It was dark by the time he made it home. Closing the door behind him quietly and locking it, he shed his jacket. The apartment was quiet, a lone lamp in the living room was on to give light. Carefully making his way to his bedroom, he knocked on the door. No answer sounded from the other side. He carefully opened the door to see a sleeping form curled up in his sheets.
A sighed of relief left him as he walked up to the bed. Grey eyes snapped open and in an instant a knife was at his throat. He smiled and held his hands up, "It's just me."
She huffed and set the blade aside, "You shouldn't sneak up on people."
"How are you feeling?"
"Like shit," she laid back carefully, "I can't keep warm."
His brows furrowed and he held out his hand, "Can I?" She gave the slightest nod and watched as he felt her cheek. "You're warm." He crossed his arms and thought, "I might have to call in a favor."
Her eyes narrowed, "A favor?"
"Just someone who might have access to some medication, no worries. I just don't want you to get an infection," he pulled out his phone and began typing.
"Why are you doing this," she rested her head against his headboard, feeling puny.
Hawks casually shrugged, "Why not?"
"For all you know I could kill you," she tilted her head, "Surly you're not that dense."
The blonde laughed, "I might be, but, if you were going to kill me," he nodded to the knife, "You would have already done so." He spun around and walked to the door, "Just keep under the blankets, I'll be back in a flash."
Tokoyami had grown used to Hawks' odd requests. Since he had been working at his agency, the requests didn't surprise him. From undercover work to medications, he always made it work. The truth is Hawks was fun to work for, you never knew what would happen next. The young hero appreciated Hawks taking him...under his wing.
He held the bag loosely in his hand on the roof of the agency. The chilly night air, and autumn trees paired well with the moon. He liked it up here, above the city lights, looking at the sky.
A sound behind him caused him to turn slowly. Hawks folded his red wings back and smiled, "I owe you one."
Tokoyami scoffed with a chuckle, "You owe me more than one. These were harder to get this time without them seeing you."
"Eh, they'll get over it," he took the bag and opened it.
"Antibiotics, pain relievers, and an extra fever reducer," he folded his arms, "Who is this for?"
"Just a friend," he rolled up the bag, stuffing it in his jacket.
"Your friend sounds dangerous."
Hawks chuckled, walking to the edge of the roof, "Erasure thinks so too." He turned and gave a wave before diving off of the building.
"You're joking," she looked at him.
He gave a cheeky grin, "They know I hate pills..."
She held up the medicine bottle, "So they give you flavored liquid like a child?" A sigh left her lips as she opened it, "This is going to taste terrible..."
He sat on the bed as she poured the dosage amount. There was a moment of paused and contemplation before she tilted her head back, letting the thick liquid flow. She immediately grabbed the water beside her and chased it down.
"Luckily the fever reducer tastes like grape," he rested his chin on his hand, "It's actually good."
She rolled her eyes, "You are such a baby. How have you survived this long?"
Hawks flashed a grin, "Pure spite."
For the first time, a small chuckle left her, "Honestly, same." She opened the next bottle, "If this tastes bad, I'm punching you in the face."
"That's the money maker," he teased, "How about the arm?"
She carefully poured it in its small cup and let out a breath before repeating the same action. It wasn't good, but it wasn't nearly as bad. All she had left was the pain killer. She could do this.
"So, what's your name," his eyes watched as she downed the last medication.
"What does it matter?"
He shrugged, "It doesn't."
"Mika." She took a sip of water and looked at him.
A smile settled on his face, "It's nice to meet you, Mika. Were you a pro?"
She shook her head, "For a brief moment, that ideology is a joke...no offense."
"No, you're right," he sighed, "sometimes it definitely is."
He decided not to pry anymore, standing and stretching his wings, "If you need something, let me know."
"I won't be here when you wake up," her eyes scanned him over.
He nodded with a small smile, "That's fine. If you cut across to the west, you'll stay to the side streets."
"Hawks," she kept her eyes on her hands as he turned around, "T-thank you..."
"Don't thank me."
He closed the bedroom door and let out a long breath, walking towards the door to lock it. Mika was interesting. He could see the trauma in her eyes, in her reserved actions. What was she like before all of this? A small amount of guilt hit him as he closed the door to his spare room. Someone who was supposed to protect people, took advantage of her, and ripped her faith away. That in itself pissed him off.
He showered and dressed in a pair of sweatpants, carefully looking over his large red wings. Every night he looked them over, making sure they were up to par and healthy. Since they had grown back, he took better care of them...walking around sucked major ass.
He blinked when his phone rang. A sigh left him as he answered, "Hallie...take down the Commission?" He smirked, "Of course I'm in...drop me the details."
The phone was tossed on the bed as he ran a hand through his damp hair. He at one time confessed his feelings towards her, after he son was born. They had stayed in contact after she left for America. Then after everything happened with that hot headed idiot, he did his best to be supportive. Sadly, she just wanted him as a friend, and two years later she was back, taking down the Commission.
"She knows all she has to do is ask," he plopped on the bed and closed his tired eyes. An idea popped into his head as he grinned, "I wonder..."
