When her eyes opened, she was laid against a cool metal table, the smell of sterilized metal hit her nose. Luckily she was still in her suit, only missing her belt. She blinked adjusting to the bright lights above her.
"There she is," Sting leaned over her. He smelled like whiskey and spices he leaned down into her ear, "Boss said we got work to do."
"Sting, stop fooling around," a bald man stopped in and pulled gloves on his thin hands, "You know we are on a time crunch."
Sting rolled his eyes, "Hitoshi, you're no fun."
"Hold her still," he paid Sting's comment no mind, prepping a needle.
Mika tried to move her arms, but they were already strapped down. He placed his hands on her shoulders as Hitoshi walked over, "Test A, quirk manipulation using Kinetic Energy."
She felt the pain of the thick needle piercing her skin, sucking in a deep breath. Hitoshi pushed the liquid into her body and disposed of the needle before pulling out a tape recorder, "Subject Crimson has been injected with Subject Sunshine's DNA from past experimentation."
A pain shot through Mika's body making her gasp, "What the fuck is this?"
Sting released his grip, "Just another quirk we wanted to try out." He smiled, "You never know."
Her eyes rolled back into her head as she felt her blood mixing with the concoction of DNA. Her back arched as she whimpered against the restraints. Dark veins crept up her neck and arms. Sting watched closely, tilting his head. Their other subjects died almost instantly.
A woman walked in, her fitted business suit hugged her hourglass form. Dangerous red eyes watched as Mika struggled. Her eyes reminded Mika of hot lava, almost glowing. Sting moved to her side, she reached out and stroked the hair on his head like a pet. He looked at her with soft eyes. Another wave of pain hit as Mike felt her skin grow uncomfortably warm. The woman spoke, "Sting, do you mind?" She nodded to Mika.
"No ma'am," he moved to the panting woman and placed his pointer finger on her forehead. In an instant Mika felt nothing, and not in a good way. She felt as though her entire nervous system was shut down. She could no longer feel the cool table, or the pressure of the straps...she felt nothing.
The woman walked up to her, petting her head, "Such a lovely creature, don't you think Hitoshi?"
"Yes ma'am," he bowed his head, "One I think will be a success."
"Mikasa," the woman ran her hand down her cheek, "If you harness this, it means your blood has the ability to adapt to different quirks and strengthen them, you will prove most useful to our cause."
She made a move to speak, but, her mouth wouldn't move. Instead she narrowed her steely eyes, meeting the woman's lava-like orbs in defiance. She ran a hand through her luscious pink hair, "We took other vials correct?"
"Yes ma'am," Hitoshi confirmed, "I am planning on inputting the other DNA samples we collected into effect to test for and contraindications."
"Wonderful," she smiled, "You've both done well today, I'm pleased." Her eyes moved to Sting, "Come with me, I'm tired."
Sting smiled like a love struck puppy and released his hold on Mika, the pain returning to her body. They headed towards the door before she looked over her shoulder, "Leave her until tomorrow. Hopefully she survives."
Hitoshi nodded watching them leave. He sighed and looked over Mika's trembling body, "Hopefully you make it...I do hate burning bodies..." he turned and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.
Hot tears flowed from her eyes as she fought to keep her breath. The pain felt like it was penetrating her bones and muscles, to her very core. "You can't kill me..." she panted to no one, "I'm going to destroy you fucks."
Three, almost four weeks, nothing. They tried to keep their minds occupied, like nothing was going on. Mina was working with Hallie once more in the offices. The big three often alternated their patrols to keep an ear open incase Mika sounded the alarm.
Hawks made himself scarce. Only appearing when needed, then retreated back to his apartment. Hallie had tried messaging him, but received no response. Tokoyami said he was working around the clock, barely sleeping. Spring would be here soon, something he wasn't looking forward to, so he was doing as much as he could, so he could lock himself away.
Tokoyami currently sat across from Hallie, sipping tea. They met a few times to discuss Hawks and how everyone was doing. Her hand gently pressed on her stomach. Tokoyami smiled, "When are you due again?"
"June," she sighed in a relief when the pressure faded, "if I survive. She beats me up."
"So four more months," Tokoyami chuckled, "Have you thought of names?"
"A few," she smiled and sipped some warm tea, "So, explain to me why he's pushing so hard."
"Well," Tokoyami rubbed the back of his neck, "sometimes with animal type quirks we inherit certain...attributes. Like Tsuyu for instance, when her body gets below a certain internal temperature, she will hibernate."
It clicked, "Wait...so then with spring..." she trailed off.
"Y-yeah. It's instincts. Every year he locks himself away for a while."
"For how long?"
"Just a week or so."
"I see," she sighed, "I hate this is all hitting him at once."
"I'm proud of him though," the hero looked at her, "While he isn't all himself, he is doing his best."
"Do you think he loves her," Hallie rested her fist on her chin.
"Maybe, with Hawks it's hard to tell," he sighed, "but, he is busy distancing himself from the thought."
"Keep taking care of him for us, please," she smiled softly, "Even if Katsuki won't admit it, he enjoys Hawks."
He chuckled, "I will do my best."
