Kerr scowled as he detected, yet again, a spy drone following him; despite being the rulers of the Milky Way, a position they'd fought for through peace and diplomacy, at least at first, they were unbelievably touchy when it came to geniuses.

Unless of course, they were fully indoctrinated and followed the Federation, to the letter; but Kerr was too wild for that, and he preferred having a mind of his own. Someone else, somebody lesser would be forever wondering why the Federation would try to imprison or kill their geniuses, never mind their people.

He knew why, of course.

In the case of everyone else in the galaxy, it was simply control. The Federation's slide away from peace, exploration, diplomacy, and freedom to become a tyrannical, oppressive, fascistic society had been a slow one. Standing in the way were the common peoples and aliens, but a genius could and would find a way around a great deal of the walls the Federation threw up.

Granted, Kerr could understand their reasoning even if it made him feel sick.

Geniuses could be dangerous. Scratch that, they were dangerous. Every single year, the Federation screened its population for any signs of intellectuals and while some met the criteria, they were more interested in living quiet lives, but instead of doing that, they were turned into junkie zombies.

But the more you squeezed and tightened your grip on the whole Federation, there was always

Kerr had proven that already. A genius could have no problems in hacking spy drones, realising the Federation were drugging them and others and discovering/realising that they were doing it. And Kerr had discovered it a while back, and he had come up with numerous ways of dealing with the drones, stopping the drugs from entering his system, and he'd come up with safeguards in case they realised he'd rumbled them, and came after them.

When he had been a youngster, Kerr's parents had been the ones to try to shield him from the Federation's screening, but Kerr's genius had been discovered a long time ago, and instantly the Federation had tried to stop him from achieving his full potential with some unwitting and unintentional help from his simplistic parents, who were under Federation control. They had done this by sending him to universities and colleges that worked by brainwashing their students, so then they would work for the Federation, and advance their aims.

It didn't always work.

Some geniuses were more insightful than most, although the majority showed their inferiority by following the Federation, and allowing the brainwashing and drugging to follow its course; but for some geniuses like Avon, that never happened.

Avon had lashed out.

When he had grown up, Avon had become a hacker, and he had built a small living working for secretive clients, building up a spy network so he could find ways of getting back at the Federation for their treachery. Kerr didn't do this out of the goodness of his heart, oh no; he did it solely for himself, and his desire for revenge.
