone. The fact she was still naked made Dan jump.

"Gah. Okay. First rule, if you're going to be around us wear something. I don't care if its a shirt, a funny hat or a bell on a collar. My heart can't take too many startles like that." Dan held his hand over his chest panting exaggeratedly.

Hermione chuckled ruefully. "Right dad. And I'm sorry."

"Sorry for what?" Dan said.

Hermione pulled out a chair across from her parents. "I made a mistake and did this. To myself."

"Yeah but it could be worse? I mean you could be a cat. They did say that was possible. I mean at least your still a person. With all the same parts, in their proper places."

"Yeah as if I didn't already have trouble getting a boy to look at me."

"I'm sure that Potter kid will not mind playing hide and seek with you." Dan said wiggling his eyebrows.

Hermione blushed, not that anyone could see her. "Daaad! He doesn't think of me like that. I don't think of him like that. We're just really good friends."

"Really?" Emma asked sarcastically. "Your letters have almost sounded like you wanted us to reserve Winchester Cathedral for the two of you."

Hermione frowned but since her parents couldn't see it she sighed, "Okay fine. Maybe I've written about him a little bit."

Dan reached out to find her hand. She reached out and took it. "Okay. Look pumpkin. We wondered if there were other boys in the school besides this Harry kid due to the way you wrote."

"Okay well maybe Harry and I do spend a lot of time together." She sighed, "I was supposed to go to the Quidditch World Cup. Its in Cornwall this year."

"Well that could pose a bit of a problem then." Emma said.

"I'm sure they'll hold it here again." Dan said squeezing Hermione's hand.

"Okay dad. I'll have to tell Harry and Ron I won't be going." Hermione's voice sounded unhappy but not heartbroken anymore.

"So now how are you going to deal with this? Since we can't change you. What can we change?" Dan asked.

Hermione thought for a long time, "Well since the potion was supposed to change how my cells refract light I will have to change the light? Or the magic. Or how the light interacts with the magic." She said thinking. "I need to do some research. Only I don't think I have the right books. Can I have some money to send away for some books?" She asked with the pouty puppy dog expression Dan knew from the tone of her voice. Whenever she wanted new books she used that tone and expression.

Dan sighed, "Just total it up and I'll get a check ready." The Grangers had taken advantage of a Goblin run program where they could deposit money in an account for Hermione without opening a vault. Apparently they had an agreement with muggles banks that let them do that.

Hermione's voice sounded much happier, "Thanks dad. You're the best."

He laughed as she gave him one of her glomping hugs before the slapping of her bare feet on the floor indicated she had run from the room. No doubt to find the list of books she had ideas on ordering.

"Well that seemed to motivate her." Emma said with a grin.

"You just have to know the right techniques." He said rubbing his nails on his shirt.

Emma rolled her eyes but happily looked at her husband who had turned their daughter's dejected outlook around. "Just don't let it go to your head captain ego."

"Awww."

===xxx

The month of July saw multiple packages show up for Hermione. Delivered by a Goblin delivery service. Dan simply shook his head at the titles such as Thaumaturgical Devices and You, The Dummies Guide to Thaumic Manipulation and Advanced Runic Structures.

Dan also was happy to see Hermione at least wearing a pair of shorts around the house. So they could know where she was. Her mood was the same determined, focused, and driven one she had when there was a major problem she had wanted to defeat. A task to destroy.

They made sure she had food, and drinks available but as it was a subject they had no frame of reference for they simply tried to ensure she was not overworking herself.

"Hermione. How goes the research?" Emma asked at dinner one night. A book tilted beside the plate that had rapidly disappearing food. "And slow down. If you get choke I'm not sure we can figure out how to help you."

"Right sorry. I guess I didn't think about it." She said distractedly.

"So do you have any ideas?" Emma asked. Dan chuckling slightly.

