Arc One: Mystery

Chapter Twelve: Ocean's Island

The constant rushing and splashing of the waves are the only thing that's keeping me awake as we ride on Melody's shell.

It was one of those nights last night. Ever since I had that nightmare, I was a little too scared to go back to sleep. Even though it was just a dream, it still was frightening enough to keep me up. Not to mention that the question that I'm the reason for the Mystery Dungeons hasn't left my head. It's scary to think about it, because it might just be true. Everything was just fine and dandy, but the moment that I came around chaos happened. Why can't I just remember everything. That would take so much off my chest.

"You ok, Red?" I hear Lucas behind me. "You are very quiet today."

"I'm always quiet." I say as I yawn. "I...didn't get a lot of sleep last night." I'm trying my best to make sure Lucas thinks that I'm fine. I don't want him to worry about me.

Lucas sighs. "I know that, but are you thinking about something?"

I yawn again. "...Nope. Just sleepy."

Lucas looks at me once more before he looks back at the ocean. "Alright, if you say so."

"Do you need a jump start?" Bolt says, sparking a little.

I panic at his offer. "No thanks, I'm good." I already have gotten a "jumpstart" before, and I'd like to keep it at one. Bolt chuckles and lays back down on the Lapras' shell.

After having breakfast, me, Lucas, Bolt, and Melody headed over to Sharpedo Beach where we loaded up some boxes that were filled with all kinds of supplies. From what Wigglytuff told Lucas and I in the short time we were with her, Ocean's Island is not too far off from the island we're on. What we're supposed to do is grab some berries, and apples and then take them over there to give to them. She told us that the island doesn't have too much of those supplies so she offered to supply them with some. She also mentioned that the island also has beautiful rocks, powerful orbs, and water gummies that they trade with us in return. "It's a win-win." She had said with a huge smile.

I look toward the back and see a large wooden raft with a bunch of boxes on it. It sure did take a while to load all that onto that raft, but now here we are, making our way to the island. Lucas has been trying to calm himself down, but I can still feel the wind of his tail. He still really wants to see this new island, and I am too, it's just that I'm also tired.

"Hey Melody." Lucas begins. "How much longer until we get there?" Melody turns her head toward us and smiles. "It'll only be a while longer."

Lucas then sat back down on the shell and looked at Bolt, and rocks himself back and forth. He clearly wants to start a conversation with the others. "Soooooo...Bolt?" The Emanation Pokemon starts. "How did you, Melody, and Sparks join the Guild?"

This catches my attention as the Luxray looked up into the sky. This is something I'd like to hear too.

"Well, it's a pretty long story with some twists and turns, and we're already getting close to the island, so I'll make it brief. Me and Sparks lived in a small town named Thunderwave Town. And me and Sparks were...different, to say the least. One summer, it felt like...I couldn't take Saprk's anymore, he kind of felt proud of himself after he got better grades then me in his first year in school. and when he asked our parents if he could go to Treasure Town on Summer Vacation, they didn't say yes, but they didn't say no as well."

"I was really starting to get envious of Sparks. I didn't help that I never too kind to him when I was a Luxio. My Mom ended up making me take Sparks with me on my job. He had so many questions to he ask me, and it was just so tiring, but when I saw him feeding a wild Pokemon, I..."

"You lost it, didn't you?" Lucas asks.

I then see a small tear form on the lion's face, but he is quick to dry it up. "I screamed at him. It's not a moment I'm proud of today. Even though it all worked out in the end, I reget doing that."

He then clears his thoat. "Anyways, back to the story. After I lost it, he ran off. I thought he went back home, but when I got there, he wasn't there, so I had to try and find him. When I finally did, I saw that he was friends with Melody, who was, at that time, a wild Pokemon."

Lucas coughs. "Wait, you were a wild Pokemon?!" He says to the Transport Pokemon. "But you're so...normal like everyone else at the Guild."

She smiles. "Well, I wasn't back then, but I wanted to be like a regular Pokemon, so I followed Sparks so that he could teach me how to be like one, and get back home, too."

Bolt continued. "At Thunderwave Town, wild Pokemon were infamous. They were known to attack small villages, stealing eggs, and even eating Pokemon alive." I almost threw up. Bolt laughs a tad. "Yeah, they were monsters, but Sparks was never like everyone else. He was more opened to others. And he was willing to give them a chance."

"But what about you?" I ask.

He looks at me. "No, I was like everyone else, and even though I was mad at him, he was still my little brother, and my dad said to protect him at all costs. So I tried to kill her." I go to interrupt, but I instead let him finish. "I underestimated Melody, as she used Ice Beam and froze me solid on her first try, before I could do anything. I was scared of what she'd do next. I thought she'd attack Sparks, but in the end, it was him told her to stop fighting and free me. Sparks then made me promise that I won't hurt her. I didn't want to agree to it, but he forced me to."

"And then you came here to be a team?" Lucas asked.

Bolt nodded. "Yep. Pretty much. There's more to the story, but we're almost there, so that'll have to wait for some other time. Get ready to unload, guys."

I look ahead of us and see some rocks sticking out of the clear blue sea. There are plenty of Water-types that are sitting on the rocks or swimming in the water. The laughter of small kids playing tag in the ocean, the splashing of the waves hitting the rocks and the shore, and the singing of some Popplios, Brionnes, and Primarias fill the air. It's all very relaxing, I just wish that I could take a small nap right now but-

"We're here." Melody says as she parks herself in the dock. I hop off and look around. There's a small town on the edge of the shore that is very beach themed. All the buildings are stands with beach towels acting as the roof on a rocky path that connects everything together. I see a Wartortle selling some lemonade on the left, a Vaporeon with a straw hat selling sunglasses on the right, and in the center there's a shiny Primaria that is being followed by four Pokemon: An Oshawott, a Squirtle, a Mudkip, and a Piplup.

Hmm, I've never seen a shiny Primarina before. Looks cute.

"Hey, Red." I hear Lucas say. "These boxes aren't going to unload themselves. The sooner we're done here, the faster we can explore this island."

"Ok. I'll be right there." I answer and make my way over the boxes. Out of the corner of my eye I see an Inteloen making his way over to us.

"Well, well, well, I see that you have supplies for my shop. And you brought some helpers as well." He says. The Inteleon has a small stick that he's twirling in his hand.

"Sure do, Wave. Those two make up Team Adventure. They just joined the Guild a little more than a week ago." Bolt says as he puts on a harness over himself. Lucas and I put some boxes on a sleigh. Once it's full, Bolt pulls it off the raft and brings it to a nearby sand with a sign saying, "Wave's Market".

The Inteleon smiles. "It's nice to see boxes full of apples. After we heard the news about Apple Woods getting corrupted, the town was scared that we wouldn't get enough apples."

Melody laughs. "Thankfully, that happened at the end of the week, so we stiil have plenty of apples to spare."

"That's a relief. Everyone will be very happy to hear, and taste that." Wave said, sighing. He smiles as he sees me and Lucas start to take to boxes off the sleigh and bring them to his shop.

"So, is there a spot you'd like us to put these, Mr. Wave?" Lucas says while carrying a box.

"Just set them by the rest of the boxes." He replies. We then start to place the boxes next to a pile of opened boxes. When I turn around to go take another box, I see a Mudkip watching us unload. "Mudkip! Man, that thing is so cute." I think to myself as I grab another one.

After I set that one down, I see that he's joined by a Piplup and a Squirtle. I'm starting to think they're the same ones that were following that shiny Primaria- "RED, LOOK OUT!" I hear Bolt yell at me. I stop in my tracks.

I go to ask why he told me to stop, but then I see in front of my an Oshawoot with eyes that are larger than his head staring up at me that I was just about to run over.