"Yes actually I think I have figured out how this is working. The potion actually sets up a microscopically thin field around and over my body. Anything that is not physically attached to me will vanish. So any makeup or paint or anything directly touching my skin in that thin layer will vanish. My clothes do not because they are thick enough to be outside the field." she breathlessly explained. "So what I need to do is cause a disruption to the field which will bleed off the effects into etheric space. Making me visible again. It'll have to be something that actually touches my skin within the field's event horizon."

Dan nodded, "Okay good job. I actually understood more than half of that explanation."

"Sorry dad. Basically."
Dan shook his head with his hand up. "Nope. No. Just as long as you understand what you're talking about. So." He paused for dramatic effect, "Is there anything you need us to do?"

Hermione's voice made a few uh, uhm sounds before she said, "Could you get me a microengraving tool? Or at least the finest tipped one you can find? And maybe several metal cased watches or bracelets? Ones that would fit snugly against my wrist without forming an air gap?"

Dan sedately nodded, "Sure. I'll get right on that and see what I can do. I don't suppose that Goblin delivery service would have one?"

Hermione made a gasp of recognition, "Oh yeah they might. Thanks dad." A hug and she was gone from the room, pausing only long enough to put a book mark carefully in her book and gone.

"You know. This keeps up you're going to be her favorite parent." Emma observed.

"You mean I wasn't already?" He smugly smirked at his wife, she simply shook her head, "Okay you get to help her figure out how to deal with her period next week, Mr favorite.."

Dan paled briefly before looking at his bare wrist, "Oh my look at the time, those dishes aren't going to do themselves."

Emma laughed softly, "Coward."

Dan kissed her on the top of the head as he carried the dishes to the sink, "I prefer to think of it as a strategic usage of appropriate resources."

"And what is that supposed to mean." Emma laughed,

"You have the same plumbing she does, you get to help her with that stuff." he said with a slight shudder.

Emma rolled her eyes and walked out, "Don't forget to get the pans to soak." She said on the way out.

Dan laughed, "Yes Dear.."

Hermione received several more packages before she went to work. Several watches and bracelets were in one. She begun to work on engraving. Having several close calls where she became translucent at least, like a ghost. Her parents gave her the support and encouragement to keep trying though as she came close to giving up a few times. Emma repeatedly telling Hermione she believed in her.

It was a few days before she was to go back to school and she thought she had the right runic structure chain and had engraved it properly. Strapping the watch onto her arm she felt a tingle surge go through her before she noticed her flesh fading back into existence. Soon she was fully visible, just like normal. She leapt up to stand before the mirror. She could see her hair, her eyes, all of her. She spun around making sure she was visible from all angle. Jumping up and down for joy she grabbed her bra and shirt, getting dressed and walking to the park just to be outside.

She had snuck outside a few times while her parents were at the office just to get out of the house which felt odd. Being naked in public and not being seen had been a bad dream at the start of this now it just felt normal. Making sure she hadn't been bumped or touched by anyone she had walked to the park and explored. A couple of dogs had sniffed at her but their owners didn't see her.

She was sitting on the couch when her parents came home. Standing in the entry hall smiling at them her dad came in first smiling at her, "Hey Pumpkin." He then froze and Emma bumped into him.

"Hermione I can see you!" He shouted grabbing her arms.

"Yeah. I got it to work." She enthusiastically said.

Emma smiled, "See I knew you'd conquer this. I never lost faith at all."

"Thanks guys. If you'd. If you hadn't believed in me I don't know what I'd have done." She was close to tears but excited and happy.

Dan was smiling, "You know let's go out to dinner. I think we have a daughter we need to show off."

Emma nodded, "Yeah. Now that we can see her pretty face again." She said giving Hermione's cheek a soft stroke.

Hermione blushed, "Aw mum. I'm not that pretty."

Dan was walking to the phone when he said, "Well when you get back on the train why don't you ask that Harry kid. See what his opinion is."

Emma nodded, "And if he's half as smart as you say he is, I'm sure he'll make the right choice."

Hermione looked in the hall mirror at her face, her hair that she had brushed and pulled back. She grinned as she thought, Harry would never see what hit him.