Oh, that's why.

"You look super cool, mister. I've never seen any Pokemon like you before." I don't know what to say to the small child, but before I know it, the three other Pokemon make their way in front of me and start to ask me questions all at the same time.

"Are you new around here?" Asks the Piplup. "Are you a Fire-type?" The Mudkip wonders. "If you are, do you breathe fire?" Says the Squirtle. "Is this too many questions?" The Oshawott says.

I'm left listening to what the four kids have on their minds without any idea of what to say to them. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME GET OUT OF THIS?!

"Alola, everyone!" I hear a voice call out almost in song. I turn and see the same shiny Primarina from before approaching us.

"Alola!" I hear Bolt and Melody return. The Pokemon then makes her way to the four kids and says, "Class, I know you want to find out what this Pokemon is, but please don't run off. We need to stay together."

"Sorry, Mrs. Karah." All the kids say, except for the Oshawott, who says, "But he's so cool."

"Oh, Owen." She says while she pats his head.

"Hello Karah, it's nice to see you again." I hear Melody say.

"Melody!" The shiny Pokemon says excited and gives the Lapras a hug. "I missed you so much."

"It's only been a little over a week." She replies.

"That's still too much for your best friend." Karah says. She then turns around, facing me and Lucas. She claps her hands by her face and says. "Aww, who are these two?"

Bolt laughs. "They're Team Adventure. That Lucas the-"

"WAIT! Don't say it!" The Soloist Pokemon says with a panicked tone. She races over to the four water Pokemon. "Class, let's see how much you've learned." She says, "Do you know what that blue Pokemon is?"

The Mudkip and Squirtle raise their hand and shout, "Me, me, me, me, me!" The Primarina pauses for a moment, before pointing to the Mudkip. "Yes, Alpha?"

The Mudkip smiles and says, "It's the Emanation Pokemon, Rilo."

HA! I put my hands over my mouth to hold my laughter in. It's funny to know that I'm not the only one to think it's pronounced Rilo. All the kids laugh at the Mudkip, but their teacher is quick to stop them.

"Stop it, class. You're all hurting Alpha's feelings." She says while giving them a stare. The kids stopped laughing when she gave them the look of disappointment. The Mudkip then lights up. "Wait a minute, it's called Riolu, right?"

"Yes it is, good job! You even figured it out it's nickname." Karah says. The Mudkip then beams even brighter than before, clearly feeling happier than he was five seconds ago.

"Mrs. Karah, do you know what that other Pokemon is?" The Piplup asks.

The Primarina looks at me for a while. She then laughs nervously. "I'm sorry to say it, but I've never seen that Pokemon before. I'm stumped."

The Oshawott then explodes. "YOU MEAN THAT'S A NEVER BEFORE SEEN POKEMON AND WE JUST DISCOVERED IT?! THAT'S AWESOME! Can we name it, please!"

Lucas then laughs. "Sorry, but he already has a name. He's Red the Raboot."

All four kids are in awe. Karah smiles. "Raboot, huh. I'll have to remember that one."

I then hear Bolt behind me. "If you two are wondering who that is, that's Karah. She's a long time friend of Melody. Like Melody, she was wild, but she was much better than her with talking. They both lived on this island, but Melody stayed with us when we became a team, plus she wanted to learn more about Pokemon civilization. Karah stayed for a little while, but then left when she had a better understanding of speech. She always wanted to teach Pokemon about other Pokemon."

"That's so cool." Lucas says to the Luxray.

"So Bolt, you're taking them under your wing?" The Shiny Pokemon says.

Bolt smiles. "You know I don't have the patience for that kind of stuff. That's Sparks' thing."

Karah laughs. "No silly, I didn't mean those two, I ment these four."

Bolt and Melody then turn white. Are me and Lucas missing something?

"..." Karah then looks worried. "You didn't forget about today, did you?"

Bolt then laughs. "Of course we didn't, we were just...caught up with Red and Lucas so much that we...kind of...did."

Melody then interrupts him. "But it's not like we can't do it. We'll be fine, and we were planning on staying a little longer anyways. We'll just have to tell Wigglytuff that we'll be taking your class on a field trip."

A smile then goes across the shiny Pokemon's face. "Now that's music to my ears. Remember, I won't be gone long. Ben just has to get his check up from Mrs. Audino and Mom is busy today so I have to take him. Just take them to Hot Hot Springs and I'll be right here when you get back in town."

The four kids then jump in the air. "YAAAA! HOT SPRINGS!" They all say with joy.

I smile at the kids. These hot springs do sound very relaxing. I know that we're going to take them there, but I think it'll be worth it.

"Thanks again for taking them, even if you did forget." Karah says, hitting Bolt on the head. She then giggles as he rubs his head and she jumps into the ocean. I see off in the distance her appearing next to a rock that has a Popplio on it. It then gets off of the rock and gets on the back of the Primarina and they both sink back into the water.

"So what, that's her brother?" I ask Bolt.

"Yeah. That's another reason why she came back here: Her family. She the one was does all the work as she's the only one that can talk clearly. Her little brother is the world to her. She'll do anything to make him happy."

"Hmmp. Funny." Lucas says staring out into the blue sky.

"What is?" I say back.

He then quickly turns back. "Nothing, I just think that's cute."

"Excuse me, Mrs. Melody. Are we going to the hot springs now?" Alpha says.

Melody smiles and says, "Don't worry, we'll leave soon. Red, Lucas, and Bolt have to just finish unloading and I have to get out of the water. But when that's all done, we'll be on our way."

"YEAH!" All the kids say as they jump in the air once more. They then start chanting "Hot springs" as Melody slowly climbs out of the water. I smile again. I just hope that they don't bombard us with questions on the way.

"Can you read Pokemon's mind?"

"No, I can only sense a Pokemon's emotions."

"Can you breathe fire?"

"Yes, I can breathe fire."

"Gah! Hey, don't pull on my fur."

"But it's soooo soft."

We are making our way to Hot Hot Springs (man, the names of the places here are VERY creative) and the only thing we've been doing is answering questions for the kiddos. What's your favorite food? What moves can we use? The Oshawott even asked what our darkest secret was? Of course we didn't answer that last one, but we did to the other ones, and many, MANY others.

"Why can't we go on your shell, Mrs. Melody?" The Piplup asked, sitting on the back of the Luxray.

Melody responds with, "Because I already have a hard time moving on the ground. It's tiring to carry things when I'm not in the water."

The three other kids start to chuckle. The Piplup then gets angry at them. "What's so funny?"

The Squirtle says, "She just called you fat."

"NO SHE DID NOT!"

"She kind of did."

The Piplup, who is now steaming, lunges off Bolt, into the Tiny Turtle Pokemon, and tackles him. Soon the two start to engage in a slap-fight with each other. Melody then says to the two, "Stop fighting, please. I didn't mean it like that."

The two don't listen to her and continue to trade blows with one another. Melody sighs. "I was afraid of this would happen at some point."

"Do you want me to take care of this?" Bolt says, readying a weak Thunderbolt.

The Lapras shakes her head. "No, I got this." She says. She then breathes in and fires an Ice Beam at the two, freezing them in a block of ice almost instantly. Me, Lucas, and the two other kids laugh at the sight of the Piplup and Squirtle frozen in place.

Bolt then chuckles. "You won't believe how many times Melody has done that to me." He says.

Suddenly his tail turns into a shiny, silver whip. He then jumps in the air and slams the block into pieces. The two Pokemon then come out of the broken ice block, shivering.

"..s-s-so...c-c-c-cold..." The Squirtle says.

The Piplup, however, isn't as bad. "Maybe it's because I'll be a Steel-type one day, but that wasn't too bad-Ahh-choo!" He sneezes.

The two then come face-to-face with Bolt and Melody, who are both giving the disappointed look. "You better apologize to Neptune right now, Squirt." An electric Bolt says in a rough tone.

The Squirtle then starts to sweat. "S-sorry for c-c-calling you fat, Neptune." The Piplup then smiles, puts his hands on his side, and closes his eyes. He feels very proud now that he has apologized.

"The same goes for you too, Neptune. You did start the fight after all." Melody says to the proud Pokemon.

The Piplup turns white and goes to argue. "B-but he-"

"Did you hit him first?" She says.

Neptune looks down. "...yeah..."

"Then what do you say to him?"

The Penguin Pokemon turns to the shivering Squirtle. "Sorry for slapping you in the face, Squirt. I was just so angry and, you know, I'm always full of pride." I roll my eyes. Believe me, that's a well known fact. The two then hug each other and then laugh.

The Oshawott then raises his hand. "Are we going to be getting close to Hot Hot Springs?"

Melody smiles. "Yes, but we do have time for one more question if you'd like."

The Oshawott then jumps. "I have a question. I have a question. I've had it since we started our journey here. It's for Lucas."

Lucas smiles. "Ok, what is it?"

"Can you use Aura Sphere?" He asks.

Lucas pauses. "Can I...what?"

"Use Aura Sphere, shouldn't Riolu's be able to use it?"

I look at Lucas as he thinks to himself. "I...well...hmmm, I never tried. I'll give one, though. Should be that hard." He says.

I raise my eyebrow. Wait, he thinks he can do it? I mean, he could do it, but I thought that you had to be a Lucario in order to make one.

He then reaches his hand out in front of him. "Grrrrrrrr, come on." He says as he starts sweating. He's really trying to make one. All of us are looking at him. Is he really going to do it? "Come on, come on, come on, come on-"

"LOOK!" Alpha yells. "Hot Hot Springs. We made it." All four kids stop looking at the Rilo and dash over to the bubbling water. The springs are on a red rocky cliff that looks off into the would-be sunset. There are many pools, some of which have Pokemon in them. Mostly Water-types, but there are some Fire-types, Rock-types, and Fighting types as well.

"Wait, don't go!" Lucas says, reaching his hand out to the kids. But they don't listen, unsurprisingly, and dive head first into the steamy water. I mean, this is why we're here in the first place.

Bolt and Melody chase after them, saying, "Hey, stay together everyone."

Lucas looks down to the ground, depressed. "No, don't go...I almost had it. I felt it."

I put my hand on Lucas' shoulder. "Don't worry. You'll get it one day, maybe even later today. Now come on, let's go and relax."

He then smiles. "Yeah, I guess shouldn't let that get to me." We both then follow the class to the hot springs. As soon as I get close to it, I feel a blast of heat coming from the pools. Ohhh, it feels so nice. Maybe it's because I'm a Fire-type I like it so much, but one look at Lucas says that he's enjoying the warmth too. I see that Melody is floating on the water with Bolt on her shell. All four kids, however, are splashing water at one another as they swim in the hot spring.

"Aren't you going to get in, Bolt?" Lucas asks the resting Pokemon.

He shakes his head. "It's good enough on the shell. Besides, I hate it when I get wet. It's super-"

"Effective?" I say laughing.

"No, annoying." The Luxray says. "Now if you excuse me, I'm going to take a nap. I am tired." He then yawns, curlers up into a ball, and slowly falls asleep.

I then yawn too. Lucas chuckles. "Are you going to take a nap today as well, sleepyhead?"

I smile. "I might. I'm feeling a little drowsy as well."

"A little." The Rilo says. "You almost fell asleep when we were WALKING here."

"Yeah." I say before I yawn again. "All this warm air is making me feel sleepy. If I fall asleep, make sure no one splashes me."

"You have my word, partner." Lucas says. He then starts to run at the pool and right when he gets to the edge, he jumps. "CANNONBALL!" He then makes a big splash in the water, spreading out waves all around the spring. Thankfully, Melody used Protect to guard Bolt from getting wet and all the strangers were sitting in the other pools.

When he gets to the surface, Lucas spits out water. "Come in, Red. The water's just fine."

I smile. "I think I'm just going to slowly get in, if you don't mind."

"Suite yourself." He says as he takes a deep breath and goes back underwater. I walk over to the edge of the water. It feels so nice, but I really hope it's not too hot. I then sit down and dip my foot in the bubbling liquid.

"Ooooohhhhhhhhh, yyyyeeeeaaaahhhh." I say. Before I know it, everything below my nose is under the water. Man, this feels so good. I hear the laughter of the kids having fun in the water. It makes me think about when we were coming here. It was all...so...relaxing...

"Well, time for a nap." I say to myself. I close my eyes, and before I know it, I've fallen asleep.

"Come on, what are you waiting for?" I hear my friend say to me.

I complain. "But it's hot water. Isn't it going to-"

"Stop complaining about it" She says. "Look, I am in here, right?"

"Well, yeah, but."

"But nothing." She says. "If anything, I should be the one scared to go in." She then goes into the water.

I sigh. Well, she got me there. I look back at the hot water. "Alright, alright, here I come." I slowly make my way to the water's edge.

I take a deep breath. "Please don't sting, please don't sting, please don't-" I then feel someone spraying water at me. I turn and see it's my friend spiting out of her mouth. "Gah! Stop it!" I yell back at her.

She laughs. "Come on it was that-" She is then met with a wall of hot water coming from the splash of my cannonball and is then swept away.

She finally comes out of the water, a bit angry. "That was not fair. I wasn't looking."

I laugh. "What kind of counter is that? I wasn't looking at you when you shot water at me."

"Well then." She begins. "SPLASH FIGHT!"

A battle quicking ensues. It's a good thing that we're the only ones here, otherwise we'd be splashing everyone else. After about five mintues, we stop fighting and start laughing. Weird. I was so scared before, but now look at me. I'm having the time of my life with my new friend.

Maybe this trip won't be so bad.

I wake up with a cold sweat on my face.

My thoughts go start back to what I was just doing.

Was that...IT WAS! "YES! I HAD A DREAM! I HAD A DREAM!" I scream out loud. I'm so happy. A part of my past is solved. I KNOW SOMETHING! I go to tell everyone about my discovery, but then I stop.

As I look around, I see that not only is everything in ruins, but there isn't a single soul here. "Hello? Lucas? Bolt?...Melody?" I say to the wind.

My head starts to spin around. I'm alone. I'm the only one here. Strange? They wouldn't just leave me here, would they? I shake my head. They'd never do that, especially Lucas.

I then notice that it's all foggy around me. Oh, no. I'm not in a Mystery Dungeon by myself, am I? I go to get out of the water when I feel like I'm stuck.

"But on what?" I think to myself as I look down. I then freeze. I see me in the water, but it looks all black, with the red on it looking all drippy. Please tell me that's not blood.

I look at myself to clean myself off, but I realize that I'm all clean. But if that's the case, then why-

The creepy reflection then hops out of the water and grabs me. Before I have time to fight back, he takes me under the water and I close my eyes. What was once soothing water is now burning liquid.

As the deeper I go, the more pain I feel, and I'm a Fire-type!

I scream. Bad idea, as I lose the air that I so desperately need to keep in my body. I open my eyes again to see him staring at me, with his eyes dripping like blood. I want to fight back so bad, but he's trapped me. I feel my head becoming lighter as my lungs burst into flames.

"You should have never tried." I hear my reflection say to me in a wicked, echoey way with a creepy smile. He then laughs, pushes me away, and engulfs himself in flames. I see my life flash before my eyes as he hits me like a bullet.

"GGGGGAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
